Living in Maryland is particularly difficult as it causes me to be away from family. This year I decided to come home and spend my birthday in Tennessee. Per our usual I wanted to take my elderly father out to eat. He most always picks IHOP. To my surprise this time he chose Cheddars. Gladly I took him as he was excited to finally go. Fast forward to us being seated. Imagine our surprise and horror to be sat at a table covered with smears of food from the the last patron. It was clear that the table had been carelessly wiped with a dirty, wet towel. Imagine trying to step around smashed macaroni and cheese on the floor and sitting in a chair filled with bread crumbs. Imagine a server that could care less to seat us in such filth... Now imagine us walking out and the loss of an entire family's business. Because that's exactly what we did. And where did we go? IHOP. We may not have had the menu that we had desired of Cheddars but the tables and floors were clean and the service was excellent. You may consider taking a lesson as to not lose more business. Cheddars service is absolutely horrible. My family came here for a nice dinner and they can't even get our drinks right. Our waiter forgot to put in one of our drinks and said he forgot. The outside area is also disgusting, they don't pick up after people have left and they leave dirty food and dishes out on the tables around us. Also none of the workers can get any of the orders right. They will stand around yelling if you have ordered something. This is absolutely ridiculous and very disappointing. I will never come here again. I hope they get better at doing their jobs. But the sweet tea is pretty good so i gave them a star. read more

Ma and I had a great lunch at Cheddars. It was a Wednesday afternoon (10-14-15) around 2:30 and we were just about to collapse after a marathon shopping experience. We needed fuel, and fast. So we popped into Cheddars. I can't say much about the location because I don't know much about the town. I was just visiting, so Ma gave me directions. It seemed easy enough to get to right off State of Franklin Rd. The restaurant itself is pretty nice. There's a variety of seating (tables in a sunken pit area, booths, tables on the patio), and plants everywhere. We scored a cozy booth against a big window. We both ordered the Crispy Chicken Tender Salad, but with Ranch dressing instead of that nasty Honey Mustard crap that normally comes with it. It was an enormous and tasty salad. The chicken was very nicely seasoned, and the dressing was really good. I cleaned my bowl! The best thing about our experience at Cheddars was our waiter, Anthony. He was friendly and accommodating and professional ... and he was -way- nicer to the mother / daughter skanks at in the booth behind us that kept sending stuff back to the kitchen because it didn't meet their "standards", than I could have ever been. We went here for lunch. I brought my almost two year old with me that still need a high chair no sooner does our hostess bring us to our table when she asks if we need a high chair. Yes we do! Well we can't sit at this table because it's a fire hazard. Maybe she should of thought of that before seating us??? So she gives us an unstable booster seat that my daughter fell out of twice! No sooner do we sit and our waitress comes up and asks us if we want an app. Well, can we look at the menu first? The rest of the meal was like that, rush rush rush. I love me some Cheddar's. Service is hit or miss at this location, and they don't take reservations. My friend threw a surprise party here for me one year for my birthday, planned the whole thing and told everyone about it to find out they didn't take reservations. We ended up waiting 2 hours to sit because we had a large party. The food here is great, with generous portions. I love the Ragin' Cajun Chicken Tenders, although they change the name of them about every other month. Overall, the occasionally crappy service is worth it for the food, I'd say. read more

