Had been wanting to see what this place was all about, so I planned a brunch with my favorite girl. Had a great experience overall! Here's what we tried: Queso & Chips: Super creamy and flavorful. The chips were fresh and had the perfect crunch. Great way to get it poppin'! I orderd the BBQ Beef Hash: It was on point! Smoky, filling, and satisfying. The beef was tender, and the potatoes had a nice crisp. Topped with perfectly cooked scrambled eggs--comfort food done right. Michelle had the Cheeseburger: She commented that it was tasty and juicy. Nothing fancy, but it hit the spot. The bun was soft and buttery, and the cheese melted just right. Couldn't leave without trying the So' O's (Southern Fried Oreos: Absolutely indulgent! Crispy outside, gooey inside, and dusted with powdered sugar. A fun and nostalgic dessert that's worth throwing all of l the calories away for. The vibe is upbeat and Southern-chic, with quirky decor and a lively crowd of all ages and backgrounds. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices are a little high, but portions are generous. Would definitely come back--especially for brunch and those fried Oreos! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I came for Father's Day, and the experience was disappointing from the moment we sat down. Water was dripping on us from the AC vents due to moisture buildup, which made the environment uncomfortable and unsanitary. The food was equally terrible. The crab cake had a strong fishy odor/taste and appeared undercooked - we had to send it back. The table next to us also sent the crab cake back so that's how you know it was bad. My mom and sister both ordered the State Fare Breakfast, and their meals were no better. The hash browns were raw, and the biscuit was so hard like a rock. Even after they brought replacements, the food was still poorly prepared and barely edible. I've never gone somewhere that has messed up hash browns! My dad and I ordered the birria grilled cheese, and that also did not taste good. This restaurant prioritized massive quantities of food over quality. The large size of foods led the food to not be cooked adequately. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Don't be misled by the positive reviews like I was. read more

I absolutely loved the ambiance--it's a modern, upscale vibe that still feels fun and laid-back. The service was solid too! Food: Overall, pretty good! I'll definitely be coming back. Went for dinner, brunch is next! Hushpuppies: 10/10 - Perfectly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I do wish they had come with some butter, even though the remoulade was tasty. Fried Green Tomatoes: 5/10 - Unfortunately, I don't think the tomatoes were in season. The flavor just wasn't there, and the lump crab on top really missed the mark. It had a weird, mayo-heavy taste with no real flavor--felt more like an upcharge than a flavor boost. Chicken Fried Ribeye Steak: 8/10 - This was my first time trying chicken fried steak, and I really enjoyed it overall. I would've given it a 10/10 if it hadn't been so salty. I get that it's a salty dish by nature, but this crossed the line where the salt overpowered the actual flavors. That said, the bacon green beans were delicious, and the mashed potatoes had a nice hint of honey or sweetness that I really liked. I also got to try a bit of the other mains(in the pics) at the table, and they were both fantastic right from the first bite! read more

It's a great date spot. I loved the drinks and the service. That's about it. Came for a date night. We got some "mocktails". The Basil Smash was very refreshing, as was the Madame Blueberry. Our server did an awesome job with the service along with the menu as well. I was craving some Chicken Fried Steak so I got that. My date got the Rodeo Burger. The Chicken Fried Steak is pretty big, but that's about it. For 28.50, I could've saved my money and got a better one at Denny's. This one was flavorless, overcooked, and tasted like it was fried in old oil. Rodeo Burger was good. Next time, I'll probably just get a sandwich. read more

The food here was delicious and it was picturesque. We stated with some mimosas. The board for all of us to nibble and enjoy till our entrees arrived. Husband and I split the chicken sandwich which was huge and it had the best hash browns on the side. Son got a burger with a fried egg on it with a side of fries. Lots of beautiful delicious food. The only problem we had was with our server who seemed to not really be paying attention to us as he continued to forget what we ordered and our entrees come out at different times. Lots of free parking available in the near garages. read more

