This is not a craft beer bar or a SF style cocktail bar. Even calling it a dive bar feels unfair, as authenticity like this goes far beyond the the prototype of that phrase. It was a fabulous performance by "The Carnegie Hall National Youth Orchestra Jazz, a remarkable ensemble, made up of the greatest young jazz musicians in the country who travel the world as cultural ambassadors, bringing the ever-youthful spirit of the music to audiences worldwide. For this exclusive performance and first Bay Area appearance, the band was joined by GRAMMY-winning vocalist, composer, and 2017 NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater. Under the direction of trumpeter, Kris Johnson, the ensemble performed repertoire spanning classic works and contemporary compositions, including an arrangement by NYO Jazz and SFJAZZ High School All-Star alum Skylar Tang!" It has a large lobby with floor to ceiling glass. The acoustics in the Miner Auditorium were amazing. There is not a bad seat in this theater. We booked the tickets late and got seats In the last row of the balcony. (Row B). At first we thought we would have been so high up and would not being able to see or hear the performers and the band very well but that was not the case. The only problem was that the chairs in the last row of the balcony were a little high and uncomfortable. Plenty of room to stand so we opted to stand for most of the event. For our next visit we will try to select Row A instead of Row B. Overall a great venue for a Jazz concert. We did not have anything to eat at the restaurant so I won't be able to comment on the food. All staff members we encountered were very helpful. If you are looking for a nice venue for a Jazz concert in San Francisco, this is the place. It's easily accessible by BART from the Civic Center station or Muni from the Van Ness Station.

I went to Envelop not knowing what to expect based on some of the mixed reviews, and unfortunately,…read moreI was not impressed. The speakers and overall sound quality were very good, but the experience itself was extremely uncomfortable. Everyone is required to remove their shoes before entering a small room with 30-40 other people. With that many people packed into a confined space, the room did not smell very pleasant, especially when someone with smelly feet was sitting right next to you. The seating was even more disappointing. You sit on a carpeted concrete floor with a hard, uncomfortable backrest. Luckily, the show was only about 45-50 minutes long; otherwise, I probably would have gotten up and walked out. They really need to provide better seating, such as loungers or cushioned chairs. Honestly, even a basic beach chair would have been more comfortable. I would not go back until they change the remove the shoe policy and have better comfortable loungers or chairs. The sound system is impressive, but better seating and reconsidering the no-shoes policy would make the overall experience much more enjoyable.

Us neophytes were perplexed as to what exactly is going on here? Felt a bit like my visit to Rajneeshpurnam in Northern Oregon in 1984! The DJ person knows nothing about the record. It's a STUPID.COM stroke fest! They put on the featured record which was: "KIND OF BLUE" by Miles Davis. This is the biggest selling jazz record of all time, but I'm pretty sure the DJ person or presenter had NO idea. It also was one of the first records to have a predominant BASS LINE upfront ("BASS ON TOP") with the incomparable "MR. PC" (Paul Chambers). And, the "bass woofer" was turned OFF and I asked the lady after the gig and she said "Oh well, this isn't a very "Bassy" album so they probably turned it off. Pretty damn ironic. Immersive? I would've experienced more "immersive" on my car stereo sitting in the parking lot across the street listening to the Backstreet Boys! I was more impressed in my buddies family room in 1972 on his parent's $399.00 fake woodgrain 6 foot console stereo system with an eight track player and a turntable with sound organs built-in that flashed colored lights to the beat of the music.
