This was a fine place in Corpus Christi. I had been on the road for four days at this point so was thirsty for a brewery. I enjoyed a flight at the bar, which hit the spot, with the kolsch being my favorite among the lagers and block I tries. It was the catfish plate and the broccoli slaw, however, that were the winners. I mean a friend once coined the phrase "too many days without greens," and I think I was feeling that. Also it's in robstown. My family lives in robstown Texas . Small town not much there to be thrilled about when you are living in Hawaii but I really liked this place . OK yall, we used "wow" a lot. Make no mistake, this place is freaking Amazing!! Seafood AND a brewery? Hecks yes! We started with the Bock Crayfish Queso. O. M. G. Y'all. The little spice kick from the roux. Best queso ever Marvelous! Oh and they have flights! Beer flights, brew tour flights, premium flights and Magarita flights!!! Yes margaritas flights!!! The Caesar salad was fresh with lots of fresh parmesan and fresh pepper. The gulf platter is black drum and shrimp all prepared your way. Just wow. Hubby says "I was loathe to put the (very good) sauces on the fish because it was so well prepared. The stuffed shrimp are the best I've had." The Danny's shrimp wrapped with crab then fried is freaking delicious! Plus the Outside is just as excellent as the inside. They have a Play scape/jungle gym for the kids under the trees. Know before you go: This is not an actual brewery. It is a great space with a supremely mediocre fish house inside. Service: uninformed, slow and spotty, at best. Fish: below average. I ordered the red fish. It was not red fish. It had not been fresh in a LONG time. It was dry and rubbery and had no flavor. I ate one piece and left the rest. Beers: I had a Nueces Original and it was delicious. Sides: cold onion rings soppy with grease, hot grits, but not cheesy, as described in the menu. And lumpy -- like BIG obvious lumps -- Maque Choux was hot and tasty, but came in a little monkey dish. Best thing on the plate. Tartar sauce was not even in the family of tartar sauce or remoulade. Particularly icky. Server hauled away my uneaten plate and asked no questions as she dropped a bill for $50 down on the table. She must be used to it. I would advise diners to find another option. I believe it is a set menu when there are such large parties, but there must have been three or four of those dishes presented every time. Restaurant and restrooms are extremely clean. The outside area is perfect for small kids. The salad was covered with so much avocado. I did not get to taste since I am allergic to it. The plates of thin fried onion rings were cooked perfectly. They were sweet and crunchy. As well as the chicken strips for the kids. They were not overcooked nor rubbery. The fried shrimp and the fried fish stole the show. I had a family dinner here while in town recently. The restaurant had a very casual atmosphere amd was spacious. Areas we enjoyed: -Panko crusted flounder & snapper were cooked well. Everyone enjoyed their seafood. -Sides were a good portion size. We enjoyed the maque choux and broccoli salad the most. -Parking was abundant. -It is nice to have something different in the area. Areas for improvement: - The special came with rice, which was not listed on the specials board or stated by our server. My father ended up having double rice as his sides. - The brewery was not yet operational, so that was a bit misleading. -The beer list above the bar was difficult to read from our table. Our first time and last at Railroad. The drinks were ok, just renamed Long Island ice tea and a sugary drink. The food was disappointing as it tasted like all of it came from the frozen section of Costco. The ceviche was bland and if there was jalapeño in there it was cleverly disguised as a bell pepper. The stuffed shrimp was dipped in corndog batter and awful. The Cajun chicken (blackened) was only blackened by letting one side sit on the grill a little too long and the crawfish probably came from a bag from the Costco freezer section. The "hobo fries are a combo of potato and sweet potato fries under seasoned. The best food of the night was the Cesar salad. After the sugar drinks were done, I unfortunately ordered a beer right before our server started her 15 minute smoke break. Ran out of water in that time as well. We didn't bother with dessert because we didn't want to see how they would screw up a key lime pie or chocolate pie. LOVE this restaurant. It's such a gem for our area. It has a nice bar, a room you can reserve for private events, outside dining, playground for the kids, and FREE live music on Saturday nights. I've tried a ton of food on the menu and it has all been amazing. Very fresh, and great flavors. The desserts are homemade in house and they are DELICIOUS! The staff is always so kind. Did not know the beer at all and this is a brewery that only has one beer that they brew. Wife had fish tacos. After taste was off putting. I tasted the fish and tasted old. I ordered the rock crab boil. Arrived at the table warm at best with two cold ears of corn and crab that was ok but over cooked. When you cracked the crab it was like sawdust. Shrimp was seasoned well but not cleaned. Sausage was hammered. Grey and not well seasoned. Potatoes were the best thing in the order. Beer was good and maybe if I was going for drinks it was ok. Brand new building and it shows...well kept and real clean. Plenty of room as it does have inside dining and outside dining...plenty of space for both. The plates of food are well done and well plated, great flavor and plenty of food. They have a nice bar with plenty of adult drink options and beers on tap. I will definitely be going back to have some of those other plates that I need to try for myself. Just had lunch at Railroad Seafood that was downright impressive. I went with their pasta, which was tossed with a generous serving of popcorn shrimp--talking about a half pound in there. I started off with their house salad. Honestly, the meal was fantastic, way above average. Service? Spot on. The bartender was exactly the kind of attentive