Up for vacation and wife's birthday. Marion and I were seated, and there was a small sign on the table in French bon anniversaire. A glass of sparkling rose was also a nice surprise. We ordered bread service and a 2 cheese sele tin to start. Fabulous, as were the homemade jellies and preserves to accompany. Marion ordered steak frites, I got the Hake Wellington. Steak perfectly cooked and tender, the fries were plentiful and crisp on the outside with a perfect creamy inside. The Wellington, perfect tender fish wrapped in spinach and a flakey crust. We were told by our friends that Chez Rosa was a must. The bad thing on any review is that it only represents one visit. We were seated next to the kitchen and when we came home the grease smell still lingered in our close. But : the service was excellent. The food was good but not Wow. My fiancé and I went to Chez Rosa for our 1 year anniversary. It was delightful! Super clean, refreshing atmosphere, and relaxing. The service was great. We took our time, didn't feel rushed which is a thing I look for. The food and drinks were spectacular. We started off with sparkling rose. Then we split an entrée and an appetizer. Ate here on a rainy Saturday night - it was the best meal of my long weekend trip, and probably the best French food I've had in New England. My only complaint is that it was pretty cold in there due to open doors etc. for airflow/social distancing purposes...Not their fault, but bring a jacket. The french onion soup was incredible, and the duck cassoulet was less stewy and more soupy, which kept it light in a very good way. The crab dish was also delicious and stringy. I felt like I was eating the ocean. The meal ended with a creme brulee w/blueberry compote at the bottom. I'm surprised people don't do this more often (compote). Also have to give a shout out to the blueberry sangria - that was exceptional. Before this weekend I had not been to Maine for a while, and this dining experience was the highlight of our trip. It is because of experiences like this that I'll probably start coming to Maine more often (vs. Vermont, NH etc). read more

My fiancé and I came here last night for a nice date night before the craziness of our wedding next weekend. We arrived early and sat at the bar to wait for our table, the bartender David was very nice and the mango sangria was delicious. Once seated everything was out of this world. The steak frites was probably the most delicious meal I've ever had in my life, perfect temp and perfect serving size. The service was fantastic as well as everything else honestly. This restaurant is rolling with the COVID-19 punches (more than their fair share) but coming up strong! We had dinner in a lovely setting, outdoors, in the patio space of a local gallery that they've been loaned. The staff practiced all of the precautions you'd hope for in these pandemic times. And the food! We started with the asparagus and soft egg salad, which is likely the best salad I've ever eaten. I still haven't decided which part of the duck cassoulet was the best. Three delicious morsels of protein expertly prepared were a delight to the senses. And we couldn't resist trying the Cod Wellington, which seemed a daring and inventive take on a classic. Visually, it was beautiful (the scale pattern in the puff pastry is so creative), but that was quickly overtaken by a bite. Cod has never been more lovingly treated. It's awesome in the truest sense of the word. We weren't able to try a dessert, because we were too stuffed by the generous portions, but the offerings looked great too. Oh, and the totally reasonable carafe of white wine was crisp and refreshing. We will definitely back, and you won't regret giving them a try! read more

