I have a problem with chain sit down eateries, such as Chilis or O'Charleys. It's a pretty simple problem, actually: I don't like the food there. It usually seems that the food ends up being bland, and perhaps a bit difficult to digest. Cheddars doesn't have that problem. My usual order is the Monte Cristo, because Monte Cristos are da BOMB. This one is no exception: crispy, cheesy, hammy, and straight up delicious. I've also gotten the chicken and waffles, which is also FRICKIN INCREDIBLE. My only complaint is that the food can be a little greasy, though I suppose one should expect that out of a Monte Cristo. In short, if you're skeptical about eating here, don't be. Go. Eat. I've been here a handful of times over the past two years or so & I have to say I have never been disappointed. The menu items are cheap & everything I've had from the chicken tortilla soup to the Texas cheese fries, to Dijon chicken & mushrooms to just plain ol' chicken tenders has been awesome. Like, everything. Really. And the ranch dressing is really good too. Full bar is nice & I've never had bad service. It really is one of the better little chain places. My husband and I went to eat at Cheddars to and waited 13 minutes before getting our drinks......ordered or food at the same time.....ordered onions rings and our meals.....waited 30 minutes for the onions rings and they were just thrown on the plate, not stack, and they were colded....our meal came and his pasta was dry and not enough sauce on it and it was just barely warm.......we both had cold slaw and it was just chopped up cabagge, carrots and purple cabagge, not dressing...nothing....complained and the waitress did care, but we got charged for it....my sandwich I order was warm but that was it....warm....no excuse for the food to be setting in the back and letting it get cold...this is the first time we have been served lousy food there...should not have had to pay for cold food......no one care and yes, did not leave a tip.... read more

Can this place get any worse? I have NEVER had a good meal. Ordered a steak cooked medium well and a baked potato. What I got was a medium rare inside and a charred brick on the outside. The potato was hard as a rock. I sent it back. Twenty minutes later I went to find a manager since our server was MIA. While talking to the manager the server came up and said my steak was at the table. I cut into it and it was the same red inside. Uggghhhhh. To make matters worse the waiter tried telling me that it was medium well. WTF!!!!!!!!! It was bloody all over the plate. I'm over 50 you little punk and have been eating my steak that way for years. I know what medium well is. The waiter was rude in front of the manager and then walked off. The manager said that they were busy and he was flustered. (Not my problem dude). They took the steak again and brought back a charred brick that I could not chew. By this time we had asked for refills if our drinks and our waiter never came back. He would not even make eye contact. Again WTF. The other person in our group got a steak that was rare also but after seeing the problem I was having covered it in A1 and ate it. The manager did take the steaks off the bill but it seemed like he just did not care. After another 15 min and STILL NO REFILLS WE GAVE UP AND LEFT. I am actually surprised about this. I thought it was going to be some Applebee's bullshit but we've went several times and have yet to find food we don't like. I am glad I saw the review about the chicken and waffles, I was going to order those next time I went and that would have pissed me off. The hickory smoked ribs are actually better than some of the barbecue houses I've been in, extremely tender too. I've liked all the sides I've tried and the price is great. I do not understand the negative reviews. This is no Michelin 5-star restaurant, nor does it aspire to be. Given that, in a small town like Bloomington, this one is wayyyyyyy better than Denny's, Appliebee's, or any of the other chain restaurants. Their food is delicious and very inexpensive. Ate here last night. They were having a terrible night in the bar area. Many seated patrons like my wife and myself had to grab wait staff as they seemed too shy to approach the tables on their own. Lots of trainees and inexperienced servers. A manager comped our cold meal and apologized. We only went here because a coworker kindly gave us a gift certificate, which the manager seemed flummoxed by, as if a gift certificate was a new invention. I know this bad service often happens at the local Darden chains. Haven't been to the nearby Olive Garden in years for the same reason. If you go, I hope you catch them on a better night. read more

Glad my kids weren't with me bc they would have been really tired by the time the food came. 10 minutes after everyone got their meals at my table the waitress "found" my wrap. I love this place! There's a good variety on the menu so you always have something different to try. The food quality is excellent every time I go. Those freshly-fried onion rings are to die for, the croissants are amazing, and my favorite dish is the Cajun alfredo (can't remember the exact name of the dish, but its a cajun-style alfredo pasta with andouille sausage and chicken). The service is really good as well. The only downsides, which I didn't mark down for because it's a design flaw in the building, are that the acoustics are really echoey making it hard to have a conversation, and the entrance to their kitchen comes out of the hallway you have to go down to visit the restrooms, creating somewhat of an awkward bottleneck, but that's not really their fault. Everything else is fantastic and I've never had a bad dining experience here. read more

