    Hot dog and fries
    Dee C.

I went to get a hot dog with mustard, relish onion and a small frie. $8.50. Prices went up. And they didn't toast my bun on my hot dog. I was disappointed. And I got a smaller portion of fries too.

A great casual spot for seafood, burgers and ice cream. I was there on a rainy day so there were no lines. Usually there's long lines on a sunny day as the food is worth the wait. I opted for some ice cream and the staff were friendly, courteous, and quick. Food is either enjoyed on one of their picnic tables, your vehicle, or to-go.

Quintessential summer burger shack, great burgers, good hot dogs Was a very nose day, so we took a drive to Harry's but took the scenic route through ct to get there. Got here and the place was busy. Jumped in line and snagged a menu from the front. It's a simple menu, burgers, dogs, fries, some seafood and whole belly clams. So a good selection. Ordered a red hot, a dog and a cheeseburger to try them out. The hot dogs were good, grilled well and plenty of onions. The buns were a little dry, so not the best buns. The red hot was a standard basic red hot. Little spicy but one-note. They did cut and grill the red hot though which I greatly appreciate. The fries were generic but functional, nothing special but cooked correctly. The burger is small, but the quality is stellar. They either grind their own or source their meat from a skilled butcher. The meat was tender, juicy, and coursely ground to retain that steak like texture and flavor. They season their patties, and cook it to a nice medium well. In a land of smash burgers, they decided to go the juicy route. I like a good smash burger, but both smashed and juicy styles need a skilled cook to pull it off. The cooks at Harry's know how to cook and season correctly for their style of burger, and the end result is awesome for the location. If you happen to want a burger stand that's just a step above what other burger shacks offer, then Harry's is a very solid choice. It's great food done cheap, simple but executed properly and a nice place for a respite.

Harry's Place is definitely an institution of roadside eats. Hamburgers, hotdogs, some fried seafood. You can smell all the deliciousness as you pull in! It's counter service and there's a few picnic tables out front near the counter, but plenty more in a much more serene area out back. The burgers are the standout here imo. They look small, but they're quite filling and always juicy and flavorful. Always add grilled onions!! It's the best part! Hot dogs are good too, but apparently you have to ask for a griddled bun? At least according to a server when my husband went to ask about his cold bun. I find that kind of odd, but i guess just specify every detail to be safe.. They definitely aren't cheap either. Don't expect to come here and feed a family on a budget. Also, the bathrooms leave a little something to be desired. I'm not expecting the Ritz and it's certainly a step up from a port-o-potty, but they're pretty dirty and poorly stocked. Be aware that the parking lot is mostly gravel, and the only area that's paved is right out front.

Published menu at the stand. Not the same price they actually charge you

Beware! They overcharge you. The prices on their displayed menu and take out menu is not what I was charged I was told that they increased their prices but they haven't changed their published prices at the counter ir printed take out menu

Classic single burger , order of fries and hot dog

Delicious!! Nothing fancy butttt that's what you want sometimes , a classic great quality food that doesn't disappoint! I will say, if im being honest I'm deducting a star for two reasons , my burger was too undercooked. Maybe some ppl like it like that so I didn't say anything. Other than that burger was great!!! And the mac and cheese bites I had to return cus they were cold in the middle. When you think of a classic burger and hot dog, These ppl delivered!! Can't wait to visit again for there lobster rolls

This our friends and family that come up from NC every year.

Go to Harry's every year when I come up to the family lake house. He serves hamburgers, hotdogs, fries. They specialize in breaded clams, oysters and lobster roll with butter. Speaking of that I was very disappointed because the lobster roll was $30.00! Really, really! Lobster capital of the world, New England and he charges the same price I can buy it for in North Carolina. I didn't get it but the burgers are great! I have been going there for over 20 years every time I get the lobster roll but not anymore!! The outdoor eating is great and the service is awesome.

Clam strips. Batter so thick, there was no clam taste.

I grew up stopping at Harry's either on the way-to the beach (Ocean Beach Park in New London), or on the way back, so I was excited when my brother stopped here in our way to RI. My sister in law ordered a double burger and said it was very good. My brother ordered the fried fish and chips and said it was "ok" ... the breading was too thick and not that tasty. I had ordered the clam strip platter, and we ordered onion rings for the table. The breading on the fried clam strips, after eating half of them, I still hadn't tasted any of the clams. Same can be said about the onion rings. I was very very disappointed. I refuse to give Harry's less than 4 stars though... I have-to believe they care enough to look into this breading issue after they read this review? This restaurant has been a family favorite for too many years not to fix less than stellar items, especially the batter on their fried foods. Soooo with that said, as long as you stay away from the fried foods (not worth the calories), for now and you should be ok. Maybe ask them if they've changed the batter since the end of August 2022.

Harry's Place in Colchester is a CT Institution. It's been open for 100+ years. No matter how you look at Harry's, it's at least a solid burger, dog and fried seafood stand with outdoor seating open in warmer times. In my experience, the people who think of Harry's as a 5 Star Place, grew up going to Harry's and have great memories. I grew up in Ohio and have no longtime memories of Harry's. I like occasionally visiting when I'm in the area though. Harry's grills a solid burger. Today, I ordered a 1/4 pound cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce and tomato. For a quarter pound burger, it is taller and less wide than you would expect. Every part of the burger was above average, but not up there with the best CT burger places for me. I also ordered a side of fried calamari. It was good. I would order it again. Harry's often has a line. I thought they managed the line fairly well and service was friendly. I think I waited in line about 10 minutes and waited another 10-15 minutes for my food after I ordered. Four Stars for Harry's Place, but it's definitely one of those places that you should check out if you haven't.

