Normally when I come here the experience is fairly good but as of late the service has taken a plunge down south. I've been here twice in the past month and I'm struggling to find something nice to say. The peach tea was a tad bit unsweet and the ribs lacked flavor. We have enjoyed Cheddar's for the past few years; however the restaurant hit its' third strike with us today. We understand one or two "bad" experiences but when you get three in a row, you're out and it will be a long time before we visit again. Today, we visited and, to lead with a positive, the food was good, but unfortunately, the service was just plain bad. Our waitress seemed to forget we were there and then would walk by and act surprised to see us. It took over forty minutes to get our food from the time we ordered and she never got out drink order correct nor brought the promised refills. I honestly think she just didn't enter our order, as she stopped by and asked if we were ready to order about 10 minutes after we placed our order. As stated earlier, this is the third poor experience we have had, so it will be a while before we visit again. read more

Favorite resturant! I went to Cheddars 2 nights in a row while in town and had the Chicken Pot Pie which was delicious and the second night had ribs and shrimp. Both times we ordered the onion rings and they were amazing. Everything was so inexpensive and the atmosphere is great. Go there!!! read more

Heading home from the hospital, this was a nice visit. The service was great, the the food was good. I am not sure what type of place this joint is trying to be but it is good all the way around. It reminds me of Bennigans from the 80's. That isn't a bad thing. The chicken fingers were a bit bready but overall a good stop. This is a winner for the local area. Zero complaints and a bunch of positives. If you choose to come here, you won't make a mistake. read more

We ate there for the second time this afternoon. I love the dark atmosphere. It's very relaxing. The wait staff is very friendly. Both times I ordered the steak and ribs combo. The steak was very tender and juicy, and the rib meat fell off the bone. My husband ordered ribs and chicken tender combo. The chicken tenders are huge! These combo platters are definitely worth the money. My favorite sides are the broccoli cheddar casserole, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes. I highly recommend this restaurant. I just moved into the area with my son and we wanted to try this place out...I am glad we did! The prices are fair and food was good! I had the full rack of ribs and they were good! I will definately be back for drinks on my own or with adult company. The prices on the drinks looked VERY reasonable and bar side was very welcoming! Seems to be a descent local crowd that knew each other or were friendly enough to give that appearance. The waiter we had was exceptional. I think he may have been trying to hard to impress my 14 year old, and could have been mistaken as "thugish" by the wrong person. He was great! Ah HA! This visit (as opposed to the earlier one), I am NOT on a liquid diet, so I ordered, and ate, the Chicken Pot Pie. No pot in there (ha!) but it was very satisfying. The hot fudge cake was quickly dispatched by five spoon-wielding eatists, and it was better than I dreamed it could ever be. This was our first time at a Cheddar's. Holy home Cookin' Batman! This place is awesome. I had the country fried steak. Karen had chicken pot pie. Service was fast and friendly. The manager came over and chatted with us as well. My only question was in the accuracy of the calorie counts on the menu. They had my meal listed at 970 calories. The steak was bigger than my head. I suspect if you finessed everything on that plate, it would be up in the 2000 calorie range. I did not and could not. read more

The food was okay... The service was slow, and the restaurant could use a good cleaning. The glass doors at the entrance have not seen windex and a paper towel in what appears to be since the restaurant opened. Family friendly, and will do for a basic meal in a pinch. I don't know what has happened to our "Cheddar's" but it's not the same anymore. We go there about once a week or so, and last week my chicken fingers were raw inside. Also, they seem to be in a state of panic, with most of the servers almost running all over each other to get where they were going. I think they have down-sized the staff and oh-by-the-way - those wonderful, delicious chicken fingers - they're gone. Replaced by random chicken parts things that make Chick-fil-A chicken seem gourmet. I don't think we'll be back to this Cheddar's location anytime soon. Such a shame b/c until last week the food was great and of course the prices are reasonable - but raw chicken? No thank you. BTW - the photo here of the chicken is the "old" really good chicken, not the new stuff. Even after they brought me a second plate of it ( this time cooked ) it was sub par. read more

Fairly pretty bad. My wife and daughter were there tonight. Wife and daughter ordered chicken and pasta salads. I ordered a 8oz sirloin steak medium. Ordered 2 cokes and they gave us 2 diet cokes. Said oh sorry we ran out of coke. Duh. Don't try to pull the wool over our eyes. The steak came raw. Sent it back and re cooked the same cut into steak. Duh, does a real restaurant really throw back the under cooked steak back on the grill. I don't think so. Steak came back still raw. I said forget get about it. I need nothing further form the kitchen thanks. There was a sign outside saying hiring now. Maybe they need a new cook. We have been there in the past. When it first opened it was pretty good. Slowly it has gotten really bad. I wish only for them to get really good again. The pic is from the end piece. First visit at the Cheddars chain and I was fairly impressed. A menu that was filled with appetizers and entrees that were averaged priced. Service was excellent and the wait time for a Saturday afternoon was minimal. Meal was a tad slow coming from the kitchen but was well worth the wait. The food here is delicious and a majority of the servers are great. Occasionally I will get one of those servers that just don't care, but my food is still great. I love the chicken pot pie and the combos of meats you can do for your entrée. There drinks are pretty good for a restaurant. Overall great place to enjoy with family and friends. read more

