Crispy Eggplant
Matt H.

Decent. We started with the eggplant which was good, but oddly some pieces were deliciously crispy while others were mushy. The inconsistency was a bit of a throw off. Flavor was good though I must say. For dinner I had the grilled trumpet mushrooms, which were good as well, but nothing amazing. I am sure we would've been better off ordering the burger, but we weren't in the mood tonight. Service was good. It was a pretty quiet night so I didn't expect it to be bad at all. Our waitress was nice but didn't really provide anything to our meal or experience. Ambience is one of my favorite things about this place. It's super casual and easy which is great to have in the neighborhood. Overall, I'll definitely come back to Chez Nick for an easy weeknight dinner and would recommend it as an easy place to come. Don't expect anything to WOW you, but everything is gonna be good.

Chez Nick was everything and more than what I expected! I've been wanting to try Chez Nick for a long time as every time we walk by, it is always so busy inside and out! They have wonderful outdoor tables overlooking York Ave. Finally today we went! I called ahead to make sure they can accommodate 2 baby strollers as we were going with a friend also with small baby and immediately when I called, the response was absolutely. This already made me feel good about the choice to come here. When we arrived the outdoor tables were full but inside was completely empty! We were able to sit comfortably with 2 baby strollers indoors. For food, I loved their fried chicken sandwich and the burger! Both were delicious. I did opt out of the fries with my chicken sandwich and was able to replace with a refreshing salad! Overall great service, family minded restaurant and delicious food! Look forward to returning!

Place was excellent! We were seated promptly. Staff were attentive, helpful, and friendly. The restatement feels really chic and cozy but not small. We came for brunch so we ate and drank cocktails. It was fantastic to not be hawked or rushed. Food was great all around. Fresh, tasty, good portions. Main dishes were ~$20/each. Not terrible. Totally recommend this place.

The food was good! Wait staff needs to slow down ~ we had numerous people bring us our food / drinks and there were as many spills ~ because they were rushing to put it down.

Avocado toast

Came here for Sunday brunch and had a pleasant experience! We didn't have a reservation so we sat outside. Luckily, the weather was so beautiful. I got the avocado toast, which was filling and fresh.

Been multiple times now since we live next door. First time I tried the falafel bowl a few weeks ago, highly recommend!

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

This is a great spot for brunch! Cute on the inside with fast service and delicious food. The buffalo chicken sandwich was everything I hoped for and the fries were even better than I expected!

Wedge Salad

I had a lovely little salad at Chez Nick. The lettuce was very fresh, the dressing was delicious, and the bacon and tomatoes were super tasty. The service was really meh - nice when they came by, but very infrequent and almost impossible to wave over. There were several times when we needed more water or drinks and it took a really long time. My friends had some kind of egg sandwiches that they enjoyed, though.

Crab Rangoon Dumplings, Roasted Eggplant, Crispy Brussels Sprouts

Ambiance (5/5): There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The inside was a little dark, spaced out, and low volume. There is also high bar top seating. Dog friendly (both indoors and out!) Service (5/5): We were serviced quickly and often. All our orders were prepared as instructed. We shared an entrée and our server asked to have the burger cut in half for us! Brussel Sprouts (5/5): Lovely crisp to a sweet bite of vinaigrette. The pomegranate seeds gave the dish a nice color! Crab Rangoon Dumplings (4/5): The dumplings were on the small side but stuffed with crab meat. The sweet sauce complimented the rich cream cheese taste. My only qualm was that it wasn't as good without the sauce. Roasted Eggplant (5/5): I was a fan of the brown butter sauce. The especially liked the small spice kick of the red peppers and bites of mint! Smash Burger (5/5): Huge fan of their burger!! I loved the flavor of their caramelized onions. I need to know what their special sauce is! Their bun was soft and held the burger well. The fries were cooked well-done upon request and were a lovely crunch. Absolutely loved my dining experience and would come back again for their other dishes

Little Gem Caesar

Everything here is well thought out and you can really tell it matters. This is our go to spot for a burger when we aren't in a rush and want to sit down and enjoy. Everything we have had though has been awesome! The Caesar salad is sooo good and always fresh and crispy! Chez Nick does an awesome thing of being elegant yet feeling like a neighborhood spot which I love! The servers are always so friendly and we will continue to keep coming back!

Lava cake

Made a reservation and came ~7pm on Sunday. Ambiance was relatively calm and there were a few tables open. Service was friendly and efficient. Squash and burrata: We started off with our favorite dish of the night. The ingredients were super fresh. The pesto on top provided an extra burst of flavors. Highly recommend. Butternut ravioli pasta: Al dente pasta with flavorful sauce that is mildly sweet, sour, and savory. Very delicious but there were only 4 raviolis . . . I (a female adult) was still hungry after eating it. Big burger: meat cooked perfectly as requested. Fortunately my partner was willing to share his food, so I ate ~1/2 of his fries and was no longer hungry. Delicious but not worth it for me so I will not get it in the future but my partner likes it and may get it again. Lava cake: cake was good but the vanilla ice cream is even better. Not sure I would get it again next time.

Kick ass kale salad, which is usually an oxymoron.

