I had to get some brisket for my cooking experiment today. I was searching for a BBQ restaurant while I was in Sugarland. Google maps pointed me to Brookstreet BBQ on Highway 6. I got here around 2:30. Lunchtime crowd was already passed. I ordered a quarter pound of marble brisket to go. The cashier was patient enough but failed to ask me to join the reward program. After I enrolled in the program, I realized today's purchase never got entered. I really have no business of going back just for missing points. This restaurant has been at this location for almost 20 years if I remember correctly. Food is consistent and pretty good. Not the most generous meat portions but reflective of price. Wonderful staff and always great service. Free parking with lots of space in front of restaurant. Dining room and restroom are clean every time I've been to this establishment. read more

I purchase a two meat platter during lunch and the ribs were amazing. I went back late evening and ordered the ribs and believeing I was getting the same quality of ribs, but to my disappointment they were tough. First the good. The beans were hot. The fried okra was hot and tasty. Now the bad: I haven't been here in years, and it will be a very long time before they see me there again, probably never. Ordered, sat down after getting my drinks, food came out immediately! That's good, rigjht? No. The okra took a few minutes, and the beans were in a pot simmering, everything else was not even luke warm. Cold baked potato, anyone? All the meats were NOT warm. Like eating leftovers from the home stove two hours after dinner was over. The portion size was pitiful. Arby's could probably do better $ for $. I went back and asked why my food was cold. She offered to put it in the microwave, as I suspected. I declined. She came out to the table and asked how long I wanted her to microwave the baked potato. I asked her if she didn't know how to operate it or did she think that I knew how long it was supposed to be microwaved before giving it to a customer. I told her I have my own microwave at home, just bring me to-go boxes for the entire dinner. I left without telling her what I really wanted to say, which had to do with understandng why I was asked for the tip while ordering, and before I saw the food or service. Summary: Poor value for the money (two people $50+); cold food; clueless wait staff. And for some strange reason it seemed that the kitchen was dark, like the lights were off. can't say i was a big fan of this place. the meat was really dry, tough, and lacking any sort of flavor. we ordered lean brisket since they were out of moist, but it felt closer to beef jerky than anything. each person can only have one slice of white bread. the food wasn't too expensive and the restaurant was clean, but there are better bbq places with freshly baked bread and tender meat. read more

If you're from out of town you might like this place! If you want good Texas BBQ ribs I would pick another place! Way over cooked no taste, no seasoning and no texture. If you want the meat to fall off the bone when you pick it up and it you like stew meat then this place is for you! We came on a Sunday afternoon. This was our first visit. We were the only customers visible in the dining area. I heard another customer in a separate room. There was a young man and woman at the front. The young lady was sitting in front of the counter and playing with her hair and scratching her face. The young man just looked at us. Neither one of them greeted us. Very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Other customers came in and the staff did not greet them either. The staff definitely needs more training on how to be friendly and smile with the customers. The food was mediocre. The cheese on the baked potato looked like it had been sitting there for a while. My Girlfriend has been a loyal customer to Brookstreet BBQ in the past and has now put me onto what they got cookin' and smokin'. I got a simple 2 meat plate with the jalapeño & cheddar sausage with turkey breast. I'll say that the protein was every bit of juicy and flavorful as well as the sides with them being the actual star of the show. The Mac was creamy and cheesy which coated your palette with peppery, cheddar goodness. We made a drive-thru order so I did not get to enjoy the inside at all and so with that being said the drive-thru was a bit tight. Came here for a work event. Rented one of the rooms and the staff was attentive to our needs. They turned up the A/c and fan when we complained it was too hot. Pretty quiet restaurant and lots of proper natural lighting. Otherwise ordered the 3-meat plate brisket, turkey, and jalapeño sausage x2 plates to-go. And got the potato salad and fried okras for our sides. There was a decent amount of food and plenty of okras. Fried okras had a good crisp to them and wasn't too full of breading. Brisket was slightly dry since they don't have lean brisket. And when I got home, realized they didn't pack me any sauces. So I was forced to eat the bbq without any sauce. Overall a decent experience. The failure to give bbq sauce didn't sit right with me though. read more

Everything was what I expected for a good barbecue place. The smoked meats were good, sides were ok but not outstanding. The ambience was good, clean, nice location and easy to get to. You order at the counter and they bring your food. You self serve your drinks. I ordered the loaded baked potato with turkey and it was as expected - tasted good and wax too much to eat. Haven't been here in a long time since retiring. Ordered through their drive thru. The barbecue was excellent. The ribs were the best I've had, fall off the bone, the sauce was delicious as well. Loved the Jambalaya and the potato salad would have like a bit mustard in it but that's me. My favorite dessert is Peach Cobbler and I loved especially the crust. Service was excellent and very friendly at the drive thru window. Will be back more often. read more

