Sometimes you end up at the 99 Restaurant & that's okay. On this particular occasion, it was exactly what my friend & I needed. We were coming off a tough evening, so the friendliness we were greeted with from the door to the table was SO appreciated. Our server, Blake, was cheerful, funny, & attentive. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. He definitely has innate service-industry skills that not everyone is blessed with. Blake - You're the man. I ordered the bacon & cheese burger with a gluten-free bun. The menu clearly labeled which items could be altered to accommodate gluten sensitivities, which was very helpful. That being said, the options for sides were limited (either mashed potatoes or steamed broccoli). I went with the mashed potatoes & was glad I did. My meal wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was good enough & it was gluten-free, so it hit the spot. My friend ordered a fresh fruit sangria (I took a sip & it was tasty) & her absolute favorite - the crispy honey mustard chicken salad. She asked for extra dressing, & Blake did NOT disappoint her. She said it was great, per usual. When we received the bill there was a QR code on it, making it wicked easy to pay & get going. On our way out to our bikes, Blake chased us down because my friend had forgotten her phone at the table. Country fried chicken was bland and greasy, the mashed potatoes wasted like they were mixed with water instead of milk or broth, and the gravy tasted like "refrigerator air" like when something has been uncovered in the fridge and tastes like the fridge. So then he tried it again, it was two pieces , he was happy, today's few weeks later, one large badly cooked piece! Make up your mind. I got tips which I used to love , second time in a few months, again, not charred and tough, sent them back for more not charred and tough. The shrimp batter on the tiny shrimp was gooey. Not a good experience for big money. Every bartender there in Killingly is wonderful, not their fault the food is gross. Done and I have points to use! Hubby and I had never been to a 99 Restaurants before and decided to give them a try while on a New England road trip. We were seated immediately and quickly greeted by our server. We both wanted chicken tenders and figured it was a safe choice. He ordered the chicken tender meal with double French fries as his two sides. I ordered the appetizer chicken tenders without sides. I thought the popcorn instead of bread was a cool idea. The popcorn itself was good, buttery and good salt level. The chicken tenders came out within 10 minutes. Hubby's tenders were tossed in Buffalo sauce and were still crispy. The French fries were tasty, great dipped in Buffalo sauce. I ordered my tenders plain, not tossed in sauce. They were very crispy, almost too crispy. Also, some of the tenders were dry. The blue cheese, honey mustard and Buffalo sauce were all very tasty. Fast, friendly service and decent chicken tenders. It was the first time my daughter took her son out to a restaurant and she was scared. You know the whole screaming baby nightmare, but it was great. The food was great. The servings were good and perfectly cooked. I was glad to see quite a few gluten free options. I'm not gluten intolerant but I have loved ones who are. Used to love this place. Now that every entrée is $15, never going again. We used to be able to get almost all entree's we liked at a price of $9.99. Not to mention, when we have ordered online recently, they have missed an item or have gotten an item wrong, which can be a big deal when you're ordering for five people and already paying $60+ for the whole meal. On June 22, my husband and I went to Killingly, Connecticut Ninety Nine restaurant. The moment we walked in I commented how it was absolutely freezing it felt. My husband kindly went back out to the car and got my sweater - mind you it was about 80 outside and very humid. When we went in, it was probably about 62° and I mentioned how cold it was to the waiter. I looked around at the other customers who were also freezing and rubbing their arms. The waiter was very friendly, and took our order. The food took a while to come. It was hot and it was good and we like going to Ninety Nine restaurant. Because it was so cold in the restaurant it made my dining experience unpleasant. Also, The waiter needs to be more attentive. He was at other tables talking for a long time and it was difficult to get him to come back. He was just chit chatting while they were eating. Finally, when we were finished eating and I had my card out he came over and he stood with his handheld machine and hovered over me while I had to plug-in the tip. I was mad because he did that but also because the state Connecticut tax is included in the total bill and when the suggested 20% tip comes up, it Includes the state tax and it should not be part of the tip able amount. It does this at every restaurant. I felt pressured to