We've eaten here many times in the past and had a good experience. This visit was poor at best! Please note: (ALL PICTURES ARE FROM MY PREVIOUS VISITS NOT TO THIS VISIT) Unfortunately this visit is going to be the last time. Both the service and quality of food has gone way down from what they were famous for. The waitress spilled my tea, also dipped her finger in my tea, had no apology or offer to exchange it with a fresh cup. I had to ask her for a fresh cup of tea. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!
Chef Ping continues to be a favorite for our family based in Chicago to gather. The food continues to be excellent and of great value. My wife, her mom, and I were in Chicago to remember my father-in-law's death anniversary, and my sister-in-law chose Chef Ping's, for our party of nine for a Wednesday lunch. Parking is plentiful and the dining area can seat a lot. We got seated at a large round table in the back room, with a large lazy susan (just need to remember to spin it very slowly). We ordered a lot, and the food came out slowly. There was plenty of leftovers for the local folks to have for future meal or two. 3 Shrimp Toast (6 pieces each) - $26.85 - greasy but good, with the shrimp paste being a little sweet (in a good way) Noodle in Black Bean Sauce ($12.50) - this is jja jang myeon, which two of us had the previous night. It was OK, not near the top of the best I've had. Ping's Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the other classic Chinese-Korean dish, this is jjampong, a dish I've had many times. I was the only one to eat it, so ended up being my main dish. It was good, with thick noodles...just wish it had more seafood. Salt & Pepper Smelt ($16.90) - not sure if always available, but this was excellent...my favorite dish and one that I finished once I realized that everybody had their fill. It really depends on the quality of the smelt, which was excellent in this case. It was lightly battered, and carefully deep fried. Other dishes enjoyed by others: 2 Salt & Pepper Prawns - $35.90 - large head-on shell-on prawns fire wokked. Salt & Pepper Tofu ($11.50) - for the vegetarians Chicken Skewers (4) - $8.75 - tender and shareable Walnut Shrimp ($19.90) - mayo with shrimp Young Chow Fried Rice ($12.50) - fried rice is a necessity for our group Mongolian Beef ($17.50) - a classic 2 Sesame Ball (4) - $7 - a great way to finish a meal. 18% tip was automatically added, and service was OK throughout. Our water was kept refilled, and I think hot water was as well. It was a good meal and opportunity to get back together
3.5/5 for me. My parents and I came here for dinner on a Saturday and it was about a hour wait. This place was incredibly popular and there's lots of parking spots available in their rear lot. I thought the food was ok, it's more of a Korean and Chinese fusion restaurant. The flavor of the food was a bit lacking spice and complexity. Service was efficient and friendly.
Moon was wonderful server. Very sweet and kind . Food was wonderful as usual . I had a group of seven so I really like that because we get to order more food as it is we over ordered what else is new but leftovers are always good and if you come and you want superb service moon is awesome.
I have been here before years ago when they had a different owner and haven't been back since. This is my first visit. It was during a weekday lunch. There's lots of parking, which is great. Luckily, we got seated immediately and I'm not sure if they take any reservations anyway. The menu has a lot of lunch specials or lunch offerings which we did do with the Mongolian beef. However, we did order an entrée of the walnut shrimp and then also an entrée serving of the soup pictured as well. This place moves fast and it's very busy. The food was OK but nothing really stood out per se. The Mongolian beef was solid, however, very Americanized offering for the lunch special with the fried wonton, the veggie eggroll and the fried rice. I would come back just for the Mongolian beef and or if they had other dishes with a higher level of authentic Chinese tastes.

