This is a walk in and order at the counter kind of place. The menu is along the wall, order your dish, and serve your own drinks. Food is brought out to you at the table. My group and I did have a very nice server who also took our order at the counter. I heard Nolan's is popular for their poor boys so I ordered a bbq poor boy. The portion is a good size and comes with a side (I chose fries). Maybe I should have ordered something else? The brisket was dry and no smoke flavor. Sausage was dry and mealy in texture. Food was subpar at best. The girl that answered the phone needs more training, I originally wanted the shrimp poorboy but she told me the only things that came on it(when I asked) was shrimp and bread...so I went with the shrimp salad, which I assumed would be just shrimp and salad, that was my fault. Also ordered a burger and it was so greasy that it made the bun really mushy and fall apart. But the hamburger patty did taste good. The cashier was very nice and helpful when I paid. read more

If I'm wrong, I don't want to be right. But Nolan's has one of the tastiest cheesesteak sandwiches around. No frills, meat to cheese to peppers ratio on point, soft buttery roll. I know it's not exactly what they're know for but it's my favorite thing on the menu. read more

Been going to Nolan's for 50 years. First one for me was on Weber, then Weber and SPID, then Five Points, then Airline. Food has always been good (not great). The poor boys are its main staple. But, I went recently and decided it's NOT worth it anymore. We had two poor boy meals with tea. Tea is $3.09!!!! Total it was over $34 without a tip. That's freaking outrageous. Place was empty. This restaurant had great staff. Was my first visit there, and the staff helped guide me through the menu and how the ordering worked. The fried shrimp was good, and I enjoyed the fried okra and potato salad. There were TV's with the football game playing so that was nice background noise. read more

I remember when the first Nolans on Alameda. I also remember the one off Airline. I didn't feel like cooking or eating left overs today and my husband suggested Nolan's (Yorktown one). Customer Service was great. Young lady at the front counter was very helpful and polite. Unfortunately, it is very disappointing for dinner service Nolan's is always out of soup. It never fails. For reference, my wife and I are dinning @ 7:04pm on a Thursday night. They were also out of baked potatoes and honestly just made the dining experience bad. Food was not bad at all. I had the cattleman Sandwich and my wife had the cheeseburger steak. I order a medium ribeye steak for the cattlemen but did come more medium well to well done. Still good. Wife food was good. My apologies for not take a picture of the hoggie bun for the cattleman. I order it on the side so it would get soggy. read more

Cinco de Mayo and a crazy night to Find a restaurant without at least an hour's wait for our party of four adults. We stopped here, an old standby in a newish shopping center on the southwest side. Ordering takes place at the counter in front of the giant menus on the wall. You pick up your beer, sodas, or tea and then go sit down and wait for your order to be delivered. All of us got the chicken fried steak, which is always reliable, and we also ordered baked potatoes, fried okra, house salads, and green beans. Two of us got a slice of the famous carrot cake. The food was fresh and hot, seasoned appropriately - a good value for the money. Old reliable Nolans is a great place to visit if you don't want a lot of frills and just want decent good food served quickly in a comfortable space. Total for four meals, two desserts, four beers and three teas was $82.06 with no tip required. read more

Not the best chicken fried steak. It's too overly breaded with not so much steak. Their seafood is good. The service is fair. The environment is family friendly. Yummy desserts. A little pricey for average food. Not on my favorite places to dine at but also not my least favorite. They are locally owned, so if looking for a decent place to eat, I'd go here over a national food chain. read more

Eat here if you'd like to encounter the Platonic form of mediocre food. I had a burger steak. This is apparently what they call a Salisbury steak. The gravy on this protein was empty. I mean this in the sense that everything the gravy touched had its flavor removed. The gravy was a flavor vacuum. I suspect their kitchen has no salt. Or pepper. Or garlic. There are five sauces. I tried all of them on my meal (image attached) None of them helped. There was no seasoning on the steamed vegetables either. I'm not angry. I'm not disappointed. I am nothing. Just like the flavor of this meal. The bread was okay. Three stars because they at least serve beer. read more

This restaurant has their FAMOUS POORBOY features right in the middle of their menu. Claiming it has Ham, Salami, Corned Beef, Swiss and American cheese on a french loaf. I'll tell you what it's famous for is that it is just a joke. Its literally a grilled cheese sandwich on a thick bun leaving you looking for any meat! $12 for a mini loaf of bread, a famous joke! I returned it for the brisket and sausage. The meat was dry. The 2 scoops of potato salad was horrible. The tiny bowl of beans was more like a dip for my roll. The baked potato was the only thing i enjoyed. Do not expect much from this place. read more

It says on their sign that it was voted the best chicken fried steak, I'm not sure who was doing the voting because it was quite possibly the worst I have ever tasted. It was so tough, that the grandkids could not even eat it. The shrimp tasted faintly of bleach. The fish was horrible and very "fishy" tasting. The hushpuppies were not done. The PoBoy was mediocre at best. One the upside the macaroni and cheese was delicious as well as the cole slaw was good, but they are probably bought in bulk from somewhere. read more