Decided to stop by this restaurant for Houston Restaurant Week. The menu was limited, and most entrées had an additional $5 charge. We tried the fried green tomatoes, which were delicious and a nice size, as well as the crab cakes (not included on the HRW menu). For our entrées, we went with the shrimp and andouille sausage pasta. Unfortunately, the shrimp was tough and the sausage was overcooked and dry. On the bright side, the margarita flight was great--except for the lavender flavor, which wasn't enjoyable. The service also left much to be desired. It took about 15 minutes before anyone came to our table. Our waitress was very kind, but overall the service was slow. Overall, we don't plan on returning. read more

Food I had the burger with side salad. Super huge and the bun is super bouncy and soft. It tasted super meaty and seasoned enough. I would compare it to a higher quality burger than fast food and better than other fast casual burgers. They also allowed a side : fries or salad (if i remember correctly)in which i chose a salad. Further more, you could select the type of salad (I remember that since i had trouble deciding haha. Surprisingly they do not have mayo since i asked for some and they didn't have any. FYI my burger salad combo was ~$17. Also i parked in one of the garages near by and walked a couple of minutes to get here. Service 5/5. Friendly and attentive staff. Ambiance Felt like an upscale casual American diner to me (the price shows haha). Lots of options and vibes here are so chill and friendly! I would definitely come here again for a brunch or to hang out with friends to chit-chat. It is slightly on the pricey side for me. But once a blue moon or every other full moon is fine. read more

I came for brunch on a Sunday and surprisingly there was no wait. It seems like it would be a popular brunch spot as the restaurant has a very bright and modern feel, perfect brunch ambiance if you will. Now the question of the hour, would I come back? Hmmm hard to say. The food was not bad but not spectacular. I ordered the crispy chicken biscuit sandwich and the jalapeno cheddar hush puppies. The sandwich was nothing special, though I will commend the biscuit for being really soft and buttery. It was VERY LARGE I ate my sandwich open face style and still was not able to finish the one half of the biscuit. The star of my brunch was definitely the hush puppies. They were so light and flavorful, I LOVED them and couldn't get enough. I highly recommend. read more

The only redeeming quality of this place is the aesthetic. Our service was so awful, our server was so hard to track down for the entirety of our visit. We went on a quiet Monday night but we had such a great time. Our waiter (Jose?) was super friendly and attentive and our orders came out on time and correctly. I had the birria grilled cheese which was a popular menu item! It had a kick but was savory and delicious. I saved half and my boyfriend said it was good as well! I think the manager came to check in on us - service was A+. The decor was modern and clean inside. There are free parking garages nearby! Thanks for a great time! read more

I would probably give them 3.5 stars if possible. The service was good, especially for valentine's day. Our drinks were delicious and our app was tasty(queso). The entree my sister got was good but her mashed potatoes weren't warm. The bacon wrapped shrimp is good but the potato crisps on top are overkill. The shrimp are hidden underneath. The fries are ok. They could be crispier. I would come back and stick to drinks and apps. I feel like a lot of the entrees are kinda pricey for what you get. They had live music which was a nice touch. read more

Update: I've been to State Fare on several occasions for work and personal meals and have always had a great experience. The team at State Fare is attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly and I've always had a positive experience with the food as well. The service time has improved in my last few visits which is why I've updated my review! The portions for everything I've tried are always huge. The queso is super good as well. The restaurant is clean with great ambiance and whether my group has had a reservation or not, we've always been accommodate and well taken care of. Highly recommended! read more

I came here for brunch with two friends, and unfortunately, the experience was pretty disappointing overall. When we first walked in, there was an overwhelming sewer smell that made us second-guess staying. Thankfully, once we sat down, the smell went away, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered mimosas, but two of our wine glasses were dirty and needed to be replaced--not a great first impression. For food, my friend and I ordered the bacon praline brittle cakes, and our other friend got the XXL brittle cakes. They enjoyed theirs, but I couldn't finish mine because the syrup had a strange aftertaste that really threw me off. Service-wise, our server was friendly, but not attentive at all. It wasn't busy, yet we waited a long time for him to check in with us or bring the check. He seemed more focused on setting up other tables than helping the ones already seated. All in all, the few positives (like the clean table and decent ambiance once seated) were outweighed by the odd smell, dirty glasses, read more

