My wife suggested we go to Cheddar's and I said that's a great idea since I had purchased a gift card from a friend. She ordered the coconut shrimp and ribs and I ordered the cornmeal coated white fish. The servings were more than generous and tasted delicious. But the servers mistakenly switched our sauces on the table and when I tasted mine it ruined the taste of the fish. When we notified the manager, he did remedy the situation by giving us another piece of fish and an extra shrimp. The waitress was pleasant and helpful but should have cleared our table of our plates once we were finished. Across from our table there were French fries that had fallen and remained there until after we left. The music (for lack of a better term; modern music has undecipherable lyrics) was more suited for getting up to dance than comfortable casual dining. Suggestions: Waitress should be more attentive. Service by Keesha was excellent. We ordered the Wisconsin cheese bites as an appetizer. The cheese was melted, and the outside was crispy. The cheese it's self was very salty so we did not eat most of it. I ordered a burger that was supposed to come with fried jalapeños on top of it. They jalapeños were cold and soggy. I was also told that they made their hamburgers and house. This is not so. When the cook came out to bring me fresh jalapeños I asked him about the burger and was told that they come frozen in the box. I took two bites, It was not the least bit enjoyable so I sent it back. We had Jonathan for a server, and he was extremely sweet and one of the better servers I've ever had. I'm pretty picky about servers after being one for close to a decade through high school and college. He impressed me throughout the entire experience. The food was super tasty and came in enormous portions. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the food took quite a while. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Within a years time, we have giving this restaurant several times to redeem themselves... to no avail. In fact, every time we go back, our visits are worse! The alcoholic drinks have next to no alcohol in them. I watched the bar tender make them. My Texas Tea tasted almost the same as my husband's regular tea, except mine had a whole lot of sweet and sour mix. Tasted pretty bad. Again, my husband's fries have been refried! This has happened in the last 3 visits. The cook actually took fries which were already fried before and were seating under a light and refried them once again!!! I do not feel that we have to say, " please make my fries fresh" when we order. Everything should be fresh! My fish, white grilled fish was totally undercooked and was cold. This tells me that it was sitting under a light as well. Both my husband and I were very disappointed once more. My visit to the bathroom was disgusting. All 4 stalls were filthy. Toilet seats were so dirty. Floors were coved in toilet paper. Sinks were wet and dirty. I understand that some customers are not careful and don't care if they make a mess however it was apparent to me those bathrooms had not been cleaned nor checked on that day. Keep in mind we went on a Saturday at 5:00 p.m.. The restaurant was neatly empty. Money is hard to come by and we like to treat ourselves to a nice dinner at least once a week. I just left from this place very disappointed. When my 1 year old daughter and I went in the Hostess was very very nice and friendly, which is always a great thing and really appreciated. The only thing I did not like from the Hostess was she asked if I needed a highchair and when she brung one over, it was disgusting. It was sticky with old food everywhere. Usually it is obvious that the meal came pre made and was assembled but they were not ; guess the scratch etc on the sign was more than marketing. I had the salad and monte christo : exactly what I expected , salad was crisp, not over dressed, monte came out as a ham and cheese inside a waffle - yes not a health choice but the chemo guy gets to eat anything to keep his weight up so it was good. They used strawberry instead of raspberry which was ok and the home chips were hot and sufficient. Place is garbage, I have frequented it often as of lately and it has always been ok. The last two times were unacceptable. The last time I went there before today my food took forever then came out ice cold. I was in a hurry and I am not one to complain. I ate it and paid Today, me and girlfriend are sat next to a table with 5 children will plenty other tables around. After about 20 minutes our waiter arrives and I ask him to move tables and he explains I can only move to the other two adjacent tables since the others were out of his section. Weary night after cleaning more Hurricane Harvey debris and damage, it was late and we were all starving. Someone suggested Cheddars and it wasn't crowded when we arrived about 830. Pretty brick building outside and inside reminiscent of the old Steak n Ale chain. We were seated in a booth whose seats were too low and studied the menu. Lots to choose from including the usual bar appetizers, salads, barbecued ribs and chicken, pasta, burgers and some desserts. We ordered drinks, house salads, onion rings to munch on and the rib/chicken plate, the burger with cheese and the chicken fried steak plate. Service was friendly but goofy, long periods of waiting between courses and the place was not busy. Onion rings when they finally came were excellent, crispy and satisfying with two dipping sauces. House salads were fine too but our waitperson served two of us first while the third person had to wait another 10 minutes for the same salad. Entrees finally came and they were ok, the ribs probably the best choice. Alas, the hostess started vacuuming the floor right next to us long before we were finished ewwww. We also had a very loud family argument going on in the booth across from us; it got louder and louder and made us uncomfortable. We were immediately seated and our drink orders were taken. Cole was great keeping our drinks full. I am not sure what the heck was going on in the kitchen. Why did it take over 45 minutes to get our food? The couple sitting next to us got theirs and had finished and we were still waiting. Cole kept saying he was not sure what was going on. We did not order anything fancy, just a burger, a salad and a sandwich. When our food finally arrived it was not even hot. Portions were small. For the price, I expected a bigger plate. I never saw the manager walking around. I would have told him to fire his kitchen staff. Toward the end of our meal, Cole was no where to be found. He brought the check and this disappeared. I had to check the check to make sure he did not overcharge me. There were a few birthdays going on but this place was not very busy at all to warrant the slow service. My kids were fussing and whining. Cole could