Everything LOOKS like it's going to be delicious, but unfortunately, looks were the highlight of our experience. We ordered the three mahi mahi fish tacos with fries and the fried grouper sandwich with fries. The mahi mahi tacos arrived beautifully plated with colorful pickled onions, cabbage, and cilantro. Visually, they were gorgeous. Flavor-wise? Extremely underwhelming. The taco was filled to the brim with cabbage (please go lighter), fish lacked seasoning, and the toppings and sauces couldn't make up for it. The fried grouper sandwich, which was actually recommended by our waitress, was even more disappointing. It was an absolute mess, and not in a good way. There was so much sauce covering everything that the sandwich became excessively wet and slippery. The fish literally kept sliding off the bun! It was difficult to hold together and even harder to enjoy. Despite being drenched in sauce, the fish itself still lacked flavor. What made this even more frustrating was the interaction with our waitress afterward. When she came back to check on us, she said, "Oh, you just wanted the fish?" Well, that would've been helpful information when you originally recommended the sandwich! That's my biggest issue with both dishes. It seems like the kitchen is depending on sauces to do all the heavy lifting instead of properly seasoning the seafood. Sauce should complement well-seasoned fish, not serve as its only source of flavor. On top of the disappointing food, my drinking glass was dirty. That's something I shouldn't have to worry about when dining out. The restaurant has potential. The atmosphere is inviting, the plating is attractive, and the menu sounds promising. But when you're a seafood restaurant, the seafood needs to be the star. Unfortunately, Slapfish delivered a meal that photographed much better than it tasted. I left disappointed and wouldn't be in a rush to return.
