I have gluten sensitivity and McAlister's one of only places I can get GF bread. I go there weekly ( sometimes twice ) at lunch recently the GF option was removed from online ordering. you can get the bread if you order at counter ( which I dont have time to do on lunch break). I order online. when I ask why was it removed the people at counter give a blank glazed over stare and say " it's corporate". so. corporate. can you not fix this???? what is the problem. read more

First - so many delicious choices! I had a hard time deciding! The lady at the counter was so sweet - she showed me the "choose 2" and that's what I ended up doing. I had 1/2 angus beef spud & 1/2 of the Savannah salad - both were EXCELLENT!!! I then went back a few hours later to get a meal for my sister. She got Justaspud & a bowl of the broccoli cheddar soup (I ordered a cup of the broccoli cheddar) again everything was awesome!!! We will definitely be back!! McAlister's is conveniently close to where we live and we've used them occasionally for take-out. With mixed results. Today we ordered their baked potatoes with toppings. We've had them previously and they've been pretty good -- today they were awful - the toppings were so skimpy we wonder if there's any quality control in this restaurant. This location is extremely unprofessional, unsanitary, incompetent, and disgusting. I order my food to go and the guy who took my order ask me 3 times was it to go and I answered yes, yet he still put it in the system for me to eat there. After waiting 20 mins, my order was never called for to go so I was very confused. Then I saw the manager with my food on a plate walking into the dining area. She proceeded to come back with my food to the window and she sat it there, proceeded to pull her mask down, and coughed on my food! This was ok. First of all, I had a hard time getting a parking space because of the location. The food was done pretty quick which was nice. But I wasn't crazy about the sandwich I picked, which was the ham and cheese and a few veggies. It was ok, nothing to brag about. I realize that this is nothing more than a chain deli, so I was not expecting anything exceptional. HOWEVER, I do require that the counter staff be friendly. The woman who served us never cracked a smile, and seems to hate her job. My dining partner and I ordered different salads, but it was obvious that the lettuce came from the same source - about 50% "garbage," white iceberg stuff. What one expects to see in a McDonald's salad. Both of us spent the rest of the evening running to the restroom, so I will assume that the lettuce "had some issues." We had different dressings and toppings. El Pollo Loco has better salads! For that matter, so do Wendy's and Arby's. No plans to return. EDIT: Apparently, it IS "typical," as I have seen the same lousy lettuce in a few other visits (salads are harder to find in East TN). I've only ever had the same menu items when I dine here: BLT and Harvest Squash Soup. They're both fantastic: generous bacon, flavorful lettuce, toast not too crunchy, soup hearty and filling. One of these days, probably after they put my favorite soup away for the season, I'll have to find something else to pair with my BLT. read more

It is my first visit here and I decided to try this place out because of the variety of food they offer on their menu. It was also cold out and felt a craving for chili. I ordered the traditional chili with California turkey rye as a side. The sandwich was delicious! It wasn't oily and burying with floor. Probably because of the rye bread. The chili was also delicious, though a bit salty. When I typically purchase chili on the go, it's usually from Wendy's, but this place is hands down, far better hands down. The environment was very clean and the staff mebers were nice. They deliver your food to your table, which I found to be very neat. The regular size cup for drinks is like an extra large in my opinion. You get a lot for your buck here, that's for sure. The price range was very affordable. Something like this is New York would cost an arm and a leg. I highly recommend this small treasure in Johnson City. I certainly will return in the future. The four star rating is for the chili that I found to be a bit too salty. Fix that, and this is a 5 star sandwich restaurant. read more

We usually think McAlisters deli is great, have eaten at them in several states. We had a roast beef cheddar baked potato today and the roast beef was no where near what you would expect from a deli it was riddled with gristle, un chewable, and nasty. Very disappointed! read more

There are plenty of restaurant chains that emulate delis but none that I have seen match McAlister's. That is not to say anyone could confuse this experience with a real NYC deli, but everyone I have seen is clean, attractive, and well-run. There is a good variety of tasty sandwiches, and they strike a good balance between the predictability of a Subway and the trendiness of Panera. I was disappointed that I did not have time or energy on this occasion to find something local, but I ended up having an excellent lunch. read more

My last experience there. Our group was nearly finished and we were going to leave in 2 minutes. The restaurant had 5 minutes before it would close. The manager walked up to the table every 30 seconds during those 2 minutes we were finishing and reminded us they were closing in 5 minutes. It wouldn't have been so bad except the person who was trying to speak at the table had to repeat her entire thought at the start, 5 times. Before the manager unintentionally gave her enough time to finish when he didn't walk up within 30 seconds again. We group of 12 left tips like we usually do, and did each time we went there in the past. However we're not going back because of the actions of the manager. Some would say "But you're an individual". True, but I go with that group because of how fun they are. So when they eat out, I eat out. When they don't, I don't. As I was speaking to ask a question about pickup order she became very rude towards me and acted like it was a waist of time to get my order. I eat there at least twice a month. The food is great and the service is great too. I love the baked potatoes and the chicken salad on croissant. I have tried other sandwiches which are great too but the chicken salad is my favorite. I would recommend McAlister's to everyone. read more