Split verdict on this bustling neighborhood spot. We originally wanted to sit outdoor on the side street, but there was a really loud exhaust fan upsetting the zen. Then we thought that we would dine indoors, but it was too warm in the dining room. We wound up sitting outdoors on York Avenue. The chairs were uncomfortable. We got past it. We got to Nick's for the last night of restaurant week and ir was an excellent deal. We shared the surprisingly good kale salad and the crispy cauliflower. The dip for the cauliflower was at the bottom of the bowl and hard to get to, but was worth the effort. The hangar steak was delicious. The accompaniments were vividly flavored. We shared creme brûlée and a great brownie sundae. The staff were nice but seemed overwhelmed. Out drinks didn't arrive until after our appetizers and they brought out the wrong appetizer for one of us. The food was great. The restaurant wasn't comfortable and the service was befuddled. The food was good enough that I would give them another shot. I'm rounding up a 3.5.

Just Beet It cocktail

Steak frite was pretty good - the steak was just a bit fatty and not a huge portion. But it was flavorful

Neighborhood spot but probably the best option in Yorkville, which is a bit of a restaurant desert over on York Ave.

What a cool concept, a Michelin quality tasting menu at a secret location!…read more I recently discovered this group via Instagram, their menu is always rotating but the price was really good for NYC - 6 courses for $130 (which includes, tax, tip, and wine pairings)! Since the concept was so interesting and the pricing was really good, I decided to give it a try and booked a reservation for 2 people for a Saturday night dinner. Following my booking, I was emailed instructions for location a few hours later as well as what to expect. The dining location for my dinner was in a rectory house, which still serves priests! It was a bit of a trek to find but it's a fun part of the experience :) The food: each of the six courses were served in timely cadence and I really appreciated that the chef offered such a thorough explanation of each dish both from the ingredients perspective as well as the inspiration behind it. The entire meal was also paired with 4 drinks, one cocktail and 3 wines, which was included in the total price of the tasting menu already. My favorites: -dragonfruit granite: this was a refresher between the "apps" and the "main courses" dishes, the colors were so vibrant and the flavors were nice and cool, great way to cleanse the palate before the heavy meat dish -hamachi crudo: this actually reminded me of ceviche, which is one of my favorite things to eat. The sauce was particularly yummy, it had just the right mix of creaminess that was complemented by the zesty-ness of the lime Overall, really enjoyed this unique dining experience. The food was yummy, the chefs were super fun and the price was a great value! Would definitely recommend dining with Chez Nous :) p.s. There is currently construction and scaffolding in front of the place, but you'll see signage where to go at the opening of the scaffolding. We walked in, past the bar and checked in. We were seated within 5 minutes. I ordered a bourbon old-fashioned and we ordered crab rangoon as a starter. There were a lot of them and the sweet chili sauce was great. For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. Plus I kept finding myself checking out the mural on the wall. Try it for yourself - but worth the fight to get a table.

The ceviche was probably the best ceviche I've ever had in my life. It was blood orange based, but the citrus was really well balanced. The king oyster mushroom dish was soo delicious. The sauce and the texture of the mushrooms were to die for. I've salivating thinking about them right now! The fish was also so amazing. The bottoms were so crispy, it was almost like it was a layer of potato chip! Really great texture, and the fish meat was cooked to perfection. It's a beautifully designed space, and we went in the evening so it was dimly lit and had good tunes, contributing to an intimate and cool vibe. The service throughout was good both by our primary server and the rest of the team that was bringing out dishes. For the food, we did not feel that it was a strong start, but the ending was great! The first dish to come out was their cornbread, which we agreed was very light and had a super tender texture, but there was just nothing special about the taste profile to us. The second dish were their prawns. We couldn't put our finger on the off-putting flavor in there, but we agreed that something just wasn't right and almost tasted spoiled. You also had to work a bit to dissect the prawns and remove the heads and skin. To work for it and then not enjoy the taste wasn't a great combo for us, unfortunately. It started turning around with their sweet potatoes, a type I'd never had before that were "baby" and purple on the outside while white inside. They served the potatoes with a gorgeously whipped Greek yogurt that added the exact right amount of tang to balance the sweet potato and the herby topping. The stars of the night were the coconut basmati rice and the lamb shank. My goodness! The rice dish was so complex from a flavor and texture profile and just hit all the right notes for us, and that lamb! Definitely one of the best lamb dishes I've had - Impossibly tender and seasoned to perfection. One other note I'll make regarding drinks is that they did not have a strong wine list. I ended up ordering a red, but later heard our waiter recommend against getting their wine to another table and suggesting their cocktails and mocktails instead. Just something to keep in mind if you're a wine lover!

This place was the winner, and it was everyone's first time. We got in at our reserved time, and we had to wait about 5 minutes before our table was ready. Once it was, we were taken care of and quite frankly had no idea what treat we were in for! Let's start with the drinks. They have a drink on the menu called Celadon City. Who won the staff as a pokémaniac?! I had to get it just for the name. The rice vodka, yuzu, melon liqueur, and other flavors made it a fantastic, summery drink. My friends got the Smooth Landing & Smooth Talker ... One was a fantastic dirty martini and the other had the best bite of ginger. The food... Oh my God. We decided to split the breads and spreads and burrata... Each came with their housemade grilled focaccia, and the smoked paprika hummus and ricotta with chili honey? WHEW! The burrata dish with the sweet potato, pesto and tomato jam was a hit too. The menu didn't even say I'd have a balsamic drizzle on top! All of that was just the warm up... My gnocchi dish was spectacular. I'm not even a big mushroom person, but those oyster mushrooms and charred kale were a hit in the pasta. My friends' gigli pasta and mussels were great too. We ended up sharing a bottle of white wine as well, and the dinner was truly a 5/5. 0 I would absolutely go back, and it seems like their menu changes every now and then.
