I didn't grow up knowing Cheddar's, it wasn't really until my sister told me about it a while back as a place for a family gathering that I learned about it, and before doing any research, just thought about this being a place where its dishes mainly revolves around cheddar cheese (ok, ok, can you blame a guy who likes to take things a bit too literal?) So once we tried it, we grew to enjoy it quite a bit. It does serve quite a bit of comfort food classics that we would enjoy all the time. Although it does have some feels of Applebee's, Friday's, or Chili's to it, something about it just kind of sets it apart. Something we have became accustomed to order is their chicken tenders. Guilty pleasure dish for us because of the breading on the chicken. We love Raising Cane's chicken strips, and would say the chicken tenders at Cheddar's are pretty evening matched in terms of flavoring and taste, in our opinion. During our most recent trip, on a Sunday 2/11 where it is 39 degrees out in Sugar Land, if you have a line waiting to be seated during dinner time, you must be doing something right because other people will probably not wait that long. We had to wait a bit, but we just used the time to look at the menu so we know what to get right away. There were times when the service was a bit unsatisfactory at Cheddar's, but not even the bus tray accidentally left behind sitting in the seat cushion of the booth where we were assigned was going to dampen my mood. Although it might have if I had to stand there longer than I did with my coat in one arm and my 2-year old in the other, but I'll just chalk this one up to a random occurrence. The cushion was quickly wiped down and we were seated and pretty much ordered right away. We got our usual chicken tenders, my wife ordered the grilled white fish, and I got the chicken pot pie. On a cold weather such as this, a hearty chicken pot pie really hits the spot, plus it wasn't too salty, tasted just right. The chicken tortilla soup was a bit on the saltier side, so the waitress quickly switched me a bowl of the country potato soup, which tasted much better. I had to dock one star because, way back before Cheddar's got the Scratch Kitchen name, it had a menu item that I always get, the Shepherd's Pie. I would deem a well-made Shepherd's Pie my top tier comfort food. But one day a few years back, I just realized they have taken it away from the menu.... It just vanished without a trace or explanation. Whenever I asked about it, most of the wait staff now didn't work there long enough to know there was once a great entrée that tasted great and really, really, really needed to make a come back, it'll definitely get me to come more, that's for sure. read more

My family and I came here to celebrate my little sisters birthday last Saturday night since she's never had their amazing honey butter croissants! My boyfriend and I arrived around 8:00pm and there was a 30-45 minute which was fine since my family were running late and that gave them enough time so we went to the bar to enjoy a couple drinks while waiting. To my surprise they buzzed our buzzer after 20 minutes and were seated at our big table for a party of 6 in the back. Our server was Eduardo G. and he was by far one of the laziest server I've encountered in awhile. He would get other servers to take our order and do everything else for us until the bill came. I was thinking that because we were a larger party so it was automatic gratuity, but when our check came out there was no added gratuity. That was confirmation that he should be retrained or maybe not handle larger parties. All the tables around us orders weren't correct and we were literally just all shaking our heads to one another, he would only attended to us after you start looking around looking for some service, and doing things like bringing out salad our first and asking what dressing we would like with it after waiting for it for 20 minutes? The food at cheddars is consistent here, but their service is just horrible! They get one star for their new incentive of 1 free honey butter croissant per customer. read more

The food we got was not good. My friend has been here before and she has gotten this meal before and it has never tasted this bad. Macaroni and cheese had no bread crumbs on top (it usually does). I was very happy with Cheddar's. They serve large tasty portions , and the wait staff is very accommodating. Brian was our waiter, and he was friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken tender wrap, the grilled version; it was delicious. Even my ten year. old. said"Cheddar's is being put as her favorite restaurants ". Cheddar's is our go to spot for any time we want good food with good company! Honestly, anything that we order from here always turns out good! I personally get the creamy garlic tilapia & shrimp with mashed potatoes and it's AMAZING. So much flavor. And a good amount of food! I always have leftovers. This review is for the tender family dinner to go. It was The tenders were either reheated or over cooked and they are so tiny. The broccoli rice and cheese was watery and did not have the same flavor. Some of the croissants were under cooked. The only thing that tasted the same was the ranch. If you want to fall in love with Cheddars try the Webster location. The tender family dinner is about $25.99 at the time of this review. We ordered the same thing at the Webster location earlier this week for curbside and it was amazing! read more