Staying nearby for the weekend and wanted to grab a bite and decided on this place. No reservation but we were quickly seated. Soon after, our sweet waitress greeted us and took our drink orders. We were pretty hungry since we got off the road traveling just before and quickly ordered an appetizer and entree to share. We went with the jalapeño hushpuppies and the birria grilled cheese. My God both came out with plentiful amounts of food. The first bite of the hush puppies was refreshing and crunchy. They were paired with a creamy sauce and what a nice match. Next was the grilled cheese! Omg it was huge and I'm so glad we shared. It was buttery, toasted well and full of flavors. Definitely recommend. read more

We loved this place! Went on a Saturday morning for breakfast and got there as soon as the doors opened at 10 am. The seating is comfortable, there's plenty of round booths or tables and beautiful sun coming in through the floor to ceiling windows. We didn't get to try the "cat head" biscuits because they had some problem in the kitchen but the super friendly server and manager made up for it with offering other items on the menu. Everything was delicious but the must order was the jalapeño Hushpuppies!! We tried the guacamole with birria queso, avocado toast, fried green tomatoes, buttered pecan pancakes, breakfast plate, and the chicken fried steak and eggs. SO FULL!! read more

Birthday Destination Dined in here for a birthday dinner and the visit went really well. My selection of vittles was plant based burger and with a small adjust a (Vegan) burger, that was prepared really well and topped to my liking. Our server and the manager were not great at all, actually they were amazing. After a discreet and covert alerting of the manager that it was a Birthday meal she added the extra icing on the cake, making it that much more special. I have never experienced extreme loudness or a lot of noise and it was no different this night. Birthday Dinners at State Fare can be just as special as anywhere else. We love coming here for happy hour and enjoying their outdoor seating. The portions are huge here, so be careful on ordering too much! And split things when you can so you have more variety! Happy hour menu: Ribs are a fav and come with 4 meaty single ribs or so. They do have a bit of a spicy sauce so I would ask for it on the side if you can't handle too much spice. Salmon cakes comes with 3 little cakes that do seem to have a lot of breading. The sauce on top and corn relish is perfect for it though. Eat quickly when nice and warm too! Entrees: Birria grilled cheese - super delicious packed with lots of birria and a dipping sauce. My husband was impressed and said this is exactly what he expects from birria, which I'm not as familiar with. the sandwich does have 3 pieces of bread, so wasn't great if avoiding carbs but I took it apart and omitted the middle piece of bread. Hehe Prices are a bit high but I think it's partly bc the portions are huge. I wish they did have smaller sizes but that's why happy hour is perfect! :) read more

Made a reservation 45 minutes in advance on the patio so we could bring our dog as we were visiting from out of town. As I walked up to the entrance, an employee was seating a party of three at the table we reserved and it was the last available. Just as I called my wife to tell her our table was given away, a gentleman at our table began bleeding profusely from his ankle. One of his table mates tried to wrap it with a bandage and poured alcohol on the blood pooling up on the sidewalk. Understandably, the nearby customers fled the area. Obviously, this gruesome event could not have been anticipated by the restaurant staff, but we never saw anyone attempt to clean this up. We ate elsewhere. read more

We had our company holiday lunch here and closed down the whole restaurant just for us! We had a seated 3 course lunch with a limited menu, but there were close to 100 people so it was expected. The restaurant is spacious and clean, and had a private smaller room in the front that can hold about 30! I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was crispy, seasoned well, came with the most delicious mash potatoes and bacon green beans! How they fry enough chicken fried steak for such a large group is beyond me, but I'm very happy with how it came out! I highly recommend State Fare for large parties!! Tried this place for the first time after being attracted by their large menu and cute aesthetic. It was decent overall! Foos was very good and good portion sizes; I got the pesto grilled cheese with a Caesar salad and both were scrumptious. The interior was clean and well kept. The only issue we had was with service: I don't know if they were understaffed (didn't seem to be) or just not very attentive, but our waiter took forever to get anything done (bring drinks, take orders, etc). And when he did finally take our orders he didn't write anything down so of course there were several mistakes when it all came out, so we had to wait even longer. The manager was very apologetic and seemed intent on making it up to us by giving us several rounds of free items including fried Oreos, movie tickets, and Eras Tour cups (we were a group of girls lol). So that was nice and at least they knew their service wasn't quite up to par, lol. Overall a bit of a lackluster first experience for the price but the food was still amazing and we will probably still be back anyway! I do recommend giving it a try! read more