WOW. This was one of THE best restaurants I've ever experienced. I'm from Los Angeles and New York, so I think I know restaurants pretty well. This restaurant had the friendliest staff! Our server Jessica was so knowledgeable, friendly, and warm. She genuinely seemed happy to be working. We also told the restaurant it was our anniversary, and they put the sweetest little table card saying "happy anniversary" in French, AND offered us two complimentary glasses of sparkling wine. We were totally taken aback at the hospitality. As a vegetarian, I was skeptical about the options. Typical French food isn't very veg-friendly, so I was a little worried. This meal turned out to be one of THE best I've ever had. We got the Autumn salad, Gruyère, fondue, tofu au vin, gnocchi, Brussels sprouts, and the most amazing crème brûlée. We also got pumpkin sangria, which my boyfriend thought was going to be too sweet, but it was INCREDIBLE and flavored perfectly. The main takeaway for me was that my boyfriend and I could actually TASTE each ingredient, which is so hard to do these days. For example,, Brussels sprouts are usually fried and covered in Parmesan. These actually tasted like Brussels sprouts. We've been in Maine for two days and this was undoubtably the best meal we had (and will have while we're here). Man go to Maine. Man eat. Man amazed. Man writes yelp review. Man gives Chez Rosa 5 stars. Chez Rosa has provided a restaurant experience I might never ever see again in my lifetime. Chez Rosa gave me a feeling of perfection with the food, in a way where you can't complain about anything- even if you tried to. This place gave me 2 cheese samples that were absolutely stunning. I know this sounds crazy because cheese is cheese, but this cheese was different. The soft cheese was perfect and extremely fresh- and this was properly one of the best cheese samples I have ever had, and trust me I have had A LOT of cheese. Additionally, a family member of mine decided to try the French Onion Soup was cooked to perfection. Usually, when you go to a restaurant you will find this type of soup is too heavy or too salty, but this soup, once again, was perfect. All the ingredients were fresh, the food was hot, and the soup was not too heavy and not too light, making it awesome. My maine course (pun intended) was steak, and I know I am saying it a lot, but it was perfect. The steak was not overcooked or undercooked making this one of the best pieces of steak I have ever had in my lifetime. And yes you know what, I'm going to keep going, I am adding a whole section on their fries- and oh my God, these are by far the world's best fries that I have ever run into. These fries like everything at the restaurant were perfect, and only because they weren't salty, they weren't overcooked, they weren't undercooked, and they weren't soggy. THIS IS HOW GOD MADE FRIES!!! The restaurant and environment also proceeded to be clean, and the waiters here were extremely nice, and gave us our service quickly, and without being rushed. This restaurant was fantastic. Even in the midst of COVID-19, staff was friendly and took exceptional precautions. My parents and I went for an early dinner and were seated in the back, completely alone on a Friday night. Every dish we had was amazing - the thyme butter baguette, gnocchi, tofu, and cod wellington were all spectacular. Drinks were great and served quickly, and we ordered dessert (creme brûlée and pot de creme) which we almost never do! I look forward to going back ASAP! read more

Post COVID I've been going out more to restaurants and a lot of them right up front tell you they are stort staffed and service will be slow. This exactly what you don't want to hear as you enter the place. Inevitably it turns into a self fulfilling prophecy and the service is awful and the food arrives cold. This is not what you get from Chez Rosa. They have an adequate wait/ bar staff to handle the restaurant and are there to respond to guests requests. The food was reasonably priced and it was very very good. I had the steak which was perfectly cooked and the other two meals arrived within seconds of each other and were all hot and delicious. Frankly, it's now one of the few restaurants left in the Port that is worth going to. read more

Practically perfect in every way. The town, the Christmas lights, the pate and the oysters - everything came delightfully together into a perfect date night. The Maine oysters were some of the best we had this year. The real star is their terrine and pate. Refreshing and unique drink combinations rounded out the meal. Disappointed. We used to eat at Bandaloop, the restaurant that previously occupied this space several times each summer and were excited to try this restaurant based on the great reviews and, unfortunately, did not have a good experience. The pros: the oysters and pate were good, the staff was friendly and very helpful. The cons: the pollock wellington that my husband ordered was not good. I could tell from the smell of it as the waiter approached the table. The ratatouille entree was more like a side dish. The white wine was served just above room temperature. After four courses, I left the restaurant still feeling hungry. We do not plan to return here. read more

We had the most amazing brunch at Chez Rosa. The service was perfection, the food was so delicious and the ambiance was lovely. The outdoor patio is beautiful and so French. The in house strawberry rhubarb jam is perfection and I've never had better iced coffee in my life. They also have great COVID protocols and we felt completely safe. They disinfected EVERYTHING. Absolutely phenomenal. The heirloom tomato/peach/basil etc salad was summer in a dish. The baguette with thyme butter...yum. Main courses: chicken provencle was the most tender chicken ever! We went to Chez Rosa for the first time last Friday night, we were a little disappointed with entree options. The oysters and mignonette were awesome and fresh, the onion soup was good, not great! The cheese fondue appetizer was very good and the wait staff were great, attentive and knowledgeable. The creme brullet was delicious. We are not sure if we will make this stop next year again. This was our fifteenth year coming to Maine on this particular week, we frequent the same restaurants every year, this will be discussed and we will decide if we want another meal here or not read more

We almost walked out on our reservation as the hostess sat the people ahead of us and didn't return for nearly 15 minutes. There was someone there who was cleaning menus but was unable to assist us or find the hostess. We eventually got seated and our food and our server were both great.