I sent it back only to be hovered over by a threatening manager who tried telling me I was lying. This guy has no skills for handling customers. He would be better off working the dish pit. I would have given 3.5 stars. This place has good food, and exactly the right amount of food for your money (enough). That being said, it's only one step up from T.G.I. Friday's in terms of value. This was my first visit to a Cheddar's Restaurant. There were many issues with my order, but the reason for the four stars is the redeemed service and delicious dinner. I asked for water with no ice twice, received water with ice. Asked for water with no ice again and received it. I ordered a Bloody Mary, asked for it twice from my server and again from a nearby server who came to check on our table. I ordered my dinner with the rest of the ladies at my table and they received their food while I waited. I asked if my order was on its way and then ten minutes later than everyone I also received my food. Ten minutes into eating I received my drink. The server apologized, admitted she was frazzled, and kept a smile throughout this hectic dinner. I asked if I would be able to get a discount for the inconvenience of the wait time and this was directed towards the manager. The manager on duty, although clearly busy, gave us the time of day to listen to my concern, apologized, and offered to cover my dinner for this inconvenience. The server again apologized, as well. Although I did not love waiting for my dinner while my friends were eating, nor did I love that my alcoholic beverage was my end-of-meal dessert, I did love that I was respected as a valued customer on my first visit. Corporate chain food at its worst. The "Monte Cristo" is an abomination. Instead of ham and cheese between bread, dipped in eggy batter, then fried, I was presented with a bready dough ball that seemed to enclose the sandwich. No doubt the sandwich is prepared somewhere off site, then heated after it is ordered. Servings are entirely too big, it's almost obscene. And why would I need or want a mediocre croissant on top of my dough ball sandwich with its accompanying salad? I didn't ask for one, but everyone at our table got one. Only in America. read more

This is the second Cheddars that I have visited. I have gone to this particular Cheddars location a handful of times recently. I usually stop in when I'm heading south to Lake Monroe. Their menu is slightly different than the one I go to in Greenwood close to where I live. They have some extra added items on their menu. Few examples are shepherds pie and chicken and waffles. I am not sure why they offer more choices, but it was an interesting discovery just the same. The food at this location doesn't seem to be as good as the Greenwood location. The amount and quality is lacking a bit. I made the mistake of ordering something I never ordered before. I ordered the chicken Alfredo. It just wasn't what I expected. It didn't taste as savory as I would have hoped. There was hardly any sauce on the pasta. The grilled chicken that was laid on top was a paltry portion compared to the pasta. My guest ordered their usual chicken and fried/breaded shrimp. The shriveled and dry tiny chicken strips tasted like it they were fried and thrown under a heat lamp for a few hours. The shrimp was much of the same. The spinach dip tasted about the same as the other location. The sad part is, most of these restaurants frequently operate this way. A majority of the food is prepped and precooked/cooked far before the patrons arrive. So, it's no mystery as to why one's food always arrives to your table so quickly. The service is a bit lackadaisical at this location as well: at least concerning my various visits. read more

I really thought I was going to have a poor experience after my encounter with the host who was working tonight. She was very rude from the second my guest and I walked in. We asked to sit outside but didn't quite hear what she said because she was mumbling, and when she repeated herself it was in a very rude, hostile tone. We waited several months to go here because every time we drove by, there were too many people waiting. Was it worth it? NO. Prices are reasonable, food is very good. We waited over 30 minutes for our food. There's no bread and our waitress was AWFUL. She barely looked at us, didn't suggest an appetizer. So, we got ONE drink, no refills, and no food for over 30 minutes. I was livid. She readily went to every table but ours and the one next to us, it's like she forgot we existed. I was ready to just leave but I don't like doing that to the kitc hen staff. I eventually got up and went to find a manager. Btw, a manager should NOT be helping customers with complaints so often that he has a LINE. I flat out told him that I was not happy and wanted to leave and he basically went 'oh. sorry!! our bad!' and that was it. My family and I have visited B-town Cheddar's at least 75 times and each time we have been welcomed warmly and served well. I rate this restaurant less then one star! We arrived today around noon hour to eat lunch, we asked if they were serving outside on patio and they said yes. The host told us to sit anywhere we liked. There were no other guest outside as it was warm but a nice breeze. We waited for 15 minutes and no one came out to check on us, my husband went inside to inquire where server was. The waitress came out and gave us menus and 2 straws even though water or drinks had not been served. She responded with comment of she wasn't aware we were out there on patio. We gave drink order along with appetizer and waited 20 minutes without receiving drinks. We left and were pissed at the poor service. They were not busy at all, lots of open seating inside and out, the parking lot was not full either. We decided to go to O'Charlies where the service is always above and beyond. We will never go back again. When the waitress heard me complain about not getting our drinks, her response was the bartender was very busy, we ordered a bottle and draft beer and that's it. The service we received at Cheddars was very good. I had salmon, broccoli, baked potato and rice. It all tasted good at a very reasonable price. Cheddar's was a great place to eat when it first opened but as of late I've found the dining experience disappointing. The food is sometimes great and other times sub par. I'm also starting to have an issue with the cleanliness of the place as the woman's bathroom is rather grimy! The stall doors are sticky.
