What a prized gem to stop upon once we crossed into Alabama. The line was to the door of this…read morecafeteria style cafe which is typically a good indicator of a tasty meal. We noticed some folks sitting on the bench by the line and learned they were waiting for "dressing" which they recommended we try. We ordered two ribs plates and one baked chicken plate, dressing, collards, yams, and butter beans. Since they had sold out of cornbread we defaulted to a white dinner roll. Then onto the homemade lemonade and sweet tea. Service was great! Authentic and warm to the first time customers, they obviously had regulars who were greeted lovingly by name. All the line servers answered my questions and patiently waited for our selections. We even met "Little Ed" son of the restaurant's namesake, who was so kind! The food delivered nicely spiced ribs, tender, fall-off-the-bone baked chicken and tender collard greens. The prized jewel of Ed's for us was the dressing - wow, just delicious! I mixed mine up with the butter beans for a small protein twist. We were so satisfied that we brought home the yams for a treat later. Summary: The people are friendly and the food is the definition of comfort. Stop by for the experience and don't forget to close the bathroom hallway door- lol, a nod to our youngest son aka rule follower.

They check on us now and then letting us know how long the food will take since they are short on staff and have a couple of large parties before us. We ordered their full rib in dry and the sweet potato brisket waffles. The reason why I don't give them a 5 stars is because their meat seems to be a bit too dry. The brisket on my waffle have to add a lot of maples in order to make them moisture, the good thing about the meal is the meat portion are very generous and flavorful. The town itself is very interesting as well so hope sometime in future I'll get to visit again

She did not tell me there was an up-charge for a side of ranch for my fries which I probably would not have asked for since, as you can see from my small plate I ate only about 5 fries. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The bathrooms were not very clean and our table was a bit dirty. We used sanitized napkins and they were dirty after wiping our table. The food was really good which is why I gave it 4 stars. The meat was tender and very tasty. The fries were very good as well. This place could be a five star but due the above mentioned issues with cleanliness and up charge, I could not bring myself to a five star review.

Love the interior, the diner aesthetics, old school retro style with a bus connected to the interior with additional seating like a real diner. I had to start with the Sweet Tea Lager that is brewed by a nearby brewery, Cannon Brew. Not sure I tasted sweet tea however, it was a decent beer that paired well with the meal. We ordered the following: CONGLOMERATION PLATTER - Sliced pork, beef and ribs. I changed the beef for brisket and it was a great decision. Would've loved this platter if it was hot. It came with bbq onions and pickles, a side of baked beans and toasted bread and butter, collard greens with pepper sauce. BUTTERMILK FRIED CHICKEN FINGERS - this was good according to my bf. They were pretty big, served with honey mustard, a side salad. 4 stars because the food was not hot however, everything else was good. It's a cute country diner with a pretty extensive bbq and country food menu.

But what I do know is that this was excellent. The Dixon family has gone in and done a huge overhaul on the place. The kitchen has been totally updated and the dining area has been also. Everything is clean and well functioning. You go to the counter and order and then go find a table. The place is small and the number of tables is limited. Once your order is ready they bring it out to you. You get a cup and there is tea and a fountain drink machine for you to fill up your glass. The bbq was amazing. Very tender and flavorful. I ordered a medium bbq plate and it was more than I could eat. I love the chopped bbq. You can also get sliced and chipped. I believe I heard them say the same man that used to do the cooking of the meat, is still the one doing it. They also have clearview bbq sauce and the Dixon family yellow jacket sauce. Both are excellent. We got to try the two pies. One was pecan and the other was a peanut butter pie (though I think it has a different name). Of the two, my friend and I felt the peanut butter one was the best of that kind we had ever had. They are open now and the wait is over. Run right over. You will be so glad you did. Well done Dixon family. Well done e.
