First things first -- the owner is awesome. We didn't have a reservation on a Friday and called right when they opened. She barely squeezed us in, and honestly, she's just a great person -- welcoming, accommodating, and genuinely kind. Now for the food: It was good, but it didn't leave me yearning to come back. I had the escargot appetizer, which was tasty and cheesy. For my main, I ordered the steak. A tip if you're in Paris: medium rare here often translates to rare. It was good quality, just not quite my thing. The missus had the scallops, which were plentiful and cooked well, but again, nothing particularly memorable. The vibe: This place must be trending somewhere because it was packed -- elbow-to-elbow. Great news for the owner, and it definitely added some lively energy to the experience. Perfect small restaurant ~30 seats. Took our jackets and we sat down for one of the best meals of the trip. Our table had steak, scallops, and veal with a beautiful bottle of wine. Great time to be had at CG! So many factors weighed into this but I will try ever so hard to describe this beautiful journey so you don't miss out. First of all, don't be shy and ask them to seat you by the window. They're the best seats in the house! Mine even had an outlet so I was able to charge my phone. Very modern and romantic decor and slightly more upscale than your typical Parisian bistro too. As soon as we entered, we were greeted warmly and asked if we wanted to have our coats hung up. The hospitality continued as the owner then appeared and made sure all our needs were met as she doubled as our helpful and insightful server. As starters, we shared the mushroom soup and the escargots. The soup was seasoned perfectly and the single scallop that was placed ever so delicately in the soup had set the tone for the caliber of scallops I was going to receive as my entree. It was truly amazing! Every single piece of bread in our basket was used to sop up that yummy goodness. As for the escargots, please reference my pics! Have you ever seen such a bountiful harvest of snails in one appetizer? Geez Louise! To top it off, they ingeniously mixed it with shiitake mushrooms. It was heavenly :P At the suggestion of the owner, she recommended the scallops entree which was served in a creamy type sauce. Now I normally steer clear of heavy cream sauces but since it was the house specialty, I went full guns ahead and there were no regrets. Highly recommended if you're on the fence. I didn't try the other entree, the veal kidneys (yikes!) but if you're into that sort of thing, it definitely didn't disappoint. Just make sure you know exactly what it is before you order it as it isn't your garden variety beef. If you are well versed in other animal parts, then you will really enjoy this dish. All in all, a must-go place if you are in the area and they do take reservations via the fork app (LaFourchette) for us non-French speakers. Win win! read more

Up front, my perspective is that of an American foodie (from Philadelphia, specifically) visiting Paris on a lark. Everything about this place, especially considering how disappointing everything around it was, exceeded expectations. It was a welcome, wonderful night of great food, great service, and cozy but classy ambiance. If you are near the Arc de Triumph, skip the obvious places. Call for a reservation, you won't regret it. I had this restaurant on our itinerary to visit when we were in Paris last May & we were very pleased. It's on a relatively quiet little street (short walk from the Arc de triomphe) and is a smaller place. We had reservations (I highly recommend reservations) and sat in a romantic table for two by the front window. There was a huge table of Americans also dining next to us (see, it's not just me that likes this place- but make no mistake this is not a touristy spot everyone else were bonafide Frenchies). The scallops? Divine. We all know scallops are touch and go (the dreaded rubbery scallop, ugh)The mullet- unique. The white wine I let my server recommend? Superb. Very good French restaurant. It's a small place so make reservations. The food was very good and the staff was very attentive. 1st: foie gras on toast, the foie gras was very good. The toast has a spread that was a little sweet. I prefer savory foods. 2nd: prawns, these we're perfectly cooked, really moist and tender. 3rd: roasted pork rib on polenta with reduction sauce. The pork was cooked very well, the sauce was great. The polenta was a little overpowering with the strong taste of cheese. 4th: probably the best part of the meal! Creme brûlée with cognac poached peach. This was damn good, almost licked my plate. The tartness of the peach balanced so well with the sweetness of the creme brûlée. The peach also had the perfect texture and the cognac sauce was great. They also had nice wines. If it wasn't for the sweet toast and cheesy polenta, I would've given 5 stars. read more

