Nice little cheese shop out of Egg Harbor. We cand here after stopping at the country store across the road. They let you sample any cheese you are interested in. There is a good amount of variety and almost all of them are made and aged onsite. Staff were educational and friendly and helped us find some tasty cheese. You can also pick up a fair assortment of local wine, beer, and ciders to enjoy with your cheese too. When in Wisconsin, eat a ton of cheese! read more

My husband jokes that he's a cheese connoisseur and sent me in to this store to pick out a few cheeses - we had a new puppy in the car and he stayed in the parking lot with her. I, on the other hand, am not a cheese connoisseur, so I picked out a few cheeses I thought he might like. The owner gave me a few samples and I quickly put back what I had selected and bought a 5 year old cheddar and a 7 year old gouda. OMG - they were both great, but the gouda is the best we have ever tasted anywhere! We will be contacting the shop to see if they will ship - if not, we'll have to drive up to Door County soon to get some more. We stopped in looking for some locally made cheese and were not disappointed. They have a large selection of their own cheeses as well as cheese made elsewhere. It was hard to decide and I honestly forget now what we ended up selecting, but it was delicious and went well with the local beers also on sale here by the bottle for $2 each. They also had a nice selection of charcuterie. Somehow we missed that they do tastings and tours. We were there early in the season, so maybe this gets rolling once more tourists arrive. In any case, this is a great place to pick up some fabulous cheese! read more

Top notch! I had a blast on the tour they gave. It was pretty cool to see how they make their signature cheese. Very knowledgeable employees and I should say, very passionate personalities as well. I suppose you should be if you are trying to be the best here in Wisconsin :) We were very lucky to have made it in time for the fresh cheese curds, so definitely try to come early in the morning so that you do not miss them. I hear they sell out of them pretty quick... Staff: Super knowledgeable and friendly as I mentioned before. Environment: Very clean and well kept. They do take pride in their appearance and want to ensure folks are kept safe. Covid Protocols: Most folks were masks, but all employees working on the cheese wore masks. Lovely premium cheese store in Door County which has a huge cheese and wine selection, offers free cheese and wine tastings and also a quick 15 min cheese factory tour downstairs.. They are truly the cheese champions and you can taste the flavors in every bite.. Their Valmy is a personal favourite along with the pepper jack and we also loved their mushroom brie.. Their cheese is slightly on the expensive side and we paid a lot more here as compared to another renowned cheese store near by but I am not complaining cos it was delicious unique cheese flavors.. We spent more than an hour tasting and picking cheese and wine for our group.. their cheese curds were nice and fresh too.. Will go back again to get their Valmy for sure.. read more

I wanted to come back and update my review since I have been here two more times since my initial visit. My family came back this July while camping nearby. We were happy to see that they were enforcing mask wearing. Not only were they enforcing it but they were asking people to fix their mask - something I haven't seen any other place do! The second time I came this summer it was very busy. I was happy to see that they had set a limit on how many people were allowed in at the time. While I was in the store there was no rush to get in and out, just the same great service. P They are doing samples even during the pandemic but in a more hygienic way. I really appreciate the precautions they are taking and we will continue to come back on each trip to Door County. read more

Richard, the new owner, was fantastic and showed us around the cheese making facility and the cheese caves. He gave us many samples, and was clearly passionate about the cheese making process. The top hat cheddar and the cupola cheeses were both awesome, and the cheddar bread was delightful. The menu at their restaurant was recently changed to be cheese focused - cheese curd trio called curd nerds was delightful! Best cheese curds and among the best cheese I have ever had, and I have had a lot of cheese. Better than Renard's by a long shot, I hope they expand and put their product in more local stores. read more

We stopped by here just by chance and had a wonderful time! We met Richard, who showed us all around the cheese shop and the cheese cave. Ask for him to do the same for you. Then we went outside to their new restaurant terrace, overlooking a beautiful fountain and the forest. Had many different plates with all of their wonderful cheeses. Zomg! Cheese! A cheese cave! While I was sampling, I asked about the cave and luckily got to go right into a tour with the master cheesemaker, aka, my new bff. He showed us the goods and answered all our questions about cheese making and what rinds could/should be eaten and so forth (spoiler: rinds are actually just the cheese but dried out and often with a wash of some sort so generally eat it up!). A very down to earth Wisconsonian! Well suited and trained for this cheesy job. After the tour he helped us to pick out 3 cheeses for a plate and also suggested some cured meats that would compliment them and got us samples. I have never bought a more beautifully or carefully wrapped deli meat selection! If I was having some sort of awesome cocktail party and I wanted a charcuterie board, I'd stop in to see the folks here to help me plan, or better yet, just invite them to party and hope they bring their awesome handmade cheeses, etc... They sell nice wines and liquor too but I always bmob (bring my own booze) so didn't need that aspect of their services. Stop in even though it seems touristy; so worth it! Be a tourist in the beautiful, stinky land of cheese and eat your way back out to the real world a happier and more chees-ucated human. read more

