Food is delicious and they give you huge portions. The salt and pepper chicken is addicting and they have great entrees and egg drop soup. The only downside is that they are cash only. Also, they closed their dining room for COVID and still haven't reopened it so there are lots of boxes in the front area. It would be great if they would set up a dining area or put the boxes behind screens. Overall one of my go to spots! read more

Support local family own businesses!!! This I my lazy weekend go to. The food is fresh. Other places I've gone to in San Diego use cheap products and the leftovers spoil the next day. This does not happen here! The egg foo young is the best I have found in the west coast so far. The fried rice has a lot of flavor, good portion and ally of whatever protein you select. I usually order the shrimp or BBQ pork. Both the salt and pepper and soy w chicken wings are good. You can order online using delivery services but if you go in you need cash. I ordered some take from this place on the first day of the Lunar Year. I ordered the combo plate with Kung Pao Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and an egg roll. I told the very nice Chinese girl that I want a very light sauce on my Kung Pao, but that was not to be so. The Kung Pao came swimming in its sauce, and it was sweeter than it should of been. However, on a good note, they do give you a lot of food. They added lots of peanuts with a good amount of tender chicken, and a crunchy vegetable, which I think was chestnuts. Was happy with that, but the the sauce was just to much and there was not heat in this Kung Pao. The pork fried was good and they give you a lot. The rice was well seasoned and cooked with bits of tender pieces of pork here and there. The rice could of used a little more chopped vegetables, especially the scallions, which I am very fond of in a good pork fried rice. Good pork fried rice. The Egg Roll was a mess. It was way to soft and the inside was nothing but mushy vegetables. I threw it out after one bite. I hope next time they listen to my request of light sauce and fry up a fresh egg roll. read more

Very unprofessional young lady. Walked in. She told us we only take cash then I replied no problem. Then she proceeds to tell us it's so hard trying to teach her kids. You don't do that. Especially if you don't know the individual. Have to keep it professional. Let people order. And learn to differentiate business and personal life. She's young, she doesn't know too much about business. The food was not great. The sweet and sour sauce was watered down and without flavor. Was not good. The chow mein was just full of soy sauce as if someone drenched it and had a overpowering garlic taste. And the chow mein had a black hair in it plus the cook in the back wasn't wearing his mask. Not good. Picked it because it had pretty good yelp reviews so I don't know what went wrong but...yuck. The orange chicken is literally GRAY! And looking through pictures now I see several other people have proudly posted pictures of their gray chicken claiming it was great. Are y'all crazy??? The salt and pepper chicken wings were ok, not bad but definitely not even close to the best you can get in San Diego. Fried rice was the best part but that's pretty hard to mess up. Friday evening after a long day of work not wanting to cook I opted to call in an order for dinner. I had 3 hungry teenagers at home waiting. We've had Chef China before and we love the food. For the first time in a long time my phone call was answered quickly. The guy that took my order was quick and friendly. I ordered, 2 orders of the peppered wings and 1 order of chicken chopsui (misspelled I know). Was told my order would be ready in 20-25 min. In the time it took me to get to Spring Valley from Market and Imperial was about 20 min. I got there and paid about $30 for my whole order and it was been packed as I finished my transaction. $30 feed all of us and we were satisfied. The wings were crispy and fresh! The side of white rice that accompanied the wings was cooked to perfection, and it went well with the huge order of chicken chopsui. My boys and I LOVE the food. The service was great this time. This restaurant is a hole in the wall (to my standard) parking was a bit limited when I came there. Must have been cause there is a MMA fighting small gym next door and it look like they had class going on. Over all my experience at this restaurant merited 5 starts due to affordability, the quality and delicious food, and the quick and friendly service. I was really happy with my order. I had delivery and it came to $62.00 with a $10 tip. I ordered won ton's, egg foo young, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice. It came with a large white rice, and a small white rice, which I did not see as being included with the meal. Every thing was good, but the chicken did not reheat reel well. Very large portions, I ate the 3 egg foo young patties over 3 days, they were great with the exception of the sauce was to thin. I am ordering here again tomorrow. read more

I hadn't eaten here in a few years, but so glad I came back. Food was better than I remembered it, especially the noodle dishes. I had Shrimp Chow Mein and it was spot on. Fried rice with BBQ chicken was also good. General Tso's just right. The orange chicken was good, but not as good as General Tso's and they're fairly similar. The Chicken Kung Pow could have been a little more spicy, but you can always add some chili sauce. The potstickers were super good. The restaurant is takeout only, cash only, and not in the nicest shopping center, but I'll take that as a trade off for good quality food, huge portions at a fair price. Have lived in east county 20+ years. Never noticed this place. Was driving home on the 94, and just googled nearest Chinese restaurant. Located in a dilapidated strip mall, that is currently under renovation. Literally a hole in the wall, yet the best Chinese appetizers and egg noodle soup I've ever had! The only drawback is I have a selfish/crestation allergy, and any appetizers that are deep-fried are deep-fried in the same oil that they fry shrimp in. Also they are cash only and carry out only. A TRUE COVID EXAMPLE. I think just about everyone would agree that since covid-19 started customer service has pretty much disappeared. Well Chef China is a pure example of that. I saw on Google they had salted pepper chicken wings. I've had them other places and I love them so I thought I'd give them a try. I tried calling the restaurant eight times in 20 minutes. All eight times the line was busy. I was only a block away buying a burrito for my fiance so I drove over there. They were only allowing one person in at a time so there were two people in front of me outside in line. When I got in and made my order I told the lady that I had been trying to call them for over 20 minutes and the line was busy. Her response was "we don't answer the phone because we're pretty busy." In my opinion that was an aweful reason for not answering. Customers are calling and the phone was off the hook. She took my order for chicken wings. 6 wings for $9.99 12 wings for $13.99 Those are pretty expensive wings. She told me they would be ready in 25 or 30 minutes. Wow...really??? That's why I was trying to call in the first place. So I wouldn't have to wait. In conclusion, I drove home to drop off the burrito then drove back to Chef King to get my wings. They were pretty good but not worth the anguish. A customer should not have to jump through hoops like that. Especially at those prices. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! I won't return there. read more

Portions were large and cooked just right. The combination plates come with egg roll which I enjoyed. The portions are enough for two servings, CASH only. I've heard some folks rave about and since I have been craving Chinese food for quite some time, I decided to have my husband take the plunge versus driving across town to our go to. I ordered the orange chicken plate with fried rice and it came with a egg roll. Chicken was okay, egg roll extremely mushy (I only took a bite) and the fried rice was just regular rice...which I did not eat. My husbands chicken and broccoli...same issue with the rice and the chicken had an odd after taste. My son's chow mein, while it's great it had many veggies, the noodles were extremely mushy and gummy. The reason for the 2? Been to this place twice first time the food was ahhhhmazing!!! 2nd time eh... we bought orange chicken was yummy. house fried rice was delish!! Chicken egg rolls 5 stars! The fried chicken a little over cooked for my liking. I also wanted the "house chow fun" which they were out of, was looking forward to that but they said to try the Chow mein house noodles which was "okay".
