I've been around this neighborhood for a long time and used to go to Galloping Green when it was under the previous ownership. The difference in vibe is pretty noticeable and not in a good way. The drinks are just okay. The bartenders are fine at their jobs, but not particularly personable or welcoming. If you're nearby, this place is tolerable during the daytime, but at night it becomes a different story. The biggest issue is the security. The bouncers come off as shady and randomly push a cover charge, even though there's nothing happening that justifies one especially for this neighborhood. No special event, no DJ worth mentioning, nothing that makes a cover make sense. Overall, it feels like a downgrade from what this place used to be. This was my second time at the establishment but I hadn't been here in over 5 years. I didn't really know what to expect. It was a Monday night at 11:pm and it wasn't crowded. Devan was the bartender for the night and did amazing with answering all of the questions that we had. I ordered the spiked Hawaiian and fuckboy tears ultra shot. The spiked Hawaiian was on the sweet side but once the ice melted, it was perfect. I wouldn't attribute it to the bartender, I just think the drink is sweet. I can't say enough good things about Devan and all the stars go to her. The bouncer was just doing his job but he was holding onto the ids a little too long. You see we're grown. The food was good and the drinks are ok; funny names but def won't get you drunk. I'm giving two stars because the fees are ridiculous! When you walk in there are signs everywhere that says 4 or more gratitude included (that's normal and expected). Underneath gratitude policy there is a 4% surcharge added to all debit and credit cards. Even that I was like that's annoying but that's fine. My friend and I went and we were charged gratitudes because we went over $40. It was just two of us and that sign was not posted anywhere. When I asked about it the waitress said "oh yea that's the policy and those signs are old". But the signs with gratitude and surcharge was posted at every seating station. For that they get two stars and I will not be returning. The bill came out to be an extra almost $60 with all their fees. That's ridiculous, especially for it being Queens! read more

Just notice them pop up on grub hub and I have to tell you totally blown away. I looove Buffalo Chicken and their sandwich was the juiciest and tender one I ever had. The sauce was perfect coating yet nothing drip pout when I bit into it and you can tell the freshness of the veggies too no wilted lettuce and the tomato was firm and flavorful. The fries were a hit too. We also ordered a platinum burger that was cooked perfectly with the cheese melted that it coated the patty you can tell they pay attention to detail. 10/10 and this is where all my burgers are going to be ordered to be delivered from now on. Not sure what's up with the coverage charge. Depending on the night you may or may not pay one to enter. I've never heard of a bar charging a cover to drink. It's not like Cheap Shots converts in a lounge at the witching area. If that were the case a cover would make sense. I've been here quite a few times & its conveniently located by union turnpike in Queens. It is near St.Johns University & has that college dive bar vibe, but it's a chill vibe type of scene. As per some of the other reviews it is true on certain days, or even certain times there is a cover, which I don't agree with just due to the size of the place ...but ehh. I went to cheap shots on a Monday walked in fine with my friend gave the security our ID's no problem, he checked my bag no problem, he said nothing at the door about our hoods being on our heads. Then he turns to me tells me to take my hood off and I'm explaining to him my hair is messed up (not done) I'm a female. He proceeds to give me a nasty attitude and tells us we can leave. Mind y'all I was in there the night before with my hood on all night nobody said anything to me it was a diff security that night. I'm explaining to him why I'm confused cause the night before it wasn't a rule or issue for me to have a hood on. He wouldn't stop standing in front of me harassing me about it so I told him I'll go to the bathroom and put my scarf on since I had one in my pocket (he said scarves & hats are allowed) I repeated 3 times I'm going to the bathroom to fix my hair and put the scarf on. This security guard proceeds to jump in my face blocking me from going to the bathroom every time I walked he's moving in front of me, then puts his hand on my arm literally invading my personal space he's way bigger than me. Basically tryna bully a female as I'm trying to accommodate his rules. So I get frustrated and curse now he kicks my male friend & I out. I should have known this place wasn't for me when I walked in a saw 5 people and a bartender chillin with her friends. We ordered shots, which were okay....but with every order the bartender retreated to the corner and was looking at her friend's phone (ignoring customers). No bueno!! We finally got her attention after signaling her for over 2mins and ordered a vodka and cranberry. So she was pouring the vodka and the bottle ran out (but she didn't notice because she was too busy looking at her friend's phone again) then she poured cran in there.....There was very little (if any) liquor in the cup. We watched as she kept pouring vodka from an empty bottle...sigh. So we called her on it and instead of saying, "my bad" she said, "I gave you enough liquor". I awaited my return to Cheap Shots and last weekend became a reality. A random Saturday night and we just wanna dance and not pay much to do so... ((Enter Cheap Shots)) 5$ cover for ladies, which isn't expensive at all! We had our bags and IDs checked outside beside a nice little heat lamp by some friendly security gentlemen. That set the mood nicely. Security was friendly and thorough and I felt safe and assured no weapons were getting in the spot. Gotta love it. As you enter you pay your $5 at the little podium and get your hand x'd (in red indicating you paid..not 2 black ones saying your a baby) Then there is the sea of party people. All crowding the bar and standing around. No one dancing just yet. Mind you it's about 1:30am. BUT to their defense the DJ was playing some awful music. Let me