Haven't been to Chef Ping for a while! Got here 20 minutes after opening on a Sunday and the place was PACKED!!! We were lucky to find parking in their lot. It was also full! Had about a half hour wait time and it wasn't even 5PM yet! We decided to go to the bar and grab a beer while we waited. The bartender was very friendly! After finishing up a beer, they were ready to seat us. We ordered Chinese broccoli, salt and pepper squid, seafood combo and Mongolian beef. Food was very flavorful and cooked authentically! Our waiter was very busy. Hard to find her sometimes for refills. But did check up on us once. The place is super loud and noisy. You almost have to shout to hear each other lol Been here so many times and has never once been disappointed in the quality of the foot they deliver, despite how busy they always are!
I wanted to share some thoughts about my recent visit to your restaurant on a busy Friday night. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for a table, which is understandable given how popular the spot seemed. Once seated, we noticed our waiter was really hustling, trying to cover quite a few tables at once. Because he was so swamped, it was a little tricky to catch his attention for things like drink refills. We also experienced a bit of a communication challenge with some of the staff, which occasionally made it hard to convey our requests clearly. I have to say, the overall ambiance of the place is really pleasant. However, I did want to mention that the restroom could use a more thorough cleaning. Sometimes, those details can leave a lasting impression about the overall care taken in an establishment. Also, we had to ask for some replacement silverware, plates, and teacups as the ones at our table weren't as clean as they should be and had left over food on them and just a small suggestion, the shared condiment containers for sweet and sour sauce and hot mustard seemed to have some build up, so a regular wipe down between uses might be a good idea for hygiene. Now, onto the food, which is, of course, the main event. The mini shrimp egg rolls were absolutely delightful a real highlight and packed with flavor. I did notice the lettuce served with them tended to wilt really quickly from the heat, which made it less appealing for presentation. The fried rice was also quite good and a generously sized portion. The sweet and sour shrimp had fantastic breading and perfectly sized shrimp, but I personally found the sweet and sour sauce a little on the mild side, perhaps needing a touch more zest or salt. I have to rave about the shrimp chow mein it was seriously amazing.
Mixed reviews on the food from my group. I loved my very freshly fried egg rolls and sesame beef. The twice fried pork was tender and had good veggies. My other friend had almond chicken and enjoyed it. Nothing was WOW but nothing was bad. My friend who ordered the crab Rangoons really disliked them because they had curry in them. The restrooms were dirty but the place was busy. Service was quick. AC seemed to be on the fritz though. It was warm and muggy.
Chef Ping features a wide range of Asian dishes that are suitable for both meat eaters & vegetarians. A vast majority of those who dine-in at this restaurant are Korean, leading a lot of the dishes to have sort of a Korean-Chinese fusion. You can't go wrong ordering any of the items, from meat to seafood to vegetarian meat substitutes - they're all packed with flavor and offer great portion sizes. I love the honesty of the staff (which some may not be used to) as they will tell you if they think you're ordering too much food / don't think you'll like what you order. The waitress made sure to warn us when ordering the black bean noodles, afraid that it was our first time ordering and we would be scared of the extremely dark colored noodles. A must order for us every visit is the Pong Pong chicken (chicken lollipops that are so easy to eat) and Szechuan Eggplant (garlicky, crispy eggplant. Not insanely spicy and so addictive!) We also loved the vegetarian duck - not that it tasted like duck, but it was still a great, flavorful vegetarian option. This restaurant gets busy fast, especially on weekends, and can be loud at times. As long as you're okay with waiting during busy hours for a server to check up on your table, you'll absolutely love Chef Ping!
The food was authentic Asian cuisine. The twice cooked pork was extremely tender and rested in the soft, pillowy buns sandwiched with the cabbage. The steamed buns came out splintering hot which made them stick to the plate. I think I would've wanted each bun to be separated by parchment or wax paper because each time anyone would grab a bun, it would tear and fall apart because it was so stuck to the plate. The fish fillets were so soft and tender it made it easy for the elderly family who struggle to chew be able to enjoy it. In contrast, The Pong Pong Chicken was a popular dish--but definitely was tough and hard on teeth for the elderly in our party. The Pong Pong chicken were fried and glazed with a sweet, tangy chili sauce which created a thick coat covering each lollipop of chicken. Although it had the chillies, it wasn't terribly spicy where the pain/heat took away from enjoying the chicken. We asked for The Ping's Chicken Wing to be non-spicy. It was made to order and had a garlic glaze sans the chili. The walnut shrimp was creamy and sweet with the candies walnuts. We ordered two Kings Noodle Platter, one spicy and one non-spicy however felt neither had any flavor. The texture of the noodles were chewy and springy but I was disappointed it tasted a bit bland. The fried dumplings were good but thought it was odd they were all served upside down. It ruined the presentation quality of the dumplings-- felt like they just quickly flung them on the plate and threw them onto the table. The salt and pepper squid were thick dense pieces of squid but felt it was overly breaded. The taste of the excessive fried breading took away from the flavor of the squid. The service was ok. It was VERY busy, numerous parties waiting to be seated, and every server was working hard to keep up with all the orders. We waited really long for each dish to be served. The waitress came by three times surprised herself that dishes were not served yet. Then when the food was delivered, the server kept knocking over my chopsticks or setting the dish on top of the chopsticks or napkin on the table. I recognize all the staff were trying to "hurry" but it felt a bit chaotic. We had to wait long periods of time to get water cups filled and napkins. We were seated at two joined long rectangle tables. Only one had a cloth tablecloth AND plastic disposable tablecloth on top of it. But because of the material of the plastic-y tablecloth it wasn't absorbent so the cups of ice water sweated like crazy and would create puddles on the table and trickle off the side. I was wondering why I kept feeling water on my lap! Despite the little annoyances, I'd still return with family and extended family craving authentic asian cuisine!
Solid choice if you want food that's better than the strip mall establishments. Everything came out quick, hot and fresh on a relatively busy Thursday evening. Our server was attentive and we got food, and water refills, expeditiously. Food wise, all of the flavors are familiar but unique. The crab Rangoon has a hint of tumeric. The ping wing is garlicky and subtly spicy. The ever present orange chicken had a bit more depth of flavor than the other places. Thankfully nothing was syrupy sweet! Vibe wise, it's the burbs. A competent space with simple decor, it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not.

