Went to eat here with the Hubs on New Year's Eve around 5:45 PM on a rainy night. Luckily there was…read moreno line when we arrived, but this place can definitely get busy, so I'd still expect a wait during peak times. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which was easy, and everything came out pretty quickly after we placed our order. They also have a sauce bar (extra cost) along with some sesame balls and rice crackers, which was a nice touch. Service was okay overall -- we did have to call our server a couple of times when we needed things. The inside of the restaurant is very pretty and clean for the most part, which made the experience enjoyable. Price-wise, it's on the average to slightly higher side for shabu, but overall a decent spot for hotpot, especially for special occasions or colder/rainy nights.

This was my second time here and overall it's a great experience- fun sauce bar, quick service, elaborate decor - what's not to like? As far as the eating experience goes, I'd give it a solid 4... that is until I went to the ladies room...or tried to. This was my first time going to the restroom and I was appalled by the mustiness of the air and the dirtiness that I saw. I'm familiar with restrooms at basic restaurants and I don't expect aromatherapy candles or scented hand soap but as a consumer I do expect a certain level of cleanliness especially at an eating establishment. I tried to just suck it up and bear it but had to leave as soon as a saw a thin black ring around the toilet bowls...(mold?!?!) Sorry if it's too much info but just had to share- go for the food and the picture worthy decor but skip the bathrooms till they have a thorough clean!

Disappointed to hear that this place closed. Wish we could be there for the last day atleast. Went…read morehere over the years and each time I've enjoyed it a lot. I hope to see this restaurant open some other time, even if it's in a different place. From what I remember the soup was great, and the other foods we placed in them were almost nice. I didn't mind most of the things most people had problems with, namely, the "presentation." Honestly didn't really care because I really only enjoyed the food. The owner was also nice and chill, along with the rest of staff, hope they're doing well.

I hadn't been to this place in like 12 years prior to this dinner. I remember liking it a lot in…read morethe past. I do feel that this place needs to up their game. Other places have passed them by in some respects First there is no sauce bar here. Just four small containers of sauces you can use. Ironically none of those sauces are soy sauce. A darker possible peanut sauce, a sesame sauce, a pinkish possibly fermented tofu sauce and the standard chili oil. I wanted more as far as the sauce goes and I thought a sauce bar was pretty standard these days Second there is no AYCE bar with small snacks. Kind of interesting When ordering the meat, I guess they wanted to save a plate so the sliced meats just came in plastic containers. That loses some points with me on presentation Other than that everything is fine. They charge a little less for the broth than a lot of places do, so that's nice Got vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, noodles and a couple of meats. Overall it's a fine experience, mostly Ok to Good. But the lack of some things makes it more second tier for me and it would not be a go to hot pot place for me

Just like I mentioned in my review for Lameizi, that one is average, but Chunlahao is a little beyond average. It was at Chunlahao that I first learned about the so-called square bamboo shoot (方竹筍), and I liked it. But this time they were out of it, which was a pity. Another interesting thing happened when we ordered a plate of marinated beef. It looked fancy, arranged in a green and red Tai Chi shape, very beautiful. But when I tried to put it into the pot, I realized the plate only had the decoration but no beef. We told the waiters and they also found it funny. They replaced the plate for us. The restaurant was much brighter than the last time I visited, maybe because they changed the lights. We also had more people with us this time. I guess that is why I felt like giving a higher score. It must have been the better atmosphere.

This hot pot place is on the north west corner of Rosemead Blvd and Las Tunas. The same plaza as…read morethe TJ maxx. It has a big parking lot so I don't think parking would be an issue. On the outside it only says "Chong Qing Hot Pot". This place is pretty big actually. When you walk in, there's like a bit of a walk from the entrance to the actual dining area. The inside is also nicely decorated and themed. There are two "bars". One bar has all of your dipping sauces that you can make and it has jar sesame oil. There is another bar on the other side which has things like Sesame balls and other dessert like items. The service here is really good. They come check on you very often. Make sure your soup isn't empty and the food comes really quickly. The quality of the food is pretty good too. The meat is well marbled and the vegetables are pretty fresh. The soup broth I got was the spicy one which is like the traditional hot pot soup with the oil and the bone broth. The bone broth soup is actually really good. It's not bland and the spicy hotpot is actually really spicy. Overall, the experience is really good. Compared to Hai Di Lao to this place, I think this place is a bit better in terms of service and pricing but Hai Di Lao is better is presentation. The bone broth soup at Hai Di Lao is very bland and doesn't taste like anything compared to here. This place also has dessert items like sesame balls which is pretty good. I highly recommend trying this place out. 5/5. The only downfall I would say is the restroom, it just doesn't have good ventilation and smells.