and friendly you hope for when you're looking to enjoy your meal. He kept the conversation just right, making the whole experience more enjoyable. And let's talk about value. The price we paid for the quality of food we got? Unbeatable. My wife had the redfish, served up with baked potatoes and green beans. We had fried shrimp (1 lb) and the baked stuffed shrimp plate and the fried flounder plate, as well as an appetizer combo. Everything came out quickly and was tasty. Came here for Valentine's Day with my Fiance because we were craving steaks and some good drinks. The place was packed and the wait was about 30min. As soon as we got seated, the waitress told us that it was going to be about an hour until we got our food- we understood and proceeded to order some appetizers. The appetizer plate was delicious it came with samplings of pretty much everything! Then it took almost 2 hours for us to get our food. We did not mind- until we got our cold steaks. Better yet, our New York strips were full of nerve and were so tough! I was so disappointed because this is a new restaurant to the area. At the end, we ended up paying a pretty penny. Once we paid, the waitress was hovering over us to see how much we were going to tip her then proceeded to questions why we tipped her the amount we did. Mind you, I tipped 15%. In my opinion that was so unprofessional and I felt very disrespected. I will not say her name due to me not wanting her to get in trouble but these waitresses need more training. I don't recommend. Lyle was very caring, understanding, PATIENT, attentive, and precise with his service. He didn't have to be all of these things for such a rowdy group as ours, but he went above and beyond. The food needs standardization and a scale. Our "half pound" catfish family meal came with 4 filets, two of which were finger sized pieces, the "family" veggies were boiled so heavily they were mush and was not a serving for 3-4 people lucky if 2, the grilled amberjack has NO spices and it is as if it was boiled with avocado sauce on it, the sweet potato fries were as limp as spaghetti. The coconut shrimp is tasty. Waitress was very kind, the veggies were removed from the bill, the staff at the entrance desk said nothing as we left. I went with two friends to enjoy seafood near the coast. We sat outside and had great service. We started with the bock queso and crab stuffed mushrooms. The queso was loaded with crawfish and very flavorful. My favorite was the mushrooms though. The mozzarella was ooey gooey and the crab was abundant. I just had a draft beer, but my companions ordered cocktails. They loved the sparkling kiss and key lime colada. I had heard great things about Railroad so we decided to take my mom for her birthday. It wasn't really busy at all when we arrived. It started off pretty good but then slowly declined as time went on. The onion rings came out barely warm, no sauce or plates for our party of 8. They were good but again barely warm considering they came out pretty quick after ordering. All the food came out at once except my son's burger- which they did say was coming out in about 5 minutes. So I wonder if they forgot it and so it was being made as everything was being brought out. My coconut shrimp was barely warm and the fries were cold. The fries were cold on a lot of our plates and really greasy. It did taste ok but for the price you're paying I'd hope everything would be fresh and hot. My mom and I didn't get our salads beforehand and only got them after our food came out and the waitress asked if we needed anything else. So we paid an up charge to eat our salads with our already half warm meal. Our waitress would disappear for 15 plus minutes at a time to the back or somewhere. So drinks were consistently empty, no extra napkins (with 3 children at our table). When the salads arrived after our entrees I asked for additional dressing- took another 10 minutes and she brought the wrong dressing before dropping it off and running away. After 15-20 minutes of waiting to find our waitress to get the check, I went up to the manager and explained everything that happened- she didn't really care. She told our waitress get them their check and refill the drinks- which didn't help at all. No apology whatsoever- I didn't want anything comped but an apology would've been nice. Over $240 plus tip- definitely won't be back anytime soon for semi-warm food and subpar service. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! Railroad Seafood & Brewery in Odem and Downtown have always been good. I was excited when this beautiful location opened near our Calallen neighborhood. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the service, food quality, and time it took to receive our order. When entering, we were not welcomed. The floor manager was on her phone browsing social media and sipping on her beverage at the hostess station... she appeared to be annoyed at every customer that came in. After being sat, we waited 45 minutes for our appetizer. The grits had NO flavor, not even the cheese on the grits had flavor... sawdust would probably taste better. The catfish plate was a joke. The catfish pieces were nuggets, not fillets.. and they had NO flavor. The onions rings were mushy not crispy and were soaked in old oil. The avocado on the railroad burger was rotten (yuck). Even the iced tea was cloudy!!! We paid $65 for a meal full of crap!!! For my husband and I to eat during an off peak time, it was 2.5 hours. That is unacceptable. The server couldn't remember our drinks, he missed so many refill opportunities. Other servers were carrying out food for the servers who were busy chatting and joking... and the other servers didn't know what table the food was going to... just a total mess. All while the "manager" played on her phone and appeared disappointed to be at work. I understand this restaurant is not by any means a "fancy" place.. but I've had better service and more flavorful food at many of the fast food locations nearby. This place should seriously have a consultant come in and provide assistance on how to improve the kitchen and front of the house.