This is an essential stop in Door County. First, it's a cheese making operation in Wisconsin, you gotta do it. Second, world class, internationally award winning cheeses are made here. Third, the place is beautiful, it was built in 2017 and includes a complete cheese making operation which is open for tours, and a restaurant. Fourth, there are lots of beautiful cheeses and charcuterie to try, and the employees are kind and generous. And last, and best, the master cheese maker, Mike, was available to give us a tour of the process he loves, he was an entertaining, educating, and gracious host. read more

New cheese shop in town, I love my cheese! Beautiful building, friendly workers. Not much happening when we were there behind the scenes. I didn't see to much of their own cheese, just other companies cheeses. The samples were covered by napkins, so you did not know they were there. Maybe because of all the flies. But, I'm sure that is because they are new. I didn't notice they have a sit down area also. I'd go back to check it out again. read more

Ordered our food from the parking lot because of Covid. They delivered our food to our car. They said 20 minutes but it was out before that We felt very safe! They hanger steak was delightful! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Having my items SLAMMED into a bag and my receipt LITERALLY thrown at me as the woman behind the counter says "HERE" is unacceptable under any circumstance, and not understanding the computer system is most definitely NOT an excuse! I patiently waited as an employee lectured a child about it being ok to not like cheese but still needing to show gratitude for free samples, and then still as another woman was being shuffled from register to register because they didn't know what to do with someone wanting to pay cash, but being barked at and having my items thrown at me was unacceptable. Properly train your staff in customer service and how to handle difficult situations. What a mess! I will not be going back even if the cheese is delicious. I was excited to check out a new cheese place in Door County. It's nice to know that some of the cheese is made right there. (You can watch the cheese makers behind glass and ask them questions by pushing a button). It wasn't clear how things worked when we walked in. We eventually discovered that there were samples available, but the woman working there didn't give us any directions or explanations. They had wine for sale and what looked to be a bar for tasting or purchasing a glass of wine, but again no direction was given. We purchased some cheese and after my friend said she liked a certain type of cheese, the woman checking is our offered us an additional sample which was appreciated. Overall, the cheese was good but we didn't get the "experience" we were looking for. read more

C and I read about Door Artisan Cheese Co. at some point this past winter and made a point to check it out once it opened. We anticipated something different; something homespun (think Schartner's). We were disappointed that the dominant feature is a massive asphalt parking lot. The smell of fresh asphalt assaulted us as we exited the car. We were, I have to admit, dubious. Inside, however, a throng of customers lined up at tasting points. The overall ambiance reminded me of a Whole Foods. We tried everything being offered, including the wines at the rear of the store. The cheeses come from all over and every single one was excellent. We bought several. The very friendly cheesemaker/owner walked about, striking up conversations with customers about cheese and cheese making. Large windows within the store provide views into the adjoining cheese making factory. Lastly we strolled over to the adjoining restaurant, for a peek, but we already had our lunch, so we'll have to try it another time. Considering the wide selection of cheeses, Door Artisan Cheese Co. will give other shops in the area a run for their money. read more

We watched Door Artisan Cheese as they built from the ground up this past year, and it has been worth the wait. The cheeses and samples are so tasty and unique, the staff is friendly and answered all our questions about their cheeses, and we had a tour of the cheese cave below the shop. Best of all, we came home with two bags of fresh cheese curds made that very day! They even squeaked, which was a good thing. So yummy! Don't miss it when you head north out of Egg Harbor. I would love to leave a review of the cheese, but we only tried about 4 samples before overhearing a comment by the clerk behind the counter about my appearance that made us leave. I had a sundress and cardigan on, which showed some cleavage, and when we approached the counter for a sample, an older woman looked up at us, nudged the younger girl next to her to turn around and look, then they both proceeded to watch me as we tried another sample in front of them without saying a word, and as we walked away, the older woman retorted about how I "should have more decency". We walked back around the corner and my significant other approached the counter and she quickly looked away and down at her phone and refused to look at him as he stood there for a moment. We left after that. Very disappointed in this grown woman's behavior, my children have better manners. read more

Door Artisan Cheese is such an amazing little shop. We were treated wonderfully by all the staff in there. From the ladies at the meat counter and the cheese counter to the man at the back of the store with the wine and beer tastings. Even the cashier was very nice. Everyone is very knowledgeable about what the wines we we're tasting paired well with. They also were happy to tell us about the qualities of tye cheeses we picked out and what they would be best used for. They're nice enough to let us taste any cheese in the case we found intriguing. They even grabbed cheeses from the back room when we said we were interested in a pepper jack cheese. They were happy to have us sample their cured meats and happily poured us tastings of their wines from all over the world. They have a great selection of local and international wines, cheeses, and meats. We stopped in a second time during our visit to grab more things after falling in live with the store and everyone was so happy to see us again. Telling us welcome back and they were happy to see us back in the store again. This store is definitely worth the stop! We are excited to try the restaurant next door as well.
