Overall: 4 stars Very interesting vegetarian restaurant that rethinks a lot of Asian dishes in an equally compelling vegetarian light. The staff are very kind and attentive and the food tastes quite pleasant. My only gripe is how the entrance inside and out is flooded with flies that detract from both the first and last impression. Eggplant Tofu - Love the flavor of the sweet saline black pepper sauce that really powers the dish. The pepper gives a persistent but not overpowering spice that works well with the rice. Food was really good. My favorite out of everything we ordered was the Chicken Ragu. Service was fast and server were very friendly and attentive. Ambience is cozy.
Pleasantly surprised by Chay Concept. This is a high-end vegetarian spot with an open kitchen that lets you watch the chefs in action, especially if you snag a bar seat. The space is stylish, the service is great, and the food is both beautifully plated and delicious. The cocktails could use a bit of refinement, but the creativity is there and I'm excited to see how they evolve. Parking nearby is limited, but if you're staying at the hotel across the alley, it's an easy win. Overall, a great choice for an elevated, meat-free meal in Bellevue.
The location was abut awkward to find. But the place is very cozy and loving the grass wall display. The food on the hand was great and it is very vegetarian/vegan friendly for our vegetarian folks. Definitely a date night type of place with their more asian fusion type of cuisine. The staff was super friendly. The food was good as vegetarian meals go. But it was a bit too sweet in regard to the sauce and seems overpowering.
I went to Chay Concept and had a mixed experience overall. I ordered the golden garlic and chili tofu and Thai iced tea. The garlic and chili tofu was the highlight--well-cooked, flavorful, and nicely balanced with heat. The tofu was crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside, making it quite enjoyable. However, the Thai iced tea was disappointing. It lacked the usual richness and depth of flavor and tasted watered down, which took away from the overall experience. The food felt freshly prepared, and the flavors had a modern Asian vegetarian touch. Overall, Chay Concept is worth visiting for dishes like the garlic and chili tofu, but the drinks could use some improvement.
We Tried Happy Hour at this Vietnamese Vegetarian restaurant last Friday. (4pm -6pm). The decor is very nice and tranquil. Seating area is a bit limited. About 6 seats at the bar, but you can enjoy the HH drinks and small plates in the regular seating area too. They have mocktails, for those who prefer non alcoholic drinks We ordered the crispy rolls, and golden garlic and chili tofu with a #2 spicy. Both small plates were very tasty. The tofu had a definite kick to it but was still enjoyable. The restaurant is very clean and well maintained. Servers were very courteous, attentive, and welcoming. On the street parking was easy to find.
It was packed, but glad we put in a reservation. We got bar seating, which wasn't too bad. Seats were still comfortable and you get to see all the action from kitchen to bar to dining room. We've always had low expectations for vegetarian restaurants, so we were quite surprised w/ the execution with the food here. Pumpkin and lotus seed soup was our fav - fragrant, umami, and whatever they put in there, it warmed my soul! Perfect dish from happy hour to get through this cold spell in Seattle. Others we've enjoyed: Pho rolls, crispy rolls, tom yum mushrooms (love the seasoning and the peppery flavor!), and papaya salad. There was something in the mango salad that gave me an aftertaste of dish soap. Maybe they felt rushed b/c of the number of orders that night, so the dishes didn't get wiped down fast enough. I'm sure executon gets better w/ time. My mocktail was a bit too sweet for my taste. Will certainly try a different one next time.
Went back to Chay Concept for a second time, and again, loved the food. This time, I enjoyed the food even more as I was able to hone in on some of the items that were more of my taste. We ordered a crispy tofu appetizer, which came with a yummy lemon grass dipping sauce -- I'd definitely order this again! They also had a new item, tropical mango rolls, which were also quite good. The place is on the smaller side but because of that, it's pretty chill, making it easy to have conversation during lunch, dinner or happy hour. The service was outstanding. We had such a warm, friendly server, who seemed to really care about our experience. I love that they have expanded their menu since I visited the first time, and there are pictures which are super helpful too!
I am very happy I had a chance to try Chay Concept. This place has very tasty food. While here for a Yelp experience, I also purchased and entree of Sesame Beef with Lotus Root and a spiciness level of 2 stars. I enjoyed the Sesame Beef entree. This dish had imitation beef which was super similar in texture as real beef and the spiciness was just right for me. Lots of veggies in this meal with broccoli, peppers and lotus root. It is similar to Szechuan Beef but certainly healthier and still full of flavor. This dish came with a choice of rice and I chose the purple rice for variety. I had a great waiter who kept my water full and checked up with me often and remembered my name which is always nice. I will return here one day with family.
