This beautiful farm was once the Golden Lamb Buttery, it closed about 5 years ago after 55 years as a family-run restaurant. Somehow I never managed to get there and have been kicking myself ever since. I got a second chance when it recently reopened as Chef's Table at Little Dipper Farm. We had a 4pm reservation so that we could get home in time for the Kentucky Derby and we were the only people in the restaurant. A beautiful day, they had the back door open to the view of the fields and pond, with a woodfire crackling away in the dining room. We took the advice of other reviewers and started with the bread (a crackery lavash) and an amazing homemade butter with the texture of sour cream. Next up, potatoes roasted in duck fat - so good. A couple of salads sounded interesting so we each had one, and split the black bass. My only regret is being too full to try the blueberry buckle. A good reason to go back. The wine & beer lists are small but well chosen. The service couldn't have been any warmer or more personal. Just a wonderful experience from start to finish.

Took a little road trip down from Boston to check out the restaurant, so happy we did! Food was really tasty and fresh, cocktails were wonderfully balanced, and the scenery was idyllic. It truly was seed-to-table: you could taste it in each of the dishes. Well worth the drive and I can't wait for the next meal there! Also, we had a large group and the staff was super accommodating and parking was a breeze. Highly recommended for groups.

Bread and butter. Hand made on site.

After all, they make their own 16% premium ice cream in dozens of flavors. You'll see a long narrow building with an ordering window and a few menu boards advertising the flavors and serving options (cups, cones, sundaes, frappes, floats, and cakes). On the right side of the building is a country store selling pre-packaged beef, pork, dairy, groceries, and clothing. We did see a pretty good sale on $10 sweatpants! But on this rainy day we stopped for ice cream and picked up two cones for under $10. My wife went with Cricket Crunch (Vanilla ice cream with mint cookies and chocolate chips) and I went with Ayrshire Chip (Strawberry ice cream with chocolate chips). We both thought the ice cream was extraordinary, with a creamy texture, excellent flavors, and yummy chocolate chips. There isn't any seating inside, save for a bench, but there is plenty outside under a tent. Today was raining, so the tent seating was drenched, and we had our cones in the car. The rainy weather and muddy grounds also discouraged us from walking over to the barns to see the animals, which surely are a big hit with visiting children. So, if you' and your loved ones are ice cream nerds like we are, head on over to Connecticut's Quiet Corner and enjoy a sweet experience.

The bench seating was very comfortable, though some of the tabletops were pretty tall and all wood, so maybe not the easiest to sit at for a while. The restaurant has an extensive menu, but when I saw the pitmaster section I knew I had to try some of that. As an appetizer there were potato skins with pulled pork. Wow, these are not the wizened, come from a frozen box, potato skins. These were large, brimming with flavor and cheese. From the pit was brisket and ribs. Each came with corn bread, one with fries, the other with mac and cheese. Corn bread, so good, nice grainy texture, not a baked sugar slurry like you can find elsewhere, up here in the north. The brisket is super tender, doesn't need much sauce because it's packing all that natural and smoke flavor. The ribs are not dainty. You're going to be getting in here with your hands, like proper ribs eating. I'm so unused to that, and it resulted in me bringing half the rack home because a half rack was so filling. The edges of the ribs were dry, but all the interior was pull apart tender and delectable. Again, only needing a touch of their homemade sauce. The fries were robust but still crispy and seasoned well. The mac was the only miss for me. Too toothsome and not much flavor. Because they also do wood fired pizza, I got a cheese with ricotta to go. I'm not sure I ever need their pizza again. The crust was thin but not very crispy except on the cornicione, which had a lot of herbs sprinkled on it. The sauce disappeared, flavor wise, and so did the cheese blend. Side notes - I know everything has gotten crazy expensive, but the prices here took me aback. $16 for three pieces of bacon? Also, the 10% military discount was only applied to my ribs, but nothing else, so I'm happy they have one but it may only be applied to your food and non alcoholic drinks on Tuesdays and Fridays during their specific windows.

Sometimes you end up at the 99 Restaurant & that's okay. On this particular occasion, it was…read moreexactly what my friend & I needed. We were coming off a tough evening, so the friendliness we were greeted with from the door to the table was SO appreciated. Our server, Blake, was cheerful, funny, & attentive. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. He definitely has innate service-industry skills that not everyone is blessed with. Blake - You're the man. I ordered the bacon & cheese burger with a gluten-free bun. The menu clearly labeled which items could be altered to accommodate gluten sensitivities, which was very helpful. That being said, the options for sides were limited (either mashed potatoes or steamed broccoli). I went with the mashed potatoes & was glad I did. My meal wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was good enough & it was gluten-free, so it hit the spot. My friend ordered a fresh fruit sangria (I took a sip & it was tasty) & her absolute favorite - the crispy honey mustard chicken salad. She asked for extra dressing, & Blake did NOT disappoint her. She said it was great, per usual. When we received the bill there was a QR code on it, making it wicked easy to pay & get going. On our way out to our bikes, Blake chased us down because my friend had forgotten her phone at the table. So in conclusion: sometimes a reliable, chain restaurant meal is exactly what you need to turn your tough evening into a good evening, & that's what happened at the 99 Restaurant on Saturday. Did I mention that Blake was the bees' knees?
