The atmosphere was nice but the food was average. They did run out of a lot of things. I haven't experienced that before from a restaurant. It's like a O'Charley's but a little lower because it depends which O'Charley's you visit. I'm not going to return. I didn't like the shrimp. The steak was nothing I could have done myself and better. The baked potatoes was on the dry side. And please stop putting so much sugar on your carrots. This restaurant has a large variety of food to choose from! We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table but it was Friday night on UGA's homecoming weekend, so it was reasonable. Service was ok. It was very hard to get our waiter's attention most of the time. The restaurant was very understaffed. The food was pretty good. We ordered the queso appetizer. It was frustrating that when they brought it out they only gave us 10 chips. By the time we got the waiter to bring us more chips, the queso was cold. Besides that, the flavor of the queso and the chips themselves were great! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fries. It had a lot of flavor and was delicious. The fries were nothing special. We came here for a party of 5 and was seated immediately, that was the first and last positive of the evening. Upon ordering from a great waiter, the food arrived and one of the meat dishes was not cooked properly. Our waiter kindly took it back and brought another one, this was worse than the first, it was cooked beyond recognition. She again took it back, we then asked for the manager who came shortly afterwards his name was Jordan, he said he was ONE of the managers. As we proceeded to explain what the issue was and also about how terribly weak one of the beverages (alchoholic) he basically kept making faces and rolling his eyes. He was asked as a customer service gesture what could he do to rectify this situation. He then proceeded to want to play a game of who's on first because he wouldn't directly answer and after about 3 mins of that, he said "what do you want?" One of us said a percentage off of the meal then another said how about just comping one of the meals, he then with that same eye roll face gesture, said " I can't do that." So then we asked him so what kind of game are you playing with even asking us then. He is a managing partner and could have done either of those but he slimmed it down to 10 percent off which basically is your taxes on a bill. Finally he took the food and cooked it himself and brought her dish out. He was the worse and is not a good representation of what customer service should be. We have eaten there previously because we have events that are up that way but that will be the LAST time we go there. Oh and how could I forget we had to wait for almost 40 mins just to get their "complimentary" croissants because they RAN out. It's the beginning of the weekend and you don't check your inventory? It looked good and had all the right ingredients but had so much salt, that the only other thing you could taste was some onion. I can't tell you what they are like because we left the moment we were seated. I already spoke to the manager and she apologized, offering a $15 electronic gift card. The card wasn't necessary as I just wanted her to know why a family left without a bite or a sip. Of course she wasn't aware.. but she is now. We put our name in tonight, waited about 40 minutes and then the blonde hostess that lacked both joy and personality (clearly having a bad night) attempted to seat us at a table with 4 dirty napkins that were on the floor beside a rigatoni noodle covered in white cream sauce, the seats were dirty and a used set of cutlery was on the table. It was obvious that the table was dirty. We told her we couldn't sit there so she responded by stepping back 4 steps and pointing at another booth. I was waiting for her to grunt "Enjoy your meal" in caveman language but she didn't have any response before leaving. We also decided to leave. I haven't eaten at Cheddars (this location) for several years. The last time wasn't anything to brag about so I haven't returned...until today. IT WAS DELICIOUS! Atmosphere is always great. The croissants were amazing...ooey gooey yumminess. The side salad was really big, ice cold, and fresh. The chicken fingers were very crisp, freshly fried, and tasty. What a terrible experience. As soon as we were seated the waiter told us they were out of steaks, burgers and their signature chicken pot pie. How does a restaurant run out of hamburger? Came here for a late lunch with my daughter. We were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu since it was our first visit. The menu is large and should have something for everyone. I ordered the house salad and blackened shrimp Alfredo. The salad was very fresh, tasty and large. I enjoyed the flavor of the shrimp Alfredo but would have enjoyed larger shrimp more. But since the price was very reasonable, I understood the size of the shrimp. My daughter had the soup and blackened shrimp Alfredo and enjoyed both. We had enough food that she took some home for leftovers. If I had read the reviews beforehand I'm not sure we would have come in, so I'm glad we didn't. I often drive up to Athens to have lunch with my daughter and we are excited that Athens has so many great restaurants we want to try. I'm sure we will come back to Cheddar's. read more

