Ok food, a bit more expensive than other chinese restos of the same style. We tried the garlic vermicelly scallops, the lobster and a meat dish. The scallops were good but the vermicelly were very soggy and drenched in oil. The lobster was fresh and good. The place is so random as it is located inside the super C which means there are plenty of parking spots in front. We had a good service from one lady who took our order and gave us recommandations. However, the other staff didn't really pay attention when we tried to call her several times to get the bill. The decor of the place is very old. read more

Pretty good Cantonese style Chinese restaurant. Right in front of a supermarket. We had an 10 course meal. So I can say I had a good cross cut of their food. I won't talk about each course but the notable ones. Their suckling pig was great and the crab and lobster were good. They also had this mayonnaise chicken fried with shrimp that was interesting. I have never seen that dish anywhere and I have been to more Chinese restaurants than most. read more

Usually, I'm skeptical of randomly placed Chinese restos. This one is no exception--it shares a building with Super C. That to me is weird. But to my surprise, very decent Canto food. I find it $2-3 more expensive per dish than expected compared with other Chinese food places. Our uncle waiter was really friendly and originally from Hong Kong so we chatted with him in Cantonese. We ordered the 4-dish combo and added an extra dish. That came out to $83+tx. Rule of thumb is to order one dish per person when sharing and throw in a request for a large bowl of rice. The starter is a complementary bowl of carrot, greens, pork broth "soup". Yes, Asians like thin soup :P Then our food was served up pretty quick: salt & pepper white chicken, crispy garlicky fried shrimps (which were really good), bitter melon black bean beef, stir fried greens, and deep fried battered fish. Meal concluded with a complementary taro tapioca dessert soup. Overall good enough that I'd actually go back! read more

I've been to this Chinese restaurant twice now when visiting my uncle in Montreal. He really likes it but I'm not quite sure why. The food is fine not really didn't strike me as amazing. The service is a bit weird... On my recent visit it seems like the later was telling us not to order the item that we ordered. We ordered it and then everybody in the restaurant looked at us like we were crazy. Not sure what that was all about. I guess they didn't know white people knew about broccoli. read more

I just realized I hadn't updated this review. We've since been to Chez Ping at least another 3 times (again, because my in-law's like it and it's just conveniently located for them :)) and I truly believe they improved in the past year we lived in Montreal. The steamed fish definitely improved. We even had our baby's 1-month celebration here and the service and food was great! Perhaps management does read these reviews and work on making changes (at least I'd like to think so). read more

So it's a Chinese restaurant that opened recently in Lasalle ~ and it's a place for dim sum or dining. TLDR: Overall, while it's food is soso ~ I recommend the place due to its nice atmosphere, locational convenience and economic prices. Making the trip: Let me first say that its location is extremely convenient and there's tones of free parking. This is usually the deciding factor on why not to go to Chinatown. Quality of food: It's a standard place for dim sum, there isn't much it offers that makes Chez Ping unique from other dim sum places. Their variety is most of what's offered at other dim sum restaurants. Some of their other foods are okay, but make sure you take the ones that are fresh from the kitchen, since on days where there aren't many people, they food just stays on the cart and become kinda bad when served. Moreover, their steamed dumplings are really bad quality. Not only do they fall apart as you place one on your plate, they are already in pieces even as you pick it up fresh out of the kitchen. For food in the menu, they are always freshly prepared. Some choices are better than others. Now that they have a new chef, the quality has improved than before. Price: Chez Ping's dim sum prices are somewhat higher than in other places in Chinatown. For example, most of Chez Ping's dim sum price ranges around $3-$4/carton while prices can be found for less at Ruby Rouge or Kam Fung @ Chinatown. Quality of Service: There are good waiters and there are bad waiters. The good ones - typically the lady and the younger male waiters are very humble and smile when they serve you. Other older male waiters seem angry when you ask them for basic service and that you are seemingly troubling them. It appears that it probably would kill them to brighten slightly once in a while. Overall, stay away from the seemingly pessimistic waiters. Other Perks: Depending on who you ask for the bill, you can potentially get a 10% off your meal. Also Unlimited free coffee (and the standard free tea as well). Final Words: It's a nice place to go with friends at your leisure and have conversations or hang out. It's more packed on weekends than during the week. While the comparable prices are high, dim sum is very economical. We once had a table of 10, we ate our full (dim sum) and the bill was only $50...that's 5 bucks per person. Overall, while it's food is soso ~ I recommend the place due to its nice atmosphere, locational convenience and economic prices. read more