I've had a birthday brunch here a couple times and both times were amazing. Food - the cathead biscuits really make me wonder what sort of cat we're talking about because they are HUGE. They are tasty though, if a little underdone in the middle occasionally. The birria brisket benedict on the corn waffles? Amazing idea, especially how crispy the waffles are. My friends really enjoyed the food - the pancakes and chicken, the valentines brunch beignets. They liked the specialty cocktails too. There's a choice on the menu for most people which is great. Service - staff are great, helpful and prompt. Very friendly and made the experience much better. Inside - it's clean, spacious, and comfortable. Chairs are comfy and, despite the place being full, I never felt like it was crowded, even with a seven person party. read more

Decided to come here for a family member's birthday. We came on Saturday so we made sure to call in for a reservation ahead of time. When I called, I asked if they offered lunch and brunch at the same time as I saw online that they do brunch weekends. The person on the phone told me that they do. When we arrived at the restaurant, I had to wait for the rest of my party to arrive as half your party has to be there in order to be seated. When seated, we were promptly greeted by our server. I don't remember their name, but they were great. They initially only gave us the brunch menu, but I asked for lunch and they told me they actually have a dinner menu instead that we could order off of. Fine with me! They have so many wonderful options. I opted for something that I traditionally don't get which was the pork chop on the dinner menu. I don't think I've ever had a pork chop in a restaurant, but boy did this. Make an excellent impression. The pork chop was huge! It was cooked perfectly, the meat was nice and tender, there was a nice smoky flavor to it, and the creole mustard sauce that they put on top was chefs kiss. I got mine with the mashed potatoes and the brussels sprouts. The mashed potatoes were great, the brussels sprouts were a little too soft for me. I like mine a little more crispy, but they were still good. I was only able to finish half of the pork chop and had to take the rest home, but they made delicious leftovers. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes 3/5 as an appetizer. The grits with the Cajun butter excellent. And one of the guests also raved about the burger. Even the kid meal is a decent portion and comes with a variety of. Imagine a grilled cheese sandwich, sliced apples, baby carrots, a cookie, and I believe french fries all for $12. What a deal! They also serve it on a cute little lunch I think the only thing that was a bit of a disappointment for somebody in my party is that they ordered a salad with honey mustard but their version of honey mustard literally taste like mustard with a touch of honey. It wasn't too bad in my opinion, but if you're comparing it to what a traditional honey, mustard dressing taste like I understand the disappointment. Overall, we had a really good experience and I would definitely come back, especially for that pork chop! The servings are huge! Bathroom was nice and clean. I also really love that they had a little mini coat rack for purses. I don't know if they have too many of them, but I saw a party leave and quickly grab it after talking with the hostess. read more