We have been long time fans of Nolan's. We've eaten at all the locations. Having relocated to Austin, when we do come back to Corpus Christi, it is still a location that we put on our itinerary. Over the past few years, the standard of this location has slipped. It's been the service, as well as the quality of the food. If it had been just an isolated occurrence I would say "everyone has an off day", however this was not the case. My favorite is the Po Boy sandwich, and most times the bread would be too hard to eat, I'd ask for no seasonings on fries and would be told no seasoning came, then of course the fries would be covered in seasoning. I am more than happy to report that my most recent visit, Friday afternoon (4/9/2021) has shown me that it's done a 180!!! I could not have asked for a more perfect visit. Food seemed fresher, it was perfect and my requests were met. The person at the register was helpful and provided excellent customer service with a smile! I did speak with the manager on duty about this. I know that it is much easier to complain rather than compliment and I wanted to let them know that the hard work they are putting in shows. Keep up the good work and I can not wait for my next trip to Corpus Christi! read more

Felt like having chicken fried steak for dinner. I don't eat it often and remembered seeing a sign out front stating to have been voted #1 place for chicken fried steak. I decide to head in and order it. First bite was crust. Take another bite, same thing. Finally got to the meat.....bland. Not good at all. Mashed Potatoes were cold. Someone in my party ordered red fish and it wasn't bad but the hush puppies were Freezing. I decided to read the reviews as I say there looking at my food; contemplating where I plan on driving thru to finally have dinner. Should have read them first. Very disappointed. Disappointing. For the prices charged, I was expecting much better quality. I ordered the Salmon Filet with fries and Broccoli as sides after I was immediately told mashed potatoes were not available (other reviews have said the same about the lack of mashed). The salmon was small, very dry and flavorless, certainly not fresh. Definitely NOT worth the $14 price tag. The best thing on the plate were the fries. My guess is that the fries were not made in-house. My dining partner had the Chicken Fried Steak with (canned) liquidy, green beans and fries. The breading on the chicken fried steak just slithered off the meat and later caused gastrinal distress. We both agreed that the fries were probably the only items worth eating. Hard to mess up fries, but again, my guess is they weren't made fresh or in-house. ONE star for ambience. read more

Paid $15+ for a combo fried catfish and oysters. Tartar was warm. Fries soaked in grease. Oysters had an off taste and were gritty. All would be fine if it weren't my son's meal. I took a bite and chewed on some grit for a few seconds before I realized there was a hair in it. Instead of offering to meal down and return our money at least to a fried catfish plate, the waitress simply said "sorry" after approaching management about it and offered us a piece of cake. No I don't want to be vomiting cake right along with the oysters tonight. Disgusting. We come every so often and it's usually just ok. We will never come back. read more

Very impressed with their service. I brought to the cashier's attention that my son has severe food allergies. I was able to speak to the cook and saw them carefully handle my sons food, avoiding all possible allergens and they were able to tell me everything that was going into the food, no questions asked. The cook was very understanding and accommodating (we have had other restaurants be careless or give attitude, food allergies are very real and so is anaphylaxis). We usually do not go out to eat due to my son's multiple food allergies, but for this special occasion we decided to give it a try. Used to love this place at their Yorktown location. However, last couple of visits were extremely disappointing. Went inside to pick up order, and the restaurant had a bad odor. This last visit we ordered the fried shrimp for take out. When we got home, it smelled so bad, and the baked potatoe and brocolli were both watery and soggy. Afraid to get food poisoning from the shrimp. Had to through the entire meal out. read more

8:00 on a Friday night and dining room is only half full. Stood in line for 10-15 mins to place my order. Waited another 35 mins for food. The chicken fried steak was very, very greasy, soggy & bland. The breading quickly separated from the meat which wasn't very tender, either. The mashed potatoes were runny and the green beans were tasteless. I don't normally use salt but did and that didn't even help. An employee picked up my plate that was more than half full and I did tell her that I didn't like it. No apology, just asked if I wanted a drink to go. I don't think I will return. read more

Nice neighborhood restaurant with good food and comfortable atmosphere. Food is always good and quick. Of course the number one item to eat is a poorboy, half or whole will fill you up. They call your name when your food is ready it's hard to hear your name being called out after waiting for a long time Must be a better way to know that your food is ready. Maybe like Chic a Fel. This is my first time dining at any Nolan's. I was initially drawn to it because I was craving chicken fried steak and I noticed they specialized in that. Hubby got the Philly cheesesteak and planned to split my chicken fried steak with me. The portion size of the chicken fried steak was huge! That's where my praise for the chicken fried steak ends. Ultimately it was very bland and flavorless. The frozen stuff at the grocery store is ten times better. It escapes me how this could be what Nolan's is known and won awards for. Beans that came with the plate were also lacking flavor and forgettable. Thank goodness the chicken fried steak wasn't all we ordered, otherwise we would've left hungry. What redeemed our experience was the DELICIOUS cheesesteak! The provolone was melted to perfection and the meat/cheese/peppers/onion/mushroom ratio was spot on. We will give Nolan's another try in the future just because the service was great and I love having a place to grab a cheesesteak close to home. read more

My wife's chicken fried steak was good but not great. Overall it's a nice restaurant and very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. I recommend giving it a try. read more
