Everything I ordered was super flavorful, fresh, and delicious. The place is a hidden gem in the northern suburbs. The food here is authentic Chinese and also has options for more Americanized cuisine. The waitress recommended I tried the sweet sour fish, broiled clay pot fish, whole duck, and sizzling beef and it did not disappoint. Quality- this place shines here. Everything had some depth of flavor and if you get the right dishes, you have a mix of hot, dry, crunchy food that compliments the wet, savory food. The duck was really crispy and cooked well. The fish dishes were soft and the skin absorbed all the flavor in the pot. The seafood pot was milder, not overly salted and had a good mix of different seafood. Quantity- it is not bad. (except if i have to wait for a table because this place is always jam packed) this restaurant has one of the best korean style chinese dishes like the black bean sauce noodles (jjajangmyun) and seafood noodle soup (jjampong)! those 2 are always my go-tos as well as their kkampoong shrimp ( fried shrimp) and they are also know for their lollipop chicken wings! i've also had their pad thai which is pretty good and their chicken curry dish. highly recommend coming here on a weeknight as weekends are busy all day long. i've done takeout here before but has to wait 40 min. yikes! i think it definitely says a lot about the popularity of this place read more

No matter where I am in the Chicagoland area, the drive for Chef Ping is ALWAYS well worth it. It's hard to believe it's been my go to for Chinese for 8 years now. When the pandemic limited us all to takeout, it was one of the fave five that I made extra effort to patronize as to ensure it stayed open but in judging by the stacks of take out bags each time I went, MANY others love them just as much! And so much so, that at times CP had to stop taking orders several hours before closing time! It's just that good. Point. Blank. Period. If you try it, you'll understand why. One of the most noticeable differences when compared to other Chinese restaurants is their ingredients and preparation. Their food doesn't leave you with that heavy or ate too much feeling and several items that are fried have a far different appearance further demonstrating this. My favorite aspect is take out and the ability to place the order completely online, even requesting items like homemade sweet and sour or hot sauce. My favorite entrees are the beef and broccoli or spicy shrimp. The must haves (for me) at each and every visit are the combination fried rice, homemade sweet and sour and the EGG ROLLS. Trust me when I tell you the EGG ROLLS are the lightest, tasty ones you'll ever have. If you order a lunch entree, which is only offered M-F, an egg roll is included. Otherwise, it's a la carte - $2.95 for two. On cooler days, I can't resist having a soup, egg drop soup, hot and sour soup and/or green tea. If you're into adult beverages with your Chinese, there's a full bar. If you like potstickers and pong pong chicken (fried drummettes), they're tasty as well. For American styled (more common) entrees, prices are on par with other Chinese restaurants as are portions, but their authentic Chinese dishes are enormous and really inexpensive. In April 2010, my wife and I were looking for the first apartment ever in Chicago suburbs. After looking around a few places, we ended up coming to Chef Ping for lunch. This place was my first-time-ever Chinese restaurant in the area, and I ordered my first-time-ever Chinese fried rice, which later became my favorite fried rice in the area for a long time. Before moving to Chicago area, I was in Japan. Every time I went to a Chinese restaurant, I tried the fried rice as a test item of each place. For 13 years I tried many other Chinese restaurants in Chicago suburbs, and today I found their fried rice is still my very favorite. They have several different fried rice on the menu, but pick from combination fried rice, young chow fried rice or ham fried rice. All of three are my best three. We also ordered shrimp egg rolls ("shrimp cigars" as so called), and Szechuan eggplant. Shrimp egg rolls are thin and crispy egg rolls with fluffy minced shrimp in it. There is a sweet sauce and spicy mustard on the table, so you can dip them in for your taste. Szechuan eggplant is our favorite vegetarian menu there. Skin is so crispy but eggplants inside are even "creamy" when served. Spicy and a little sweet thick sauce gives the punch of flavors but does not interfere the crispness and eggplant's flavor itself. Unfortunately this dish does NOT travel well. As you take it home, all crispy skin gets softened up, and eggplant loses its creaminess. But I still love the flavor. I did not order this time, but I also loved their broccoli beef, walnut shrimp, noodle soup