Nice event space. We came for the Remy Martin tasting event last night which was held throughout the entire building. The downstairs was spacious and had a bar and cocktail tables set up, displays of Remy everywhere, upstairs had a private conference room with a view of the city. The event coordinators decorated the space really nicely. We were given golden coins to order our Remy beverages, but as a fan of Cognac - the way I like it is neat. As you waited for your tour and tasting, they passed around Ahi Tuna, Smoked Duck and Steak appetizers. Luckily we waited enough to have many gold coins given to us. The overall event was fun and I got to try a lot of really fine cognac, but a lot of the time it's all about the location. Close to public transportation, plenty of parking and ample space to hold any event. read more

Had a company event here and it was fantastic. Large area and with 3 floors and different theme. Great food and good decors. Dance floor on bottom with multi ethnic theme. Karaoke on 2nd and 3rd had balcony and champaign. Really nicely done. read more

Came here for the Windows Phone Night Market. The organizers had people waiting outside in the cold for an additional 30 minutes before they started moving the line. The place was cold even with the 200+ people inside and the heaters on. The place didn't start feeling warm until reaching the top floor. It is a 3 story building with the other 2 floors being just a 3rd of the 1st floor size. Problem was the restroom is on the 1st floor. Could be great for a club where everyone is moving, or for an event on a warmer night. read more

Dogpatch Studios is THE perfect place in the city to host your special events. I can not say enough good things about Terry and his establishment. A Bubbles Boutique was lucky enough to secure the Third Floor for our Spring Fling Event. The tall ceilings, wood floors and open air fun industrial lofty feel provided an amazing atmosphere for everyone who attended. One of our attendees even asked if the space was available to buy!! - She would have LOVED to live there! The Third Floor showcases fantastic views of San Francisco and the bay. The huge wall-to-ceiling windows/skylight, let in great natural light allowing our photographer Eric Lau to take some beautiful shots of our product and all the guests that attended the event. The outdoor deck was also a great place for guests to hang out and enjoy bubbles and refreshments during a wonderful sunny afternoon. Access to the Third Floor was easy too, guests could either use the elevator or stairs. The elevator was also nice and roomy letting us fit up to 3 racks of clothes at a time when setting up everything. Parking in the neighborhood was also very convenient. Dogpatch Studios really has it all - it's a unique venue with great amenities and I would recommend using Dogpatch Studios for your next event. An interesting, very concrete space perfectly suited for the Johnnie Walker tasting event it held last night. I was greeted with a long line outside, then slowly shuffled in and up the stairs (Eh great... its all dudes in this line). There was a great view of the San Francisco skyline as I gulped down my Black Label (Nice pour, but is this the only one I'm going to get???... oh shit, we gotta go downstairs now, Gulp gulp gulp... damn, I feel like cattle being herded around). Then we were guided down into a big presentation room where we were "educated" about Johnnie Walker's history and how it goes well with every drinking situation (God, this sales pitch is SOOO annoying). At the end of the presentation, we got the boot... (So not worth the trek out to this remote location where one might get mugged if it were darker). They did have little finger foods, cheese and crackers, and then during the presentation, they had a tasting of the 5 labels. the tastings were like pours from an eye dropper (although, the blue label tasting was decent) ... was intersting, but really not what I was expecting, nor what I wanted... read more

Been here in the past for a fashion show event and tonight for the Johnnie Walker tasting event. Was standing in line and someone mentioned that she attended a friend's wedding reception in the same space as well and was done up very nicely. I can see why, the upstairs space opens up into a nice patio overlooking the SF skyline and Bay front. Downstairs is a lofty feeling but the way JW set up the event was interesting and very professional. Was organized and no hustling around. Great setup, good sales pitch but I'm still not a scotch person but definitely an eye opener. And the 200 yr old bottle of Blue Label costs $3300. read more

This space is beautiful. We went to a wedding here last night, and it was such a cool setting. Our friends had the ceremony up on the top floor, and used the ground floor for the reception. Both spaces were perfect for how they were used, and provided a great backdrop that was hip on it's own, but also understated enough that it could really be customized to reflect the couple. It was also easy to find and parking was a breeze. read more

