Came here for Saturday brunch after deciding Maison Pickle was too far lol. We arrived around 11:30 am and were seated immediately, the restaurant was a little busy but not insanely crowded or too loud. We opted to sit inside, and the furniture is memorably sturdy and high quality. I ordered the Homemade Breakfast Biscuit Sandwich, which was $17. It consisted of a flaky and soft square biscuit cut in half, with a large sausage patty, fried egg, cheese, and chipotle mayo. The dish also comes with "yukon potato home fries", which seem to be the same as the other home fries on the menu (e.g. for the Soft Scramble). The potatoes were very well seasoned and flavorful with a lot of what I think was parmesan and dried chili peppers. The biscuit was buttery and dense, and the sausage patty was thick. Its the best version of a simple sausage egg and cheese biscuit with potatoes. Imo $17 is a little expensive for the relatively basic ingredients, even if the biscuit is homemade... maybe I don't value brunch very high compared to other meal types... but compared to other brunch places in the area, Chez Nick is actually a pretty good value. I don't really see how much better a sausage egg and cheese biscuit could get. read more

Wow, I really had high expectations of this restaurant but it unfortunately fell short. I walked in, and don't know if it was because of the sidewalks outside being wet from the past snowfalls but I basically twisted my ankle past the host table and while being led to the way to our table. Not a good start. Maybe there should be a carpet there when you walk in to prevent a slippery wooden floor incident? We didn't get any water or get greeted by a waiter/waitress for maybe 10-15 minutes, not the best start again. We got the crab cake, which was pretty good, to start. Then we got the duck and the burger. I would say the burger was definitely very delicious, and I liked it more than the duck. Highlight: For dessert, we got the chocolate chip cookies with milk and WOW those were really good. The service got a bit better as the meal went on but overall (still had to flag down just to pay the check) I don't think I will be rushing back, unfortunately. read more

I've walked the dog past this place many times and wanted to try it out so we finally did. Our first round of drinks were great, the jalapeno salt on the margarita is quite tasty, but was a foreshadowing of what was to come. The appetizer of salmon tartare was fun and hit the spot. I had the pork steak with rice and an egg, and my partner had the steak fries. The pork was cooked just right, as were the rice and eggs, but the dish was SO salty my tongue was hurting halfway through the meal and even though I was still hungry I decided not to finish my meal. The steak came cooked the way he requested, medium rare, and came pre-sliced too. The steak had definitely been tenderized as it wasn't an amazing cut of steak. And it was drenched in a sauce that was ALSO SUPER SALTY! Someone at Chez Nick has lost their sense of taste to think the amount of salt in our meal was servable. A bit belated review of @cheznicknyc a newish restaurant in my neighborhood. I had the shakshuka and my friend a burger with Parmesan fries. I couldn't keep my hands off of the fries. They were really good. My friend, the burger aficionado loved hers. To my taste, Shashuka was missing something. Maybe a bit more tomato sauce or feta cheese. Or at least hot sauce on the side it may be just that I always forget that sometimes eggs are too eggy for me. But shakshuka is such a healthy meal! Best coffee! Really excellent. My friend and I go Sunday breakfast every week and this is truly among the best coffee I have tasted. Great service and ambience. I would absolutely go back. Not for the shakshuka perhaps. My fiancé and I go to Chez Nick all the time - we love the ambiance, the food, the drinks, the service it's all great! Our go to order is the crispy brussel sprouts and we each get the burger. It's juicy and flavorful. Never disappoints. We recently tried out their brunch and really loved the biscuit breakfast sandwich. So flavorful and the portion was perfect. It's elegant and elevated American food with influences from all over the world. I ordered the pappardelle and it was really good. The texture of the papparedelle was perfectly al dente. It was slightly undersalted but still yummy. The DO NOT MISS: parmesan fries -- they tasted double fried and we ate this up so quickly. I haven't been to New York in years, yet our hotel desk personnel recommended this little place. It was only a block away, and I have to say that the Staff were some of the friendliest people I've ever met, and the food was delicious. They made me an amazing old fashion, and although they have a variety of menu options, I was craving a good burger. I ordered their smash burger with special sauce, and the sauce was not the only thing that was special. It was perfectly cooked and plated and I ordered my fries Parmesan , which were so good that everyone else at the table kept stealing them. The ambience was warm and cozy. We stopped at Chez Nick on a rainy night but the outdoor seating was covered with still having the sidewalk facing side completely open. No heaters yet when I was there. Made a reservation same day with only a 9pm but we were able to be seated early when we got there at 8:30ish. Service was great, we were given a paper with plastic slip menu, and they have rotating specials. Food was excellent! For a group of 3 (same household), we did family style. We started with the foie gras mousse which was a nice appetizer. Nice soft but crispy pieces of bread and some jam, mustard and little pickles to accompany it. Generous portion of the mouse as well. The second starter we had was the little gem salad which had pretty large gems of lettuce and we didn't have knives. Dressing was pretty light and I would probably skip this next time. For entrees, we had the burger, the duck, and the octopus. The stars were the first two! The burger was so juicy! Double patty with a gallop of cheese and sauce that paired so well together! The fries were well seasoned and they have homemade ketchup! The duck was also cooked to perfection and I really liked getting a little bit of duck and apple slice on each bite for a sweet/savory blend. The charred octopus was standard, a little too charred, but the other 2 dishes were the real highlights! While you're here, I would also recommend getting a cocktail! Try: Handmade spinach and artichoke rotolo pasta with homemade ricotta. Why: Support local small businesses as part of NYC Restaurant Week for $20.21. The Rotolo was a delicious Italian dish that was creamy and full of flavor. This was a unique dish I've never had before and looked like rolled-up pasta. It came with three large pieces with a base layer of bechamel, a creamy white sauce. It was neat digging into the Rotolo and dip each bite into the sauce. The meal also came with cannellini beans with broccoli rabe and roasted red peppers, which was good. I would have liked more broccoli rabe. Overall, a great meal! read more

