The best miso soup in California
    Larry P.

I never get tired of coming here for my sushi fix. Their soups are also amazing. There's more ingredients added to the soup than any soup. I've found anywhere. Both soups, miso and hot and sour are so thick. You could almost walk on them. They don't skip when they put things in there. The sushi, I had the heat wave roll my favorite, along with several other rolls. I had a busy afternoon so I didn't get to have any of the sake I love., Maybe next time. The people here are amazingly nice, and they come by your table more than once to make sure that everything is good. I wish I could come here several times a week because the ambience is nice also. They were pretty busy today, but they took care of everybody quickly. I can't wait to come back.

Real brief Ayumi...just wanted to share a positive food experience at Ayumi. Keep up the great work, your food and service are consistent. Looking forward to coming back to Ayumi again and again.

I came here on Mother's Day, and even though it was busy, the service was still incredibly attentive. The staff kept checking in to see how the food was and whether we needed anything. The food was amazing, and we even received a lovely bouquet of flowers. Thank you for the kindness and dedication from the restaurant. I truly recommend everyone bring their family here for a wonderful dining experience.

I've been wanting to try this place out since their opening and finally got a chance this weekend. It definitely did not disappoint. They serve Chinese and Japanese dishes although the only Chinese options we ordered was an appetizer and soups. The inside of the restaurant is fairly small but comfortable. We were seated right away and service was fairly fast. It's always nice when you're greeted with a smile and served delicious, fresh food. We were hungry and started out with some fried gyoza, wonton soup and hot and sour soup. We knew from the first bite, the rest of the food was going to be tasty. My hubby ordered "Leave it to the Chef" and I ordered "Ayumi Roll". Both were soooo good and we can't wait to try out the other ones. Plenty of parking and is easy to spot. The prices were reasonable and servings were plentiful.

We keep coming back. This time we ordered the Protein Roll, Las Vegas Roll, and California Roll, and the balance was perfect. The rice-to-filling ratio here is always spot on. We also got the salt and pepper boneless chicken (white meat), which was our second time ordering it. It was crispy, juicy, and tender. We paired it with the light fried rice on the side, it's just plain delicious. I like to add the toppings from the chicken and mix it with the fried rice.

It's really exciting when you find a sushi spot that offers sushi boxes with assorted rolls. The Sea Box at Ayumi met my expectations of my standard of a rolls only box! The main thing is that the filling of the rolls doesn't mostly contain imitation crab! This review only applies to the Sea Box because I haven't tried anything dishes from them but I'm eager now, to try their different menu items, especially the Chinese food. I ordered the box a day prior to be picked up at a certain time and when I got there, the box was ready and service was quick. Staff were friendly as well. I'd definitely come back for their assorted sushi boxes!

We've heard so much about Ayumi, we had to come try it out. We arrived at the restaurant, it is located in a large shopping center with plenty of parking. We walked in and were greeted by two lovely ladies who were both welcoming. The restaurant is a bit on the smaller end but it was pretty empty when we were there. They seem to get alot of pickup orders. Their menu is huge, which includes many sushi options and chinese food options. My husband ordered the Adam and Eve roll, a spicy Hamachi roll, and a coke. I ordered a California Maki roll and orange chicken rice bowl with fried rice and root beer. The server brought out two cups full of ice, with one can of coke and a can of root beer with two straws. I do prefer fountain drinks over canned drinks, but it was alright. Our sushi rolls were out fairly quickly. My california Maki sushi roll tasted fresh and simple. My husband loved his Adam and eve roll, he said it was very flavorful and fresh. My orange chicken bowl was delicious, i did share a few bites with my husband abd he agreed that it was very tasty. You do get alot of chicken and rice in the rice bowl and for a great price, I even had to bring half of it home to eat later. I have a feeling we will definitely be back to Ayumi to try more items on their menu.

Drove all the way from north county to try out Ayumi. My son said the drive was worth it because the sushi was solid!!! Upon arrival we were promptly welcomed and seated. The service was excellent from order taking, to serving our dishes. The sushi was fresh. Another plus for me is they have a boba menu!! Please consider opening a location in north county. Definitely recommend!! You will enjoy the variety dishes they offer.