I am a fashion and advertising photographer and had a street shoot planned in the Mission and Dogpatch. The day before the shoot the forecast turned to rain and thunderstorms. So I scrambled at the last minute to find a location to stage out of and shoot when the weather was bad. I found Dogpatch studios and was thrilled with how accommodating Terry was and I was able to book the ground floor studio at the last minute. It turned out that this space is amazing and has great light and character and even through it was not planned I ended up shooting about half of this session in the studio and the adjacent stairway. I love this space and Terry is wonderful to work with as well. I will definitely be back to work in this space again. Terry thanks for saving the day and having such a great space. This is a great place to hold events. Clean bathrooms, clean big open space but still intimate, several levels! I came here for a Remy Martin tasting and I enjoyed the set up. We traveled through 3 of the floors to taste and learn about the cognac. It was just big enough. I liked it here and there are a few places to eat and drink around there. read more

This is a great place. Came here for the Johnnie Walker Whiskey tasting event. We had a great time. The view upstairs is great, overlooking the city. Super nice. The bartender made up some great drinks, for us to start of with. Before the main event. We mingled, ate snacks, talked and laughed. Once the tasting got started, it was great. The host was super cool. Funny, and articulate. Watched a mini movie. Crowd participation was good. The overall vibe and ambience was good. Looking forward to the next event. DogPatch's owner Terry was very attentive and helpful when planning our corporate event. The space can be as minimal as you want and built up for your needs. The view from the 3rd floor is gorgeous! The studios can be expensive, but the space is clean and can be changed to fit the event perfectly, the owner will go out of his way to help you, and the views are great. This space is great. The space is rustic, yet very contemporary, and large enough for a vast array of functions. We used as an indoor studio for a 3 day photo shoot and everything worked out great. The owners were also friendly and accommodating and we had no issues. Drop the dated, boring hotel conference rooms and try out this unique, cool space. read more

I took a Shu Uemura class here today. First let me say it was some of the finest show casing I have ever seen compacted in a 2 hour event. We checked out the Johnnie Walker Private Whiskey Tasting held here last night. Great event, but it just confirmed I'm not into Whiskey :) Neither here nor there - It was a very nice open space: slick design, clean & inviting. Reminded me of a particular studio in NY I checked out. While the audio downstairs could use a little help, the overall ambiance, vibe and view from the upstairs patio made up for anything that would seem like a downfall. Dogpatch studios is an amazing studio and event space. I work in the advertising photo world and i have been on several shoots that have taken place here, and have also been to several events which were held here, both photo related and otherwise. The first floor is amazing and often drops jaws. The sheer size of it and the surprisingly beautiful concrete walls often catch people off guard. Not to mention the full kitchen which i noticed had hi-end appliances. The skylights and also the huge window along one of the walls let in a good amount of light when you need it, and close when you don't. The third floor is another jaw dropper, with it's lofty feel and AMAZING view of the city/bay. There's a huge window/skylight which lets in great light for those natural light shooters out there. The window/skylight can also be blocked out just as well. And there's also a deck which is a great place to hang out for a lunch break on a shoot, or have cocktails during a social event. The second floor may not be quite as awe inspiring as the other 2 floors, but it's definitely a great usable space. Again having a lofty feel, but not quite as much light as the view the 3rd floor has. Great space for smaller shoots or meetings etc... Overall Dogpatch seems to offers a variety of spaces for a variety of needs, and I've seen all 3 spaces transformed into things I'd never imagine. read more

My nonprofit held their 7th Anniversary Gala at Dogpatch Studios with over 200 guests. The space was incredibly vast which allowed us to be as creative as we wanted to be. Terry and Junior were the most phenomenal hosts and they were extremely gracious and kind in going above and beyond to ensure we had what we needed. Working with them was just as good as the vastness of the space. Clean, concrete lines with areas to hang artwork. We hosted a company offsite on the 3rd floor. Terry and Junior were accommodating of needs. I arrived as early as 7:15 am, where Junior had set up the room to my specifications. He was very helpful in locating some additional supplies that we needed last minute. The experience was seamless. I will keep this spot in mind for future bookings! read more

Dogpatch Studios is a fantastic studio. This studio has been my #1 choice in San Francisco for years now. Terry and his staff have always been helpful and supportive and the space itself is top notch. Can't say enough about this place! It's just a great, clean and pro place to shoot if you're a photographer shooting in SF. They've got onsite grip/studio equipment and if they don't have what you need Pro Camera is right in the vicinity so it makes any shoot there worry free. The neighborhood is great and constantly improving so there are plenty of great food/coffee spots nearby for the crew. The upstairs spaces are great for most photo shoots while the downstairs is enormous and I've seen it handle 5 sets and a crew of over 20 people. No joke! I'll be coming back to this place as long as I'm shooting in SF. It's great! read more

