Went here on Saturday. Pretty busy at 5pm but had reservations. There was 6 of us and we got the table right on the front corner. Ordered drinks, apps and mains. Everything took a bit and I think they lost our main ticket and had to get them fired. We've been here maybe 3 times and have been in a while. The food was just as good. We had the bruschetta cotto, meatballs and calamari. Everything was just as good as I remembered. The calamari was exceptional. I ordered the paparradelle with bolognese. Others ordered lasagna, the medallions of filet, rigatoni. Everything was delicious but a bit too salty. The sauce is salty but tasty. Pasta was cooked well. Al dente. Everyone enjoyed their food. The filet was good, potatoes above average. We ordered dessert and it took almost 30 minutes before it can out. Dinner took 2.5 hours. Food 5 Service 3

We have been wanting to try this place for a long while now and luckily we were able to get seated without a reservation on this past Sunday evening. Immediately the staff were extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions. We started with a glass of wine for myself and a margarita which was a special for my wife. My three years old of course drank water. Anyway, we tried the calamari and the bruschetta for an appetizer because I'm a sucker for bruschetta. It was a nice twist on a traditional recipe with stacciatella and a fantastic balsamic glaze. Even my wife liked it who's picky on balsamic, tomatoes, and bread. I had the "Pesto Tortallini" which was really good. It was a large portion for the price and definitely filling! My wife had the "Risotto Alla Milanese" which was also a generous place with leftovers to take home. My son had a vegetable spaghetti and devoured it! It's definitely worth a visit if you're in town or local. While the price is more upscale it's worth it and we will be back for sure.

Easily one of our favorite places in Gainesville GA. We arrived early for our 630 reservation and were seated early. We ordered drinks to wait for our guests. Our waitress Miriam did a great job throughout our visit even took a great picture of our group of 4. We started with calamari, that was crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside a very tasty appetizer. Nest she had the cacio e pepe (fat spaghetti cheese amd pepper) she loved the entree. I had the special that had grouper over risotto and so much more. This was an absolute homerun entree. We finished off with the flourless chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream on top. For a monday, the place was very busy. This place was on our regular rotation when we lived here. A neighborhood gem for sure. When in town, we will visit again

Wow! Just everything was amazing! The service, the atmosphere and ALL the food. Went for my son's birthday and my entire family had the best time! Of course we all tried each others and seriously, everything was amazing! This is maybe the first time we all ate every bite! And tell me why, the side potato's were delicious! 10 out of 10. Go here!! I can't say enough good things.

Hands down, the best restaurant in Gainesville. Every time I've been here, the staff is very friendly and welcoming, the restaurant is very clean, well appointed, and has a great atmosphere. However, their food is where they really shine. The bruschetta is amazing, the lasagna rivals my all time favorite in Chicago, and this time the lobster ravioli was totally worth the higher price point. Through and through, this is a fabulous restaurant and they deserve the high rating they have.

Outstanding food and service. We eat at the bar and it was absolutely fantastic. Great service.

Really good dining experience! Tasty food and professional, friendly, accommodating service -- Thanks Kathryn (see photo)! Must say that Kathryn was as good a server as I have encountered in my travels and at home (and so eat out 200+ times a year). Really. The food? - Tasty martini. My pasta dish, with bolognese sauce, was memorable. The steak was good, not special. Olive appetizer and fresh spinach was tasty. Wonderful cannoli. Ambiance nice, although I sat at the bar, which was a great experience because of Kathryn. Seating hosts need better training. Regrettably, I found them to be quite unwelcoming -- a sharp contrast to Kathryn and the other bartender/server (a reheated woman (sorry I didn't catch her name) who was very conscientious and attentive, and friendly). No doubt this is or should be one of the best restaurants in Gainesville.

Drinks were amazing. My cocktail was a cross between a mule and margarita. The goat cheese prosciutto app was sweet and savory with the honey. My veal with lemon and capers over pasta was light and my go to since I don't make veal at home. I will find a reason to get to the Gainesville square!

    Papardelle Ragu (short on flavor).

