    Different bao's

Ordered the Char Siu Bao which was pretty good. Had the green tea and red bean bao which was not good to eat. Looked good. Tried the fresh fruit banana/strawberry shake. They had fresh fruit but added powder. Eehhh that did not go well.

Like everyone else, we got sucked in by the baos/buns with a cute face. I picked the one with the Doraemon but it has no taste despite the red bean paste inside. It was just like eating a man tao plain steamed bun.  Hubby got a mushroom and chicken and he literally had to peel off all the bun part because there was hardly any "meat" inside.  I think okay just to look here, no need to buy any.

Can't get enough of the Bao bum from here. Everytime I go into China town, I must get one. If it's not to eat right now, it's for later. I often take a cute little piggy melting chocolat #17 and bbq beef #8. Both are just so good. I did try the mini melt once and it was very good. There's way more then just buns here and so far, I liked everything I tried. There's lots of choice for every taste. I also tried the mos bun kimchi beef. It was good but kimchi isn't something I like very much. Staff here is always polite and serve with a smile. Some are very popular which means there might not be anymore or have to wait. There's also bubble tea offering next to it.

Cute baos, but you'll find better elsewhere in terms of taste. I got six so I could get a good sample too. All of them were big (covered my entire palm), but were dry and lacked a lot of flavor. Get the baos if you must for the social media, but keep your expectations in check when you finally bite into one. Shrimp dumplings ok too. If you purchase six baos, they'll waive the tax.

Stumbled upon this place by accident, and was so happy I did. I struggle with eating cute things, and this was no exception, because I found myself developing a bond with this chocolate pig bao. Don't worry, though, because I persevered. He was very delicious. I got two bao for $6, which I though was a pretty solid deal, especially when they're so cute.

I am a sucker for cute food and this place does not disappoint. Not only do they a variety of classic dim sum options but they can't a large steer box of savoury and sweet bun optiosnshaped in various animals as well. They have traditional Taiwanese rice bowls with meat and veg on steamed ice for under $10 that are filling and comforting. Beware, they close pretty early so this is.not a late night place at all even though this place would thrive feeding night crowds with their tasty treats Pricing is decent

BaoBao Dim Sum - Angry Bird bao (strawberry chocolate) and Bear bao (red bean paste)

BaoBao Dim Sum is located in Montréal Chinatown, along the popular pedestrian street (Rue De La Gauchetière). One of the specialties is the fun character steam bun variety. Each "bao" or steam bun is enough for a breakfast meal, and is about $3. Despite having just ate a meal, my kid was eager to devour the Bear bao with brown sugar & red bean paste, and ate nearly half of it to our amazement! Next day, we enjoyed the Chiclet bao with mango coconut filling, the Angry Bird bao with strawberry chocolate, and the Porcupine bun with taro paste. These fluffy baos & unique fillings were fun delights. We also tried their salted egg custard buns. Their entrance is shared as an offshoot of Patisserie Harmonie. BaoBao Dim Sum is on the right side. We made the mistake of turning left & was initially disappointed about not being able to find the steam buns. A tax discount was applied for a pack of 6 buns.

This little restaurant sells steamed buns (bao), dim sum, savoury dishes, and bubble tea drinks. The attractive items are their cute colourful cartoon-character dessert buns such as a panda (black sesame paste), hedgehog (taro paste), pig (melting chocolate), angry bird (strawberry with melting chocolate), chicken (mango coconut), and more. We ordered the following bao: 1. Chicken (Mango Coconut) ($3.00) 2. Hedgehog (Taro Paste) ($3.50) 3. BBQ Pork ($2.00) They were all delicious and fun to eat. They are a few counter seats but it is mainly a takeout restaurant. During pandemic times, there is plexiglass at the order/checkout counter. Staff wear face masks. There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible (there are 2 steps). There are no customer washrooms. There are paid street parking in the neighbourhood. To this day, Boa Bao Dim Sum has remained a favorite of mine after all these years. Service is always friendly and quick. The bao is flavorful no matter if you choose sweet or savory. The employees speak perfect English and they take credit card...which means several trips a day for their delicious bao. No joke, when I'm staying in Montreal, I visit Bao Bao Dim Sum at least once a day and I always bring home quite a bit.

Cute bun, but didn't taste good.

I got a pork bun and one of the cute dessert buns. I took one bite of each and tossed them out. Take a picture of the cute buns and don't waste your money.