Good option for vegan food! They have a wide variety of different dishes, with veggies and meat alternatives. We tried the papaya salad and bahn mi skillet. It was flavorful and light. The drinks menu was also extensive with coffee, mocktails and alcoholic drinks. They also have HH menu from 4-6 with good discounts
We really enjoyed Chay when we visited. We do typically eat and like meat so we're a little suspicious that we wouldn't like it, but we were wrong! They do a good job of using meat alternatives to replace how meat would usually be used. Their beef replacement is probably what they do best. The tofu dishes felt like they could be hit or miss. This is downtown Bellevue so there is mostly street parking and garages if you want that. The interior of the restaurant is really nice and cozy definitely recommend visiting!
I was really excited to try their vegan food, and it turned out to be a great experience. The staff were very welcoming and helped me choose the right appetizer, which I really appreciated. The ambience was also nice and comfortable. I tried the pho rolls, which had egg, mango, salad, and imitation beef. I was a bit skeptical at first because I don't usually like plant-based meats that taste or smell weird (even though I eat chicken and lamb). The staff clearly told me that it wouldn't have that smell, so I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did! The rolls were really good. The "meat" was made from soy, tasted nice, and didn't have any odd smell at all. With the sauces, everything came together really well. It's a small plate, but perfect for sharing between two people and surprisingly filling. Plus, it felt like a good protein option. I'd definitely recommend this place to vegans or anyone who wants to try plant-based meats without that strange aftertaste. I'm already excited to come back and try more items from their menu. Parking was a bit tricky, though. I couldn't find a dedicated spot and ended up doing street parking. Also I noticed in reviews many people find it difficult to find the restaurant. It's in the soma towers and beside the signal.
Not very many vegetarian places like this in the area so definitely recommend if you're vegetarian, open to trying something new / different, or wanting Vietnamese food. The restaurant is cozy /very intimate setting and in my mind great for small groups and dates. My parents are vegetarian so we invited them. It was our first time there so we asked the owner to recommend a few dishes for us to share. We tried the salted eggs, tropical roll, bao, Tom yum mushrooms, purple yam soup, pho noodles, and purple rice. Every dish was good and packed with flavors. If I had to re-pick three I would probably go with the tropical roll, bao, and pho noodles. They also hand a ginger fried fish dish that I would recommend but didn't try on this day (I had it at their sister restaurant). Overall really good experience and staff was friendly.
In the old fog rose altier location. A pretty spot, but quite small. I would recommend a reservation. Although, we went at lunchtime on a Monday and went right in. Our server was very friendly and informative. She made a lot of recommendations and helped us choose what was right for us. I was blown away! Everything was delicious and didn't feel like it was missing anything to be vegetarian. I was with two small children, so I was a little concerned how they would fare. But they loved everything too! Great flavor without too much heat for little ones. Salted egg tofu was so nice and crispy on the outside and silken inside. The sauce was delicious. We sopped up very last drop. Tropical rolls had wonderful flavor and contest of texture. My only gripe was the way they were arranged on the plate allowed for them to kind of get stuck together in the middle. The dipping sauce was again delicious. Sesame "beef" with purple rice was yummy. Veggies were nicely cooked and sauce was tasty. The server had mentioned that it was a bit sweet, and it was on the sweeter side, but still very palatable. We're definitely come again to try more items on the menu. The cocktail list also looks wonderful! EDIT TO ADD- Happy hour says DAILY but it is not. Weekdays only. I would normally reduce a star for a restaurant not following through with what is posted on their website. But I still really enjoyed myself. read more

Nice place a little hard to find. The Place is really nice and decorated in a modern but comfortable way. It has a nice atmosphere. The food is vegetarian, the dishes are very tasty and Vietnamese with some fusion. The cocktails are nice too. I would give it a try. read more