called champon, sesame chicken and fried fish dish (I forgot the name). This is one of our favorite go to places when in the Chicagoland (Rolling Meadows) area. Delicious food every time, you can't go wrong but I do recommend making reservations. The best pong pong chicken, Lemon chicken, pork belly, shrimp fried rice, mo-shu pork, everything is just wonderful and very tasty. This place stays busy but the service is quick and great. Came to Chef Ping yesterday because I'm craving for seafood noodles ( Jiangbong) . Ordered ahead via phone calls. And it took about 25 mins to get the order ready cause they were super busy. Well, Chef Ping is always busy. Lines were extended out of the room. Staff here are super friendly and they can speak mandarin as well which is super convenient for me and my grandparents to order here. Ordered bok choy, jiangbong, and clam soup for two ppl. It had been a few years since we've been here and it has really gone down hill! Came here with a reservation for a party of 22 for a bday celebration. Had to wait 20 min to be seated. Food and service were such a disappointment! Food was bland. Salt and pepper tofu was under seasoned. Xiaoping pork was underwhelming. Seafood noodle platter was terrible! It had a couple shrimp, a couple pieces of pork and the rest was vegetables. Peking duck was a joke! They served a regular roast duck as Peking duck and didn't even serve it tableside! Couple things of note: this place is PACKED. On regular days (and especially Christmas eve, we made this mistake thinking we could get takeout but there's no reservations and they stopped taking take out orders as well). Overall, I think this can be a bit disorganized. We were finally able to try it through takeout and after placing an order through the website we got no confirmation email/text/acknowledgment that our order went through, but we did get our food so I guess that's how it is. One of our items was incorrect -- instead of veggie noodles got noodles with shrimp/pork/squid which was great, but obviously not exactly what we wanted. One of my favorite traditional Chinese restaurants in the Chicago burbs! The menu is pretty extensive, so family style is the way to go if you're looking to try a variety of things. Some of my go-tos are the fried eggplant, fried chicken wings, crispy tofu, and several noodle dishes. The restaurant gets packed quickly during peak dinner hours, so plan to make a reservation in advance. The service has always been excellent during our visits, which is more-so impressive considering how much customer traffic occurs where the staff can still operate efficiently. Since it's been over 11 years since I last reviewed Pings it's time for an update. News Flash is still Amazing and the best Asian restaurant in the area if not the state. Everything from the menu to the service and most importantly the food is steller. Never had a bad dish, from the standard Chinese American dishes (the Sesame Chicken is amazing) to the more unique dish such as one of our favorite things ever their Fu Chi Fae Pian appetizer a traditional Chengdu street food dish of beef and tripe with chile oil and Sichuan peppercorns and cilantro in a cold salad kinda thing. It's just an awesome combination of heat and texture. If I haven't been recently I always have to get Ping's Noodle Platter, I have been getting it since he was at his old restaurant before Pings. Recently we have been getting that great Pork and Pickled Cabbage, I'm not sure it's even on the menu, we just ask for it and it comes. Chef Ping is a huge favorite for some of my family members as well as for after-church gatherings, especially since it offers some Korean Chinese favorites. The menu is pretty extensive, offering various soups, appetizers, kung pao dishes, curry, sweet and sour plates, salt & pepper items, seafood, pork/chicken/veggie options, noodle and rice dishes, and desserts. For a recent family gathering, we had ordered: Ping's Chicken Wing (Ping's version of the ggangpoongi - they were small chicken lollipops with an okay glaze, but I found these wings to be a bit too 'wet' in taste; wasn't really a fan); Gang Pong Shrimp; Szechwan String Bean (tossed with pickled cabbage); Lady Mao's Bean Curd (tofu with minced pork); Spicy Shrimp (sauteed with spices and veggies); Yu-Shang Pork (shredded pork with water chestnuts in a spicy bean sauce); and, Chinese Broccoli in Oyster Sauce. Honestly, the food was just okay, and everything came out piping out. Service was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. The only qualm is that this place does get packed to the gills during the lunch and the dinner rush, and while you may have a large party, this place doesn't do so well in combining tables and/or offering larger settings for people to have some room to eat!