My 6 year old daughter and I came in for lunch. We got there early so there were plenty of tables everywhere. We were placed directly behind the bar. The entire time i had to listen to garbage coming from the mouths of the single (one can assume) men at the men at the bar. When we first arrived no one was seated at that bar so I didn't think it would be an issue. But as soon as we got our meal I had to shield my daughters ears... and no server, manager, or host was in sight to request to move to another section. I really don't know how this place is still in business! The food is awful! Our server, Theodore P. was awesome. I don't like the way the lady that helped him bring out our food was talking to him. She was very, very rude! She kept telling him that he needed to learn how to balance the food on the tray. When she passed one of the plates, she said country fried steak & Theodore said country fried chicken, right? As if he was asking for verification because that's what my cousin ordered. She rudely said it all looked the same! You don't talk to people any kind of way! Theodore kept a smile on his face the entire time! The ribs didn't fall off the bone! My T-bone steak had no flavor & all of the A1 sauce had to be used. It also wasn't cooked medium like I asked. My cousin's broccoli wasn't cooked at all. There wasn't any need to ask for the steak to be remade since the server told my cousin the kitchen was backed up when she asked for some cooked broccoli. I love Cheddar's! There is nowhere else with a more diverse menu with VERY reasonable prices and large portion sizes. I've never had anything here I didn't like. Their spinach dip is my favorite in the world. You can get a steak here for $10 with 2 sides, and it tastes delicious. You can't beat that! read more

The only great part about my experience was the host. I've ate at Cheddar's before in Greenville, SC and it was good. I thought I would give this one a try even with the bad reviews. That was a mistake. The food was mediocre at best. My kids got the ribs and they were terrible. Definitely cooked in days past and reheated. Very fatty and the meat was like cardboard. My dogs loved them! I could have laid bricks with the mashed potatoes. Gross. My wife had the sirloin and it was ok she said. I had chicken pot pie and it wasn't bad either. Chips and queso ok but definitely microwaved. The worst part was being served our meals and not getting a refill on drinks until after we were finished eating. Terrible waiter. I'm obsessed with Cheddars and based on the fact that it's always packed like a sardine, so does the rest of Athens! I had Cheddars back in my home state of Texas and couldn't wait for them to open here. The only time I've been able to go is at lunch, and we always come around 11:30. At that time it is packed but we still get seated right away. However any other time has been a no-go; I don't mind waiting for a seat but my company doesn't. Anyway, they make the Chicken Fried Steak just like they do back home in Texas. They even call it by its proper name! Not a hint of gristle! The service is good; you can tell the servers are a little overwhelmed at times but they've never not been friendly. The prices are incredible, especially for as much food as you get on a plate - you won't leave hungry. Disappointing experience. When we arrived at the Athens location, they weren't very busy. We were seated right away and waited 15 mins for our server to take our drink order. She was actually sitting down at her friends table talking to them. Once we finally got our drinks it took her another 10 mins to take our appetizer order. One of the cooks brought our appetizer since our server was nowhere to be found. We did not get any extra plates, we did not get the booster chair we asked, and we did not get refills on our drinks. People who came in around and after the same time we did already had their dinners... We haven't even ordered ours yet because our waitress disappeared. (sitting down talking to her friends, 2 tables behind us) After we finished eating our appetizer, our server magically appeared and took our dinner order. When the food arrived it was cold and over seasoned, she didn't even take away the empty appetizer plate. We ended up not really eating anything. 10 mins after we received our food our server came by with our check and some to go boxes and told us we can pay whenever we were ready. The service and food quality needs to be improved.. we will not be coming back to this place. read more
