I've waited for my third visit to write an honest and thorough review; The hostess (same one) each visit had an attitude and was very rude to my family & I when we asked politely to sit somewhere else - negative one star here. Throughout my visits, I have been pleased with my servers but the quality of food has decreased over time. Simply, I had a very pleasant experience here. Even though there were a couple of problems they were handled immediately and professionally. That said something for the management of this establishment. The wait time was none as my dining companion and I were seated immediately. It wasn't a weekend so I didn't expect it to be a problem. The hostess was very nice and routine which mostly usually are. She was dressed nice and had a great appearance and quite young. She was very soft-spoken so she could have use a bit more audio or maybe even more outgoing enthusiasm and small talk to discover if it was our first visit; which it was. Our server was named George. Nice young man very eager kept a smile and aimed to please. He actually made small talk and we introduced ourselves to him as well and we found out his age and that he enjoyed working there and that he was happy to see us seated at his station. George was timely with asking about whether it was our first time, taking a drink order and even discussing possible appetizers, and while he went to get the drinks he gave us ample amount of time to look over the menu. Once he returned with our dirty martinis, we placed an appetizer order. As we took a first sip I noticed an imperfection in the martini glass. Come to discover the rim was chipped and jagged. George returned, showed genuine concern about the situation and immediately took the drink away to have it remade in a thoroughly inspected glass. He returned to assure me the drink was being remade and again apologized. We ordered our entrees. Oddly enough our entree came to our table hot and in under 120 seconds! (?????). My companion and I gave each other quizzical looks as to how two involved entrees arrived almost lickety split! Obviously food isn't made to order here but fast forward: it was delicious. Rewind: once the entrees arrived the General Manager, John, appeared to give a breakdown of our dishes as popular and faves of his and how each could be prepared differently if need be with substitutions and more seasoning. John also advised me that the martini was ready and they personally discarded the drink and stemware and apologized for the mishap. I assured him I wasn't harmed but have s keen eye and appreciated every swift attention I received. I also made certain to give George kudos on his wait staff mannerisms. We cancelled the appetizer since there was no need to nosh before dinner as it came with an unexpected speed. This caused them to have s dinner ticket less than it could've been for George and Cheddar's. Too bad. Maybe they could've held off the entrees until the appetizers hit the table. But I digress. First time trying out Cheddars and I will certainly come back. It was fairly busy and recently opened so I was expecting a wait and possible delays on orders but this was not the case at all. Service was fast and courteous. Very competitive prices and a generous portions. The chicken tenders were yummy and my dining companions salmon was delicious! The spicy mango mojito was sooooooo good. The signature Painkiller drink has copious amounts of alcohol and presented beautifully with toasted coconut on the rim. It was a bit too sweet and heavy for my tastes but I wouldn't bash it at all. I shall return! read more

Well done Cheddars! Well done! This place is an example of what I'm talking about. This location just recently opened in Jax. Normally when a new place opens you have to give them a bit of time to get adjust with their service and the hype that comes with opening. Cheddars needed no such slack! They were on point with our entire visit. We had a large party for a coworkers birthday celebration. They don't take reservations so I expected a bit of a wait for a table given that we came during peak lunch times. We were actually seated in under 5 minutes. The waiter who served our table was amazing! I mean he was really a prime example of great customer service. He was absolutely attentive at all times. Several people at our table ordered steaks and as he dropped them off at the table he asked them to check if the temperature was to their liking. One in our party had his steak a bit overdone and our waiter took the steak immediately to correct the steak. He left the rest of the plate with his sides for him to munch on while he waited. While the steak took a bit longer than anticipated to cook, the manager delivered an entire entree with the correctly cooked steak. It was great service! I wish I had remembered their names to give them a shout out! I realized I haven't even mentioned the food yet. But the service was just that GOOD! I recommend the croissants and cheddar Bites as some of my favorites for starters! SO good! I can vouch for the Cajun Pasta as a great entree as well. And as always with the Cheddar's brand be prepared overall for large portions and tasty food at a more than reasonable price. I was floored by the exemplary service and food! Cheddar's has a large menu, and after only one trip, I still have a LOT of items to try. A co-worker and I stopped in for lunch during opening week. I couldn't believe