I have been contacted by the actual owner of Uncle Tom's as well as a detective from Door County who informed that Ryan is currently under investigation for fraudulent charges. It turns out that all of the excuses he gave me, including mourning the death of his father, were his way to attempt to pacify me in the hopes that I would finally give up. Rebecca, the owner, after discovering what was happening, is extremely apologetic and has sent me a refund of the overcharge. While I feel badly for Rebecca as she's dealing with this headache, I am happy to again recommend and order from the shop. Their brittles are the best! read more

We love Uncle Tom's. A delightful young couple own it now, and are so welcoming and friendly. We live in the area, and it's a regular, "must do" stop for family when they come to visit. Had to try this place after a lovely hike at Europe Lake! Following COVID precautions very well with arrows, social distancing signs, masks, and the store set up in the garage! Had a wonderful chat with the kind employee and she gave me a small bag of delicious popcorn with my purchase. I got the mint fudge to go and was very pleased when I opened it to find a small knife and the fudge divided out for sharable portions. read more

This little shop sold us lingonberry jam that was expiring within the month, which we didn't realize until we got home from vaca. We love to support small businesses but come on, don't sell me last years (or the year befores) product at full price, not disclose it and then rush my purchase interaction when there's only one other customer in the outdoor pandemic-compliant line. The jam is good but unfortunately I don't think we'll be able to finish it in time. read more

As a kid I would visit Uncle Tom's with my family. We stopped in today, on my now 40th birthday, and had the best experience. Everything is exactly as I remember it from when I was a little girl. We were greeted by the sweetest young woman, Rebecca, whom I learned is the new owner. She wore the loveliest smile even whilst my crazy 2 year old daughter was running through her shop. I learned that her and her fiance bought the shop recently, what a great story of a woman-owned business through generations. Uncle Tom was a big supporter of women and it's wonderful to see the shop continue on with great new owners. We bought a bunch of treats and they are exactly as they were 35-40 years ago...DELICIOUS! So wonderful to bring my daughter here now a mommy myself. I can't recommend this rad women-owned business enough! Please support them and tell your friends! read more

We stopped by this former schoolhouse (early 1900s) turned candy store on a whim while on a road trip in Door County. I didn't notice all of the samples right away, but once I did, I was hooked on the Oreo bark, and I admit to snagging more than one sample. We also tried the home made peanut brittle and were fans, so we took a bag of that home. We've been snacking on it off and on for the last few weeks, and as far as I can recall it's the best peanut brittle I've ever had! It has a nice amount of peanut butter-iness in the brittle, and a nice balance of saltiness as well. No bland brittle here. In the building there's also a room with some Gills Rock history and history of the family who owns the store. If you like brittles and barks, want to stretch your legs or just snag some candy samples, make a stop in, but I will for sure be putting Uncle Tom's on my regular stops when I visit Door County. read more

This is such an interesting shop...full of knick knacks and all sorts of unique things! And that's just in the lobby! Walk downstairs into Uncle Tom's and you're definitely transported into another time! We stuck to the brittle and pancake mix, but there are plenty of options for everyone! There's also free popcorn! Fun and delicious little stop! They make most of their own candy on site- lots of nut brittles and candy barks, but also fudge and other chocolates. Several things to sample, free popcorn to munch while you browse. Very friendly service. Nice quiet location out of town with its own parking. The building is adorable with some historic detail. read more

5 stars for their fudge. Only reason I go! It's a cute, quaint old schoolhouse in which the candy store is in the basement. There's a small selection of sweets and pancake mixes but get the fudge! It's simply the best. I wish they had a fudge counter where they fresh cut it and packages it for you. We tried a sample of the bacon brittle during our last visit. Don't do it. I get the sweet-salty bacon trend but this didn't translate well. Greasy, hard brittle that was inedible. read more

A visit to Door Couty wouldn't be complete with out a stop at Uncle Tom's to stock up once again. Love the "barks" especially the Dark Chocalte/Cherry, and the peanut brittle is the best I've ever had. Not to mention the fudge. If you have not been to Uncle Tom's Candies in your visit to Door County, you must stop at least once. It is a little of the beaten path, but well worth the drive off the main highway. Uncle Tom was known for his pancake mix, but now for the candies. The shop is in the basement of an old school house and is part shop and part museum. Have a taste and you will want more. read more

wow. i use to hate peanut brittle with a passion. not that i don't have an appreciation for confectionary products, but the stuff I was introduced to early on as a kid, and even as a young adult, did not mesh with my taste buds. however, we just recently purchased a bag of peanut brittle from Uncle Tom's and it's completely changed my perception of candy freshness and quality. the main reason why i hate(d) peanut brittle was how hard it can be -- the stuff i've tried before were super hard - so much so, I often felt like biting into it would subject one's self to major risk of teeth breakage. however, the stuff that uncle tom provides is simple to bite into, you really taste the peanuts, and it's not overly sugary. It just strikes that beautiful blend of sweetness with a bit of roasted peanut to balance it out. Did I mention the price? For 0.5 pound, it's just $3.75 -- a ridiculous bargain in today's market. Their stuff is sold in many of the markets along the main drag through Door County, in case you're unable to take the side trip to Uncle Tom's (we got ours from a boutique in Gill's Rock) It's definitely worth stocking up while you're in DC, or call and order their products online through their website. Makes for a great housewarming, hostess gifts, and having at the house for when you need a quick fix for your sweet tooth. read more

Stopped at the school at the last minute cause it was off the beaten path. Wow, was the best cashew brittle I ever had. Beats anything on Mackinac Island or in Wisconsin Dells. Prices were refreshing for Door County. Only regret was I didn't buy more and try other goodies. read more

Uncle Toms makes rhe best brittle I've ever had, comes in peanut, cashew and pecan varieties. It's so buttery and salty good! Plus the sweet owner usually has free popcorn for visitors if you get there at the right time. The place has some neat antiques including a collection of police and fire patches from WI and IL. Best candy store in Door hands down. Always fresh and always friendly. We have a home about 5 minutes away and Heather and her helper( sorry, never asked her name but has always been more than friendly to an Illinois escapist.)