Enjoyed the food and thought the service was pretty spot on. The wait to get in wasn't so bad and our waiter was excellent! He was very accommodating and easily a hard worker. My only suggestion is that the upkeep on the bathrooms really sucked. The men's bathroom had what was essentially pee all over the floor, with no one there to clean it and no wet sign and anyone could've slipped. The women's restroom had mostly toilet paper free stalls, no upkeep to their tampon dispensaries and they had no seat covers. Very disgusting honestly. But the food and service was very good. So I don't discount them for that, but they could do A LOT better with those restrooms. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. My husband and I came in earlier, we were seated right away - the hostess was very pleasant - and the server wasn't too far behind. Hubby ordered the Monte Cristo and I ordered the bourbon glazed salmon. It was soooo good! I have the tendency to be a little picky in regards to salmon but this was amazing! I was in the Sugarland area and decided to stop Cheddars on Saturday 7:30pm. There was only a 5 minute wait and we were able to get a table early on a busy night. Cheddars has alway been one of my favorite places to eat decent and affordable food. I was able to tried a variety of dishes. These are how i grade my choices today : Good choices: The sweet crossaints . The location of the restaurant. The service and atmosphere was good. The cleanliness of the restaurant and restroom. Solid choices: The red beans and rice, top sirloin , the bake potatoe , the spinach dip , the price of the food and the parking. Average choices: The barbecue pork ribs and the red fish was not what i expected. Great service and fast wait staff while at the bar. The food is great and has a down home feel. Highly recommend for comfort food.

To me, restaurants should have the minimum standards of sanitation. I quit going to many chain restaurants for that reason and to name one for example, cheese cake factory. This place, Cheddar's, might be heading this way. Oily seats and tables, stinky oily menus. The servants however, are very sweet, which could make up for negative issues. In one visit, I found one hair in the salad, chips mixed with other food which makes one think that the food is recycled. Prices are very reasonable but again, if i want to go to a restaurant I'm gonna have to expect some sanitation standards. Unless the food is exceptional i might make attempt and turn blind eye. I don't want to bash businesses, but for people like me who care about this stuff, be in the know, for those who don't really care much, the place is not bad and food is tasty. We have tried the chicken fried chicken, most of the salads and burgers and a couple of steaks. The food is not bad, but just ordinary. Nothing special. The Honey-Butter Croissants are neither savory nor sweet, like they couldn't decide which direction to go. The service is friendly but inattentive. Wow, the reviews for this place aren't great but I definitely enjoyed myself here. I think this is a great affordable place for get togethers if you're a teen / young adult because the atmosphere is sophisticated but the dishes are so affordable for what you get!!! We ordered the Santa Fe chips and dip which were tasty (a little indulgent) but not worth $6. As for the entrees, I got the tilapia with shrimp and mango salsa and it came with 2 sides- I found this extremely cheap and the quality of the seafood was great!! I am amazed at how affordable it was, I wish there was a good Cheddar's in my area. I also tried the ribs-- also super affordable for what you are getting. The ribs were cooked perfectly as they slid off the bone. I'm getting hungry just writing it. The service was also really good- my friend wanted a casserole as one of the sides (even though not listed in the menu) and the waiter agreed but he never served it. When we mentioned how it was missing, he was quick to bring it out! Fast and friendly service. