Where do I start? This was my first time trying fresh-made cheese curds. I liked them so much that I bought a bag. The girl at the counter also let me try some fudge, which I'm not usually into, but I enjoyed. I got some smoked chicken salad with cherries and a broccoli and feta salad to take back to my cabin. Everything was delicious, and I will stop on my way out of town to restock the curds. They also have a little cafe called Melt, with seating. The potato soup looked amazing! They had Pies and lots of fresh-made goods for sale, and they even had local frozen meats. This is a definite must-stop on your way in and out of Sturgeon Bay! read more

Such a beautiful store. We were there the first of October and it was decorated so cute for fall. Right when I walked in a friendly guy was giving out cheese samples. The cheese curds were delicious & fresh. Had to get a bag to take home. Next were the fudge samples. Omg. The best I have ever tasted. I got the sea salt caramel to take home. Who doesn't like a cheese shop in Wisconsin? I loved the selection of cheese available and wanted to purchase some cheese badly. I, however, had no way to get the cheese home safely. Very good quality cheese and friendly people. Was in Sturgeon Bay on a business trip. Hotel told us about Renard's. We called them and told them we were leaving early in the morning. They told us to ring the doorbell in the morning, and they came out and opened the store early just for us. The four of us ate cheese all the way to Green Bay where we caught a plane. First time at this place while driving back from Door County. It was super delicious and only took about 15 minutes! We even got to do little cheese samples and dips for crackers. What a nice three generation family cheese store! As a billboard announces them a few miles ahead, Renards can be found sitting right off state highway 57, easily seen by all who pass by. When we walked in, we noticed an entire counter of cheese samples and a dedicated staff member there just to SERVE US CHEESE- how awesome! Whatever "cheeses" you may like, they probably have it ..cheese curds, string cheese, smoked string cheese, soft cheese like pate', brie, hard cheeses like cheddars, cherry cheddars, cheese spreads, cheese and sausage packages, olives, and small charcutier trays. They even had a chocolate cheese! Additionally, they carry sauces, jams, jelly's, honey mustards, horseradish, peanut butter snacks like cookies and fudge, cherry topped cinnamon rolls, cherry pie, cherry spread, cherry infused chicken salad, many desserts either infused with cherry or cooked with cheese, you name it - they've probably got it! The site also has a small deli that has its own menu and serves hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, salads, fried curds, and many other items. There is something for everyone. I ordered a cherry chicken salad wrap- but asked to have mine on sourdough instead of a wrap and they accommodated me without question. My husband ordered the Muffuletta sandwich, which was so big he couldn't get it in his mouth - but of course he eventually did!! He loved it. His and my sandwiches both came with a side of greens with pickled onions under a light homemade dressing. Try the cheese, try some lunch, try some snacks, yry some desserts....But be sure to ask how the food and/or sandwiches are dressed, and what sides come with so you won't have any surprises!! For gift giving, there are individual packages of candies, popcorns, almond brittle, macarons, baklava, and pastries like turnovers, cinnamon rolls and fudge. As seen in the pictures below, they have a vast cheese fridge where numerous types of cheese can be purchased in a variety of sizes. My first must stop when visiting the Door! Started here for a lovely infamous cherry French toast cheese stuffed ooie gooey goodness with fresh whipped cream and lovely fresh fruits. Renards is regarded as the best cheese curds maker in door county. Many of the local restaurants and shops proudly carry and serve their curds, and specifically mention them by name. The people there are nice enough, but didn't seem particularly cheerful compared to others I encountered at other establishments in Door County, which was unfortunate. Bathrooms are very clean, as is the whole store. Free samples are available in a hygienic manner. Their fresh (made daily) cheese curds are the best. (Make sure to buy them unrefrigerated for that squeaky fresh sound when you eat them!) Also, I HIGHLY recommend their smoked mozzarella string cheese. It has a wonderful smokiness to it that intensifies the cheese's natural flavor. All in all, a must visit if you are in Door County. read more

Friendly folks. Great fresh cheese curds! I never knew the squeak of a curd until today. Cute little shop with all varieties. Renard's is owned & operated by a Master-Cheesemaker. Their varieties are great. Personally, I recommend the "Trio" cheese. But they also have a guacamole cheddar and a ton of others that were all amazing. The nicest people with great food! Make sure you get around to sampling the cheeses, truffle oils, balsamic vinegars, and fudges. It's a bit on the pricier side but the place is nice and clean, and the dishes are unique and flavorful. For lunch we got: - Monte Cristo Melt: Typically, I don't enjoy mixing savory and sweet flavors but found myself liberally applying the blueberry pepper jelly to the ham & turkey sandwich. - Spinach & Artichoke Melt: Never thought I liked artichoke but this was my favorite sandwich out of the 3 I tried here. Changed my perspective on the vegetable forever. - Albacore Tuna Melt: I've never had a tuna melt before but have had plenty of tuna sandwiches. I've also never had a bad tuna sandwich and this ranks alongside them. Wish there was a bit more distinguishable cheese/alternative flavor besides the tuna - Cheese Curds: Comes with an aioli of your choosing, we got srichacha. Their Mozzarella, Muenster, and cheese curds were my favorite. They sold ice cream (for immediate consumption) and had a lunch menu too. Service was friendly! Amazing cheese here! Their cherry pie was also available for sale and did not disappoint. It was incredible and fresh despite being sold off the shelf for either $9.99 for a small or $19.99 for a large. Of course you cannot forget your cheeses! They do offer free samples still and their 5 year aged cheddar is fantastic and sharp. They also have pepper jack and cheese curds available. The cheese curds were very squeaky so if you don't enjoy squeaky cheese, it may not be for you. But I highly recommend spending $10 on a small assortment box of cheeses, cherries, and nuts. It makes for a great gift! Overall service was friendly and you can find free samples if different oils for bread dipping as well as vinaigrettes. We loved stopping here so much we made a stop on our way to Sturgeon Bay and leaving for home. Renard's has fantastic quality of cheeses and very wide selection! We were big fans of the cheese curds and the whipped string cheese! The string cheese is unlike what anyone of us has had before. We also got a horseradish dip and bag of sausages which were also pretty great. They offer samplings of olive oils, different flavored curds (blue cheese, provolone etc) and their fudge. Would highly recommend stopping here to at least grab a bag of curds for the road or even have a quick snack or lunch break as they also have a menu of warm foods. read more

Hubby and I stopped in here to get some cheese on our way back from Surgeon Bay. I was a bit uncomfortable because it was quite crowed and though everyone was wearing masks it was almost impossible to socially distant and most other customers weren't even trying. We got a bunch of cheeses to bring home, gouda, two kinds of cheddar, monterey jack with peppers and cranberries and a chive cream cheese. I would say the cream cheese was outstanding! I would like to try some other flavors too, next time. The monterey jack was spicy but there weren't enough cranberries to get any of the sweetness. It was a nice spicy monterey jack cheese. We actually haven't tried the cheddars yet. The Gouda is skippable. I wouldn't purchase that again. read more

Cheese. Cheeeeeeeeese! The curds... the mozzarella whips... all the cheeses! This place is amazing. They have what you need, and then some! I hadn't visited since they added fudge to the menu. The girl working the counter was happy to let us sample the various offerings. We left that morning with just our cheese targets, but returned in the afternoon (she remembered us) for some fudge. And wine. And caramels. If you like any of that stuff, this is a must-stop on your way in or (and?) out of town. Even if you don't want any of that stuff, it's an interesting shop to walk around while your friends buy stuff. read more
