I originally tried Nolan's after my wife and I donated blood at the Coastal Bend Blood Center. They gave us a coupon for a free Po' Boy, and that first visit turned Nolan's into a regular stop for us. We've been donating blood every two months since 2016, and if you're not doing that, please consider getting in there and making a donation--it really does matter. No matter what I order at Nolan's, it's always excellent--but the Po' Boy is next level. I order one to go almost every time, and it's consistently amazing. The service is always friendly and genuinely talkative in the best way. The place is spotless, which I really appreciate. The setup is simple and efficient: you order at the counter, fill your own drink, sit down, and they call your name when your food is ready. No waitstaff, but it's fast, smooth, and works perfectly. And the chicken fried steak? Legendary is not an exaggeration. I kept hearing about it and thought, "How good can it really be?" Then I tried it--and yeah, it absolutely earns its reputation. Great food, great people, and consistency every single time. Nolan's is a Calallen staple for a reason

I ordered the large cfs since that's one of the dishes they're famous for. The other is their Famous PoBoy sandwich. However neither myself nor my colleague ordered one. The cfs comes with 2 sides and a roll. I chose loaded baked potato and broccoli. They say the steak cutlets are 6oz each, and I removed plenty of breading and still found plenty of meat. The cutlets of cube steak are fairly thick. I enjoyed the cfs; however, I thought the broccoli and baked potato were just average. The dinner roll was pretty basic too and I just ate a couple bites of it. My colleague ordered the catfish and seemed to like his meal. He added a peach cobbler which was served cold and thought it was just okay. He ended up ordering a 2nd peach cobbler at another restaurant in San Antonio the following day which he liked better. Overall. I liked the place, but just for the chicken fried steak and the service.

Half the famous sub and a side of fried okra

I coworker and I stopped here for lunch while passing through town. You have to order at the counter, that you give them your name and they will bring you your food once it's ready. I ordered a half of their famous sub which was served warm and came with a variety of meats and cheeses, along with a side of fried okra. My coworker ordered the shrimp Po boy along with the same side of fried okra. The sandwiches were quite good and the food came pretty quickly. The staff was very friendly also. My sub came with no lettuce or frills, but I was quickly handed a plate when asked, at no extra charge. There's not many options for places to eat in this part of the state, so I'm happy to announce that this place is worth stopping, if you find yourself in the area around lunch.

There is still constant food and services. Great place to grab a chopped sirloin steak with onions and gravy! Moist patty cooked to my order. I had a baked potato and broccoli for my sides. The baked potato was good, not over cooked and the steamed broccoli with a touch of butter, not over cooked, still had color! We had croutons and cheese, a simple appetizer. The ambiance is a great place to eat and have a conversation with no music and simply decorated. They have a TV in the corner with no volume. read more

OMGoodness-was I just hungry for a great burger or was this the best burger I've eaten in a while? It was delicious. Right on the money with fresh tomato and dill pickle slices, crispy lettuce and sweet onions. All served hot and fresh with crinkle cut perfectly cooked fries. Service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere is family friendly. Stop by for a great meal. read more

Decided to come here with the family to try out something new-we are always up to trying something new. Upon arriving we noticed the inside was very simple and country looking-which is cute! It was definitely clean-which is a great thing! The food was amazing! All that we ordered was good! Sausage and brisket-sausage were good, not salty, and the brisket was soft which is a plus! Green bean-not salty and just perfect! Mash potatoes- Bread- soft and good(my kids loved it) Cole Slaw- was good, not too much mayo which is amazing, and the seasoning was just perfect! Chicken Tenders- definitely tender-my son was enjoying it and my daughters said it was not chewy like others that they tried. Will definitely be coming back and bringing family from out of state here to try it. read more

I ate here once since it is down the street from my house. I ordered the sandwich with their namesake and it reminded me of when I was a kid and my parents were broke so we would eat canned ham between 2 slices of bread with some cheap cheese. Nostalgic.... I stay away from pretty much everything except the ground sirloin w/gravy which is soooo good and very well seasoned. Chicken fried steak can sometimes be over cooked and is usually over battered, but that is really common for chicken fried steak in this area. The soup option is almost always cream of potato or cream of turkey. Service is hit or miss with friendliness. I am a really friendly person and sometimes the people at the counter bring down my vibe. If they keep making the ground sirloin the way they do, I'll keep going! read more

Tried this place for the first time today while driving though Corpus Christi. The service was great and the food was Amazing. Had the "Triple Seafood Plate". The fried oysters were really good and had a ton of flavor, the fried shrimp was huge and tasted amazing, the fish was cooked perfectly and was for sure one of the best fried fish I've ever had. The green and the Hush Puppies were great too. Ended up buying some PO Boys to go too. They looked great and I can't wait to try them tonight. Absolutely recommend Nolan's to anyone wanting to have a Great meal !!!! read more

Chicken fried steak is iconic to the south and a true litmus test for an American restaurant. If the crust firmly grasps the meat and the meat is NOT steamed tough in a bloated, hollow flour shell - but cooked to a proper tenderness, then IT'S WINNER- WINNER, CHICKEN FRIED STEAK DINNER! And this one was... And this time was a winner. The secret? Never rush marinading a chicken fried steak before breading and cooking.... Update: We decided to give Nolan's another try since my daughter was in town and she was craving oysters. This time, they didn't disappoint at all. Everything was above and beyond expectations. I ordered the oyster poorboy again and it was stuffed with fried oysters. My husband got the chicken fried steak and he was very happy with everything on the plate. Daughter got her oyster dinner and was smiling the whole time. Everything tasted fresh, service was prompt and polite, and the food was amazing. Even the other customers were all smiling and polite to each other. We had a nice conversation with a neighboring table. All in all, Nolan's deserves 5 stars. They must've just had an off day on my last visit. read more

Went on a Friday night and restaurant was about 1/4 full. We waited an hour and they lost our ticket. Kept telling us that our food was next, but it never came. We finally got a refund and left hungry. And their excuse was that they were busy, haha!!! read more

We walked into this Mexican restaurant ready to eat and left without ordering a single thing…read morebecause of how openly racist and hostile the staff were toward Black customers. From the start, we were stared at and spoken to with obvious attitude. The final straw was when one of us tried to order a drink and slightly mispronounced the name. Instead of politely correcting it like a normal, respectful server would, the staff laughed, repeated it back in a mocking tone, and made jokes to each other about it. It was humiliating and completely unnecessary. What made it worse was that this behavior clearly wasn't happening to other customers. The difference in treatment was obvious, intentional, and disgusting. No one tried to apologize or fix the situation--if anything, they seemed amused by it. We didn't feel welcome, respected, or safe staying there, so we left before ordering. No food is worth being disrespected over, especially for something as small as mispronouncing a drink name. Not knowing I'm Creole not Spanish. If you're Black or care about basic human decency, I'd strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. Racism has no place in any restaurant, and this place clearly hasn't gotten that message.

The thin and crispy breading was perfect, with all of the texture you want and not too much flour and/or cornmeal to cover up the delicious seafood. Bonus points for the delicious homemade slaw. My two guests both had burgers, and they looked completely amazing. My food was great and I was still jealous. Will return next time I'm in the area. One small request. Please add a few more sides that would pair well with your grilled seafood option.