    Our order. No bueno.

It seems like the drive thru line is always veerrrryyy long. I just walk inside. Why idle my engine for twenty minutes (or whatever) to pick up a meal. Inside I'm usually first or second in line and have my food in minutes. The entrance situation on this building is odd. You really can not see it. Located on the side of the building, facing the main road, you have to cross through the drive-thru line of cars (or park on the left side of the building), follow the sidewalk toward the drive-thru, bear left and then look to your left to see the door. We placed a rather large (seven people) on-line order over the summer and they did manage to forget an item, so I get how that process needs to improve at this location. We also got an item that was not 'ours' in that order. Perhaps a case of 'wrong bag' in a busy kitchen? Whatever, the person without a burger was unimpressed as was the person who paid for the sandwich. Figuring out how to stop this madness definitely needs to happen. When we order inside for just a person or two, they do 'get it right'. There are napkins, straws and a couple other items located in an area just past the cashier. Whether you are dining-in, or taking-out, you need to grab your own items from this area. The staff are pleasant even if not the most interactive. Last visit I had their fish value meal. I must say, this fish is good. The outside is surprisingly crispy, you can really taste the cheese on there, nice bun and it was well constructed (as in, everything lined up, my cheese wasn't half off the patty for example). I will definitely get this fish sandwich any day ahead of some other fast food option. Way better texture and taste. I like Wendy's and am glad I have this option. On days I need to 'chew and screw' this is my preferred option.

They really debated me even after pointing out how the sandwich is made on the screen with the menu right behind them. I love the really huge booth! I like the vegan options too! To start it out, I'm having a Saratoga sparkling water. I've never seen the smaller, plastic bottle versions. I like this stuff! They serve seasoned popcorn as a complementary item. That's different. It's quite fresh and very good! For my first drink, I'm having a Cosmopolitan. This is made with Tito's Vodka, cranberry juice, orange liqueur and a little lemon juice. I like the floating dried lime wheel garnish. Nice glass. This tastes perfect! For my first item, I'm having the Caesar Salad. This is made with little gems lettuce, shaved Parmesan (light), brioche croutons and Caesar dressing (light). Well, it's not tossed so I think I scared the cook when I wanted light dressing. Croutons are nice and soft. I like the dressing. This is good! Let's see what this tastes like! These are good! I taste sweetness but not very spicy. For my entree (burger), I'm having the The Great Beyond Combo. This is a burger made with Beyond Italian Sausage, pickled jalapeño, raw red onion (raw? Who the heck actually cooks it?) and Dijon aioli on a sesame seminal hero. I want it as spicy as possible. The Combo includes an order of cole slaw. It is all served on a warm, green metal plate. The cole slaw is served in a cold little bowl. I like it! I can taste the heat of the sandwich. Well, a little of it. It tastes great though! Yummy! For my last drink, I'm having a Chai Old Fashioned made with Evan Williams bourbon, chai, sugar (do they actually muddle a sugar cube? Nah!) and Angostura bitters. This is different! Chai and bourbon! It is served in a big, huge glass with a single, large, square ice cube to slow the dilution process. Great garnish! A star anise! (The Cowsills) Visiting the Flour Girl Café and Bakery will put you squarely in the middle of a Flour Girl Village with four distinct components. Within the village is the Flour Girl Café at 16 Main, the Flour Girl Bakery at 14 Main, the Flour Girl Country Store at 12 Main, and the Door Yard in a rear courtyard for dining and hosting events between the bakery and country store. Today we had breakfast at the Café and followed it up with a visit to the bakery. A common thread at both stops was the wonderful personality and friendliness of the staff we interacted with. The counterperson at the Café could not have been nicer and her personality radiated throughout the room like a beam of sunshine. She welcomed every new customer as though they were long lost relatives, exchanged some pleasant small talk and then diligently repeated the orders before ringing them up. She was fantastic. The café keeps things humming all week long--open Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 4:00, Saturdays from 7:30 to 4:00, and Sundays from 7:30 to 3:00. Flour Girl Café covers you from breakfast through lunch. Mornings bring all the good stuff: coffees and lattes, smoothies, egg sandwiches, bagels, wraps, waffles, toasts--you get the idea. Swing by at lunchtime and you'll find sandwiches, paninis, salads, burgers and soups waiting for you. Oh, and as a bonus perk, the bread for sandwiches and burgers is made at the bakery next door, so freshness is something the Flour Girl takes seriously. For breakfast, we had a Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato, and Cheese Bagel ($7.99) and an Avocado Toast (2 pieces) with Feta and tomato ($9.99), Two 16-ounce drip coffees were $3.50 apiece. The portions were large, and my avocado toast on sourdough was fantastic. We sat in the first-floor dining room and took in the pretty interior design of pinks, pastels, and floral color theme. Now, on to the bakery! The Flour Girl Bakery may be best known for its sourdough breads, but the fun doesn't stop there. You'll also find muffins, cookies, scones, their award winning cinnamon rolls, and a rotating lineup of fresh baked breads. And those cinnamon rolls? They spark a full on weekend rush--people happily line up just to snag one before they disappear. We picked up a box of mixed goods, muffins, cake squares, and a big hunk of jalapeno cornbread that will go perfectly with a homemade batch of lentil chili sitting in my fridge. We saw an adorable feature at the bakery, where plastic eggs were hidden within the store for the kiddies to find and cash in for a cookie. It's the little customer service features we saw at the Flour Girl's Café, Bakery, and Country Store that made today's visit so pleasant.
