Carne en su jugo (braised skirt steak strips, with tomatillos, beans, bacon and a beautiful broth).

Finally found a Mexican restaurant that wasn't the same old same old, nothing special kinda place. Consuelo has your food, drink, and service covered! The Carne en su jugo (braised skirt steak strips, with tomatillos, beans, bacon and a beautiful broth) was our favorite! Margarita flight was really fun too! Come, bring your amigos and amigas. Ask for Kylie, she was amazing and knows her menu!

I work in the square so I've visited maybe 2-3 times now & i love how clean and quick service is. I got the ceviche flight with the ginger lemonade, OMG that lemonade it's a 20/10! The ceviche, i wasn't the biggest fan but if you like chilaquiles, id recommend those for sure with the steak. I'll have to try more items to rank up my review, not fair to give 2 stars and only try the basics.

We love this place! Everything about the experience is thoughtful. The decor, the bar, the presentation of the food and especially the service. We are typically bar sitters. I enjoy watching bartenders with skills and Consuelo doesn't disappoint. I'm a mocktailer and appreciate that there are beautiful choices that are not an afterthought. Started with the ceviche ... 5 stars.. Pollo en Mole Verde was excellent. A new taste adventure that did not disappoint. Look forward to my next visit!

Great place just off the square in downtown Gainesville. We only had drinks and a dessert. The drinks were amazing, and the bar was fully seated - a testament to the popularity of that portion of the business. Mixed drinks are going to run you about $15, not cheap, but I would say a good value given the fresh ingredients and the quality. My Four Roses Bourbon Margarita was very "satisfying". The cheesecake, as recommended by Katie - our server, was amazing. I have to say she was top notch, and could tell she really enjoyed her job there. The manager (presumably owner) also stopped by a couple of times and was very personable as well. We look forward to returning for a full meal. Can't wait! Keep up the great work Consuelo!

Consuelo serves the best Mexican food I've ever had, it truly made me feel like I was in Mexico. The flavors were authentic and unforgettable, and I was so impressed with their vegan/plant-based options, they were absolutely delicious! The service was perfect: attentive, friendly, and thoughtful. I especially appreciated the small details, like the pole next to the table for your purse or hat. The decor is a perfect blend of comfort and class, making the whole experience even better. Can't wait to go back!

Great service and even better cocktails!! Lately everything has given me a headache but this is the first time I've had some cocktails without a headache. My friend had the Margarita flight which was beautifully presented. I had a grapefruit cocktail which was refreshing and great. The fish tacos were HUGE (thankfully we split them)and crispy. We can't wait to come back.

Consuelo's is such a hidden gem in Gainesville! The enchiladas verdes are always a favorite of mine: flavorful, comforting, and perfectly balanced. I always get extra sauce. But the real standout for me is their tres leches. I've had a lot of tres leches cakes, and theirs is easily one of the best. Moist, creamy, and just melts in your mouth. Don't skip it! The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and every time I've been, the service has been just as great as the food. Definitely one of my go-to spots when I'm craving something that hits the spot without feeling too heavy. Highly recommend! Try their spicy Paloma! Delicious

    Molcajete

We had such a great meal at Consuelo! The restaurant itself is beautiful! Warm lighting, stylish décor, and a super inviting atmosphere as well as staff. We ordered the octopus, guacamole, enchiladas, chicken soup, and the molcajete, and everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. The octopus was perfectly cooked and tender, the guacamole was well-seasoned, and the chicken soup tasted like true comfort food. The enchiladas were packed with flavor, and the molcajete was a standout! Generous portions, sizzling hot, and loaded with meats. Service was friendly and attentive! Walter was our waiter and was very helpful and knowledgeable about the restaurant and the food. Highly recommend if you're in the Gainesville area and want delicious, authentic Mexican food in a great atmosphere.

    Huevos con chorizo.

Legit!! Super good Mexican food; best Latin food I've had since we moved from south Florida. Can't recommend enough. My daughter and I stopped in with a craving for some good Mexican food and this place was such a delight. Highly recommend it for anyone in Gainesville, or nearby. If we are within 20-30 minutes again, I will make it a point to go out of my way to revisit. The tortillas were straight out of the fryer, and the salsa verde was the best I've ever had. Definitely recommend the chips and salsa app. My daughter got a chicken quesadilla which was very good, but the guac that came with it was awesome. I got the Huevos con Chorizo and it was stellar. The white beans that came with it, dios mios! Unfortunately we only stayed one night or we would have revisited. We will certainly go back.

    Octopus Appetizer

Hands down the best restaurant in Gainesville, maybe all of metro Atlanta. The vibe is always right, margaritas next level and food top notch. Service has always been above and beyond, my "go-to" spot when I want to take friends or family out.

These were triple enchiladas I believe we're black bean Verde and red sauce, meaty, flavorful, delicious

I had the pleasure of having lunch here the other day with my son and my ex-wife, and we had a fantastic meal! Service was impeccable, but the menu was even more so diverse, real deal, authentic I believe Venezuelan cuisine and other central, and Mexican influences, but had the best flavors I've had in quite a while They're Mole sauce and chicken leg dish. The Consuela was simple but fabulous. Pickled onions and chicken with sauce and tortillas was all needed and it was fantastic. Simple tasty a little pricey, but this is not a low end restaurant. We ordered a flight of tequila. Drinks to Tri. All were independently spectacular well presented, and again the service we got from our young server was impeccable!!! we also had the enchiladas which we ended up splitting between three of us because it was so much food and we actually all shared much of the dishes together. We even got the beef tongue which I normally would not have eaten but our server insured we would like it, and he was not wrong. Full bar, great atmosphere, and another grade addition to the Gainesville Square. Highly recommend.!!