hit that 20% because he was looking the whole time when I felt I had to make that the selection. I would have preferred time to calculate my own tip on food and service versus including the state tax. I would have preferred if he had left the device or left a paper bill on my table and I could have taken my time to submit what I wanted to for a tip based on his service and the food by itself and not the food and tax cost. Why should we tip on tax???? When I got home, I figured out that if I add up the cost of food and multiply just that without the tax at 20% that is what the 15% tip would be on the total bill including tax. I would tip 20% on that for exceptional service and 25% for superb service. We often over tip. I don't have any issue if that is deserved. The reason I'm leaving three stars and this review is because 1) the restaurant was way too cold, and I remember that from last summer, too 2) the waiter should've been attentive to all tables instead of standing around talking and 3) the fact that I had to pay while he hovered over me while I was selecting a tip to add feeling forced into hitting the 20% tip thereby over tipping on service that was mediocre at best. Please raise the A/C temp, tell the waiter staff to be more attentive while still friendly and leave the device while the customer decides the tip amount. Thank you. read more

The food was excellent, and the place was clean and comfortable. Our waitress, Anna, was really friendly and helped make our experience as good as it was. I think some of the negative comments on here are totally ignorant, we are in the middle of a staffing shortage in the restaurant industry so service can't be as quick as it was years ago. This Restaurant has Ninety Nine problems and originality is one! If you want a quick sit down place to have a decent burger or maybe a steak then this T.G.I Friday's look alike is the place for you! Going to this restaurant on a friday night will put you in the waiting room as you wait for a table. Ironically, the place with the least interesting stuff on the wall, is the waiting area. With bland photos of the local High school teams and a small TV, waiting for a table for 30 minutes could be quite the chore. The service was pretty good but when it comes to service I always think it's just luck if you have a lazy waiter/waitress or not. Our waitress was kind, suggestive with orders and kept a happy smile. The food is what you come to expect from a chain restaurant. Burgers, Steak, Chicken, Fish, etc. None of the food impressed me but again, it's not really supposed to. I ordered the regular cheese burger, medium rare with an order of appetizer nacho's. The nacho serving is huge and is acceptable for two or more people. The hamburger itself is a generic hamburger served over french fries. The burger was decent, but nothing to really separate from any other food chain. While Ninety Nine is a good solution for the late night hunger or the quick fix, it really doesn't go past that. We arrived at the 99 Restaurant with a group of ten people, four of them children, at 8:20 PM on a Saturday night. The initial information we were given was that it could be 5 minutes it could be 20 minutes. The staff at the front of the house was obviously uninformed as to what the manager's, George, intentions were for us. One of our group told the hostess at about 8:40 that if they could not seat us by nine, we were leaving. We were told that it was no problem, one table was free and the other had it's check. A table for four was seated at 8:45 and a table for two at 8:55 while we were still waiting. We were informed that the tables were clear, but we couldn't sit down. I asked why and saw the hostess talking to the manager who was standing in the entrance to the kitchen. He said we couldn't sit. It was now after nine. 5-20 minutes had turned into 40 minutes. I asked the front of the house staff to get the manager. It took some urging of two of the front of the house staff before the manager came out and explained that the kitchen was not prepared to handle the orders from our group all at once, yet they allowed six other people to sit and order while we were waiting, all adults mind you. He also told us it would be at least another 20 minutes before he could even seat us??????? This was a Saturday night at approximately 8:30 at a chain restaurant. How can you be understaffed like that? If he had turned us away immediately, this would be a totally different review, but he let us sit there for 40 minutes and fought his staff before coming up to see us. George was argumentative with me, even to the end, thinking he was doing a good job running a restaurant. Turning away a group of people in the double digits, not letting them sit and order drinks.... not good service. Not telling your front of the house staff what the issues are, not good managing. Not coming up right away and apologizing, or tying to make amends, unforgivable. read more