that we were able to get right in and sat at the bar. Everything sounded so good, but I opted to try out their lunch menu. I had a salad with ranch and loaded potato soup. My co-worker also ordered us the croissants...OMG! These things have honey butter drizzled all over and they are mouth watering good. We had onion rings for apps. Always phenomenal l. The rings were fresh and the sauce (like outback) and ranch was great! The wife and the relative had tenders and I had bbq chicken and ribs. The tenders were well. Hot and fresh. We enjoyed the sweet hot dip. The bbq on the chicken and bbq was awesome! It's on the sweet size. The ribs were falling off the bones. Went here for my sisters 22nd birthday, thought we would try a new place at the town center! Was an hour wait, must be good right? Got sat and it took 15 minutes to get drinks. We put Our food orders in right when the drinks came out. Constantly we're asking for refills. Food came out in a timely manner thankfully but looked like it had sat in the window for a good minute. My mom ordered a drink from the bar that didn't come out till 20 minutes later and she sent it back. I got the "tossed" chicken tenders which really meant tenders with sauce poured on them in some places. The table was never bussed at all so we were constantly stacking dishes. It's ridiculously not busy yet it's taken 30 minutes just for drinks from the bar. We've been here for an hour and a half and only sat down 30 minutes. There are tons of tables empty yet we haven't gotten our appetizers. I really enjoyed Cheddar's when they first came to Jacksonville. We went the first week they opened and the food was amazing. My husband had the combo of steak and chicken tenders with the creamy man n cheese. He loved it and said the steak had great flavor. I had the chicken tenders and steak as well but with the French fries. It was all so delicious. We even got free honey butter croissants. But....all good things must come to an end. We recently decided to head up there after our successful first trip. What a bad idea. The food was terrible. My husband order the potato soup, freezing cold when it came out. I ordered a salad, had so much dressing and so little lettuce. Then dinner came, my husband's Monte Cristo was actually really good.On the other hand, my grilled chicken with mushrooms. Service is really good ....once they show up. Staffing looks to be an issue. The servers are good but stretched thin. The restaurant is new and it may take a little while to work out all the kinks. The food is delicious (yes it bears repeating). I started with a fresh crisp house salad with amazing chunky blue cheese dressing. Followed that with a ribeye that was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Accompanied by a fully loaded baked potato and excellent mac & cheese. The Boss had a pile of remarkable chicken tenders and grilled shrimp. Followed by an amazing bucket of apple crisp a la mode. It's the weekend, I understand that all the restaurants will be packed, we went to Firebirds first but the wait was 1 hour and thirty minutes. Blood sugar was already dropping so we called around Cheddars said 30 minutes wait so went there and waited and waited... after almost an hour, I asked what happened to 30 minutes wait, manager said it will be another 15-20 minutes, so I got irritated and left.... I was in restaurant business before and from m experience you calculate the wait time as much as possible and if there's any delay, you tell the customers.... We finally got into Cheddar's and whoa! Just WoW! The menu is Yuge, and quite varied. I've never been to a Cheddar's so I had really no idea what to expect. The atmosphere is casual, good for a date or for a family night. The layout is really nice and the booths provide plenty of room and privacy. We waited about 4 minutes and were told ten to fifteen so that's good. The service was great but the food stole the show. It was lunch so we didn't want to get bricked and we ordered "light", or so we thought. We both ordered vegetable plates with soup, and split chips and queso. (Ground beef on the side- it's free!!!) The veggie plates it like $8.00 but everything was excellent and portions were large. The broccoli casserole was ridiculously yummy as was the mashed potatoes. The coleslaw is probably made with apple cider vinegar and has an awesome flavor. The Mac and cheese was rich and delicious. The baked potato was pretty ok. The soups, chicken tortilla and potatoe were both really good too. So recap- (bowl) of soup, full baked potato, monkey dish of coleslaw, decent helping of broccoli casserole, and a good helping of Mac and cheese for $8.00, were ya gonna get a better deal than that? We didn't need the chips and queso in retrospect- but the cheese sauce was the bomb and the ground beef was like really good taco meat and it came with a sweet but spicy salsa, or pico. Yeah, we left stuffed to the gills. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it took a little too long for our chips and queso app to make it to the table. (I could tell it was sitting for a few minutes and within 3 minutes of getting the app, our soup arrived. And they forgot the coleslaw, but I'm gonna give them a pass because all of it was excellent. They have a "house made" marinara for dipping and it was exceptional, not being a traditional "Italian" restaurant I wasn't expecting much but I can tell you that sauce would make anything great. I don't remember if they have pasta on the menu but if they do it's probably way better than you'd expect. I ordered a crispy chicken salad. So, this thing was so big, the picture really doesn't do it justice. It was gigantic, epic proportions no exaggeration. Not only was it large, it was absolutely perfect! The Romain lettuce was perfectly chopped and fresh, the carrots and cheese were perfectly layered and super fresh too. The chicken was stand alone good. Like it legitimately didn't even need sauce or dressing. Their chicken is better than any other fried chicken I've had in forever. The whole thing was just great. If I've learned anything about Cheddars it's that you don't need an appetizer. The portions are way above average. I love this place! If you are in the mood for Cracker Barrel type food but actually want better quality and more of it for less money- try this place out, you won't be disappointed! read more

Hosted a Christmas Luncheon for my work peeps, and the Cheddar's staff did an excellent job taking care of us. The food came out quickly, and the servers went above and beyond with their service. Having received a gift card for Darden restaurants, we wanted to try Cheddar's. The menu and prices looked very good. I phoned first to ask if they would accept an Olive Garden gift card, since the back of the card says we may be able to go to other Darden restaurants. They answered affirmatively. When I called back to place our order, the same girl refused to take our order over the phone, telling us they were only taking online orders. Two other local Darden restaurants had also refused us, in the past. We don't do financial transactions on our computer because we know it's not secure; we're not tech-savvy. It must be a new 'thing' for people to refuse your business. I'll be sure to advise the Darden Executive Team as well. read more

My children and I are here for a late lunch (around 1:30 pm) and I was pretty disappointed. The waitress from the get go seemed as if she was not happy to be there. She slammed our appetizer dishes down and just seemed not in a very good mood. My daughter even commented that she seemed mad. The food was such a big disappointment. I really don't like to post negative reviews, BUT , I went in Cheddars at 4pm on a Monday, there were only a handful of guests ! We were seated and our order taken within 15 minutes , it took AN HOUR AND A HALF, 90 minutes to get out food, the server , disappeared! I had to go to the front and ask if she was still working??? 3 minutes after I complained , our food showed up, it was cold and had a "glaze" on it like it was sitting out for a while !!!!!!! The sever AGAIN was no where to be found!!! AGAIN, I walked to the desk and asked for the server She Came by the table with a TOTAL ATTITUDE! Last night the hubby and I took our 10 yr old granddaughter put for dinner. We were not as pleased with the service this time. We had Danielle and as I understand that they were busy, it just was not as good an experience as the last time. The food was good but, first of all my husband spent a good deal of the service with an empty drink glass. She came to us a couple of times and didn't even ask about a refill for him. He finished his drink half way through the appetizer and he didn't get a refill until I asked about it well after entrees were served. We had ordered the chicken strips and told her multiple times that she wanted honey mustard and they brought out buffalo sauce. Normally I would blame the kitchen for that but as soon as she saw it AFTER I brought it to her attention that it was spicy, she said "yeah, that's buffalo sauce". And then realized what I was saying. She just wasn't very attentive. Also, when we were ordering, she asked my husband if he wanted his Cesar salad out before the meal and he said yes. He never got it at all. When he told her that he no longer wanted it when our entrees came, Because he never received it, she said " that's because I didn't pick it up. It comes out with the rest of your food, so you no longer want it then?" So apparently you get great service when they aren't that busy, but not when they are. What a disappointment in my son's birthday. Started out with a wait for our drink order, then a wrong beer. We kept it because we were waiting so long. We had joined the email club and were to get a chips and queso, but it did not arrive until our entrees did. When we got our order, we ordered another round of beverages...that never happened. Big loss for Cheddar's, and for our waitresses' tip. When we got the food, we never got a side order or fries and two of the meals had one side order, not two. Orders included country fried chicken, broccoli casserole, corn, chicken tender and steak combo, baked sweet potato And an appetizer of onion rings. The onion rings were the best item out of our entire order. Country fried chicken was more like a larger version of the chicken strips but covered in gravy. All white meat, not a bone in sight. It was juicy but not what I expected and I didn't care for the breading. My husbands chicken strip meal looked nearly identical to my "fried chicken." Broccoli casserole was pretty dry and not much broccoli. Sweet potato was undercooked. The portion that was cooked and covered in the glaze stuff was delicious but the bottom part was nearly rock hard. Likely won't be coming back. Better options in the same area. read more