I'm not big on reviewing chains but ad far as they go Cheddar's is better than the typical go to's. Always like starting off with a stack of Onion Rings or some Wisconsin Cheese Bites. Just had the worst experience ever. First we sat for 10-15 min with no server then the drinks were another 10 min. Finally when the food arrived the server dumped some sticky kind of sauce that came with the shrimp and tenders all over my boyfriend. It was an accident but when the manager came out instead of discounting the bill he told us that if it stained and we couldn't get it out to call back and they would pay for dry cleaning. WTF who does that. Very upset with how this was handled. We never go out to eat and the time we came here it was awful. Just left this location. All though the sever was very friendly, we did not get checked on after our food had been brought out until right before we were leaving. I ordered the chicken tender and coconut shrimp combination and my boyfriend order the chicken tender and sirloin combination. Both dishes were not worth eating. The steak was over cooked and under seasoned, all of the sides were cold, and to top it off my shrimp had a hair cooked into it. Cheddar's is a large and very well-styled building and gets busy as soon as it opens. I arrived at 11:30am waiting for a friend to join me; unfortunately while I waited (about ten to fifteen minutes, as I like to be early), not one of the many waiters who walked by and made eye-contact with me stopped to offer me water. I was disappointed in that aspect, however the food at Cheddar's is make very quickly and is tasty. Cheddar's offers a variety of American food. I enjoyed a delicious buffalo chicken wrap with ranch on the side, and a side of fries. My friend had the chicken pot pie which looked amazing, and it came with a side salad. Our waitress was very attentive during our meal, even as the restaurant got busier. If you are looking for a nice yet casual restaurant in the Tri-Cities area with a variety of delicious and simple foods, you have to try Cheddar's! I ordered the Money Christo, which I order very often.But today it was awful..It was so burnt that I couldn't eat it, so I sent it back and the manager brought out another one that was just as bad. One of my favorite restaurants in Johnson City. The atmosphere is great with the windmill over the one dining area and the dim lighting. The the wait staff is always friendly and very attentive. The food is great and the portions are a good size where you won't leave hungry. The drinks are good as well the painkiller is a great drink. I used to love Cheddar's until my visit today. We had family here from out of town and our entire meal and experience was a disaster. Something was wrong with everyone's order, it took forever to get our food and my husband had to wait an additional 40 min for his food because they submitted the order incorrectly to the kitchen (almost everyone else at the table was finished eating.) It took 20 minutes to get the mashed potatoes that were to come with my other food that was almost completely cold when they arrived. I had to ask three times and 4 different people to just get boxes (including the manager this evening after all of the other issues.) I am just super disappointed. read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner on a Monday evening. Server Chris was great, but alot of other problems...I ordered a Caesar salad and upon eating it, I found a piece of penne pasta and the saw dried cheese on the bowl. Told him, he told mgr. She came with an excuse that they mix the pasta salad and Caesar salad in the same bowl! And the dish must not have been completely in the dishwasher. The the meal came...a luke warm potato! We were offered a "free" dessert for the problems. But it didn't end there. The bill came and my meal was on special but the bill had the full price. Again, back to mgr to be fixed! Only in Johnson City, TN would Cheddar's have 3.5 stars and people raving about how delicious it is. Nothing is made from scratch. Soups come from a bag. Salads come from a bag. It's a chain restaurant, and that is how chain restaurant maintain proper consistency and proportions of these food items. Nobody goes to a chain restaurant to delight their palate or have variety. You go for consistency and a simple meal you could have probably made at home if you had a deep-fryer. read more

I had a lunch stop here on way to a customer in Kingsport. It was about 1:30 so the lunch rush was over. The place was still pretty full for that late. The atmosphere is similar to a Chili's type restaurant but more warm. They seated me in the bar area in a booth which was fine by me. The server was extremely nice and brought me a water. I usually eat light lunches so I was interested in the salads. They offered a salad with salmon on top with a vinegarette dressing. I opted for a honey mustard as some times the vinegar based dressings at restaurants are not very tasty. I asked her to bring both on the side just in case. The vinegarette was actually very tasty so I had that on about half and the honey mustard on the rest. The service was quick and the server was awesome. She brought the bill at just he right time and did not hover as I was checking emails. All in all I really liked the food and the atmosphere. Have frequented this establishment numerous times and the food is consistently good, hot and fresh. Most of the hostesses are not very friendly but the food comes out quickly and you always are given refills without asking on the drinks. I have very mixed feelings about Cheddar's. On one hand, the food is good, honest, reasonably priced, American fare. Quality is consistent; you always know what you are going to get and that it's not going to cost a lot. The place is always crowded, so you know they are doing something right. On the other hand, it is the noisiest restaurant I have ever been in. Even if you sit relatively far away from the kitchen, you still hear the kitchen sounds constantly. And that's not the half of it. They must have some mechanism in there that amplifies the din of the crowd because it's so deafening. It's hard to hold down a conversation. No other restaurant in town is even near as loud as Cheddar's, even when full. The service can also be kind of slow. Now, for specifics -- Great hamburgers. Good, honest, unembellished Fries done the way I like them. Philly cheese steak is very good (although not the best in town). Decided on coming here around 6p Sunday evening. Since it was nice out, went for outdoor seating. Our waiter took our drink order and we asked if we could go ahead and give him our dinner order, also. Well it was downhill from there. Our drinks arrived after our appetizer. We ordered ribs which were good but the firies were greasy. We asked for extra sauce for our appetizer and had to remind our server about it since it never arrived. We didn't get refills for our drinks until he brought the bill. Then when we asked for dessert...we ate it with all our dirty dishes still on the table. And had no napkins. There were 5 tables with customers outside and each table had a different server. Maybe if just one person had the outside tables there would of better service. We were the last to leave. Other servers cleared their tables as soon as customers cleaned them off. Ours wasn't. A lady came out and wiped one table down and left the rest dirty, even though the customers had left.