The crab cakes. Our bartender Laura was really sweet and knew her liquor. Had a couple or their cocktails as well. Endless Summer tequila, watermelon, st. germain, spiced agave, lime Likely Tequil 'Ya herradura silver, crème de violette, lavender, lime, lemon. This was a nice summer drink. Crispy Jonah Crab Cake with Pimento cheese, pickled green tomato relish. When you layer all this up together it's a solid crab cake. Lemongrass Pork Steak with garlic fried rice, savoy cabbage, brown butter & thai chili vinaigrette, fried egg. This was really good.. pork was cooked really well. Restaurant Week Menu Items: Shrimp Tostadas marinated shrimp, smashed avocado, crispy tortilla. Didnt need the jalapeno on top. Personally would have preferred the shrimp marinade to be a little more sharp. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. Pan Roasted Hudson Valley Steelhead Trout brown butter corn, sherry braised cippolinis, chimichurri, cauliflower puree. This was wow! The fish was perfectly seared and the cauliflower puree was perfect pairing. Banana Cream Pudding vanilla cookies, cocoa nibs, caramelized banana. This was really deelish! As an Upper East Sider for many years, I heard the buzz around this new spot and was excited to try it. We came tonight for Restaurant Week, and were unfortunately completely underwhelmed. The setting is lovely and welcoming, and I so wish the whole experience was on par. We ordered the Greek salad (simple but fresh and tasty). Then we had the trout (tiny fillet with some roasted corn. Left much to be desired) and the lumache alla vodka (this was good). We shared, and I felt terrible that my partner had such a small portion. The biggest disappointment were the desserts. We were told all three Restaurant Week options contained gelatin (in the whipped cream??). Our waitress was professional in mentioning that, once we notified her we do not eat meat. She went to the chef and relayed the messaged that both the chocolate mousse and strawberry shortcake could be modified for us. We ordered one of each to try: the mousse in house, and the cake to-go. We got home and opened the container only to find a small square of sponge cake (just the sponge base, nothing else) with some strawberries. How embarrassing. There are so many ways this could have been handled better. We will unfortunately not be back again. read more

The cheeseburger was seriously good - and I got it delivered so I'm even more impressed that I enjoyed it so much. I would definitely order the burger available and again. The fries would have been great in the restaurant but weren't so portable - they came delivered a bit soggy. I tried the Mac and cheese and fava bean pasta dishes. The fava bean wasn't my personal favorite (too lemony for me), but I could see how someone else would love it. Both were good quality dishes. Pasta itself didn't taste homemade. I also didn't personally like the carrot dish because the flavors weren't for me, but all of the dishes here were good quality food and I'd definitely order again. read more

We come here as a Family every week. Recently we have been some issues which I suspect can be attributed to the hostess who works on the weekend. She always seem overwhelmed and recently it is translating being a little abrupt and rude. The overall food is great; the Server team generally very helpful and courteous. The location is convenient to where we live. I hope they can be a little more conscious about the attitude and being more mindful about treating people with respect and courtesy. read more