Overall was a good spot. I was driving down the street and noticed it so decided to stop and check it out. It was about lunch time when we stopped. Parking was not an issue and they are practicing social distancing. All the employees were wearing mask and some tables were taped off, even with that seating was not a problem. I wanted to sample some of the meat before I purchased and there was no hesitation, he went back and got me some to try. I purchased the brisket combo and it was excellent. It comes with fries and a drink. The fries were fresh and hot just how I like them and the brisket was tender and flavorful. My only negative is, a bit more meat could have been on the sandwich. This place was not very crowded on a Saturday lunch. It is walk up to the counter and place your order style, get your own drinks and seat yourself. We split the pork & sausage special and opted for the green beans and potato casserole. The BBQ is nothing special but they do have a special mustard BBQ sauce if you like that spicy addition. The sides were okay but nothing special. The building was some other restaurant previously but it was clean and decorated. The bathroom was clean. I work fairly close to this location and my co-worker and I always visit for lunch. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal from Brookstreet! Anytime I go, I am greeted with a smile and today was no different. As I waited for my to go order, I spoke with 2 ladies behind the counter about their menu and how I always eat the same thing. She highly recommended other things and even let me try their ranch style beans. They were great. I was also told that their green beans are amazing. I'll probably get those instead of fries on my next visit. I will definitely continue to visit Brookstreet in the future. I love their BBQ and great customer service. read more

Appears to be a low budget classic bbq place. Food list would make you think it's a classic bbq place. I'm left with just a general feeling of meh by the whole experience. When you walk in, the walls are covered with items that scream Texas Roadhouse joint. From the bull's skull with horns to the color scheme, this makes you feel like you're in a western joint from long ago. The food doesn't live up to that ambiance though. I got the pulled pork and dark chicken and the person with me got brisket and ribs. Our sides were the okra, Mac and cheese, coleslaw and potato casserole. I've had better bbq meat in the northeast. The food was ok but the sauce (choice of an overly acidic regular sauce or a jalapeño sauce that was also high on the acidity scale) leaves one wanting. I'm a sauce guy when it comes to bbq, and that is a clear miss here. The meats were cooked well for what we got. The real star of the menu is the fried okra. Never had a battered fried okra before and that was a big hit for us. I should also note that any cornbread fans will be disappointed in that they give you a simple slice of white bread to go with the meal. No cornbread option whatsoever. All in all was an ok meal but not what I would expect in Texas when I've had much better bbq in New England. read more

The restaurant has plenty of seating and the service areas were clean and neat. When the food was ready, they brought our trays to the table. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, a jalapeño sausage (sliced) sandwich and 2 sides (baked potato casserole and green beans). The sandwiches were served on egg (?) buns, but they needed the BBQ sauce that was provided on the side with pickles and onions. The sides were hot and tasty, but they were very peppery. Average BBQ place. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. We tried a majority of the meats and the ribs were probably the best part of the meal. The staff was not very friendly. We came in an hour before they closed, and it was obvious that they didn't want us to be there. They turned the music up very loud, where we couldn't even hear each other talk. I never thought the day would come when I found a new, better bbq place. My previous favorite was Cooper's but I think this one is the next winner. I went in thinking the meat would be dry and not as tasty, basing that off of my prior experiences with literally every other bbq place I had ever been to. I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. There were three brisket options, fatty, lean, and mixed. I took the fatty kind, thinking that if I didn't the meat would be too hard, and it turns out I was wrong. Their brisket was great...fatty and juicy like I wanted, and now I figure the lean would be too based off of my experiences with the fatty brisket. GET THE BRISKET!!! The sausage was great, though not as good as the ones I had at coopers. The skin was a bit hard to chew, but overall still a good sausage. There were two options, spicy, and regular. The chicken was GREAT as well, very chewy and tender, better than I xpected. I thought it would be tense, as chicken tends to be when you bbq it, but not at all. It was tender and you could really taste the smokiness of the meat, which amde it so much better. Definitely recommend the chicken. So if there were two meats I would pick, it would be the chicken and the brisket. Now for the sides. The casserole was a baked potato casserole, which at first seemed like it was pre-made, but upon further inspection and heating, it turns out it just looked like that cause I had it in the container lol, it had molded into the shape of the container when I took it out, which made me think it was like, canned or something haha. FEAR NOT, it was great and tasted amazing. The Mac and cheese wasn't as good as cooper's jalapeño mac and cheese, and I felt like it could've used a bit more salt, so I'd say out of the whole meal, the mac and cheese was the worst bit...though it still tasted great. The peach cobbler, which I barely had any since the portions for what I got were so big, tasted great, and just like your typical cobbler. Saved most of it for my second meal, but I think the small spoonful I had was great, and a perfect amount of sweetness. Oh right, in case you're wondering, I had the Texas Trio, and the portions were great for the price. I would've given four, maybe even five stars if it weren't for......onions. I get that they had to get rid of the self serve onions, pickles and jalapeños for sanitation reasons. I get that. But when I ask the person taking my to go order for extra onion, I want extra onion. Instead I got two small plastic containers of 3 small strands of PICKLED onions. No fresh white onion at all. Along with the small amount of onion, two pickle slices and one jalapeño slice just don't cut it when ordering two full meals.