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 2 pm and it was packed- there was a long line. Highly dissatisfied with the service and food. Asked for an order of croissants about 3 times and never got any. Waited around 45 for our food and our steaks were more raw than we asked for. Ordered a steak medium rare and it came out almost raw with the steak extremely difficult to cut due to there still being a lot of uncooked fat. It was extremely rowdy to the point where I couldn't even hear my girlfriend sitting across from me in the booth. I'm sure the right side would have been normal. Food (3) - The food here is awesome every time I come. Packed full of flavor and really hits the spot. However, this time when I came, a hair was revealed towards the bottom of my pasta. I really hope this never happens again. I've been here about 6 times and have never seen that before. Price Efficiency (4) - The prices when they first opened were amazing. They are still pretty good for the amount of food that you receive. However, the price of the honey butter croissants have increased and so no 5 anymore. Service (3) - Given that I had hair in my food, the server comp'ed my entree, which was good. The server was courteous and attentive. However, right at the next table, the folks had apparently waited a long time and their order was lost in the busy-ness of Saturday night, but they were comp'ed as well. OVERALL (3) - I normally love coming to Cheddar's, but that night must have been planets colliding or something. It's a nice place to bring a date, bring the family and is extremely affordable. I think the quality of this Cheddar's is not as great as it was when it first started. Coming here on a Tuesday with my friend, we find that there weren't a lot of customers when we first walk in. We weren't even greeted by anyone since there was no one in front at the hostess stand, and we waited for a little bit until the hostess came and seated us. Usually at Cheddar's, I always get the lemon pepper chicken with two sides and the croissant, so I got the same this time. The lemon pepper chicken was a bit dry and hard, and it came with very little rice. As I am not raving about carbs, I'm totally ok with that but for people whom are not, they may want more rice then what is served. For my sides, I got the mash potatoes with gravy and broccoli cheese casserole, which were both ok, but not memorable. I also got a side Caesars salad as an add-on to the entree. The salad plate was cold, and it was bland, and usually Caesars salads can not go wrong. I can barely taste the cheese and dressing, and I did not finish it. The only good thing about it was that the salad came with one croissant. The cookie monster tasted good for dessert but I think it was not heated properly as I felt the cookie bottom was kind of cold in some bites. I think the best taste of the night was the croissant. The restaurant had good interior design and comfortable dining environment, but the food is quite below average to just average. This occurred no more than 2 hours ago. Rude hostess told a young man to sit my sister and I in what could only be the employee break area. Waiters and waitresses flooded in and out of the little niche where our booth was. They gawked at us as we tried to talk about work, as if we'd chosen this area on our own! As my daughter and I walked in the door the hostess walked away and we stood there waiting for them to return to be greeted/seated. We were seated in the far back side of the restaurant with our menus and left there waiting for approximately 10 minutes without a server ever coming to our table. We got up left and noticed the large amount of staff (mostly teens/young adults) and no one even noticed we left. I stopped and told the hostess we were leaving and it was like talking to a wall. The only reason why I gave it two stars was because on the third time, the waitress was actually nice and my grandparents enjoyed the salad and honey croissants. The other times, service was terrible. Once I had to wait 45 minutes for food. The waitress didn't tell us until 25 minutes or so in that they didn't have what I originally ordered so we had to pick something else. At least the food was good? First off I get it we are in the time of COVID and for that reason I don't go out to each very much anymore but when I do I expect better service at a dine in spot. Qiara was our waitress not friendly forgot our drinks my husbands salad came out before we got out ice tea and water which I had to get up and go to the bar and ask for. I could understand if they were busy but there was literally NO ONE ELSE in our section the other couple left about 5 mins after we got there. we got our food and she dropped it and walked off. Never came back to ask if everything was okay or even asked if we needed anything else. FORGET about refills cause that wasn't going to happen. Once she saw we were finished with our meals she just dropped the tab and took our plates never once again asked if we wanted anything else. Never was thanked for coming in, apologetic for the bar having to find someone to bring out drinks. Long Review: This was our first time visiting a Cheddars. We have been interested for some time because of how full they always are. We walked in and got even more impressed with the atmosphere and prices! Then it all went downhill. Our server came over and we placed our drink order. Then maybe 10-20 minutes went by before we got half our drinks. Then another 5 went by before our bar drinks arrived. During this time, it was weird. All of the servers disappeared in the entire restaurant for around 10 minutes. There was