I usually go here and have the breakfast meal that has a meat option of fried catfish, before I donate blood. I love the grits with butter and syrup. The hash brown casserole is usually good although sometimes the onions can be undercooked or the casserole can be lukewarm, but this time it was warm and cooked through. This time I was too late for breakfast so I opted for the 2-piece fried catfish dinner. The tartar sauce is excellent. My order came out almost perfect. Today was probably the best food I've had at Cracker Barrel! The menu has been slimmed down from the last time I was here, but no complaints. Our server, Morgan, was awesome! She was attentive and helped out deciding some menu items. Very friendly! The food was great! We all got a sampler of some kind, but the pancakes were our favorite! Service was very good but the old standard Meat Loaf dinner was poor. Ordered a side salad for one of the sides and it was excellent. The main entree (meatloaf) was horrible! In addition to being a meager serving, it was so stringy and tough it was terrible. I have gone from that being a favorite by almost every on when it was actual made with quality ground beef. However, over the years the quality of the meat has degraded to the point where this is the last time I'll ever order it! Must not be the only problem with product because we were there during a Wednesday evening dinner "rush" @ 6:15 and there were only 12 people in the whole dining area. I've never seen that few cars in the lot and that few people in the dining room @ anytime. In fact, my wife got the same thing and everything on her plate was at least 1 1/2 times the serving sizes of all of the servings on my plate. I won't be back. CB used to be my favorite place for breakfast until recently. Service was good. Bacon had no flavor--we weren't even sure it was actually bacon. Out of 3 orders, one order of bacon was almost raw. I ordered extra crispy bacon and it was obvious that the bacon had just been microwaved to the point of being overcooked. Biscuits were fresh, soft, and had that yummy slightly salted top. Their b&g gravy is now more of a breakfast gravy, but tasted like it came out of a can, still an upgrade from the ham-like gravy from before. French toast was soggy and cold. Doing there best during covid? That's an excuse. Had door dash pu my southern fried chicken meal as well as other items. I ordered it from directly next door at a hotel and wanted it at a certain time. My food was probably made when I ordered it but then kept under a warming lamp or something because it sure wasn't fresh. I have had the same meal at other locations and it's usually moist and delicious. My favorite entree. What I got tonight after looking forward to a great dinner was very disappointing. Dry and bland. A little overcooked as well. Also on the order I checked that I needed napkins and utensils. I received neither. Can not blame covid for your shortcomings. I pay the same, maybe more now. 30 bucks with delivery and tip. Last time. I will not be returning to the St Joseph MO location again. What is vacation without a pit stop at Cracker Barrel? The consistency between restaurants has always been a marvel to me and this one was just as good as the rest. The store itself was clean and obviously well decorated (even with some Christmas stuff in a August!) and we only had to wait about 30 seconds to be seated. Our waitress was quick and attentive and the food came out near instantly. The food was fabulous and the portions we're enormous. I ate in a Cracker Barrel for the first time about 25 years ago. It was pretty good. Since then they've hit a corporate rut. I'm forced into "survival eating" (i.e. I'm hungry and my choices are limited) every now and then, which is why I even find myself in places like Cracker Barrel. All corporate restaurants are the same. Pick one. Their food is precooked in a factory kitchen somewhere, frozen or packaged, shipped to the local restaurant and simply "reconstituted" (i.e. heated up) when you order it. Each dish is exactly the same, whether you're in Wheeling or Waco. But . . . If you like a menu with no local creativity or freshness, want a pile of food for a low price, along with ample parking, then mosey yerself down to the local Cracker Barrel "Old" Country Store that's no more 'n 10 years old and 'long side that mall right offa the interstate, and enjoy some good ol' home cookin', or so they sez. Ever have Cracker Barrel's malted milk balls? They used to be the best around. They were huge, fresh, soft to chew, milk chocolate a quarter-inch thick, and they were scooped out of an old fashioned candy store jar. A couple years ago I went to pay my dinner check and get a quarter-pound of malted milk balls. The cashier told me, "They're over there in a package." Hey, I can get Whoppers at any convenience store. No thanks! But Cracker Barrel now saves on paying labor to scoop and measure out malted milk balls, adding, of course, to the corporate margin. Yes, diners of America, this is how we descend into mediocrity, one quarter-pound of malted milk balls at a time. Two stars because our server was just so nice. Very disappointing breakfast service and food. The over easy eggs were so over cooked that the whites were burnt and the yolk was completely solid. About 1/2 of the country fried steak wasn't even chewable. But as bad as the food, it was far better than the service. After dropping the food off, we literally never saw our server again. We were unable to get napkins, butter, or any drink refills. About 10 minutes after eating the small portion of our meals that were edible, I was finally able to waive down a manager Brian. After explaining what was happening and showing him the nasty steak and hard "over easy" eggs, he asked to see our check. So I re-explained that we had never seen our server since the food was delivered and never received a check. He left and returned several minutes later with a 50% "discounted check". While this may have been the way to handle the complete lack of service, it in no way solved any of the other problems. I don't think it's right to charge someone 1/2 price for inedible food or drinks that are never refilled. This shows a simple attitude of "shut the customer up" instead of "actually fix the problem". They have definitely lost my business. read more

It's a good place for families, though I assume that most Cracker Barrels are like that. I assume that the menu is the same everywhere, standard heavy, southern cooking. I didn't like how the sodas on the table collected and collected (clutter like that makes me nervous), and our server didn't know what a place setting was. He thought it was a place mat. Strange. My niece didn't like her mac and cheese, she said it was too cheesy, but with some crumbled corn bread on it she enjoyed it. My potpie was good and a good size (ordered off the lunch menu).
