I'm giving this place a solid three stars because the food feels inconsistent. I've tried their duck a few times. Some days it's good, other days it's just okay. I wish it were meatier, sometimes it feels a bit thin. It's not bad, just not consistently great. The chow mein and stir-fried noodles are okay, but they always feel like something is missing. Same with the beef soup I tried, it wasn't as rich or "beefy" as I expected. Overall, it's not terrible. It's decent Chinese food, especially if you're in the area and craving something quick. But, few places were open this late that serve fish porridge after a very late doctor visit. Boy was I glad that we ended up finally trying out this place! I was a little weary about ordering at closing vis door dash because I didn't know if we would be getting fresh food. Most places tend to give old food. But, the duck was absolutely phenomenal! We usually go to the one in Millbrae but this was a good half way spot to meet a friend for dinner. The service is typical for a Chinese restaurant so don't be offended. We just ordered beef and tofu over rice and a 3 item bbq combo. Beef and tofu over rice 3/5: The beef was good and the tofu was soft but the portion was smaller than Millbrae's. 3 item bbq over rice 3/5: The pieces seemed a bit bony but overall it was all right. Currently sitting as I write this. Wonderful food. Huge portions. Fast service. Although, one thing I will say is that we wish that we had a more of an attentive server. We had drank a lot of our water because it's was hot outside. We came in parched. We wish that the server came back around checked up on us to see if we needed anything and offered to refill our waters. A side from that we had wish they had a better variety of drinks. (They do not offer smoothies or boba tea beverages) The choices were very limited so we just stuck with water and hot tea. In all, the food was very delicious and such a huge portion. Been ordering deliveries from them, usually their Two Items BBQ over Rice plates - favorites are their Roast Duck and BBQ Pork. Did try some of their other dishes eg Roast Pork with Oyster Pot but it didn't hit the spot for me. Portion is huge, great value. Occasionally I do get very boney almost no meat portion when I ordered their Roast Duck but most of the time is good, so I will still order from them (might try some other dishes on their menu eventually) but probably stick with their BBQ items. read more

Ordered the pan-fried house noodles and was shocked by the cheap, low-quality ingredients. Just look at the squid with full of tiny tentacles that make it look like scraps. Completely disappointed. SASHIMI CHICKEN!! I started buying soy sauce chicken from here since it's so close to my house. Usually, it's good and everything is fine, so that's why I go back. Recently, the last two times I bought my chicken from Cheung Hing, it is RAW. Not a little raw. SUPER RAW. I attached photos. They are more than half raw and still bloody. After the first time, I thought maybe they were just having an off day. But this second time, the chicken was even more raw. I had to microwave it repeatedly in order for it to be consumable for my family. My concern is that they are serving salmonella chicken. They might also be using the same knife to butcher these raw chicken, and if that's the case, I would be careful if you decide to order other meats from here. read more