AMAZING SERVICE, AMBIANCE, & FOOD!!!! One of the best places I have ever been to! I came here with my partner to celebrate our anniversary and I'm so glad I chose this place. Our server, Santiago, was very kind and attentive. Anyone saying this isn't authentic has never had authentic Mexican food. Everything was absolutely delicious and I have no complaints. The horchata was the best we have both had. It appeared very busy when we showed up so I'm glad we made a reservation, so I definitely recommend so you're not waiting too long.

This is a good restaurant on the verge of greatness, short version. The longer version reads like this: First, the service here at Sanctuary on the Square is warm, fast, a pleasant feel. And the space itself is cool, on an awesome little small downtown square, so lots of positives to mention. Now, I LOVE tapas. IMO it is a cuisine tailored to the show off chef, but that also means it must be done with flair, beauty and flavor. LOTS of flavor... and that's what was missing here tonight. The goat cheese croquettes were nice and the shrimp scampi was too, but is "nice" what the kitchen is hoping to hear? I'm thinking not. Even the blue cheese on the gorgeous wedge salad was a tad underwhelming. Three dishes and I did not finish even one of them. Now, to be fair, I have very high standards and a breadth of food experience, so if the kitchen insists I expect too much, they could be on to something. And honestly I'd bet this was a mid-week off night, so ultimately I suggest you give it a try and decide for yourself. For me, though, it came in just under the standard I'm looking for. Cheers until the next one!

We started with drinks and I had the tequila mule which was good. A little weak but ok. We started with great apps and even talked with one of the owners on how much we love their restaurant, service and music. They play 80s new wave music which we love. We had 3 small plates which was great. A little too much breading in the crab cakes but over all really flavorful. For our entree we had the garlic bites and Bessel sprouts. The Brussels sprout was just ok, needed a sweet component. The garlic bites were inedible and tough. Just awful. Ambiance 5 Service 5 Food 3 For me it's all about the food and unfortunately the garlic bites ruined it for me.

This is a review for the Easter brunch only…read more I'm sure my grandparents would've loved this place if they were still around. You got your white tablecloths, rooms full of retirees, and a vibe that hasn't changed much since the Reagan administration. Unfortunately, there was none of that live music that this place is known for. My family and I came for the Easter brunch buffet @ $55/person. The menu looked great: herb crusted prime rib at the carving station, shrimp and grits, Belgian waffles, deviled eggs, bourbon glazed carrots, cheesecake dessert squares. But the reality was that it's more like an upscale hotel breakfast. Safe, mostly bland, and probably exactly what the "usual" crowd there was looking for. The bacon was overcooked and shriveled. The deviled eggs didn't even have any paprika. And who puts a giant vat of syrup BEFORE the waffles? And their signature strawberry punch would've tasted way better chilled or iced instead of being kept at room temperature. The prime rib was what made it all worth it. It was tender, juicy, cooked just right, and the horseradish took care of their seasoning problem. That carving station is what saves the day along with the fantastic staff. Even the manager was great to talk to. I just wish the rest of the food was better than "meh." A couple of tips: call for reservations, there's no online booking. Parking is annoying because of the app. If you don't have a walker, just use the giant free public lot one block over on Main Street. Also, the "Order" button on their website goes nowhere. Maybe just replace it with "Menu," Luna. Looks like Mother's Day is getting the breakfast buffet brunch encore, so if you want to experience what I did, go for it. I probably won't be back even though the regular menu looks interesting.

There was an aura in the air when we got here, i swear im not being dramatic. The smell of the food hit us walking up, but it wasnt over-powering...it was just the right "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" amount. Our waiter was attentive and consisent with checking on us and asking about quality - while answering other tables which im sure is difficult. I wasnt able to quite catch his name - but that is on our part since we didnt let him know we hadn't heard when he did say his name. The other waiter that brought out the food was also kind. The food was of course delicious, unsuprising since the other reveiws had already raved so much to the point it was honestly kind of expected. The steaks on both plates had been cooked to perfection - my husband and I are grateful to the chef that unknowingly gave us such a wonderful anniversary dinner. The Mozzerella Mac & Cheese had such depth of favor. The cheese though... we are absolutely suspecting the chef of using gouda! Smokey and rich in flavor - thoroughly creamy & cheesy with such consistent flavoring... we loved it. The fries were homemade and delicous, not much to say besides the fact they didnt taste of chemical preservatives whatsoever. In fact, I think at one point both our stomach thanked us for eating this wonderful food. My drinks were delicious, we got the Georgia Mule and then the margarita that is also on the drink menu. Both were delicious but the Georgia Mule was refreshing! Hands down the best we have ever tried. The weather, sun, and love of my life definetely played a part of this reveiw - I must be honest of my bias. The band that was playing on 03/24/2026 was great. If I could compare the vocalist I would say they sound exactly that of the singer "Hozier". Thank you to everyone that played a role in the experience.
