I wanted to like this place SO bad! But the service was *terrible* AND WE WERE SERVED UNDERCOOKED CHICKEN AND PORK! Do you know what happens if you eat undercooked chicken and/or pork? Yeah...
I found Cheeseboat on @devourpower's IG page and was even more eager to try it when I realized it's part of the Upromise network (5% cash back towards my school loan at participating restaurants!).
My mom, aunt and I walked in at around 8:30pm on a Friday night and, as expected, the place was reasonably packed (even though a few "reserved" tables were open). A host / server greeted us right away and said it'd be a few minutes before some tables cleared out, so we decided to wait at the bar.
First, the bartender did not acknowledge us until 5-10 minutes later. Not even a, "Hello ladies, I'll be right with you". Nothing. Another server walked by and it was he that finally handed us food, wine, and cocktail menus. When the bartender finally came around, we ordered two Georgia Peach cocktails, which were actually really good (and strong).
While at the bar, two adjacent tables cleared out and were pushed together. I thought we'd be seated since the tables did not appear to be reserved, but we were not. When we were finally seated (past 9pm), the other table remained empty, which made me wonder why, but alas.
So we're seated and are, again, not acknowledged for another 5-10 minutes. Nobody offered us water, nor set utensils / napkins on the table. The server that finally came around was nice enough and recommended we get the classic Cheeseboat with egg and butter, which actually was delicious (although it took forever to come out of the kitchen). Still, he left before asking if I wanted anything to drink; I didn't get anything at the bar and just really wanted a seltzer, so I had to ask someone else I saw walking by. Oh and when the glass was finally brought to the table, I had to ask (yet another) server for a straw. Also, when our server came back with utensils and appetizer plates, he only brought two plates (for 3 people), and never came back with the third.
While we're waiting for our mains, my mom wanted another cocktail and the server nonchalantly mentioned that they'd run out of the Georgia Peaches, which is amazing to me given that this is a Friday night. Shouldn't the restaurant be extra prepared for a Friday night shift? Or maybe not, the place emptied out after we were seated.
Anyways... My aunt ordered the Mushroom Soup Dumplings that were also very tasty and arrived at the table rather quickly. And that's as far as it goes for the food.
My mom ordered the Shkmeruli Chicken, which was nicely presented. When she cut into the first piece of chicken, IT WAS PINK INSIDE. I thought, okay, maybe it's the one piece. Nope. Every other piece she cut into was also pink inside. I ordered the Pork Shish Kebab, which was also nicely plated and came with four good pieces of seared meat. Same thing. I cut into the first one and it was pink. I cut into the second. Pink. Third. Pink. Fourth... You get the idea. Unacceptable.
At this point, we were just done and were extremely surprised nobody came around to ask why we had hardly touched our food. It's actually on me for not having spoken up, at least about the undercooked meats, but I don't always like to be *that* person. In hindsight, this situation merited it. We got the check and left.
I really want to give the staff and restaurant the benefit of the doubt. But all in all, the only enjoyable parts of our visit were the drinks, the cheeseboat and the dumplings. I don't really think I'll be coming back just for that... read more