The food I had was actually really delicious. I had been at this place a few times prior to this review, but today I had a surprisingly good experience. If could be because I haven't been here in a long time, but I didn't have high expectations. I remember my last experience here as unpleasant. But today was different. From the photos, the food was fresh and steaming hot when it got to my table. The fried rice was delicious, very flavorful, and the sho mai was good, more dense than usual, however. I wasn't able to take a photo of the fried intestines, but it was okay. It was bland, but very fatty and delicious. The ambiance was busy as usual, I recommend making a reservation Frist because the wait can be long. The service on the other hand was okay, our waiter was very kind and was willing to give us what we needed asap. Overall, you experience completely depends on the time and day. Wether the people working are in a good mood, you shouldn't have high expect ions. Which is why I'm giving this place a lower rating. Plus, this place isn't that different/unique from other Chinese restaurants. I would still recommend though. read more

The place is a hidden gem in the northern suburbs. The food here is authentic Chinese and also has options for more Americanized cuisine. The waitress recommended I tried the sweet sour fish, broiled clay pot fish, whole duck, and sizzling beef and it did not disappoint. Quality- this place shines here. Everything had some depth of flavor and if you get the right dishes, you have a mix of hot, dry, crunchy food that compliments the wet, savory food. The duck was really crispy and cooked well. The fish dishes were soft and the skin absorbed all the flavor in the pot. The seafood pot was milder, not overly salted and had a good mix of different seafood. Quantity- it is not bad. I got a decent amount for the price. Atmosphere- I liked the homey feel the place had. There was enough space between the tables so you're not packed like sardines during rush hour. Service- good service. No complaints here read more
Some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. Had to wait a while, you could tell it's a popular place, but we really enjoyed all the food. We also had the Young Chow fried rice and the shrimp with lobster sauce -- all delicious! read more
this place never disappoints! (except if i have to wait for a table because this place is always jam packed) this restaurant has one of the best korean style chinese dishes like the black bean sauce noodles (jjajangmyun) and seafood noodle soup (jjampong)! those 2 are always my go-tos as well as their kkampoong shrimp ( fried shrimp) and they are also know for their lollipop chicken wings! i've also had their pad thai which is pretty good and their chicken curry dish. highly recommend coming here on a weeknight as weekends are busy all day long. i've done takeout here before but has to wait 40 min. yikes! i think it definitely says a lot about the popularity of this place read more

Walk inside, and it's like there is no covid raging outside. Super busy despite it being a Tuesday lunch time. Service is efficient but servers don't seem happy to be working here. And I never got any water refill offers. Or any other "can I help you with anything else" offers. Typical busy Asian restaurant. I guess. Lajomyun (Noodle Platter) - I was confused. This is not their signature dish. This is a signature dish at the other Chinese restaurant. This is a copycat dish. And it shows. Underwhelmed. jjampong (seafood noodle soup) - nicely divided into two dishes. Broth was good, but topping felt lackluster. It might have been because it came divided into two portions... Not the best jjampong I've had. Not the worst. Lollipop chicken (pong pong chicken), not to be confused with Ping's Chicken Wing, which is described as their favorite dish. Lollipop is better. Though I felt like the chicken was really small; smaller than the last time I've had it. This is a sweet and tangy dish. And it's good even when eaten cold the next day (leftovers) read more