The mushroom soup base is a must--rich, flavorful, and especially perfect when paired with rice. It's one of those broths you actually want to finish, not just cook in. For meats, I always go back to the fatty beef belly and the Angus beef ribeye. Both are high quality, well-sliced, and cook perfectly in the broth--super satisfying every time. Service here has consistently been great. Yes, there's usually a wait, but that's because this place is always packed--it's constantly poppin, and for good reason. The staff keeps things moving and still manages to stay attentive. But honestly, my favorite part? The snack bar. It's such an underrated highlight. They have a variety of snacks available, and I always end up grabbing extras to take with me for later. It just adds to the whole experience and makes it feel like you're getting more than just a meal. Overall, this spot lives up to the hype. Great food, great energy, and definitely worth the wait.

The hostess asked for our information to get us to a table more quickly, which I appreciated. The food options are vast! The basic meats are far cheaper than Hai Di Lao. The sauce and snack bar had many options that I couldn't decide how to build the sauce correctly. The soup bases were good. The cost is good for not having to drive to Hai Di Lao and getting basic meats. What's problematic is getting service. The servers are so busy, it's hard to get their attention. It took more than 10 minutes to get the bill and receipt. I would give this place better stars if they had more servers. Hai Di Lao is far more attentive and the tablet is very helpful. Lastly, the restaurant is small so it feels like you're in everyone's way when you're at the sauce bar.

Disclaimer first, i'm a huge fan of chinese style hotpot. Luckily all that shabu offers a selection of broth and sauces. They are true japanese style, so don't expect mala here, even the chili oil is a bit hidden on containers a bit away from the sauce bar. I tried the spicy beef broth, it has miso flavor and slightly tangy undertone. It has heat, but not spicy at all. The spicy pine sauce and wasabi ponzu (the best!) fulfills my search for heat in this place. All the sauces (except sesame sauce) has acidity/tangyness in it. The meat are good quality and very thin so it's ready in just a few dips. The brisket is fatty, and it's my favorite but only at this place thanks to the acidic profile that cuts through the rich fats. The short plate is very thin and tender, the flat iron steak is more lean. The chuck eye is kinda the middle ground. Unfortunately lamb only served as dinner menu. The vegetable and mushrooms bar have adequate variety, but they only have two kinds of tofu which is soft tofu and fried tofu pockets. No beancurds/tofu skin. They have more selection in seafood though. There's ice cream, soda fountain, green tea and black tea, and even buffet food like fried rice and wonton etc. Overall it's a well-priced hotpot for good quality ingredients, with japanese style broths. And the best thing is they accepts solo diners.

I tried it again with my friend the other day because we were in the area. I thought it was just okay and probably wouldn't come back here specifically because there's just a lot of better places, but this isn't bad at all for the price. The inside was huge and dimly lit, and they had a large self serve bar for hot sides, drinks, hot pot toppings like veggies and seafood, sauces, and dessert. It was a great vibe! There's a pretty large variety of broths to pick from which is nice. We both got the spicy beef, which tasted rich and tomatoey so it was different than a typical beef bone broth that I expected! It was nice because the acidity helped to balance with the richness of the meats. Of all the meats, our favorites were the brisket and the beef short plate. Personally I like to know which meats are which but sometimes when I asked, the servers couldn't really tell them apart so it kinda sucked because I wanted to know which ones I actually liked to order more of those. They were quick with taking our orders though and meats came out really quick. For hot sides, they had a large variety of things, such as fried rice, crab, crispy fried chicken, kimchi, and more. I liked that there was variety! I just think that overall, the experience didn't wow me as much as it did back then, but definitely cheaper than most places and so you get what you pay for!

They offer premium and prime options for their AYCE hot pot. Their prime menu was $52.95 and offered 9 different soup bases, 17 meat options, self serve bar filled with veggies, noodles and meat balls, drink stations and ice cream. I got the split pot with sukiyaki and jelly golden chicken broth. The sukiyaki was slightly sweet and full of umami flavor. The jelly golden chicken was flavorful and comforting. You can tell they boil down chicken bones from the chicken fat in the soup. They have 3 meats on the prime menu that were wagyu. All 3 were super tender and required little to no chewing. The abalone were massive and firm yet tender. We got the shrimp paste as well which was flavorful and filled with chunks of shrimp. The veggies were fresh and I enjoyed the variety. My favorites were the crown daisy, spinach, enoki mushrooms and Napa. They even have the sweet potato wide rice noodles that are slimy and chewy. Not a lot of AYCE places have it so it's a rare find. The staff here speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English so ordering was not an issue. They have a small lot in the back with about a dozen spots which wasn't an issue on the week day.

The owner was really nice, she helped us take a pic and also took a pic for the photo wall in the back. I had split sukiayki and the mala spicy soup, both good. I also tried the tonkatsu, it was tasty. Meat took some time to come out but seafood is very fresh. The shrimp and mussel from the premium menu is very fresh. The drinks and ice cream are included. I love thrifty ice cream, with Rite Aid gone, I savor every chance I get to have Coconut Pineapple ice cream. I had the canned Herbal Tea and Milk tea, both are very good. The herbal tea was sweet, almost like dates. I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.