Came in at 7pm on a Monday. Jupiter is closed on Mondays and I saw that they had chicken and waffles here and heard the shrimp n grits were good as well. When my wife and I came in it wasn't busy at all. Nice place, trendy decor and very clean. I looked over the menu and didn't see chicken and waffles nor the shrimp n grits. When the waitress came around I told her I didn't see any of the items we came for. She explained to me that they have 3 menus and the chicken and waffles and shrimp n grits were both only on their brunch menu. I was confused as I've never heard of shrimp n grits being a brunch only item, that's weird to me. Anyways, she then said they do have chicken n waffles all day though but it's just not on the menu. We proceeded to check out the appetizers and other dinner options when she comes back and says "actually they said we don't have waffles right now either." My wife and I looked at each other like...yup, that's our cue to go lol. The waitress was very nice but the experience and the way they break up the menu availability was a big miss. I really enjoyed my gluten free meal at State Fare! It took a moment to be greeted, but our server was nice and stopped by often. I love the ambiance of the restaurant! The vibe, the aesthetic, even the chairs were comfortable. I loved it! We started with queso, guacamole, and salsa sampler. Solid start with plenty of chips. Salsa was fresh, and the guacamole was fine. I did the grilled hot chicken on a gluten free bun, and it HIT. I did not expect to like a grilled chicken sandwich that much, but it was really good! I had a side salad with delicious green goddess dressing, but you can get fries too! The sandwich was really big, but the pickles, onion, cheese, aioli, all tasted great with that hot sauce! Stopped in for an early dinner/late lunch around 330 PM on a Saturday. 3.5 stars edging to 4. The restaurant has a nice modern look, however has a good amount of screens with sports on. kind of strange that most of the tables had ladies having brunch, but the many screens all had sports on. Just a strange mixed vibe. I was able to sample many items. We where given the brunch menu so be aware that they have several menus that are offered at given times. I asked the waitress about what the times and what we could order and I honestly did not understand the explanation. Chips, queso, salsa, and guacamole: Nice crunchy thick chips. super fresh tasting quacamole. the salsa has just a touch of heat and good flavor. The queso was above average but was even better when you mixed in some of the salsa. I would say it was a good appetizer. Kids eggs bacon and pancakes: I really like the kids meal concept on the cafeteria trays. All the kids meals have carrots apples, and a cookie. The bacon was large crispy pieces and the pancakes where big and fluffy. was a good meal for kids. State Fare Breakfast: Large breakfast plate that should fill up the biggest appetite. You could probably get away with splitting it with a friend. However there is a stated $3 charge for splitting plates. The giant biscuit was good and the strawberry jam was very nice, I would honestly say this was the best thing on the plate. The sausage patties where large and had a nice crispiness to them. The bacon was large thick cuts with a bit of spice. scrambled eggs were ok. The hashbrowns were great on the ends, they where nicely cooked and crispy. However the middle was way undercooked, it was a big mushy mess. In the end this is a large plate. It was not bad, and its a good amount of food, but the whole time I was like "that's is a $20 breakfast plate". that being said I had a full breakfast worth of food to go. Chicken Fried Steak and eggs: I really wanted to try out the Cathead biscuit and thought a large chicken fried steak would go great with it. I should have read the menu a little better as it states its only a 4oz steak. I was not only disappointed in the size of the steak, but also it was overcooked causing the breading to crumble off the meat, it was also tough. "probably from being cooked so long" and had a few large chunks of gristle. The white gravy had a good flavor, but was very watery and thin. The scrambled eggs where fine, nothing great. The hashbrowns had the same problem as the other plate, crunch on the edge and soggy in the middle. The cathead biscut was good, but honestly I should have just got one as a side and chose a different meal. All in all the steak put a negative spin on the meal. Arnold Palmer Ice Tea. Funny story, it was one of the worst Arnold Palmers I have ever had. But I got about half way through my glass and decided I was just going to switch to an ice tea. However right about that time the server brings me a fresh glass, I did not have the heart to tell her it was bad and just drank my water instead. In summary I think State Fare has some good things going for it. I just think that many people are going to be disappointed in some of the execution of some of the items. The portion sizes are good for the price, however many of the items where average to bellow average in taste. Probably the bacon, sausage, and biscuit being the best things about the meal and those only being slightly above average items. All in all I think the restaurant is fine, but I was not overly wowed by anything I tasted. Its a nice place to catch brunch or breakfast with friends. I can recommend, but don't think I would return. read more

Sad to say my last time at State Fare in Sugarland.. The quality of food and menu selection has gone down tremendously. I should have know when there wasn't one soul present for happy hour on Thursday and come to think of it now, I wasn't even provided a happy hour menu @ 5:00. I won't be back. The steak looked steamed taste even less desirable I had more mash potatoes for $45 bucks than steak.. also the butter on the steak was ICE BOX COLD and the jalapeño bread sounds good on the menu but it's not. The appetizer street corn avocado.. nasty. They really should have kept the frito pie on the menu for appetizers. The lavender lemonade for $14 bucks the best thing going but should have been at a happy hour price. read more