I came here without a reservation on a random weeknight and they were still able to easily accommodate us. The Caesar salad is exceptionally flavorful and has real anchovies (thankfully only two so those of us who don't like sucking down little fish can push them to the side). Been there twice during the last week and both times left somewhat unsatisfied. Service was good the first time as their manager was there and she walked around making sure everything was fine. I ordered two appetizers: tuna tartare and squash soup. Both dishes tasted way over seasoned and left me with upset stomach. Today I ordered herb crusted salmon. I received a very small tail piece that lacked any flavor and it was mostly fats.(farm raised too) I had one bite and sent the dish back to the kitchen. Salmon came with a variety of veggie pieces that were hard to identify due to all that seasoning and mustard. Seemed like leftovers from other dishes. Service was bad and I mean really bad. We sat down and waited for over 10 minutes before I managed to draw attention of a waitress who took an order from a table next to ours. She gave me some attitude but took the order for kids meal. ( refused taking my order as my husband who was also going to order an entree was not present at the table). Our waiter finally showed up with my salmon, my husband's burger and spicy fries (not supposed to be spicy). After I took 1 bite of my dish and wanted to send it back to the kitchen, the waiter was nowhere to be found. I had to ask another waiter twice to call for our waiter. Finally, a hostess (not our waiter!)came to our table and took my dish. We requested a check. Check never came lol! We got our kids ready to go, got up and started walking. Finally, our waiter comes running. We gave him the card but we still had no check for us. So my verdict is maybe go there for drinks or walk to 2nd avenue for a much better experience. We sat outdoors so admittedly food got cold pretty quickly (which is obvs a me problem). Cocktails were decent. Think my only qualm with this spot is the menu is kind of all over the place so i can't really put my finger on what type of cuisine they even have, so makes it a hard choice when you are craving something particular. The hostess graciously took my takeout order as she saw me struggling to go the online route, which helped start the process sooner. Then, my order (burger and fries) came out in a reasonable amount of time, and for NYC wasn't that bad a price. The food itself was wrapped properly and survived the 7 minute walk home. They definitely use quality ingredients here and their vibe is great for a Sunday brunch. Portion sizes are on the money too....they have the basics down but they don't execute on delivering you an amazing meal the way they have the potential to. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it came out super soft and almost kind of soggy. I love soft eggs but these eggs were way too soft....every bite into the burrito it gushed out like water running through a pipe. Not a good experience with my entre at all but thankfully the apps we ordered were great like the Parmesan fries, grilled beets and Brussels sprouts (my personal favorite). I'll come back and try more menu items but will stay away from the breakfast burrito. read more

My favorite was the brown butter gnocchi with mushrooms, so flavorful and has a creaminess to it! The burger was cooked well so juicy and fries were crispy, good portions too! Uhhhmazingggggg! Sorry, amazing food! The pastas we got looked too good to capture a picture of so only caught a snapshot of the ricotta app. Also delicious! We had Braised Duck Pappardelle and Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle. I really haven't had pasta this good since Pre-pandemic. Also their outdoor seating arrangement was super cute, socially distanced with plenty of fresh air, and with a HEAT LAMP at every table! (A rare find!) Our server was really friendly, had fantastic recommendations and he had obviously tried all the food so knew what to recommend. For a final plus, the drinks were delicious! I'm so happy to have Chez Nick in the neighborhood! I love living in Yorkville, but there sometimes feels like there is a dearth of trendier spots, especially on York Ave. near my apartment. With a beautiful interior and contemporary menu, Chez Nick definitely fills a void. I went to Chez Nick for outdoor dining brunch, and they have a great setup. Plenty of tables, huge covered painted plywood build-out, and East 91st St. is relatively quiet for Manhattan, so you don't have noisy trucks whirring by you constantly. I ordered the little gem lettuce salad and ricotta toast on grilled country bread. The salad was perfectly refreshing and the gremolata gave a crisp crunch. The ricotta toast was great too, with crossed lines of pesto and tomato sauce to add acidity and contrast. Everything was presented very nicely, which helps since we eat with our eyes first. I'll definitely be back soon to try out dinner in their gorgeous indoor dining room. read more

What's there to say? Chez Nick remains one of the best "hidden gems" of the upper east side. The locals have figured it out, and it's not as easy as I'd like it to be to get a reservation, but they deserve to be booked solid. Went tonight with two friends - we got two drinks each (their hot toddy was fantastic and definitely kept me as warm as possible on a 30 degree night, along with the space heaters), 3 vegetable "sides" which came as apps, and then 3 mains. All this food for $80/person at the end of the night, inclusive of a 24% tip. The veggies we got were the carrots, cauliflower, and brussels sprouts. All delicious, but the sprouts stole the show. They're the best ones I've ever had, no contest. We asked the waitress what goes in them. Truly this restaurant is worth the visit for the sprouts alone. For our mains we got the half chicken, the pappardelle with duck ragout, and the steak special of the evening. They were all fantastic, but the chicken especially with its perfectly crispy skin and that INSANELY DELICIOUS sauce it comes in did it for us. A perfect dinner for one: sprouts and chicken. All this fantastic food with excellent service on a quiet block seated at a spaced out table, and Chez Nick delivers the perfect evening. Can't wait to go back again and again (and again). read more

The food and service is terrible when you come to this place by yourself to have some dinner. I waited a while until a waiter casually stopped by my table. I ordered the aged meatball ($23), the sauce is so spicy that you cannot taste the tomatoes or anything, I had to ask for salt because it was bland, yes something so spicy can be bland. The overly spicy sauce made the pasta inedible, the meatballs came cold and bland as well had to add salt. I had to look for someone to give me some salt, when my waiter saw me she assumed I wanted the check already. During my dinning experience not once a waiter came to me to ask me how my meal was, not the waiter cared when I told her that the food was inedible. For a very simple meal that costs you $51, it is not worth it! No one cares read more