This place has such cute buns. I love the variety they have. I got the Blueberry Bun with Red Bean Paste and Green Tea Paste Bun. The Blueberry Bun did have a hint of blueberry fragrance, but couldn't taste any blueberry flavor. The red bean paste was good but sweeter than I'd prefer. The green tea paste was a little better in that it wasn't as sweet. The buns themselves were fine -- they were soft and fresh but not light and airy. They had some density to them, which is what I like. I did think there could've been a little more filling to balance out the dough-to-filling ratio, but the ratio wasn't that bad.

I was doing all things touristy in Chinatown when I came across Bao Bao Dim Sum. OMG, this place has steamed buns in cute characters! Love Sanrio characters, such as Hello Kitty and Doraemon? You can find them here. Want a panda steamed bun? Yep, you can get a dozen if you wanted to. The cute character steamed buns range from $2 to $2.50. You can also get regular steamed buns that range between $2 and $3.50. This place accepts debit and cash only. I was mesmerized by how creative this bakery is. As much as I would have liked to have bought one of each, I settled for the chick (mango coconut filling) and the bunny (green tea paste filling). They were adorable. I had the bunny steamed bun when I got back to my hotel room. The downside is that you get far more dough than filling. It was good. For breakfast, I changed things up and had the chick steamed bun. It was yummy. I loved it better than the bunny. I simply love coconut and pineapple. Again, you get more dough than filling. This place also has egg waffles. I was watching a woman brush oil in each egg crater of her waffle maker. It seemed so laborious. Then again, the lineup was so long waiting to get my steamed buns that it was fascinating watching her do it. You can also order dim sum items to either eat in the place or do takeout. I had already eaten dinner and wanted these steamed buns more, so I passed. This bakery offers unique creations. I wish we had a bakery like this bakery in the GTA. I loved my visit here. (320)

We ordered a pork Bao that was good. I ordered a Green tea peach boba bubble tea that was very good and a good price. I would go back again

Kim Fung is a in a shopping center and was pretty full but we were able to be seated right away. They brought up dishes on carts and we were able to order even though our table was in the corner. While we were there, the fire alarm was ringing. It did not seem like there was a fire, and three fire trucks even came to check things out, but no one inside the restaurant seemed concerned so everyone kept eating. The food was good but it was a little annoying eating with the fire alarm on. We ordered a lot of dim sum classics that we eat back home in California but it seemed like the prices were lower than what we normally pay back home. The disappointment came in the form of a small hair in my dumpling-- it happens! We decided to go next day, and waited approximately 35 minutes. While this place is small, but it was definitely somewhat loud and quite a delight of clean, friendly staffed, and incredible service. We tried the original pork, spicy pork, and the beef dumpling; along with the fried pork dumpling with chives. All of it was delicious!!! Yes it may been greasy, or oily; well, that was expected since its pork based soup dumpling-- I can see why others feel that ginger was a must-- but it wasn't mandatory must. Our faves was the spicy pork dumpling and the fried pork and chives. Seriously; so damn good!! Thank you for all your service that was provided.

You can have an extremely filling meal under 20CAD if you're willing to wait a bit as there is a queue both outside and for servicing. I found the appeal of this restaurant to be moreso in the flavors than the technique though. (Tom Yum XLB: B) - Impressive flavor profile that has a mild spice with a powerful cilantro note. Really love the uniqueness of this, even though it lacks soup and actual rememory of tom yum. These are double the price of the main series XLB though. (Scallop, Shrimp, Pork XLB: A) - Fantastic combination of filling with whole shrimp and scallop. Although, since it lacks much soup and the skin is quick thick, this is almost closer to a siu mai instead. Nevertheless, 10 pieces at 16CAD is a stellar deal here. (Curry Beef Potsticker: B) - Another unbeatable deal of 12CAD for 12 dumplings; the curry flavor works well for this type of dumpling, and I like the thickness of the connecting lattice. As has been mentioned elsewhere, it's up a flight of stairs, it opens around 10:30, and the carts start coming around about 10:45. There's also a sort of order and take out counter to the left of the entrance. Menu items can also be ordered inside while dim sum is coming around. The carts come out slowly and increase in number about every 15 minutes or so, and items seem to come out in a predictable order. You're given a small ramekin with a spicy sauce and mustard in it, which for me is sufficient. I don't feel the need for soy sauce for dim sum, nor is it on the table and has to be requested. One thing I liked is that the cost of items appear on the card for each row, so that you can maintain a rough idea of how much your meal has cost so far. The other thing I liked is the atmosphere. It was very friendly and relaxed, and I noticed many of the staff waving to individuals as they entered, probably regulars. While they didn't have necessarily the variety of offerings I've had at other dim sum restaurants, the overall experience was quite enjoyable and worth considering on future visits to Montreal.