Went for lunch. I had never been here before. On first impressions, it looked very nice both inside and out. Noise level was average. Someone came quickly to get our drinks, but the server was very slow to arrive, even slower to return for our order when we were not ready on her first arrival...I thought she was never coming back...and then we had to search for her to get our check. I never got a refill for my drink, ever. So I ordered it to go and then she brought the wrong drink. It took us over an hour and a quarter to get a lunch and get out, and I amsure it was only that quickly because we got up and went forward to pay...forcing a response. The Caesar salad was delicious. The Sweet Heat Chicken and Shrimp entreè was also pretty good. The grilled chicken on my plate was a little tough to cut and chew in some places because it had been somewhat scorched on the grill. Other than that, it was pretty delicious. It was presented in a funny way though, because they sent it out on a large plate on the rice bed, but with nothing else on it. A very strange presentation indeed. Tasty, enough, and nice looking otherwise. I want not impressed with the service or food presentation, but the food was good enough that I would definitely be willing to give it a second try. read more

We visited Cheddars for the first time on Tuesday evening, around 6:30 and the service was very slow. The place was not busy and it took 10 minutes for the server to even take our drink order. This restaurant has been a favorite for my wife and me for quite some time. Over the years that it has been here in Gainesville, it has went through ups and downs in management and staff that were noticeable with regard to the quality of service and food; however, over the last year they had been doing so well. That said, my wife and I had an absolutely horrible experience Friday of this week when she was served some absolutely rancid coleslaw with her meal. It took my wife about three minutes to recover from taking a bite of this coleslaw: meaning she felt like she was going to vomit, she wasn't sure she could finish her meal, it really made her wonder about the rest of her plate - whether the meet was good or not, etc. The reason I changed my review to one star is because when the manager came out she did what I would call a "flyby," meaning she just dumped off my wife's second Choice, which was broccoli, and didn't even ask about our experience or if we might want to be comped for the displeasure we had just suffered. I worked in the restaurant industry for eight years. Let me make it plain to some of you managers out there that don't get it: when people come to a restaurant and pay to eat food, they are paying you for the experience and for the food, not just for the food. I can cook my own food at home. If a customer has an experience that ruins their meal they should be comped without question because you have failed to deliver both a good meal and a pleasurable experience - which is part of the meal! Quit trying to be cheap and stick your customer with lousy service or a lousy meal and walk away. Now, my wife is unsure whether she trusts the kitchen at cheddars in Gainesville. If you have rancid cold slaw, it's possible that you have rancid meat as well. We won't be going back unless we hear from somebody from corporate offering us to be comped. read more

My husband and I moved to this area last summer, and were so excited to have Cheddar's nearby. The Gainesville location is very slow . We have waited over 45 minutes to receive our food all three times we have visited. The food is good but customer service is poor. It wasn't a terrible experience, but not a fantastic one either. This was our first visit to a Cheddar's, and we had heard good things, so were expecting a positive experience. We were seated immediately, and our server greeted us pretty quickly. We ordered the spinach dip, which came out in good time and was served piping hot. The server informed us that the dish came with unlimited chips and salsa and if we wanted more, all we had to do was ask. However, we didn't see her again until we were almost done with our entrees. Fortunately, we didn't need any additional chips, but had we desired any, we wouldn't have been able to ask. I ordered the chicken and shrimp which was served over rice with a mango salsa. I had the green beans and a sweet potato for sides. My husband had the tilapia and shrimp along with black beans and a sweet potato. The food, while definitely tasty, was served tepid, at best. I would not even call it warm, which was a bit of a turn off. Nevertheless, we finished our main course and decided to order dessert. The description of the dessert we ordered included a "Legendary giant" cookie, which was promised to be baked fresh to order in a large skillet. I should have taken a picture of what we received. The cookie was not large at all, and I certainly wouldn't describe it as "giant". It didn't even fill half the skillet, nor was it fresh baked. It was crunchy, and somewhat stale tasting...not even warm. The ice cream and fudge sauce were both good, but I would never attach a description such as "legendary" to such disappointing dessert. We would consider giving this place another try, but overall, it was disappointing. read more

3 bad experiences - My husband called in an order over the phone this afternoon and was hung up on twice. The 3rd time he called he was put on hold for 8 minutes. It then took another 7-8 minutes to place our small order and the order taker kept making mistakes. He was told it would be ready in 45 minutes. My husband arrives to pick up the order and is told it would be ready in 10 minutes. After 30 minutes and being told 2 more times that our order was almost ready, the manager finally checks and tells him that our order cannot be found anywhere in their system. Seriously? My husband even had to show the manager his call log to prove he had spoken to someone at this location!! We will never return to this place again - this is the 3rd bad experience in a row we have received from this establishment either over the phone or inside the restaurant. It is 2020 - they need to get a more efficient, online system because their's isn't working. The food is not good enough to put up with continual bad experiences. read more

My husband and I were at Cheddars today at 6:30 PM, Aug. 29, 2016. We were greeted and seated at a table. We sat there for 15 min. while the waiter was talking to some girls and totaling ignoring us. We didn't even get a drink order. We got up and went and told the girl at the door and left. It wouldn't have been as bad if they had been busy but they weren't.