maybe one busser and the host and no one else! When we finally got our food, it was cold. It was a really sad situation. We expected to become lifers when we sat down and just left completely disappointed. No excuse for poor service, cold food and watered down drinks. I went to this cheddars tonight and this will be my last time. The food was cold, so we asked for another dish. Then when the food was brought a second time there was hair inside of it. Having hair in your food is one of the worst situations a customer can encounter while dining at a restaurant. I was so upset, I did not ask to speak to a manager, we just told our waitress and walked out. Plain and simply delicious. I love that this place is so cheap but the ambiance makes you feel like you are paying for more. Lets face it when you walk into a Applebees or TGI Fridays you know your in for cheap food, half ass service, and a processed stomach ache. I am so impressed with the options they have on the menu and lets talk about how cheap the cocktails are!! I ordered Grilled fish with Broc.Cass and rice. Very fresh and seasoned perfectly. Those croissants are beyond dangerous and should be banned from Texas. They are by far the best croissants I have ever had in my life and that includes Paris. That honey butter is crack. Our server was great and I would have given another star but it took forever to get our hand shaken margaritas. But when we got them they were strong and balanced and cheap!! I would love to sit down with an upper management person in charge of this chain. The individual restaurants seem so have similar problems with each other. The main problem...Staffing!!! I visited this location a couple of days ago at about 5:15PM on a weekday. The restaurant was quiet and we were seated very quickly. We looked at our menus and waited for our server...and we waited...and waited some more while the wait staff socialized in a huddle at the front desk. Several wait staff walked by and didn't even acknowledge our presence. We waited 10 minutes and then decided to leave. As we walked out the door, a waiter thanked us for coming by. Great food however service is kind of slow, so if you're an impatient person I wouldn't prefer coming here on a busy night. My boyfriend, my son and I came here on a Thursday night and we waited for 10 minutes to get sat which we didn't mind. However a few customers were frustrated because the restaurant had a lot of tables available and complained, I overheard a manager talking to one of the complained guest and was professional in trying to get everyone situated and happy. The manager did specify their was only 4 server and 4 other servers had called in, the lady didn't understand and kept hassling for those empty tables...she must've wanted bad service bc how many tables can one waiter handle? Some people aren't logical and understanding. My son loves their strawberry lemonade, they put fresh strawberries in there and he got the kids grilled chicken with rice and French fries, the chicken was so good that my boyfriend and I were amazed! My boyfriend got the ribs and steak with mash potatoes and fries, the steak was cooked to perfection and had a lot of flavor and the ribs was very tender! I had gotten the sweet heat chicken and shrimp, it's sweet, mango flavor and spicy. It comes with rice and salad, it was perfected! Cheddars is a great place for family meals at a reasonable price. They serve your run of the mill menu items you would expect at a similar restaurant like Chili's. Unlike Chili's though, Cheddars has good food. I tried this restaurant today because I had gotten a coupon in the mail advertising a free 5 piece chicken tenders with the purchase of an entree. The chicken tenders themselves were fresh out of the frier and very moist; some of the best I have had recently. I would place them just a notch below the golden standard of Raising Cane's. If anything, they are slightly underseasoned, but that problem is easily fixed with dipping sauces. I ordered the smokehouse burger for dinner, and it was not bad. The toppings were as advertised on the menu and well executed. Not one of the best hamburgers I have ever had, but easily better than competing similar restaurants'. The fries that came with the burger were fresh and satisfied the job of a pleasing side dish. I also managed to sample the salmon and redfish, both of which were solid. The salmon was honestly some of the most well cooked salmon I have had in a restaurant around Sugar Land at the price point, as many other places seem to overcook their fish beyond the point of no return. One thing I was pleasantly surprised by was the lighter use of salt at this restaurant. Too many times at other competing restaurants have I been served food thay was too salty to eat without a full two glasses of water, but here the food was seasoned with restraint, and at times almost too much so. Overall though, I'm giving Cheddars this 5 star rating because they serve solid food at a great price, and to boost an unfairly low yelp rating. read more
