I have been coming to this Cheaper Peepers location for the past 15 years. I first met Joe at the Green Acres location in Valley Stream in January of 2007. Joe is truly amazing and the reason I still keep coming here and I always refer friends and relatives. First, their prices are exceptional, for example, you buy one frame and lens and you'll get a second frame and lens for free, which you can use for home or as a sunglass (just need to pay for the darkening of the lens, which is about $30). The doctor here truly knows his stuff as he has tons of experience. His exams are very quick and you would think, did he check everything right? But trust me, when you wear your updated glasses, you will see that they are absolutely perfect. He even told me the first time I had my exam there, the bifocal/progressive lens is really not needed for my eyes and is just a waste of money. The previous place I went to, they said I needed them, in addition, my prescription barely changed and really didn't need to spend so much money on new lens along with bifocal/progressive lens (and he was right!). Imagine that, a business that says, you don't need to spend more money! Joe is a true model of what outstanding customer service is, and Chris who is a younger guy, I'm assuming was trained by Joe, so he is also outstanding. From the initial steps in searching for a frame to picking up your new eye wear is nothing short of exceptional, they don't pressure you into buying anything at all. They are truly in the best interest of their customers, especially in finding a frame that fits and looks great on you. My son and I recently went to this location since the location we use to go to was closed down or moved. Although this is a Lil bit further it was well worth the trip. From the initial phone call with Chris to meeting him in person, it all went great! He is so professional, friendly, and courteous. Great customer service for sure. He explained everything to us from the style of frames to the different kinds of lenses and how they work. On our second trip back to pick up our glasses, we had the pleasure of meeting Joe. Again from the phone call of letting us know our glasses were ready to up to the meetup everything went great. He was very professional, attentive, and patient with us as we modeled our glasses and made sure they fit properly and could see out of them well. We were very happy with them. He assured us if there were any problems, we were more than welcome to return and they will fix it. I've gotten both glasses and contacts from here. When I finally decided to try contacts, I got them from here. They go through the entire process teaching you how to care for your contacts and how to put them on, etc. The lady that helped me was probably the most patient person ever. I went to this location to get glasses for the computer. The Doctor was friendly and suggested that I get progressives. I have never had progressives before. It took a while to get used to them but now I really like them. The staff at this location was very helpful throughout the process. They have a great staff. Chris helped me pick out a great pair of glasses and the pricing was the best. Joe the manager did a good job on the eye measurement. They have a large selection of nice glasses. If I could give a MINUS ONE STAR, I would. This store took advantage of my college son (attending school in NY). They billed the insurance company and my son paid the full amount for his glasses. I believe this is INSURANCE FRAUD and I am pursuing that avenue. Anyway Carmen told my son that the insurance payment had not arrived yet and that he would have to pay the full amount. My naive 20 year old son paid $300(paid the co-pay and insurance covered amount) and now they want to give him a store credit instead of refunding his money less the co-pay. I just want to post an update.After they told me they could not help me with my daughters glasses that she would have to come in for an eye exam. These people are phenomenal. The eye doctor does a quick and thorough exam and clearly values the time and patience of the customers. I explained to them that I've been seeing a bit fuzzier lately (and not the good, drunk kind of fuzzy) and they updated my prescription promptly. With my benefits, I got a year supply of contacts and a beautiful pair of glasses (high index, anti-scratch/glare) for $270. They were so patient with me as I spent almost an hour picking out and trying on different frames. They broke down exact costs for each item and component so I knew exactly what I was paying for. (I previously had gone to Cohen's Optical which was like dealing with shady used car salespeople). I'll be picking up both my glasses and contacts on Wednesday and this was perhaps one of the best optical events of my life. Went to the New Hyde Park store, Will never use them again, bought two pair of glass there, first one the frame broke just over a year old, second pair, they recommended to have scratch coat put on they scratch within 3 months, I am out 355.00 dollars will never recommend this place to anyone been wearing glasses for 20 years, and this is the first time I ever had any problem. They have a receptionist named Cathy, rude , inconsiderate, she does not know how to talk to customers. I strongly suggest Dr. Purnell should do something about it .. or else he will loose more and more customers. After having told me on the phone that she would re-do my second pair of glasses - at no charge, save for paying to see her optometrist - when I went in person (over an hour's drive), she told me she would charge me again to re-do them. I went to Cheaper Peepers for glasses and I don;t know what process they are using but these are the worst glasses I have ever had and they have a NO REFUND policy even if they cannot get the lenses right. They charge extra for a process that is suppose to reduce distortion and still there is distortion in the outer half of the lense. I have been wearing eyeglasses for 50 years and I have never experienced anything like this before.. Stay Away. read more

A word of warning to customers. I used one of the MI Cheaper Peepers. Ordered glasses on 4/8 and they arrived around 4/19 I believe. I went to the store today to pick them up and imagine my surprise at finding a store going out of business sign. The store will close this Thursday. Fortunately they were open today so I did get my new glasses. Unfortunately for me I am trying lenses with bifocals at the bottom for the first time. I was told that if they did not work out for me that I could return them within 30 days. Pretty hard to return them when the store will no longer exist after 2 days...run far away..bad sign of an unstable company that may not exist much longer. read more

This place stinks! I bought 2 pairs of glasses at the same time. One pair was fine, the other immediately gave me a headache. They refused to replace the faulty lenses. The specs also came with a one-year replacement warranty, which they refused to honor. If my time wasn't more valuable to me than glasses, I would take them to small claims court. Went to Lapeer, MI store and I'm very disappointed! My transition lens don't turn dark, the frames are cheap and flimsie and I doubt they will last long. I told the lady the rx seemed wrong and I couldn't see well out of the right lens and she told me I'll get used to them. Also, once you place an order (I felt rushed and pressured) you cannot cancel or change your order. You are stuck with what you get with no chance of correcting your order, and absolutely no refunds. I will never recommend them to anyone and I'm very sorry I went there. Cheap is the main word here. They are cheap in quality, but not in the pocketbook. I went into the valley stream location on wednesday 3-16-16 and the woman behind the counter turned me away. I showed her my broken glasses and she told me "i have nothing like that" and did not even attempt to look for frames or show me anything at all. She has the worst customer service skills, i had to drive to new hyde park to puchase frames from that location. This woman refused to help me and was rude. Ill never go back in there. Best experience I've had with an optometrist/glasses store. ALL the staff there between the receptionist, sales, and the doctor were all fantastic. This was my first time in years getting my eyes examined after years without insurance, and last time I went I was younger, my parents helped me. So I was sort of clueless about the process, how much insurance covers, what discounts I get, etc, but I was guided every step of the way. I also felt that they had my best interest in mind, and didn't try to up-sell me or discourage me from trying to get the best deal possible, I felt relieved that I didn't have to "watch my back" so to speak, as friends have told me experiences with other places where they were misled into not getting eligible discounts or benefits. And they didnt have to do all this, it is my responsibility to know what MY insurance does & does not cover, but I'm happy to say the staff at Cheaper Peepers Valley stream helped me get my contacts & glasses with absolutely ZERO issues whatsoever; it was a pleasure working with them and will be back as soon as I need! read more