After my visit 7 years ago I'm coming back to Cheung Hing for lunch today as I still live in SSF and I'm craving for HK style BBQ meat over rice. We didn't plan to come here, but on a Saturday lunch Hing Lung next door was packed and Cheung Hing next door was quiet and empty, to save time, we settled in here. The menu posted outside has no price, but we were pleasantly surprised that the prices are reasonable. The interior was simple. There's a BBQ counter upon entry. The tables felt a little sticky. Service was quiet and not proactive, but not hard to get if you need something. After we finished, table and dirty plates were cleaned up quite quickly. Bbq rice plate is 13.99, not bad. Beef brisket Lo mein is also 13.99, good portions. They also give you an egg drop soup complementary but it's quite watery. I got smoked pan fry frog and it was quite tasty. This is my go to lunch spot in South San Francisco on Grand Ave. Their 3 item barbecue combo is absolutely amazing if you get duck, roasted pork/pork rib, and soy sauce chicken. Ask for their ginger sauce. I also always order their salt and pepper fried pork chop over rice, which is excellent. I always finish the plate. Lastly, their beef stew or curry beef stew over rice transports you to Kowloon. You feel like you're at a small hole in the wall in Mong Kok, eating right before you go shopping at the night market. The food is so authentic. It seems like it's a family business and the servers are very nice. The lady kept arguing with me that I didn't order the noodles. Thank goodness I did it through Yelp (which directed me to Grubhub). Busy busy area so good luck finding a street parking during lunch time! Their meters use the parkmobile app so luckily I already have it for MN. Food was mediocre. The potato leaf veggie was really salty. They did have a promo where you can get lobster e mein for $3, but I'm not sure how you can qualify for the promo. I enjoyed the beef fillet with assorted mushrooms and would definitely recommend this dish. The beef and mushrooms were all very flavorful, and not overcooked. The young zhou fried rice I would probably pass on. We've ordered this at other restaurants and it seems like this one is super bland in comparison to what we've had before. At the end of our meal, another server brought us two bowls of red bean dessert which I appreciated. I didn't think they'd actually offer traditional dessert with our meal so it was a nice surprise. Overall, I'd come and eat here again although a few of the dishes were misses. Will have to just order other dishes next time. Braised Tofu is the star at Cheung Hing. Silky tofu is enclosed in a fried skin. It's so much better than Grand Palace's tofu or Hing Lung (both next door). My favorite is the Braised Fish Pot - which has fried fish fillet, braised tofu, cloves of garlic and shitake mushroom in a hot clay pot. Yum! Portion is huge. Chow fun (chicken and vegetable, wet style) is good too, portion enough for 2. Chicken slices, bak choy, carrots, mushrooms. BBQ meats are better at lunch than dinner, as it's usually made in the morning. Lunch comes with a bowl of free soup per person. read more

We ordered Crispy roast pork, roast duck, shrimp fried rice, and chicken chow fun; everybody loved all the dishes but the definite winner is the roast duck. The people that work their are pretty friendly and the restaurant is modern and decent sized. They have more than one location throughout the Bay Area. I honestly don't have anything bad to say. One full roast duck might be too much food for some people so I recommend trying the roast duck over rice dishes. read more

Good Authentic Chinese Food [South San Francisco CA] It was Memorial Day and I had a couple of places in mind to have lunch before heading home after a weekend in Monterey. Unfortunately, they were closed due to the holiday. We then proceeded to just look for any restaurant that was open as our tummies were starting to grumble and call for food. LoL We were already in South City (SF) and this Chinese restaurant was nearby... plus they were open! We stepped inside and an employee showed us to a table in their spacious dining room. I was a little concerned about the quality of food as there was not many people eating, in fact, we were the only ones there but the taste of food was fine. We could sit anywhere we wanted to. Perhaps not many knew that they were open on a holiday. They had rice plates available all day but we opted to go a la carte with their BBQ Pork Fried Rice and Salt and Pepper Pork Chops (we were going to order the same rice plates anyhow). Not sure why only 3-Stars for this place but we both enjoyed our lunch here. Service was great and server was friendly. One of the few Chinese BBQ that opened to 9pm . My girlfriend recommended this establishment, she frequent this restaurant often. My girlfriend phoned in ahead for me to pick up . Parking here is a little difficult to find but not impossible. We placed an order for roast duck , so juicy and delicious aroma . Steamed chicken with ginger oil sauce, chicken is moist and meaty. Check your bill for dine-in! They automatically include a 15% tip on your receipt without telling you and then also give you the slip to sign with the additional tip line left blank -- how many people have they tricked doing this?! I didn't check my receipt carefully and we ordered a lot of expensive dishes so I didn't realize this until after I left the restaurant. Their service was excellent and they were very proactive about changing our plates for clean ones all the time. We also got plenty of napkins whenever they noticed we were using up our current ones! At most Chinese restaurants, they don't care about your piling your bones up on your current plate and you're running out of clean space on your 1 ply napkin! But I think them sneaking in the auto tip is very deceitful -- if they hadn't done that, I would've given them 5 stars because we really enjoyed the food here. Another thing you should be aware of is their pricing. They have another location in Millbrae and while the menu looks almost the same, they have notable price differences for the same dish: Chicken and pig stomach with wasabi is $22.95 here verses $19.95 in Millbrae -- chicken is good, pig stomach was plain Deep fried while flounder is $18.95 here verses $17.95 in Millbrae -- huge fish!