No matter where I am in the Chicagoland area, the drive for Chef Ping is ALWAYS well worth it. It's hard to believe it's been my go to for Chinese for 8 years now. When the pandemic limited us all to takeout, it was one of the fave five that I made extra effort to patronize as to ensure it stayed open but in judging by the stacks of take out bags each time I went, MANY others love them just as much! And so much so, that at times CP had to stop taking orders several hours before closing time! It's just that good. Point. Blank. Period. If you try it, you'll understand why. One of the most noticeable differences when compared to other Chinese restaurants is their ingredients and preparation. Their food doesn't leave you with that heavy or ate too much feeling and several items that are fried have a far different appearance further demonstrating this. My favorite aspect is take out and the ability to place the order completely online, even requesting items like homemade sweet and sour or hot sauce. My favorite entrees are the beef and broccoli or spicy shrimp. The must haves (for me) at each and every visit are the combination fried rice, homemade sweet and sour and the EGG ROLLS. Trust me when I tell you the EGG ROLLS are the lightest, tasty ones you'll ever have. If you order a lunch entree, which is only offered M-F, an egg roll is included. Otherwise, it's a la carte - $2.95 for two. On cooler days, I can't resist having a soup, egg drop soup, hot and sour soup and/or green tea. If you're into adult beverages with your Chinese, there's a full bar. If you like potstickers and pong pong chicken (fried drummettes), they're tasty as well. For American styled (more common) entrees, prices are on par with other Chinese restaurants as are portions, but their authentic Chinese dishes are enormous and really inexpensive. In April 2010, my wife and I were looking for the first apartment ever in Chicago suburbs. After looking around a few places, we ended up coming to Chef Ping for lunch. This place was my first-time-ever Chinese restaurant in the area, and I ordered my first-time-ever Chinese fried rice, which later became my favorite fried rice in the area for a long time. Before moving to Chicago area, I was in Japan. Every time I went to a Chinese restaurant, I tried the fried rice as a test item of each place. For 13 years I tried many other Chinese restaurants in Chicago suburbs, and today I found their fried rice is still my very favorite. They have several different fried rice on the menu, but pick from combination fried rice, young chow fried rice or ham fried rice. All of three are my best three. We also ordered shrimp egg rolls ("shrimp cigars" as so called), and Szechuan eggplant. Shrimp egg rolls are thin and crispy egg rolls with fluffy minced shrimp in it. There is a sweet sauce and spicy mustard on the table, so you can dip them in for your taste. Szechuan eggplant is our favorite vegetarian menu there. Skin is so crispy but eggplants inside are even "creamy" when served. Spicy and a little sweet thick sauce gives the punch of flavors but does not interfere the crispness and eggplant's flavor itself. Unfortunately this dish does NOT travel well. As you take it home, all crispy skin gets softened up, and eggplant loses its creaminess. But I still love the flavor. I did not order this time, but I also loved their broccoli beef, walnut shrimp, noodle soup called champon, sesame chicken and fried fish dish (I forgot the name). Awesome food, great service and nice ambiance every single time. Everything was shared with our party of ten. We enjoyed everything we ordered. This is one of our favorite go to places when in the Chicagoland (Rolling Meadows) area. Delicious food every time, you can't go wrong but I do recommend making reservations. The best pong pong chicken, Lemon chicken, pork belly, shrimp fried rice, mo-shu pork, everything is just wonderful and very tasty. This place stays busy but the service is quick and great. I would recommend coming here for anything on the menu. Something for everyone for sure. I will come back here every time I come to Chicago and will come again before leaving back home. read more

Food solid here. I would say the best Korean-Chinese food in the area. If there was a 4.5 stars option I would say Chef Ping is a 4.5 star restaurant. Crispy tang soo yook, springy/savory jajang myuen, heart warming champoong, along with a variety of other items. The food is delicious and ingredients are fresh (especially, the seafood). Service is overall good! The main servers are consistent, but there have been times where service was a bit spotty. I recommend you check it out if you are a fan of Chinese food! This is a great place, I've been here many times. The food tastes great, it's easy on the wallet and large portions. I've been to many Asian restaurants and this is a place I love coming to. There is usually many people but even if there is a line to get seated, you don't usually wait long. Great place for couples and large parties. There's lots of flavor in each dish and no matter what you order you won't be disappointed. This restaurant main focus is the yummy food and not the decor. I'll continue coming to this restaurant and I recommend you check it out. read more

