This is really a trip back to yesteryear. To be able to sit at a soda fountain and have soda jerks serve you is a pleasure and in this particular case, it really is rather pleasant to look out the window and see trains passing by a reminder of yesterday year. In our particular case we had milkshakes and frankly the serving is absolutely wonderful and the flavor in my case of chocolate malt was absolutely incredible. The servers are really quite lovely people. Very efficient. Very pleasant to deal with the service and ambience make this restaurant well worth visiting however, I must tell you if you have a sweet tooth then you have every reason to make a trip here. Beautiful reno but no longer making any accomodations for allergies--request for a clean pan/cooking utensils to make it safe from cross contamination was denied, so we had to leave. My family and I were reading the reviews and visiting Rosenberg, we had to try it out! Unfortunately, we had a different experience when coming here in comparison to the last few reviews. I really hate to leave anything less than a 4 star, but I'm going off of my experience. There was only 3 other tables seated when we came in and most were already eating. We were very excited as the food looked great. I ordered the chicken BLT wrap, my mom ordered the regular BLT and my dad ordered the hot pastrami sandwich. I decided to get the side house with honey mustard, my dad ordered the Cesar salad and my mom got their home style fries. We waited on our sandwiches for over 40 minutes. Alas, our food finally comes! Although, my chicken was very burnt and dry. Their honey mustard was just not good. I couldn't eat the entire thing. My mom's BLT had bacon that was just only soggy fat and the fries were super soggy. My dad liked the Cesar salad but said the jalapeño aoli tasted like thousand island. Almost sweet! Altogether, we were super disappointed by our lunch we were so looking forward to. The place is all around an awesome vibe. Located walking distance from the railroad museum. This place definitely has a great wholesome feel with awesome character. I just wish the food matched. read more

Kevin was AMAZING!!! He was super helpful and gave us really good recommendations that made the experience even better. Even though it was Easter Sunday and really busy, he kept such a great attitude the whole time. Honestly, it was some of the best service I've had in a while. Sunday Brunch is pretty packed at this quaint little spot in Rosenberg. And for good reason. The food is really good, great portions, and wonderful service. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, so they took our phone # and texted us when we should return. It gave us ample time to check out some of the antique shops in the area. Note that if you don't like sharing tables with people, this place may not be your cup of tea, since they do have patrons share the large tables "family style" to accommodate all the guests. I had the philly cheesesteak and fries. They cut all the fries in house from real potatoes! Go figure.... not frozen fries. Sadly we use to love coming here, however it's just too packed inside now. Every-time we wanted to leave the table people would have to get up or move their chairs, which was awful. My husband got the eggs Benedict and it was cold, but since we were some uncomfortable at the table we didn't even want to say anything. We just wanted to get done with our dining experience because there was nothing comfortable about the seating. Super sad I had to give this review. read more

The Ol Railroad Cafe offers phone in service for pick up orders, but on May 18, 2025 the service shut down. Since I wanted soup, I decided to get in my vehicle and drive to the Rosenberg Tx location. As I walked through the door other customer were walking out! The dining room was full of diners enjoying their meals. The hostess walked over, greeted me and explained that the kitchen was short staffed, and that there was a 45 minute plus delay in service. Cute little brunch spot! We got there a bit before noon and they offered both the breakfast and lunch menus. Ordered the mimosas - these are big and so good! We ordered the regular eggs Benedict, the Eggs not so Benedict (crab cakes instead of the English muffin). Both were good but the not so Benedict was the best and definitely recommend that. The breakfast potatoes are also sautéed with peppers and onions and I could have eaten an entire plate! So good! We also ordered a side of the biscuits and gravy and they were ok. Fav dishes Eggs not Benedict received rave reviews from my husband and friend. Next time I might have to order this too! Ham n cheese is my favorite kinda sandwich. Lots of ham and just the right proportion of cheese and cranberry chipotle jam on perfectly toasted Texas toast. My comfort food sandwich. Philly cheesesteak was a winner according to my friend and had a nice spicy kick from the jalapeño aioli. The patty melt was just ok - thick beefy patty cooked medium well which was good but husband said it was missing some moisture / sauce factor. Portions are just right to maybe a teeny bit too much. I wish I had more room for dessert! Service was friendly and experienced, and getting everyone seated and served as fast as they could on a busy Saturday. Got here around 11 - We were a table of 6 and came on a Sunday morning. parking was available and there was no wait for us but after us, there was a wait for other guests (up to an hour). The service was extremely slow.. even getting coffee and mimosa was a bit of a wait; bit understandable that it was pretty busy when we went. We ordered 3 orders of chicken and waffles, crab cake benedict, side of pancakes, side of bacon, cuban sandwich, an egg dish and shrimp and grits. The food did not come for over 45 minutes.... when we finally got food, it was not delivered all at once. Each person that ordered chicken and waffles had additional wait... the server said their waffle maker was down one ... The syrup was room temperature and not warm... it sat on the dining table. The shrimp and grits tasted dry and was not great. The crab cake was cold. The side of pancakes and bacon were probably the best part. The bacon seemed to be deep fried to where it was crunchy like chicharrón. Pancake was fluffy and soft. The chicken and waffles were pretty good but it would've been nice to have not have to wait one by one to get an order of food. read more