We wandered in here on a cold evening, and this was a welcome spot as it was warm and cozy. We started with salads, my wife had the Caesar and I had the house. She liked her Caesar and my House would've been good, but it was super drenched in salad dressing. For entrées, my wife had the Seafood Fra Diavlo, she liked the seafood but the main thing you taste with this dishes just flat out spice/heat, way too much for me. I had the Pappardelle Ragu. Portion was a nice size, pasta was cooked to perfection, but unfortunately the Ragu fell way flat on flavor. Service was adequate. I really wanted to like this place because it has a great atmosphere and I will give them another try, yet on this first visit the food just didn't quite hit the mark.

Alright, this is one of those times that I must say some honest words that aren't all glowing and…read morepositive but I shall be fair as well. This is a good restaurant on the verge of greatness, short version. The longer version reads like this: First, the service here at Sanctuary on the Square is warm, fast, a pleasant feel. And the space itself is cool, on an awesome little small downtown square, so lots of positives to mention. Now, I LOVE tapas. IMO it is a cuisine tailored to the show off chef, but that also means it must be done with flair, beauty and flavor. LOTS of flavor... and that's what was missing here tonight. The goat cheese croquettes were nice and the shrimp scampi was too, but is "nice" what the kitchen is hoping to hear? I'm thinking not. Even the blue cheese on the gorgeous wedge salad was a tad underwhelming. Three dishes and I did not finish even one of them. Now, to be fair, I have very high standards and a breadth of food experience, so if the kitchen insists I expect too much, they could be on to something. And honestly I'd bet this was a mid-week off night, so ultimately I suggest you give it a try and decide for yourself. For me, though, it came in just under the standard I'm looking for. Cheers until the next one!

This is a review for the Easter brunch only…read more I'm sure my grandparents would've loved this place if they were still around. You got your white tablecloths, rooms full of retirees, and a vibe that hasn't changed much since the Reagan administration. Unfortunately, there was none of that live music that this place is known for. My family and I came for the Easter brunch buffet @ $55/person. The menu looked great: herb crusted prime rib at the carving station, shrimp and grits, Belgian waffles, deviled eggs, bourbon glazed carrots, cheesecake dessert squares. But the reality was that it's more like an upscale hotel breakfast. Safe, mostly bland, and probably exactly what the "usual" crowd there was looking for. The bacon was overcooked and shriveled. The deviled eggs didn't even have any paprika. And who puts a giant vat of syrup BEFORE the waffles? And their signature strawberry punch would've tasted way better chilled or iced instead of being kept at room temperature. The prime rib was what made it all worth it. It was tender, juicy, cooked just right, and the horseradish took care of their seasoning problem. That carving station is what saves the day along with the fantastic staff. Even the manager was great to talk to. I just wish the rest of the food was better than "meh." A couple of tips: call for reservations, there's no online booking. Parking is annoying because of the app. If you don't have a walker, just use the giant free public lot one block over on Main Street. Also, the "Order" button on their website goes nowhere. Maybe just replace it with "Menu," Luna. Looks like Mother's Day is getting the breakfast buffet brunch encore, so if you want to experience what I did, go for it. I probably won't be back even though the regular menu looks interesting.

There was an aura in the air when we got here, i swear im not being dramatic. The smell of the food hit us walking up, but it wasnt over-powering...it was just the right "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" amount. Our waiter was attentive and consisent with checking on us and asking about quality - while answering other tables which im sure is difficult. I wasnt able to quite catch his name - but that is on our part since we didnt let him know we hadn't heard when he did say his name. The other waiter that brought out the food was also kind. The food was of course delicious, unsuprising since the other reveiws had already raved so much to the point it was honestly kind of expected. The steaks on both plates had been cooked to perfection - my husband and I are grateful to the chef that unknowingly gave us such a wonderful anniversary dinner. The Mozzerella Mac & Cheese had such depth of favor. The cheese though... we are absolutely suspecting the chef of using gouda! Smokey and rich in flavor - thoroughly creamy & cheesy with such consistent flavoring... we loved it. The fries were homemade and delicous, not much to say besides the fact they didnt taste of chemical preservatives whatsoever. In fact, I think at one point both our stomach thanked us for eating this wonderful food. My drinks were delicious, we got the Georgia Mule and then the margarita that is also on the drink menu. Both were delicious but the Georgia Mule was refreshing! Hands down the best we have ever tried. The weather, sun, and love of my life definetely played a part of this reveiw - I must be honest of my bias. The band that was playing on 03/24/2026 was great. If I could compare the vocalist I would say they sound exactly that of the singer "Hozier". Thank you to everyone that played a role in the experience.