Quick service and waitress wanted to take our orders right when we sat down, can I open the menu first?!? environment if the place is nice and nothing out of the ordinary Asian restaurant. The food is where this place really shines. If you go to P.F Changs....yall need to stop going there and put this in your top 3 in the suburbs! read more

Came to Chef Ping yesterday because I'm craving for seafood noodles ( Jiangbong) . Ordered ahead via phone calls. And it took about 25 mins to get the order ready cause they were super busy. Well, Chef Ping is always busy. Lines were extended out of the room. Staff here are super friendly and they can speak mandarin as well which is super convenient for me and my grandparents to order here. Ordered bok choy, jiangbong, and clam soup for two ppl. The clam soup is delicious! I felt warm and comfortable after drinking the soup. Bok Choy is crunchy and healthy. Love this dish. Jiangbong is better than most Korean restaurant. read more

Even though this restaurant is a bit far from where I live, it's definitely worth the drive! The food always turns out fresh and flavorful! I definitely recommend getting the lollipop chicken (lots of meat, crispy) and the spicy seafood noodle soup came in a HUGE portion!! The soup of the dish is so flavorful and spicy which I personally love. This place never disappoints!! read more

Couple things of note: this place is PACKED. On regular days (and especially Christmas eve, we made this mistake thinking we could get takeout but there's no reservations and they stopped taking take out orders as well). Overall, I think this can be a bit disorganized. We were finally able to try it through takeout and after placing an order through the website we got no confirmation email/text/acknowledgment that our order went through, but we did get our food so I guess that's how it is. One of our items was incorrect -- instead of veggie noodles got noodles with shrimp/pork/squid which was great, but obviously not exactly what we wanted. Despite all this, it was an excellent spot and hit the spot for what we were craving. I highly recommend the szechuan eggplant! I think the eggplant plus some noodles of your choice would be amazing. The menu is so vast I'm excited to come back and try more to eventually pick out favorites. Overall, fun selection, hit the spot, if a little bit organized. But it's clearly popular! read more

Since it's been over 11 years since I last reviewed Pings it's time for an update. News Flash is still Amazing and the best Asian restaurant in the area if not the state. Everything from the menu to the service and most importantly the food is steller. Never had a bad dish, from the standard Chinese American dishes (the Sesame Chicken is amazing) to the more unique dish such as one of our favorite things ever their Fu Chi Fae Pian appetizer a traditional Chengdu street food dish of beef and tripe with chile oil and Sichuan peppercorns and cilantro in a cold salad kinda thing. It's just an awesome combination of heat and texture. If I haven't been recently I always have to get Ping's Noodle Platter, I have been getting it since he was at his old restaurant before Pings. Recently we have been getting that great Pork and Pickled Cabbage, I'm not sure it's even on the menu, we just ask for it and it comes. If you like asian food and have never been it's a big miss in your life, it's really one of the best restaurants period in the NW Burbs read more

I have never seen one but there are things you can order off the appetizer listings.
Do the pot stickers have onions in them? Also if they do, do they make them special without them?
I'm not sure but they are very accommodating so give them a call and ask!
Do they have boba?
If you mean Bubble Tea/Boba Tea, I don't remember them having it. It also is not on their menu online. I'd say they don't have bubble tea.
Are there safe gluten free options?
Yes they have gluten free options and can make some accommodations on ingredients.
Do they take reservations?
Hello yes BUT parties of 7 minimum. Anything less they won't do.
Do they have hot pot?
I don't believe Chef Ping offers a regular "hot pot" experience. This is not available on their menu. Given that they get very busy at times, I'm not sure whether a hot pot offering fits in with the time to turn tables over to other guests.
I wonder what happen to Seafood with Peking Noodle? Since when it disappeared from the menu? I had this dish about a little over a year ago and couldnt find it last month.
Seafood Peking Noodle is listed in the menu under the Noodles and Rice section. The servers at Chef Ping are friendly and should be able to help you navigate the menu next time.
Anyone had the Governor Tso's Chicken here? Is it spicy or just a weird version of sweet and sour chicken?
It's got a little kick and has more of a garlicky, savory flavor vs. sweet & sour!
