Apiary informed us that Luis was here and it's a perfect time to order empanadas. We originally didn't feel the need to order them. But as time went by, and a couple drinks in. I wanted to try some so we ordered 1, 5,8- Corolla, Americana, Portuguese. Luis told us he doesn't feel bad for charging more than others bc he puts more filling than dough. I honestly feel it's worth the price. You get lots of meat and stuffing in that crispy dough. Damn well worth the price. And it's a good size too, when you pick up the empanadas, it has a good weight to it. I was expecting a smaller empanada, but these truly make me feel like it worth the price. Their empanadas are soooo good. The dough is thin and the inside is filled to the brim. One of the best empanadas I have ever had. Totally worth the price, three whole ones would totally fill you up. My favorite is number 5 the Americana, it had bacon, smoked gouda and jalapeños....it was so flavorful and cheesy. Number 1 Criolla was my second favorite...mainly because I don't really like raisins in my savory type of food....but I didn't notice it that much. We ordered 3 empandadas, chicken, it's was tasty, it had citrus zest to it. The bacon (pork) with jalapeños, and gouda cheese. Oh that had a bite to it, it was very tasty. The tri tip, fell short. I wasn't to impressed with that one. But over all I'm glad we made a stop there and tried there food. The service was great. The ambiance was cute, and simple. read more

Didn't realize it was only available through Apiary but it ended up being such a cute unexpected date night with a flight and assortment of empanadas. You can tell these are small batch and made with love. Arrived hot and each one was 10/10! It was fun pairing the flavors of the empanadas with the flight and finding favorite combos. We tried 8 different ones, left with half to take home and every single one was incredible! Stand outs for us were the Criolla, Americana, Higo and Roquefort. The chimichurri was also unreal - highly recommend adding to your order. Loved these empanadas. We got 3 kinds, the prosciutto, the blue cheese with pecans and the mozzarella with oregano. Everything was so tastey and full of flavor, including the chimichurri. Brought our empanadas over to the brewery next door as a snack to share with our beer flight and it was a perfect pairing. We have been in the area a couple times to stop at Apiary and today was the first time we have had Che's empanadas. They are located in the same business center, so you can order empanadas to enjoy while you are at BrewLab or Apiary. We texted the number and chef came over to talk to us about the empanadas and brought our food right to us. We ordered the Criolla, jamon y queso, Americana and fugazetta. All four were absolutely delicious! With how crispy the shell was you would swear they were fried but they are baked! Do not be taken back by the contents of the criolla, they marry well together and the zesty chumichurri is a great compliment to all of the empanadas. If we weren't headed to a hotel for the night we would definitely get some frozen to go! Definitely worth a try and you will not be disappointed! read more

Every day is a good day for an empanada (or three). Stopped by this place for the first time over the weekend while in Carpinteria. Though not visible from the street, it's adjacent to two brew facilities in the center of a nondescript commercial plaza. The plaza is on the western end of the town and can be accessed right off the southbound 101/Carpinteria Avenue exit. We were at The Apiary, next door, and couldn't help but admire the scent of cooking bacon. Bacon and brews? Sure, why not? The venue is outdoor only, with the ordering counter being right at the doorway of the commercial suite. The gentleman whom had assisted us was very friendly and helpful. He let us know he'd deliver to our table at The Apiary which I felt was quite convenient. We ordered three different empanadas which, as evidenced by the photos, ended up being a total work of art. They were almost too beautiful to eat! Luckily, I was able to snap a quick photo before they were absolutely devoured. Just delicious, and they paired with the mead so well. My fiancé and I stopped by over Memorial Day weekend after hearing great things about Che. After walking around for a bit we finally found the storefront and were immediately greeted by the owner, Luis! He was extremely friendly, took the time to explain each empanada and provided recommendations based on our likes and dislikes. We ended up getting the Jamon y queso (my personal favorite, the criolla (the most traditional Argentinian empanada) and the fugazzeta. That day, Luis was the only one working, so he was extremely busy, but we loved that he still took the time to chat with us in between taking and delivering orders. Carpinteria's best kept secret. Hands down. Only open on Thurs, Fri, and Saturday nights - this place serves the BEST empanadas in Carp and (likely) SB. Vegan and Vegetarian options are also available. It's fun to show up every Friday because there's a new "Friday Special" and you never know what it'll be, but you can be sure it's delicious. Personally, I like to order the Americana (bacon, jalapenos, and smoked gouda) along with the Jamon y Queso (prosciutto and fontina) and then finish with the Dulce for dessert. They have 8 different empanadas. Try one of each and find out which is your favorite. Ask them about the minis! You can order a mini version instead of committing to a regular sized empanada. These are great when you want to try a variety or share with friends. OHH and life hack: order some frozen To-Go and you can bake them yourself at home.