have offered an appetizer to hold us over. Then again, it probably would have taken over 45 minutes to get that too. I did check Yelp while we sat there and noticed the great reviews. I am wondering what the heck happened with this place? This place has gone way down hill. When I checked into my hotel, I told the lady at the desk that the service was horrible and she replied, "Oh yeah but its the cheapest place in town." Thanks. We have eaten at a Cheddar's before, So I was expecting the same long waits to get seated. I was shocked to find that during the early evening ours the place was busy but we were seated immediately. WOW. That were our enjoyment end. The places was absolutely filthy. Someone dropped a salad at the edge of our table, and no one had or was bothering the clean it up. When the then appetizer came out, they were cold-fried cheese sticks, which was OK because they didn't have bring out extra plates. The entrees came our about 30 minutes later. What the food lacked in favor and temperature, it was makeup for in their serving size. OMG, the were massive. Enough food to take home. Which may have been good for a local, but we were traveling. However, I went to grab a "quick" lunch with my family (which turned out to be over 2 hours). First, we got sat promptly by our waitress and she seemed nice at first. She brought us drinks and we placed our order for cheese fries then some onion rings. She came back with the fries quickly. We ate the fries and waited for her to come back so we could eat our onion rings and place our orders. We waited at least 15 minutes for her to come back to the table to at least check on us. She never came so we asked someone to grab her. She came back with an attitude stating that she was waiting for our onion rings to come out.. First of all onion rings do not take long to cook and why would you sit there waiting for them? I've been a server for many years and a good server wouldn't just be sitting there waiting when they could be making sure all the customers are taken care of. Just saying. I placed my order (trying to ignore her bad attitude) but my aunt asked if everything was ok and the waitress went off on her saying that we can get the manager or another server. We quickly got the manager and another server. After that the server was pleasant and the manager was helpful. That's when we finally got our onion rings and placed our food order (after a hour of being there. Everything was fine from there. Needless to say the drinks are cheap. The food is cheap and decent. The hosts and wait staff are generally always friendly and never to bad of a wait. The only real problems I've ever had here always originate in the kitchen. For instance; I ordered blackened salmon and it was sent out without ANY seasoning on it(literally not even salt). I sent it back only for it to return with their blackening rub just poured on top of the now cold salmon. The manager brought me a new order that was perfectly cooked and erased my bill, which was more than I expected. All in all my partner and I come here often. Now I know I should feel complemented, but she was serious. I'm in my 50's and my parents are in their 90's. My father couldn't find his and my mother had to dig for it. She would not give in, said it was Texas law to check everyones..(no it isn't).. The food: Overall the food was good except the salmon which tasted real fishy and not fresh. Cheddar's is normally one of my "go to" restaurants, with consistently great values, great food, large portions, and good service. I don't even bother checking Yelp ratings for some chains (only when I'm searching for something new), but with an experience like this, I may start. The Yelp app really needs a feature when you pull into a restaurant parking lot that warns you "Don't even think about eating here!" for restaurants like this. My son and I arrived well after normal dinner time, there were quite a few close parking spaces, and quite a few people were leaving,so I figured the wait (if any) would be minimal. We were quoted 25 minutes, which seemed excessive, and sure enough our buzzer went off about 5 minutes later. The waiter made it over to our table fairly quickly and took our order. Water for both of us. Spasagna for my son. Ribeye with a baked potato and mac and cheese for me. (If you haven't tried Cheddar's new mac and cheese, it's awesome -- everywhere but here.) FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER, our food finally came out. I noticed the butter wasn't melted on my baked potato so I touched it and realized it was room temperature and told the waiter before he left. He said he would bring another. We started eating. My steak was cold, tough, and one of the most gristly I had ever seen (and I typically eat steak about 3-5 times a week). My son commented that his spasagna was warm in spots and cold in spots. The mac and cheese was okay, but lacked the bread crumb topping. The waiter returned with my replacement baked potato (which was also cold) and I told him about the steak and spasgna. He said he would have a manager come over. When the manager came over, I told him about the excessive wait, the cold food, and the gristly steak. The manager apologized and said he would have everything replaced quickly. 30 MINUTES LATER, our replacement food came out. We had to ask the waiter for more silverware because they had removed ours when they took the cold food. It was better. The steak was edible. The spasagna was warm. The baked potato was slightly warm. The mac and cheese was about the same. When we were done, I asked the waiter for the check and was surprised when he brought a $0 ticket. The manager had comped the meal and just didn't tell us. He also didn't check back with us after the replacement food came out. Wife and I got here about 5:30pm so the dinner rush hadn't had a chance to kick in and we got seated promptly and drink order taken within a couple minutes. As we were seated, I noticed a lot of foot scraps and napkins on the carpeted floor in the table area in the middle of the restaurant. These stayed on the floor during our entire time there. We also had visitors we didn't expect or welcome: flies. Lots of them. Additionally, the carpeted area was filthy. I couldn't quite tell if the carpeting was threadbare or simply so dirty that was matted and looked threadbare. The butcher block style tables either need sanding and sealing...or replacing. It was really disappointing to see how much needs doing to make this place presentable. The food we ordered was adequate...steaks cooked properly. But honestly, not super flavorful and the sides were somewhat underwhelming. I had first come to this Cheddar's shortly after their opening and we had a great time. But it needs a LOT of attention paid to cleaning and refurbishing to bring the atmosphere/experience back to a presentable state.