rephrase. Not awful but nothing anyone in here seemed interested in. It was some reggaeton/aventura/mariachi band business which are all great when you're looking to get your Flamenco and Bachata on but with only 1 table of about 3 little Latinas who were too busy texting to dance to their native shxt it was pretty much just noise... So on the the next genre Mr. DJ ! My friends sauntered over to the dj to request something a bit more fun to get the crowd going. Within minutes he had some dancehall chunes and the crowd was in full swing. Gyal a bend over and all that great reggae dancehall dancing ! Now the party had started and it was safe to say it did tun up fi true! The drinks were decent. I was driving so Designated B only had a sip of my friends Long Island($4 ladies night!) maybe a hour or so after she ordered it so the ice was all melted, the glass was sweaty, and pretty much not the best time to judge. I'm assuming it was pretty good when she ordered it though...and cheap! The music kept up pretty well with more dancehall, hip hop, and some throwback &B. I'm talking real slow jams. Butter Love and Bump and Grind type stuff. After a while my friends and I were invited to a game of pool, which soounded like fun. BUT the one pool table in the spot was occupied. To stay busy while we waited we played free basketball. (is it always free?! That is awesome if so!) Not a single quarter was placed in that machine and I stayed there for maybe 40 minutes to an hour putting up shots. (Young MJ in the building!) They also have a punching thing game. You know the one I mean. You punch it to see how strong you are yada yada. Free as well I believe. As the night (morning rather) came to a close the security nicely strolled around and told everyone they had to get their stuff and go. They were nice enough and didn't get angry when we continued to linger. Overall a decent time. With the games added it throws some variety to your typical night out at the bar. Is this my first choice of spots to go to? Eh... top 5 because its super close, cheap, and since I go to St. John's I'm sure to see some familiar faces. Local dive bar but quickly turns into a little nightclub when it's packed. Keyword: WHEN. Cheap Shots is a decent place to go pregame or have a few drinks without spending much. There's usually like a $5 cover on weekends and students from St. John's usually throw parties there but it's sort of hit or miss. I've been on a Tuesday night where it was packed and I've been on a Saturday night and it was completely empty. They have specials every night of the week though so you can't go wrong. They also have tons of drinks listed on the wall behind the bar so you can always choose something new if you don't want to stick to your usual rum&coke or vodka cranberry. Plus you drink for free on your birthday so that's also a perk. The dance floor is small and they have one lonely pool table that's almost always in use. So this is a review, not from a customer point of view but from a DJ/staff point of view. Note that I do not believe in giving 5 stars for anything because nothing is perfect..and the same goes for Cheap Shots. I have been a DJ for this bar for about 8 years and have been thru most of their changes to make for a better experience. For starters they have a very extensive drink menu. To have this many shots, bombs, specialty drinks and bowls and somehow keep them very different from one and other takes a lot of creativity and a taste palette like no other....plus there is a drink for everyone with such a variety. On certain holidays they create special menus to cater for the occasion. No too long ago they added more TV's to be able to broadcast pretty much anything available and on the nights when we DJ we mix music videos which brings more for the customers to do while there. I enjoy seeing our customers reminisce on videos they used to watch on Video Music Box with Ralph McDaniels (sorry that was a 30 and over reference). The bartenders are generally in good spirits and fun but of course we all have our days (I know I do)...but knowing them personally I can say they are all genuine individuals. We have a lot of regulars and I credit that to mostly them. Yes there are some thing that can be better visually but they have been making strides to address these as they arise. There have been some renovations done to create better seating for larger groups and a VIP section for those who seek a little more exclusivity. Lastly they are in the process of building a fully blown kitchen so there will be food available in the near future...and if its anything like I have had in the past the food will be great! Great bar! Great atmosphere! Happy hour everyday 2-7pm! Ladies night as well on some nights. Manager and bartenders were attentive, asked if we wanted refills and new drinks often. There is also food. The menu is long lol (which is good) a lot of mixed shots and "bombs". Beers are affordable 5 draft and maybe 7 for bottle. It's a must. If you're looking for a good dive bar with good music. Music is on point reggae/reggaton/ hip hop. There are also tv screens and a pool table in the back for people to enjoy. Came here on a Saturday night with a few friends. Despite its name, this place did not have cheap drinks and was filled with various shady characters. The music was loud, but very dance-able. After a few drinks, my friends and I started to forget how much they really costed and awoke to significantly depleted bank accounts. This place is only worth it to me if: you are new to the bar scene (e.g. just turned 21), have a low liquor tolerance, and love dancing drunk to current trashy music. This place is a zoo!!! They have themed night throughout the week but it's a chill spot to grab some shots, drinks, or dance. Tuesday is college night so all the lights are on, beer is everywhere including beer pong, and the dj is mediocre. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and is course Saturdays are the best in that order. The charge is free before packed. After its about $5 a person. Never more than that. My favorite shots are the cum shot and the production that comes with the shot, the blow job, and the papa smurf. I love the skittles bomb and many other bombs. The scorpion bowls are $25 and well worth it. Trust me! I enjoy coming here with my family. We miss Kim tho. She was the best.
