    Classic candy choices!

Pretty good place to visit! It's definitely one of those shops where their treat displays are far more encompassing than anything else. You will be like "I want this and that and ohhhh for sure that", by the time you are done -- you'll be like all this $$ for a few pieces of goodness?! Yes, its worth it! Very rich and savory flavors which is my kind of treat. The Staff: Very welcoming and was willing to help us tourist learn about their process and the history of this establishment. Environment: Pretty clean and nothing major to report here Covid measures: When we went, no one was masked but those in the back making the treats were masked (as far I saw). Perhaps, I would suggest that they mask up while working with consumables? maybe? LOL All in all, its a great place to visit while in Door County. Thanks for making our experience great :)

Amazing fudge! Chocolate and ice cream was great here too. Service was very friendly and they offered samples of the fudge, but no samples for the ice cream. Chocolates were about $32/pound, but that excludes truffles which are $3.50ea. Ice cream scoop in a cake cone is $5.95, but at least the scoop is generous. I really enjoyed the peach cobbler ice cream! Sea salt caramel fudge is the most popular fudge and was fantastic, and the best chocolate I tried was the coconut cream, but the most popular chocolate candy is the best claw which contains peacons, caramel, and a choice of either milk or dark chocolate. This store also makes their own large peanut butter cups, but not the small ones. Besides all the chocolate and ice cream, they also make their own popcorn, chocolate pretzels, and wide assortments of taffy. But don't forget all the classic candies they sell like the candy cigarette classics!

Don't waste your time. None of the items in the store are price marked, and once you get to the register you realize everything is 4x as expensive as any other store. I understand it is a resort town, but the prices are absolutely crazy. 7.50 for a scoop of ice cream? You can go to Not Licked yet and get a sundae for cheaper. The fudge is also ridiculously priced. The poor young girls in front of me had a total of 56.00 and had to put most of their items back. Overall, skip this place any go literally anywhere else.

This place has ALL the candy! I'm talking serious sensory overload. When I walked in, I just smiled. I didn't know where to start, so I just started wandering and kept my head on a swivel, so I wouldn't miss anything even though I'm sure I probably still did. I left there with truffles, a peanut butter cup, and dark chocolate dipped bacon. Some candy is priced individually and some are priced by the pound. They also sell popcorn and Cedar Crest ice cream, but candy is where it's at. A friend in our group bought candied crickets. They were real crickets in a box and they were flavored! I didn't try them because I was sober, and I didn't know the chef who made them. I have SOME standards. Check 'em out!

We took the family on a drive today to get everyone out of the house. We ended up in Door County and decided to stop here for a treat. Everyone was super friendly, and the service was wonderful. The ice cream was delicious and really hit the spot. I would've given it five stars if it hadn't been $10 for a double scoop in a waffle cone. Ouch. Although, I guest that's the cost of tourism, especially during a pandemic. Masks are appreciated but not required at this establishment, and we chose to respect their request.

Awesome candy store reminded me of candy stores of my youth. Staff is always friendly and the chocolate and other treats are great.

The old fashioned ice cream counter would be fun to enjoy during warmer months, it was somewhat cold outside, so we settled on a few to-go treats instead. We purchased a couple different items including some chocolates, caramels and the sleeper pick of all the items - homemade hot cocoa mix. The mix is basically leftover chocolate shavings and makes for a delicious cup of hot chocolate. They also offer a ton of molded chocolates. Dinosaurs, flowers, race cars, animals, shapes, holiday items, etc. A variety of prices and sizes and in different chocolate types. The chocolate used in the shapes is a creamy, high quality one. Fun pit stop before heading home for the day.

A friend of mine was going to Oshkosh so I asked him to get me a variety of chocolates. I asked him…read moreto get me three pounds. I live about 200 miles away, but he's from Milwaukee so it made sense and I appreciate it. Anyway, it was the end of the season so they were only selling pre-boxed creams and nuts inn1 lb. boxes. These were the best chocolates I've ever had. Not a bad one in any of the boxes. No pinks, or oranges, or lemons. Just the ones I love. Maple creams, coconut, vanilla, chocolate and then the nutty ones were fabulous. I like dark chocolate over milk chocolate but both were really good. I plan to visit Oshkosh in the next several weeks (for the first time), so I will definitely stop in at Hughes for a few pounds. I may actually get more than 3 lbs. because they freeze real well for future delights. I'm not sure what else there is to do in Oshkosh, but Hughes is gonna be on the list for sure.

I'm sorry to have to update my review and lower my rating. Their chocolates are top notch.I…read moreappreciate that this family run business is still here, after decades. My family has been going there for since I was a young child; I won't say how many decades. I may be ending a long-standing tradition of making the annual family pilgrimage to Hughes. I feel that success has gone a bit to their heads, and they are a bit "pissy." I am rating them at a three for now, since their chocolate is undeniably fantastic, and I am also considering that perhaps they are stretched thinly. We all have our breaking point. Last year I think I spent $800 there, less than the year before--specifically because they were out of stock on many of the items I wanted. I was partially to blame, because I had waited too long. But not this year. I called today to pre-pay for some chocolates so that I wouldn't make the drive for nothing, and so that I could avoid the congested basement and be on my way. I figured on buying 25-40 pounds this year, depending on what they had. To their credit, they answered the phone. But I was told that I would need to commit to 75 pounds before they would consider taking a prepaid phone order. They aren't open on Sunday, so I was told I'd need to visit in the next couple days if I wanted toffees before they sold out. "First come first serve." I kind of get it, but I kind of don't. $500-$800 isn't enough for them to bother with me--message received. Yeah, this is the second year in a row I sensed their attitude is overly confident to the point where they no longer have to be friendly. At all. About five years back, I called to inquire if they offered any type of corporate program discount for people sending their chocolates as client gifts. I send out 240+ boxes to my clients each year during the holidays. I was cut off mid sentence by the guy who took the call, and it was clear they were not interested in anything like that. So I went somewhere else. This year, I don't think I'm even going to make the trip for family gifts. So...Hello Oaks Candies, my friend. You're a bit more expensive, but your chocolate is equally as good, you're open on Sundays, and I don't get the arrogant attitude from you.