Literally stumbled into Ol' Railroad Cafe this weekend and had what I can only describe as a breakfast that chugged right into flavour town! Ordered the "ham and eggs plate" which isn't so much a dish as it is a plate-sized passport to bliss. The ham was thicker than a history textbook and tastier than grandma's home cooking on a holiday. The eggs, ordered over-medium, were the epitome of eggy excellence - and let's talk about the Texas toast. It's basically just toast, but when you're in Texas, every slice of toast is a toast to Texas, right? The pancakes? Oh, the pancakes! They came patriotically adorned with strawberries, white powered sugar and blueberries - I didn't know if I should dig in and eat, or stand up and salute!. It looked like it jumped off the July 4th fireworks poster? Coffee was as hot as the Texas sun and twice as energizing. Wife went for the chicken and waffles, a dish that confirms what I always suspected: chicken's destiny was indeed to meet waffles and syrup. The service? Impeccable. It's like they've got mind readers in aprons here. Only hiccup? A bit of a smoky ambiance courtesy of the overly enthusiastic kitchen, which could really use an exorcism by way of exhaust fan. I ordered the shrimp and grits. There was zero flavor, I had to ask for Sriracha just to be able to eat it. Shrimp and grits should have Good spices, not be bland. The husband's burger was way more bun than it was meat and veggies. He had to remove the top bread and just eat it with a fork. He got lots of fries, they were good. Their bar service was nice. It's right across the street so it's perfect if you want something to eat after touring. The inside is really nice and spacious,but cozy. I had ordered the Hobo burger and it didn't disappoint. The burger was delicious and so were the fries. Came out quick and the portion sizes were large. The service was excellent too! Very friendly and attentive. I had gone on a Saturday afternoon and they weren't that busy so the wait time was short. Would definitely recommend this place to anybody who wants some good food in Rosenberg! read more

Just passing through Rosenberg to go to a nursery and decided we wanted a late lunch/early dinner before heading home. Found Ol Raulroad Cafe on Yelp and decided to go check it out. Looks to be in the downtown area of Rosenberg, in an old brick building. It's called Ol Railroad Cafe cause there's a railroad track right next door; we actually heard the train passing through while we were in the area. We came around 4-4:30ish so there wasn't anyone in the restaurant during the non-peak hours. We didn't mind at all cause of Covid - it was actually the best case scenario for us, though the server and chef that personally brought out our food didn't care to be masked. I guess the restaurant doesn't have a mask policy for staff. This wasn't so bad since they didn't hover around the table much. Staff was friendly otherwise. The food was pretty good! I got the Hobo burger - you can taste that it was hand pressed and made in-house. Flavors were spot on and the patty seasoned and cooked well. So were the fresh cut fries. Reuben was as expected. Only wish was they brought us the dinner menu instead of the lunch menu cause the party next to us ordered some soup and I heard fried Mac and cheese balls!!! Maybe next time! Hubby ordered the Santa Fe grilled chicken melt with fries, friend had the seared ahi tuna sandwich with salad, my Dad, the Ol' cafe Philly with salad and I decided on the spicy Cali club. Hubby and my Dad were raised on " You better eat your plate clean" homes. My husband didn't even half. He said something didn't taste right and had to stop. Father only ate half of his sandwich.
