We arrived earlier than expected as we took Waymo so it was a smooth ride, no traffic and best of all no parking fees, LOL!! We even got to select Jazz Music as our genre of choice to set the tone for the night. We bought some pricy drinks at the lobby area both downstairs and upstairs before the concert. Note, you also get charged the mandatory "SF Mandate" or living wage surcharge to your bill. There was a heatwave in the Bay Area so they had opened up the glass doors upstairs so it was a beautiful evening with a slight breeze & perfect while we sipped our drinks before the show started. I used the bathroom before going in and they were very clean with modern amenities. The bell rang for us to take our seats and we sat in the upper most row on the right side. It's not a huge auditorium so practically every seat has a great view. We could really hear the drummer from our vantage point and see Hiromi's various expressions as she played her set. Such talent and it was a treat to see her play progressive jazz tunes to more melodic tunes and solos. Her trio was also very talented with a vast repertoire of experience behind them. There wasn't an intermission but you were allowed to get up and purchase other drinks at the bar or use the bathroom being mindful & respectful to the artists. We were allowed to take some photos and some were taking videos as long as the flash wasn't on. I saw a few people accidentally having their flash on but quickly turned them off. Attendants were nearby in case someone forgot and were taking a lengthy video or photos. The concert lasted almost 1.5 hours so it was a treat. I've seen a few concerts here like Pat Metheny, Dianne Reeves, Chris Botti, Joey Alexander, Latin Jazz to name a few and like I said, it's a smaller auditorium so every seat has a good view. You don't need binoculars, LOL! There's a small restaurant/bar downstairs as well as another smaller room for smaller acts. We didn't have time to go to the restaurant Absinthe this time but it's one of the restaurants that open late and is walking distance.

It has a large lobby with floor to ceiling glass. The acoustics in the Miner Auditorium were amazing. There is not a bad seat in this theater. We booked the tickets late and got seats In the last row of the balcony. (Row B). At first we thought we would have been so high up and would not being able to see or hear the performers and the band very well but that was not the case. The only problem was that the chairs in the last row of the balcony were a little high and uncomfortable. Plenty of room to stand so we opted to stand for most of the event. For our next visit we will try to select Row A instead of Row B. Overall a great venue for a Jazz concert. We did not have anything to eat at the restaurant so I won't be able to comment on the food. All staff members we encountered were very helpful. If you are looking for a nice venue for a Jazz concert in San Francisco, this is the place. It's easily accessible by BART from the Civic Center station or Muni from the Van Ness Station.

The staff, especially the wonderful woman in coat check, the attendant in the gentleman's.... powder room and the guy who worked my phone to reveal tickets in a super speedy fashion ... all are terrific assets to this establishment. I was in the area with my luggage with hotel accommodations down I. Half Moon Bay, so I used the "Bounce" app to locate a hotel, in a good neighborhood, that could hold my luggage until the end of the show. I chose La Luna Hotel. 1. Easy in. 2. Easy out. 3. Private parking lot. 4. $24 to hold 2 suitcases and a backpack. This ensured that my rental car, which was parked a couple blocks away, wouldn't have enticing items locked inside, causing me to return to find the car broken into and my belongings gone. La Luna was on my way south in a good neighborhood. I would return to this venue based on the sound of the band, it didn't ricochet all over the place. The sound guys did a fantastic job. Add all that up and you have a good experience. Next time, if I come for a show, I need more time to see the city and meet old friends. I had three good on-line friends and one acquaintance I haven't heard from in a few years that has that lives around the Bay Area and sadly there was simply no time to notify them and get reacquainted and maybe get touring suggestions from. Opened in 1922 as a vaudeville house, later a movie palace, it finally became a concert venue when Bill Graham brought Bob Dylan to the stage for multi-week residency in the 70s. The venue has over two thousand seats: midsized for the area. I've seen everyone from The Pretenders to The Arctic Monkeys here. Interpol, this week, was propulsive and memorable, with incredible lighting design. In terms of logistics and service, check in is usually efficient. The beverage program with recyclable cups works well. They have relatively comfortable chairs in the balcony, but leg room is tight unless in Lodge, where aisles are slightly roomier, but crucially so. (We try to sit when we can, and save our standing experiences for standing-room-only venues like GAMH. But if you like standing room, the venue feels very intimate from the floor.) The women's stalls in the bathroom are ridiculously tiny, and may require a yoga pose or two to successfully close the door. The staff range from super friendly and helpful to downright surly. We had a couple grumpy, brash male staff experiences last night, unfortunately. Despite a sometimes bumpy front of house experience, this is a classic SF theater with good acoustics and tons of character and atmosphere.

Hands down, one of the best Venues I have ever been too. Intimate, with a decor back to the 1800 gold rush days, the acoustics in this joint were fantastic. Everyone from barstaff to security were friendly and efficient in funneling people in, taking orders, and maintaining a fun environment. Drinks could be ordered at either the Bar downstairs, or upstairs, and were reasonably priced. All 3 bands brought high level energy and a great show, in an intimate setting Parking can be tricky, as the street parking availabilty depends on the time and day of show, and I did have to go all the way out to SF, but I am already scanning their future bills for my next show !

i jump at any opportunity to catch my favorite band at these smaller intimate venues!…read more great american music hall is san francisco core, a perfect combination of weird and elegant. the painted ceilings, the monumental columns, the balconies wrapped around the venue are just a few pieces that make this space magical. like what do you mean I can watch interpol with only 700 other fans? it's a treat, really. since the venue is small, you can pretty much get an okay view from anywhere. my least favorite part about venues like this is they're very long? (does that make sense) so if you're stuck behind tall people, you really can't move around anywhere on the sides. unlike larger venues like fox theatre or the warfield. the light production was amazing but i think the acoustics could use some work. entry was quick and easy, drink lines were managed well, crowd was super respectful, and I'll always recommend rideshare, parking is a bitch. overall you cannot beat the intimacy at venues like this!

The stage is small but enough for a small combo band with full size piano and good sound system. This was a bit of a learning experience for us as we discovered that there was a minimum food order of $30 per person in addition to the $50 we prepaid per person for the cover charge. We ordered a Double Smashburger with fries, additional side of parmeson fries, dinner salad, glass of wine, and mineral water. The hamburger, fries, and parmeson fries were delicious. The salad and dressing was good. The waiter was kind enough to let us know that there was a $90 minimum for our table of 3 that had not yet met. We decided to order 2 desserts. The Chocolate Ganache dessert was fantastic. The second dessert we ordered was a Guava Flan. There only a handful of dishes that I have ever eaten that have made it to my list of #1 worst dishes I have ever had. I was the last to try the Guava Flan and my party was eagerly waiting to see my reaction since they had already tasted it. The Guava Flan was unfortunately horrendous and not edible. I am not sure if it had gone bad or if the one who made it had issues with their taste buds or what...but it was absolutely the #1 worst tasting dessert I have ever had the displeasure of having. Aside from that, we had a great time. We will keep in mind the additional table minimums should we return to this establishment.