We organized a product launch event here for our company and had a very positive experience working with the Dogpatch Studios team. The space is massive and beautiful. They have everything you need for a top-of-the-line event. We were able to use some of their in-house lights and tables to reduce costs. They have an excellent list of suggested vendors who were all super professional. Junior even went out of his way to personally hang the banners for the event. We highly recommend this space for any company event. It was a great success! read more

i need to start by saying that the other two previous reviews aren't really reviewing the space/service, but are mainly reviewing an event they attended here. i've been to more than one event here and i know terry heffernan (the photographer who owns dogpatch). they are a fully functional photography rental studio with one of the nicest daylight spaces in the city. their other two floors are less traditional than studios like leftspace or bluesky because the second floor is hardwood (beautiful, large) and the ground floor is a concrete warehouse-esque space (no white cove or painted walls). this space is really great if it fits your needs and terry and ian (his assistant) are great at getting you situated. they're pretty near pro camera (bonus) and not far from calumet. i dream of the day i can rent the daylight space. read more

I had an event over the weekend with my work that took place at Dogpatch. This is not an official review from my work and this review is just my personal views from being at the venue. The space is very well maintained and has everything you would need to host an event. The layout is spacious and clean and the location is pretty great. We used floors 1 and 2. The first floor is a large, open warehouse with a small kitchen area, a long counter area that is great for helping set up food or a bar, and a back room area with a big freezer, a room with cleaning supplies (mops, buckets, squeegees, and a huge sink), and a very nice little room we used as a "green room". Additionally there is a men's and women's room. The women's room had two stalls (one handicap access) and two sinks. The bathrooms were constantly stocked with plenty of soap, paper towels (there was also a blow dryer for hands) and plenty of toilet paper). There is also a small outside space between the doors and the roll up door that we used as a registration area. The upstairs is a large space we used for workshops plus restrooms. It could be used for meetings, conferences, seminars, talks... anything really. Patrick is fantastic. He was around all weekend and super kind and friendly. Whenever I saw him he was either helping break down boxes, taking out trash, asking how people were, and checking on his security staff. Speaking of security staff, Keith and KO are amazing. As soon as Keith arrived the first morning, he went to all of us and introduced himself. He was dressed nice in a suit with a lovely peacoat and hat. He kept an eye on everything, spoke to neighbors that walked by with their dogs or children, and was super kind to both the event attendees and our staff. He helped bring in 5 gallon jugs of water from my car without anyone saying anything at all. He went above and beyond anything I would have ever expected. KO was there the first evening, also super kind and friendly and also dressed very nicely. He was a trooper staying out in the cold all night. He also spoke to people, kept and eye on things, and helped out. This was a great experience and I highly recommend the venue to anyone. read more

The event's attendees seemed to be pleased with the space as well (and appreciated it's location in a charming part of the Dogpatch). I visited Dogpatch Studios recently for a small event for about 40 people. In addition to the 1,000 sq. foot space that we were in, there were several other large event rental spaces and each featured clean lines and lots of natural lighting! The location is easy to get to from downtown, but getting home was sort of rough (10PM and I had to go toward GGP), but I'd go to or host another event here in the future. read more

I selected the DogPatch Studio for a work event this past Saturday, which was a workshop with 30+ participants. The 3rd floor of the studio was fantastic! Terry was super helpful in getting us the tables, chairs, speakers and screen all set up, and the space was beautiful and really made the workshop enjoyable despite being indoors on such a beautiful day since we had plenty of space and tons of natural light. I would definitely plan another event here next time I am in SF! read more

I worked an event here last week for the Cognac tasting tour for Remy Martin. At first I had no idea what the dog patch was or how it got is name. Several people at the event actually explained it to me. The Remy tour had 3 flights and took a group of at least 25 people. It was very spacious and the bathroom itself was really nice and clean. There is also space for changing for staff as well. I thought that this is a pretty good place to hold events for companies etc. The only thing is parking. Parking can be tough because it is by residential area as well as business. But that should be nothing new if you live in the city. Check this place out if you have events. I had a good time working the event for Remy and I think for the most part all the guest did as well. read more

