My wife and I stopped in for what we hoped would be a nice Easter lunch with my Dad. We stopped in around 1:30 on 4/17/2022. Well the food was average at best and the server while a nice young man, needed some training on basic ways to address people his waiting on. My wife ordered an entrée and two sides. She was not happy with the broccoli or green beans which appeared to be french cut style and looked like something out of a del monte can. She said the rest of the food was average to blah. I ordered a T-Bone meal with two sides. The seasoned rice really lacked any flavor and had it not been an off tan color could have passed for plain white steamed rice. The broccoli was a bit overcooked for my taste. I like certain veggies to have a little bit of bite to them and not be mushy. The T Bone was only seared on the presentation side and was also the most fatty piece of meat I have ever eaten especially for a T-bone which is a top cut. It also had almost as much gristle as it did meat. Definitely not worth the 20.49 I paid for that meal. My dad's meal while he did not complain looked average at best as well. The service side of things was okay. The staff were friendly enough but the young man who waited on us needs to learn that you don't address people you are waiting on as "buddy". I am old enough to be his dad at almost 57 and my Dad is almost 80 and he is calling us buddy. He is lucky I didn't take him aside and address it myself. I worked in food service in two different restaurants and in a deli for over 10 years and that is not how you address people. Problem #1 - We called in & they would not set aside a table for a LARGE party (of 12) so we waited 45 minutes. Problem #2 - Despite the fact they knew we were a big party (while we waited) they failed to mention they wouldn't seat us together so our party ended up being separated anyway. I had the Spasagna which is fettucine alfredo with neat sauce ontop - but my fettucine was a frozen block so it went home w. me & the dog ate it (after I defrosted it for her). I used to like this place but my recent experience here was not good. It began immediately when I sat down in the booth and my hand set down on some food crumb that hadn't been cleaned up. I looked over and could see oily spots on the seat. They clearly did not clean the seats. I complained to the waitress and she did not apologize. She said she'd have it taken care of. No one ever came to clean the seat and she never asked if it had been taken care of. Next, she takes the order, fish tacos and two sides. When I get the order I only receive one side. She immediately tells me that I only get one side with the order and if I wanted the green beans it would be extra. Would have been nice to know that at the time of the order since I'd have preferred the beans over the fries. The fish tasted good but was lean on the slaw. I've had the fish tacos here before and it used to have more slaw.... it was mostly fish and sauce. After we got the food, we didn't see the waitress again until we finished the meal. I never got a refill on the water and had to ask for one. Also, after paying for the meal and signing the credit slip, we stayed another 10 mins or so chatting. The waitress picked up the pay slip and we hadn't even left yet. I've been to a lot of restaurants and that is the first time that happened, which seems very rude. Lansing, MI location should be checked out for health violations due to workers demonstrating poor hygiene by putting used tissues from blowing their noses with the silverware they are rolling up for patrons, rolling silverware after going out for a smoke and not washing their hands, leaving their uneaten food on a table near patrons and wandering back and forth to eat food and then returning to rolling the silverware with no hand hygiene. Photos available. Spoke with the manager PJ or BJ who wondered what was wrong with this. "Is there a problem?" he asked. No concern and no correcting the workers. I go to Cheddars sometimes twice a week because my teen daughter is hooked on it. Great chicken strips! Usually the dinner is really good. The steak varies from order to order. Sometimes you get one that's really fatty or not cooked to order. I get take-out a lot, and last night I ordered the steak & chicken strip platter. They open it for you to see and approve, which is nice, and I noticed - no chicken! Oops somebody goofed. But didn't wait long and they came back with 4 huge strips instead of 3. The staff at the bar who handle take-out are friendly and work hard, they are often pulled in several directions at once, so there may be a bit of a wait. I love the interior: stone, wood and plants. But not a lot of soft surfaces, so the place resonates with noise. The fish tank is really beautiful. Cheddars remains a family favorite. Reasonable prices, mostly really great food, big portions, and a wonderful dessert called Cookie Monster. Try it, you will love it. read more

