Sometimes the barista is very kind and respectful but other times (like today) the barista on duty seems to hate everyone and everything. I don't like feeling punished for being friendly, tipping well, and doing nothing wrong except choosing to get coffee here instead of the dozens of other cafes in the area. It's off putting to be greeted with a scowl and the barista glaring constantly as they take my order. Everyone has bad days at work but I hate playing barista roulette when I come here. This one was done nearly perfectly. It's a black sesame orange blossom latte topped with a coconut and cream cold foam. The cold foam was great, light, creamy, and properly sweetened but honestly, I would've loved the latte even without it. The balance of black sesame is excellent. You can actually taste it, while the orange blossom complements ut well. Definitely coming back here. The service was great too. I got to chat with two of the workers for a while about coffee, and they were both incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. My only complaint is that in comparison to other coffee shops the space is very limited. There is a bit of bar style seating against the wall inside and a few chairs in the middle but no tables. Outside you do have I believe four small circle tables with two chairs at each.

As this is located on the south corner of the building, we parked on the street - Glissman road and walked down. The signage leaves room for improvement as we were a bit confused to where it was. Once found, they have a couple tables outside with chairs, inside is beautiful decorated and I loved the Turkish lamp with multiple lamps. There is low counter seating and a long lounger couch that can sit 4-5 peeps depending on how cozy you wanna get. There is a quaint shop with various items along with a back room that has interactive drawing supplies and a seed bomb you can make. Ended up going with the Jade Lion matcha which was amazing, not too sweet and the match flavor was good. My friend got the Pretoria Mist and she said it was equally delightful. The glasses were nice and tall and loved the glass straws they provided. The peeps next to us got the White Witch Chai and they seemed to know the lady working and asked where the name came from. She responded that it's the type of chai a person similar to her (her words, not mine, a white lady) would assume a chai tea is like. The menu includes your typical coffee shop fares like baked goods (yummy) and coffee / tea drinks. Taste wise, the baked goods are on point. They are locally made and fresh every time I've visited. The coffee however is alright. I'm not sure whether it's the beans or the machine, but it tastes a little... unremarkable, I guess? The first one I ever ordered at Afuga was so watered down I threw it in the trash. I assumed the barista at the time did a poor job and tried it again a few months later. The second time was fine, and so was the third. Yet, even though my drinks are now prepared adequately, they are still kinda bland? These beans have no soul, maybe? I'm not one hundred percent sure what it is but it's still good enough for me to come back, for what it's worth. But not good enough to me to stay it's one of my Austin top 10.

The café is in a great location directly across from Mueller Lake Park, with outdoor seating that's perfect for people watching while enjoying your drink. Inside, there's comfortable seating with free Wi-Fi, plus an adjacent toddler play area that makes it welcoming for families. Their menu offers a nice selection of coffee, teas, sparkling waters, and fresh baked goods. The employee who helped me was a little shy but very friendly. It was clear he was still in training, and he handled everything with care and kindness. What makes Empowered Café truly special is its mission. This inclusive coffee shop provides meaningful employment and job skills training for adults with Down syndrome and other neurodiverse conditions. Supporting a business that's making this kind of impact makes every purchase feel even more worthwhile. If you stop by, bring a smile and a little patience. Wish they had lemonade for a good Arnold Palmer Staff was friendly, service was quick. Read a lot of reviews about the lack of parking and didn't drive. But there were a few spots outside. I only wish so many people didn't smoke cigarettes outside, while being seated and working there - it was suffocating and made it difficult for me to sit and work. I'd have definitely stayed longer and ordered more food if it weren't for the smokers there :(