Dogpatch Studios team ROCKS! Thank you to Terry and especially Patrick...your team is great!! We had a media blogger event here a couple months ago and it went very smoothly. There are 3 floors to this studio. Floor 1 is a cement warehouse style floor (we used for storage and uncrating large equipment). Floor 2 has wooden floor and one wall of windows - allowing for partial lighted setting (we blocked out light since we had demos w/digital presentations). Floor 3 is the swankiest setting - sunroom style loft w/lots of ambient light (which we blocked out since we had keynote presentations and filming going on there). The security staff is fantastic (set up crew came and went easily but outside traffic was held at bay). The onsite support team was also great...and Patrick even got me a latte when he went to get his own (THANK YOU!!!). Overall we had a successful media event! We will definitely be back for other local event needs. read more

Working with Terry and Patrick was fantastic. We are so lucky we found this place for our company's offsite meeting. We used it for 3 days and everything was extremely easy. The venue is gorgeous and can be turned really into anything you'd like. We wanted a warehouse feel, high ceilings, and a big open space for smaller groups to break out into -- we found it at Dogpatch. This is a perfect venue for pretty much any event you can possibly think of. I hosted a 1 day seminar at Dogpatch Studios for my company. Terry and Patrick did an excellent job going above and beyond what was expected in all aspects of the event. From helping me set up and also making sure I had everything I needed. Patrick even ran to out at 8am to Office Depot to find a wireless clicker for the presentations. This is a top notch venue at an excellent location! Make sure you let people know that there is a train stop just 1 block away. Can't wait to come back here for our next event! read more

Cool views from the top floor- not elegant but industrial chic the acoustics were BAD as in not good though. also, the room during our meal was way too dark. So conversations were difficult at the winemaker's dinner we attended When they rent it for venues, they should make some effort to solve these issue read more

We had our wedding reception here in this beautiful space. I love the space, but working with Terry and his staff was not pleasant. I felt that they were gouging us every step of the way to get more money from us. Thankfully we had wonderful caterers who helped mitigate the negative vibe from Dogpatch. Our dj also had worked at Dogpatch before and didn't like some of the restrictions on decibel levels. Our caterers also had negative feelings about some of the anal rules that Dogpatch enforces - like they will only accept deliveries from certain companies etc. From the outside and for guests - this can be a very impressive party venue. But as the host - working with them was VERY bad. Think carefully if you want the stress of dealing with these people - especially if you are getting married and trying to create something special for one of the most important days of your life. Dogpatch staff will leave a bad taste in your mouth - which of course is not how you want to feel. 2 years later, I feel a little better about it, and have forgotten some of the details, but that is only because time has passed. read more

recently i hosted a tennis tournament party at dogpatch studios. we had roughly 175 people attend for an evening of cocktails, food, and music. after the party, i literally had about 20 folks come up to me and tell me how much they enjoyed the venue. here is a summary of the feedback: - conveniently located, easy to get to from the freeway, close to the city (where the majority of the tennis players live) - plenty of parking, most walked less than 2 blocks after finding a space - very open, raw, cool industrial-type feel which includes great amenities - bathrooms on the main floor, easy accessibility to the kitchen (something our caterer appreciated), open balcony that overlooks the main space (this is where we were able to do our announcements and put our dj) the space just worked exceptionally well for our group. terry, the owner, was great to work with as well: - he coordinated with both the table rental company and lighting company to stage the space, which was absolutely brillant (make sure to use terry's lighting partner if you need this...i literally got choked up when i saw the final product) - he allowed me to make a number of drop offs leading up to the event (it's very easy to load and unload equipment with their space configuration) - was always accessible by phone, and during the event...it felt like he wanted it to be a success just as much as we did - accommodated our list minute requests with no hesitation (he let us use some extra tables and chairs that he has on hand...this saved my butt) i can confidently say that we wouldn't of done any better using another space. dogpatch has it all - it's a unique venue with great amenities, and an owner that wants your event to be a success. you can't go wrong. thank you very much, terry. read more

Plenty of space, the most incredible north window I've ever seen (in addition to other studio configurations if you don't want natural light), and it's an easy group of people to work with. The third floor daylight studio has a great view and the bamboo floor adds to the elegance. The huge first floor studio is perfect for large events. I held my second event at Dogpatch in less than 12 months. The rawness of the studios allows you to create the set up that you need. We had about 90 people in total and there was plenty of room. My son is a fashion designer and is planning his launch at Dogpatch Studios. At first glance, my son was sure this is where he wanted to hold his launch party. We met Terry and could instantly feel his passion for what he does and the work of other artists. Not only that, the space is amazing. Terry is very responsive and very helping when it comes to working with vendors for our event. We have yet to hold our event, but so far I am impressed and know that this will be a success.