I'm not a complainer so please take this review as a sincere and genuine review. My fork and knife and napkin were dirty with old food on them. My cole slaw plate and water glass were dirty as well. My girlfriends fork was dirty and her garden salad had brown lettuce. My coleslaw was dry and very very small. The croissant that came with my girlfriends tossed salad was good. I used to go to cheddars all the time as a kid. I came here not too long ago, they sat us and kept us waiting for 20 minutes. Finally we got up and told the hostess we were going somewhere else because we haven't gotten a drink order or food order. They brought the manager over right away and he took us back to the table again. She took our drink order and food order. Got it all wrong. Took way too long. It was a Wednesday night so it wasn't too busy. I just saw the lady chit chatting with her friends. Another time I found a long black hair in my cheeseburger. I hate coming here. Tonight was our second visit to Cheddar's. Despite feeling silly going to a restaurant called Cheddar's, we have had good, quick service, and decent food both times. The restaurant is nicer than I'd expect. The waiters don't wear flair. But, oh well. Can't win 'em all. I have had the Steak & Tender combo, the Chicken and Waffles, and the homemade red beans and rice. I'd eat any of them again, but was most impressed with their chicken; the batter is great. Their honey butter croissants are also good. My wife wasn't too impressed with her Chicken Alfredo tonight, but I don't think she's ever been impressed with Chicken Alfredo...so, that's a wash. Positive: spinach dip is great. Negative: ran out of ribs on a Sunday at 6. Host and server didn't tell until after order was put in..."they forgot to tell our table." We ordered a cheese burger kids meal we got a over cooked, dry patty in between two buns. No sauce, no cheese. The patty looked as if it came out of a box from the freezer. Since my meal was not available I ordered an appetizer it was out with in minutes. That would be great if I was not going to be be my meal. So by the time the rest of the food came it was cold. I've been going to Cheddars for years, but we won't be back since it's going down hill. Went at 4pm on Friday to beat the rush and left after 30mins without being seated. They couldn't seat us, even though there were plenty of open tables, because they didn't have a waiter/waitress assigned to the area where they could seat our party of 6. Flew into Lansing for a wedding and needed a good dinner place near our hotel. This place was busy on a Wednesday night but they got us sitting down very quickly. The loaded nachos were delicious!! Our group went to town on them. I got the chicken pot pie which was definitely homemade and fantastic. Their croissants are flaky and superb. The prices can't be beat either, one of our cheapest meals and all of us left very full and happy. The lemonade is fresh and flavorful. Wish I was staying longer to eat here again! We were hungry after some shopping and decided to give this place a try. We usually eat out at small, family-owned ethnic or pizza. It was our first visit, and we did not know what to expect. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated at around 8 p.m. We had no problems with the service, and the food was surprisingly delicious considering how reasonably priced it is. I had the chicken and waffles with a side of red beans and rice. My wife had the turkey club with steamed broccoli. This was a great value. Based on this experience, we will return. read more

The food is decent for a chain and the croissants are tasty but the service left some to be desired. Why can't wait staff/kitchen/restaurants get this simple part right: Salads before entrees. Give people enough time to eat their salads. If the people received their salad 2 minutes ago and you're scrambling to find space to put the entrees on the table but there's no room because of everyone's salad dishes, you're doing it wrong. Anyways, the place is a chain so it pretty much is what it is. Some people might not like the chicken tenders, they're battered pretty heavily and are super crispy. We visit Cheddar's occasionally because we have a picky eater who enjoys their grilled salmon, and because we always share a monster cookie sundae for dessert, which is fun and tasty. But really there isn't much that's exciting or fantastic here. Decor is nice. Food is pretty average. Service varies. Prices are average. Usually a wait on weekends. I enjoy the vegetable platter because I love side dishes and you get a soup or salad plus four sides (vegetables, fries, potatoes, mac and cheese, beans and rice, etc.) and you can request a tasty croissant with it. Kind of a unique dinner option and one that I appreciate. Kid friendly place (has a kids menu, noisy so people won't hear your little ones when they use their outside voices, cool fish tank to peruse plus a neat ceiling fan to admire). Like I said, we go occasionally and it works fine for us but expect chain family restaurant quality. read more