I was in Montreal over the weekend for a little RnR and a relative had recommended this restaurant for Dim Sum. It's in the southern part of Montreal in a neighborhood called LaSalle. Let me tell you it was on par with places in Manhattan's Chinatown. Their shrimp noodle is nice and fresh, especially the way the noodle is made. It is silkier than most places. The shrimp dumplings were nice and fat. I recommend their fire roasted suckling pork plate. The meat was nice and lean and the crispy skin was excellent. Shrimp sui mi is amazing. I recommend the dry sticky rice as well, love that stuff, but save it for last as it is very heavy and if you have it first you will not want to eat anythinge else. Their sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf was also quite yummy (filled with bits of ground prok, chinese sausage, dried shrimp and half a hard boiled egg. This place has the best dim sum in Montreal in my humble opinion. Decor is nice, with just enough chinese touches without being too overdone :-) read more

first one in the restaurant, and seated instantly, brought tea and utensils which were promptly returned. ( utensils) Dim Sum is ordered a la carte, as opposed to having carts circulating, it was served one dish at a time as soon as it came out of the kitchen, so it was hot, contrary to what one experiences from the carts on occasion. they probably need to change their cooking oil, it was a bit rank , the food was average, nothing remotely exiting about it. it filled up with Chinese, which is a good sign, obviously from the neighbourhood. the bill was quite a shock however, substantially more than I am used to paying .... if I am in Lasalle and hungry, it is where I will go to eat, having a strong preference to authentic Asian food, but do not go out of your way to eat here. I've been to a lot of chinese restaurants/dim sum places, and Chez Ping is among the worst. I've been here a couple of times and the first thing that is a downer are the prices. Compared to places in Chinatown, the portion sizes are noticeably smaller and yet they are more expensive. A normal dish costs around 14$ could probably feed you well if you are a group of 4-5 people, but if you come here as a large group, then good luck satisfying your tummy. For example, fried foods occasionally have more batter than meat, or a supposed beef dish is actually half-filled with vegetables. Of course chinese restaurants employ these tactics to make sure they make more profit, but a lot of them don't go overboard compared to Chez Ping. Not to mention, the dim sum prices are just as expensive and smaller in portion size compared to other restos. Okay, so since prices are high, the portion is small, then surely the quality of the food must be good? Actually, not exactly. Normal dishes involving beef/chicken/porc and okay and decent. However, a main area of concern is the seafood. A lot of it tastes unfresh and just absolutely disgusting. Dim sum dishes are very frustrating. Besides the annoying small portions, they are sometimes overcooked or badly seasoned. By the way, the char siu dish ACTUALLY HAD BONES IN THE MEAT. Are you serious?!? BONES IN CHAR SIU??? Yall trippin. I don't even know what to say. That's just plain tragic on layers of tragic. I don't really care much for customer service, since all I really want is a good meal. And their service was not bad actually. The waiters have a good attitude and attended to us properly. However, they were rather annoying during dim sum hours as they would occasionally bring out newly-cooked plates of food without being served on the trolley and try to sell it to customers. First of all, that's annoying, and secondly, it's so obvious they're trying to push their customers to spend more money. That's not cool, that's playing with my emotions mang. I really don't have many positives to say about this place. It's not even a disappointment, it's more like an insult to all the good chinese restos I've been to. Go somewhere else in chinatown or something, because unless you like throwing bills in the air and dining on small mediocre food portions, then there won't be much to be happy about. read more

I saw some good reviews so I thought I would try it. I ordered #42 beef with vegetables in black bean sauce. Picture looked nice with red peppers etc. What I got was sliced beef (ok) with onions (ok) and only green peppers (not ok. Too bitter if not including red peppers). No sauce. It was in about 3/4 cup of water (I am not kidding). I should have brought it back to get a refund. Instead I will never order from them again. If they do not know the difference between a sauce and a soup then there is no hope for them. read more

I don't want to sound mean and all, but this was worst than I thought. I went there once and didn't enjoy it very much, but I didn't remember why. Everything kept disappointing me by the minute. When it was finally time to drink my favourite shark/crab fin soup, I had my hopes up but it had absolutely no taste at all and the lobster had no meat.