My wife and I spent the Christmas/New Years Holiday in Paris. We found Chez Gabrielle through the Yelp app. It was very close to our hotel in the Arc De Triomphe area off of Rue De Carnot. They accommodated us, despite not having reservations, which by the way, is VERY difficult in Paris as most places do not. We both ordered fish and the food was magnificent. Would've been 5 star across the board if they scallops were sweeter or if the chef had seared the scallops before baking it in the creme sauce. Was recommended to go here by my husband's coworker's girlfriend =) My husband and I ate dinner here on our last night in Paris. Very small restaurant, so make sure to make a reservation. I used "La Forchette" while we were there to make reservations and check restaurant reviews. Based on YELP reviews, we ordered the scallops dish and the beef. Both were excellent, but the cut of the beef was a little thick for me. For appetizers, we got tuna tartare and mushroom soup; both delicious. We were definitely full, as they also give you a side of potatoes without asking. Luckily, I saved room for dessert and we ordered the poached peach with creme brulee. I really wish Yelp gave you the option to award half-stars. It may seem like splitting hairs to some, but there really is a difference between 4 and 5 stars, and many restaurants for me fall within this space. The meal I had at Chez Gabrielle was near perfect, but I reserve at least half a star for the overall ambience. Maybe it's personal preference, but when we arrived I felt as if we were sitting in a library, located inside a monastery, situated underground. It was that quiet. I almost felt like the other patrons were intentionally whispering because there was an unspoken rule about not making noise. I immediately noticed the lack of background music, and I couldn't help but feel that a subdued jazz or classical track would've added a much needed something. Thankfully, as more tables filled up, the atmosphere livened up significantly and I was able to relax more and fully enjoy my meal, which was superb. Between my husband and me we had the prix fixe menu of the foie gras, scallops and peach dessert, as well as the escargot and sea bass. Every dish was so well-composed, with very delicate and refined flavors. The foie gras was unctuous and rich but the accompanying sweet sauce was the perfect foil to the fatty liver and buttery toast that was under it. The escargot in mushroom sauce was silky smooth and sublime, the textures of the snails and mushrooms played perfectly with each other. The signature scallops had a slightly fruity taste I'd never experienced before. My sea bass was just right, flaky and moist and placed atop a bed of what I think was diced chestnut and some other kind of starch. It was all surrounded by a moat of mushroomy foam. I loved how the flavors of the sea and of the forest married so well together. And of course, the creme brulee with poached peach put the perfect finishing touch on our meal. Service was friendly and attentive. We saw three parties being turned away after the place filled up - it's a small space so reservations are a must. read more

At first it was very quiet and were were one of the only tables. However as the night went on more people arrived. For appetizers we got foie gras and tartare. I absolutely loved my scallop dish! Everything was epically amazing. I started with the cauliflowe soup with shellfish. I don't like muscles and clams and I ate EVERYTHING!! It was epic soup. For my main I had the veal medallions. Everything was very heavy with lots of cream and butter but it was all superbly executed. The filet was juicy, a perfect medium rare and the potatoes that accompanied the dish were to die for. The scallops with the roe still intact were sweet and soft. The foie gras portion was very generous and the asparagus soup was creamy but delicate. My least favorite dishes were the sweet breads that were just too plain and the sea bass which was just not done to my liking. At the suggestion of some of my colleagues from work my wife and I went to Chez Gabrielle the other weekend and had a very pleasant experience. The hostess speaks some English, so we were able to communicate easily with her, and the menu had both French and English text. For starter, we had a langoustine and vegetable dish, which was quite tasty. For dinner I had a seabass dish, with mushroom stuffing, which was excellent, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her veal kidney with potatoes au gratin. The hostess suggested a pleasant chardonnay which we enjoyed with our meal. Dessert was a raspberry sauce with marscapone cream which was also excellent. We found this little place while wandering in the neighborhood around our hotel (renaissance arc de triomphe) and thought the menu in the window looked appealing and the prices good. This small space is cozy and comfortable, and was full on the Wednesday night we dined here. Lovely hostess and waitress speak good English and were equally welcoming to the mix of tourists and locals filling the place. The wine list offers a good selection, we got a wonderful bottle for under 30 euro. They have terrific fixed priced dinner plans but we ordered from the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed everything. Sea bass tartare and the apple and potato appetizers were excellent, but the cauliflower soup with crawfish was the standout. For mains, the Parmesan cream sauced steak is amazing, accompanied by the most heavenly potatoes dauphinoise. Veal with polenta was excellent too. All the desserts were terrific, we each thought our order was the best! Creme brûlée with poached pear, pear with brioche pain Perdu and caramel sauce, and chocolate cake w choc sorbet. Plus a dish of truffles with the bill. All this with warm unhurried service for 160 euro for the three of us! In addition to being a superb meal, this was a great value.
