Kids menu BBQ chicken over rice & baked potato.
    Shari C.

Food was very good with decent size portions. I ate off the kids menu & it was more than enough. Waitress was towards the end of her shift & apparently was more than ready to go home so she wasn't as polite as she could/should have been. She got a bit snippy when I asked for a clean knife. She just grabbed it & walked away. Returned with another knife that she just tossed on the table as she passed our table. It was not busy at all so it was quiet with music playing which made it nice.

The food was really good. I had the steak and chicken tenders. The tenders seemed small. The service was good and food.

The rotating fan display above us...

We ate at this Cheddar's for the first time last night and found ourselves faced with a short wait. The space was open with a high ceiling and an attractive rotating multi fan display. The atmosphere was pleasant but could have been improved with softer background music. The young man (James) that served us seemed a tad nervous and showed little in the way of personality. We had to ask for condiments for my wife's burger, dressing for my salad, and drink refills. When he did deliver those things it was always as quick as possible as if on the run. We could understand that if the place was slammed but it wasn't. Perhaps it was his first night. In any case we found it to cast shade on what was otherwise a nice enough meal. We had the Wisconsin cheese bites to start. It was an atypical app for us to order but no regrets, they were pretty good. After the complimentary butter croissants (delish), my wife had the Smokehouse burger and fries. It looked good if on the small side but she liked it and that makes me a happy man. I opted for a bowl of their potato soup but received a cup. It was pretty tasty. Then came my Crispy Chicken Tender Salad, large enough, ranch on the side. It was good as well though I needed additional dressing. Since James pulled our paper menus we were without desert options. Yes, we could have asked but opted not to. One pays electronically at the table further making the experience feel impersonal. Pro Tip: They take Apple Pay We won't rule out another visit but wish the service was up to par. Overall a respectable meal but it could have been much better. My recommendation is to give it a whirl if you have kids and are in the area. However, I would not go out of my way.

Visited on a Friday for lunch; we were put on the waitlist for about 10 minutes before being shown a seat in the bar area. The crack in the seat was filled with debris and was pretty gross, the table wobbly, and it just seemed like they were struggling a bit overall. We waited about 5 minutes after being seated to get our orders taken. The food was served promptly, slightly incorrect but was remedied quickly. The fries were lukewarm, and the entrees were pretty plain and flavorless. I had the buttermilk chicken sandwich ($8.99). The chips and queso were served haphazardly: there werent a lot of chips and the salsa was watery. Overall, you get good value for the price, at the expense of flavor and cleanliness. Compared to other fast casual restaurants of its type, I'm not sure I would return with the other options available in the area.

This is my steak. I asked for a medium rare steak and got a raw one instead. The one in the picture is the same steak one cooked again lol. In my opinion being it's still cold it's raw. The manager disagreed and said that's how they make a medium rare steak. So I would hate to see what they call a raw one. But hey if that's what you want hit them up. I won't

Great selection for the price. Quality salad and soup and a good beer selection. Service was average but would defiantly go there again.

I visited with a party of 8, and across eight varied and unique entrees, everyone absolutely loved their meal. Fried fish came out deliciously crispy in cornmeal batter, salads were freshly chopped and vibrant, and my blackened chicken was perfectly tender. I am usually a stickler for taking photos to go with my reviews but I forgot this time as the meal looked so good - everything was that tasty! :) Service was excellent and the rural atmosphere was calm and serene. Even though I had heard about this place, I was leary because all the Yelp reviews were so old. However, the place was packed and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I had the Saturday special 8oz Filet and added sautéed mushrooms and herb butter. They do charge extra for every single little thing, but these items "made" the steak. Hubby had the smoked Pork Chop with a baked potato (which we shared; upcharge to get it "loaded" which meant they added cheese to the butter and sour cream). Fresh hot bread and butter came with the meal. Both entrees were Yumm-oh! Our waitress was attentive and friendly and busy. I also got a glass of Moscato wine, which was tasty. And we ordered the Brownie Sundae for dessert, which unfortunately did not live up to our expectations. I'd definitely skip the $9! dessert. The total bill was North of $100, so kind of pricey for us, but we did like what we had. I just wanted to add a review that was current.

I'd typically give this 4 stars, but the price, service and the homemade meringue PIE bump this up to 5, especially because this place is way better than the current 3.5 star rating. I mean, you're not in the midst of epic food eateries in De Kalb MO. Lunch was chicken salad on a croissant, and a big bowl of homemade creamy potato soup. The chicken salad was large, tasty, and had onions, celery and grapes in perfect proportions. The soup was hot and thick, with very tiny bits of carrot and other veggies. I had the chocolate meringue pie. The crust is light and buttery. The meringue is old fashioned goodness. The chocolate is dark and rich and not overly sweet. The coconut meringue looked really awesome and everyone said the coconut was incredible. I was part of a group of over 25 people and the owner made and served all the food and drinks. She did a superb job cooking and serving this meal. Water, tea (sweet or unsweetened) and coffee was included. Lunch was $13.75 including tax. That's sandwich, soup, PIE and a drink! Great place for a large gathering. I didn't have my phone handy so I couldn't grab pics. But the next time I'm close, I'll be stopping by for some coconut meringue pie!

The ambience is stylish and lively -- a little on the loud side when it gets busy, but still totally tolerable and honestly part of the energetic vibe that makes the place feel like a real KC social spot. Now let's talk food. We ordered the shrimp and grits, Korean beef tacos, and fries with aïoli -- and every single thing was delicious. The shrimp and grits were fantastic, rich and flavorful, and the creole garlic shrimp paired perfectly with the warm baguette they serve alongside it. That baguette was perfect for soaking up every last bite. The Korean beef tacos were packed with flavor -- a great balance of savory, a little sweet, and just the right amount of kick. And the fries with the aïoli? Crispy, addictive, and the perfect shareable starter for the table. Everything tasted fresh, well seasoned, and thoughtfully prepared. Add in great service and a buzzing atmosphere, and you've got a spot that's definitely worth putting into your Kansas City dining rotation. We were hoping to take advantage of happy hour but were told it was only in the bar area (didn't say that anywhere on the website). Oh well! We didn't get any alcohol because of this though. Our server/service was very slow. We had to ask for drink refills multiple times, only after we caught the attention of our server. She was very nice but slow and not a great server. There were a lot of large groups celebrating together so it was loud, especially the table next to us who had a guest that honestly was so loud it really tainted our experience. That's not really the restaurants fault though, other than the table being so close to theirs. We were talked in to ordering the cheddar biscuits. They were...fine. They didn't really taste cheesy, more just like normal biscuits. Good but nothing super special and we wish we would have either not go them or got a different appetizer. My husband got the pastrami and it was good. I got the Korean steak and noodle salad and it was pretty good but lacked a little something to make it truly memorable. I would say there's enough noodles to make it more of a cold noodle bowl than a salad, too. We would try it again. The menu is large with variety so there is something for everyone.
