Their retail shop is small but delightful, with a local, welcoming ambiance. They offer not just cheese but Scray merchandise, accessories, and even ice cream. This shop even has a drive thru available in case you need your cheese curds on the go. The fact that you could watch the factory floor from the retail shop was a fun surprise, taking me back to my Mr Rogers show-me-how-the-crayons-are-made days. Service is personable and I could tell that the person working knew most of the regulars. I'm sure all the locals already know about Scray Cheese but if you're from out of town, definitely make a stop. You'll be happy you did.

The building is well worn. There was a flag outside that said "open". The store didn't look like it was open. Went inside, it's kind of dark. A friendly fellow came down the stairs and turned the lights on. There was one cooler that was chocked full of various cheeses, cheddar, Asiago, and Swiss, oh my. This is a low key little store that sells cheese and various Wisconsin gift type items. You will get into a conversation with the owner, who is a nice guy. When it came to pay for our cheese we were informed that the store hasn't joined the 21st century yet, as they don't take any plastic. We drove to a nearby Kwik Trip to hit an ATM. Bottom line, this is not a big store like the other cheese places in the area. But the place does have wonderful cheese; and it is worthy of patronage. Bring cash.

They had a wide range of cheeses and oils out for sampling, and the staff was friendly and walked us through the different varieties. One of them had us try a cheese dip with ghost peppers, which was hands down our favorite, creamy up front with a slow burn that built after. We picked up some cheddar, a tub of that dip, and a few beers for the road. We also grabbed food from the in-store café: a grilled French onion sandwich, tomato basil soup, and cheese curds. The sandwich and soup were the standouts. The curds were fresh and squeaky. We finished with their ice cream, which held up to everything else we'd eaten. The prices were low enough that the whole stop felt like a steal. A must-visit when you're in Sturgeon Bay.