Family meal this afternoon, which wasn't bad overall. Prices were quite reasonable and portions were large. Perhaps too large. When a restaurant serves large portions, I get concerned about quality being substituted for quantity to build value. I don't get that sense about Cheddar's - I think they are producing a ton of a reasonable product at a reasonable price. I would challenge them to elevate this dishes, halve to 2/3 the portion size, and maintain the price point. Take my Buffalo Chicken Wrap entree as an example. Good Buffalo flavor, and I actually like the overall flavor profile. Use blue cheese or goats cheese instead of shredded, a higher grade tortilla, red cabbage instead of green for color, and halve the portion size. I would have been much happier with that wrap, and now you're serving elevated, delicious food at the same margins. That said, my brother's Monte Cristo was spot on - gorgeous color, flavor, portion size...that made me jealous! Final Take: I really like the overall atmosphere and the food our family was served. There's room to grow, and I'm hopeful this feedback is taken to heart, because I think management actually has their heart set on making good quality family dining a thing again. And THAT makes me smile. read more

Went here with a friend, very busy on Saturdays- call ahead and make a reservation! Friendly service and very fast considering how packed it was. Food prices are great! And I was very impressed with the size of the portions! I had the white fish meal, great healthy option, with rice and salad for less than $8! Great selection of alcoholic drinks as well. Stopped here randomly to try something new. The restaurant is really awesome looking from the outside, looks like a castle! When you walk in you kind of get the impression that it's going to be expensive but when you open the menu it's pretty reasonably priced. Ryan got the grilled fish tacos with a house side salad, I got the maple bacon chicken sandwich with mac & cheese and we shared table chips and queso. The homemade queso and salsa (kinda spicy!) was delicious. Ryan liked his tacos and my mac and cheese was yummy. The only complaint I have is that the bacon tasted like it was fried in old oil, it had a really weird after taste so I took it off and enjoyed my sandwich without it. The waitress was nice and attentive, she actually brought out the wrong salad dressing for Ryan's side salad but fixed it immediately. I look forward to trying it again. read more

We had visited this location for years, but after our experience last night, I may rethink eating there. Our dinner was good; however, our cookie monster was burnt black around the edges, no hot fudge on top, ice cream and whipped topping were clearly melting. Cheddar's! Yum! This is an inexpensive, traditional American restaurant. You get large portions and free refills. There will be a party in your mouth after you take your first bite. Get ready! They serve items such as Pot Roast, Chicken, Salmon, Steak, salads, and a variety of appetizers. The drink menu is extensive. For desert, you must try the Cookie Monster!! I had been to Cheddars two years ago and then went again this past week. I thought it was great! It is very reasonably priced. We didn't have to wait for a table and the fries were unbelievably crispy. This might become one of my new favorite places to eat!! I don't know if it's always like this but I went to Cheddar's tonight with my boyfriend and we were seated then not served or talked to for 15 minutes. I eventually went and found a staff member and asked if he could help us out - the food took a while to come out and we asked for a medium rare steak and got a medium steak that tasted almost freezer burned. Cheddars is my absolute favorite! I eat here at least 2 times a week, sometimes 3. It is exremely inexpensive and I would say its easily one of the best places to eat in Lansing. The pina coladas are to die for and the spinach dip is a must every time I go. I've had just about everything on the menu and don't have a single bad thing to say about any of it! I've never had someone wait on me that was slow, or rude and i've always been able to be seated - no wait. I'm so happy i live in lansing so i can go to cheddars all the time! Well done! read more

We came for Mother's Day, a day early. It is a pretty busy place. They were able to seat a party of 8 within 30 minutes at lunch which wasn't bad. The food is pretty good and the prices aren't bad. It can be noisy closer to the bar area. The service was above average. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food. They should allow reservations or use open table. read more

I loved this place up until recently when I placed a to go order and it was terrible. I ordered the New Orleans pasta and it had no chicken, peppers or onions in it. I had about 5 shrimp and there was barely any sauce. I called to get a refund and they never processed it. I had to call them again and it took them forever to even find my order.