Our absolute favorite place to get red thai tea! And their prices are very reasonable. They have Japanese and Chinese food along with some great specials. I usually order thru Uber eats for pickup and there usually is some sort of special or free item with a purchase. I've had the wings which were very good, their garlic combo with shrimp chicken and beef is our go to. I love the lemon roll sushi. My fave here. Very friendly service, It's small inside and does get busy for dinner but like I said - check em out to go! Oh and I saw on IG they have these appetizer boxes that look great for taking to a party. Def going to order in the future.

    | A Masterclass in Specialty Sushi! If you want sushi that tastes as good as it looks, Ayumi is the spot. We skipped the standard rolls and went straight for their specialty menu, and it was a total home run.

I had such a great experience at Ayumi Sushi! The food was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. Every roll we ordered was flavorful, perfectly balanced, and made with high-quality ingredients. The service was friendly, attentive, and fast without feeling rushed. The atmosphere is clean, cozy, and perfect for a casual dinner or date night. If you're looking for fresh sushi and great service in El Cajon, Ayumi Sushi is definitely worth visiting. We'll absolutely be back!

Ayumi is a newly opened eatery in the Spring Valley neighborhood offering a variety of Chinese and Japanese items. It replaced a former pho restaurant in the Casa de Oro Shopping Center. The dining area featured four spots at the sushi bar and several tables that could altogether hold about 40 customers. Parking was no issue at all as the common plaza lot had plenty of spaces. The menu booklet was several pages long, and I didn't have the energy to capture each one as a separate photo. What struck me was the pricing as the costs seemed to be on par, or even on the low side, compared to the competition. I selected two of the special maki rolls for dine in and an order of the assorted lo mein for takeout. The rolls I chose were the Gold Dust Roll and the Hamachi Heaven Roll. The first consisted of salmon and cucumber on the inside with seared salmon, masago, spicy mayo, and chili oil on the outside. The heat from the chili oil made me gulp some ice water to cool off a bit. The second was made up of hamachi, avocado, and cucumber on the inside topped with seared hamachi, chopped jalapeno & cilantro, and spicy mayo-eel sauce. This one had a sweeter taste profile, however the fish quality for both rolls were good. The lo mein contained beef, chicken, and shrimp as proteins. It cost $12.95 as did all of the other varieties of lo mein. Normally, shrimp comes as a dollar or two extra but not here. The family who runs this place was very friendly and on point with their service. I enjoyed my dining experience at Ayumi enough to give it a four star rating.

    Happy hour menu?

Everyday they have a sign up by the cashier saying what the deals are for the day and they do change. If you're NOT dining in I would call and ask before hand.

I am unsure if they are all family but one of the workers daughters was also running around and helping out/interacting with the guests. I'd come back here just based on the positive vibes alone. Besides the service though I ended up ordering a spicy basil with chicken and I did not realize they'd give out the rice in a heart shaped but I thought it was nice touch. The dish overall was solid; good amount of spice, plenty of meat//veggies and a flavorful sauce that complimented it all. One of the workers also came by and just randomly gave me a Thai tea and said it was on the house. The Thai tea itself was good as well, just the right balance of milk, sugar and tea. If I still lived near SDSU I would definitely return here!

It was a little hard to find their menu online since we ordered to-go, and sign outside doesn't match name on Yelp, which made it slightly confusing at first. What initially sold us was crispy pork belly, but we also ordered crunchy roll, pad thai, and yellow curry with chicken. Crispy pork belly (10/10): So yummy. Super crispy on outside, and fat was perfectly balanced. Crispy yet still a little chewy in best way. Crunchy roll (9/10): Wasn't expecting two rolls for price of one! Such a large portion and definitely worth it. Soft, fresh, and really satisfying. Pad thai (10/10): I expected it to be on sweeter side, but it wasn't overly sweet like other places, which I appreciated. Noodles were chewy with nice balanced flavor. Yellow curry (9/10): Great veggie-to-chicken ratio, and curry itself had really good flavor. It also comes with rice on side. Only thing is it was extremely hot and came in plastic container that felt like it softened a bit from heat by time we got home. Service was kind and fast with heartwarming welcome. Restaurant itself was very clean and not too noisy. Definitely would come back, so glad we found this place!