I am of the meat-lover's persuasion, but I needed more veggies in my life so gave it a try. We had: 1) pho rolls - 4/5. Yummy and good textures. 2) salted egg tofu - 5/5. My fave. Like an egg soufflé in curry sauce. 3) mango salad - 3/5. Mango wasn't very ripe so it didn't taste much like mango 4) sesame beef - 3/5. Least fave. Meat alternative tasted like really dry meat. 5) veggie curry - 3/5. Watery curry without much flavor. 6) pumpkin fried rice - 4/5. Liked the tempura pumpkin and pumpkin throughout. 7) rose lover - 3/5. Had dried and chopped up rose petals which looked pretty, but we didn't like getting it in the sips. 8) spicy mango drop - 3/5. Lacked mango flavor. Barely tasted it. 9) dragon iced tea - 4/5. Beautiful presentation. Overall, worth a try for a vegetarian experience. read more

This is an elegant place creating a niche cuisine of modern vegan/vegetarian spin on Vietnamese food. You can be seated at tables overlooking the sterile canyon-like street flanked by austere, sterile, glass and steel skyscrapers, completely lacking in human-scale coziness. That's what passes for (alienating) "character" in the corporate hijacking of new Bellevue. Or, turn away from the street and sit at their decorated bar with a warm vibe set by friendly, solicitous waiters. This place has elevated its game with cocktail and mocktail offerings, each of which has attractive colors and fun spins on flavors. You will have a conversation starter there. With the food, I thought the fake meats made with soy gluten were really good and flavorful. We had the fake "duck" in a soup including bokchoy, mushrooms, and too much egg noodles. The soup fell flat for me because the broth was rather sweet and one-dimensional and didn't have enough lemongrass/star anise notes. Also we liked the sesame "beef" rolled into the pho roll appetizer but it fell apart when we tried to eat it. It should have been thought through a bit better and should have incorporated more crunchy jalapeno and mint to offset the fake beef and the rice noodle wrapping. It was just focused on presentation and not on satisfaction of texture/taste on the palate. The mango salad was also overly sweet because the mango itself was dessert sweet, and it didn't have sufficient countering with the fried shallots and mint/lime dressing. It was off to my palate. This restaurant will need to focus on customer taste rather than just food aesthetics. I do start to eat with my eyes but if I am disappointed on the tongue - then I feel let down. They're really warm waiters though, give them a try. read more
Nice vegetarian spot in Bellevue with well curated dishes. The server and bartender were great. They helped me pick a dish for dinner and I enjoyed my pineapple fried rice (I've had better). They seemed massively over worked the day I visited and the dining room was very hot. read more

This restaurant opened up earlier this month so they are still trying to figure out their operations. The staff is very kind and eager to answer questions and provide suggestions. The ambiance is full of light and modern looking. The flavors of the food were really good. The only ones I wouldn't order again are the salted egg tofu (for us the taste was only ok), pineapple rice, and the mango sticky rice (maybe because mangoes aren't in season but then please don't serve this). My favorites were the mango salad, veggie curry, and sesame beef with lotus root. This restaurant is very vegan and vegetarian friendly. read more
3.5 stars, rounding up bc I'm optimistic this place will find its feet, certainly with the vegetarian crowd if nothing else. I'm not a vegetarian but love Vietnamese food and have been hard pressed to find a spot that I love in Bellevue outside of Square Lotus. The ambience is nice, it's small, tucked in an alley on the second floor, kind of romantic, not too stuffy vibes. Would be a nice spot to catch up with a friend. The appetizers were goodish. I enjoyed the pho rolls. The flavors were refreshing and had nice umami. The wrap could be a little bit thinner or stickier bc I struggled with everything falling out. The crispy rolls were good, would have enjoyed more taro and a punchier sauce. The egg yolk tofu was beautiful and soft but I didn't really love it, can't say why. The bahn mi platter was confusing. Not enough bread - four tiny slices but the bread was below average, couldn't tell if it was under toasted or stale. I don't think I liked anything on the plate, maybe the shiitake mushrooms. The pate was ok, the imitation meat slices in ketchup was not something I'd like to eat again. The Vietnamese coffee was DELICIOUS. Some ups, some downs. It's possible that vegetarian Vietnamese food is just not for me. Staff was very kind and likeable. read more

The very first Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant in Bellevue? Sign me up! You don't usually see Phở rolls as an appetizer around, though this is a very popular dish in Vietnam, and they tasted great. The marinate of the mock meat was on point, and dipping sauce was good though I preferred it to be a bit more salty. The salted egg yolk fried tofu was good, though it was more on the cooler side and could be a bit hotter. The pineapple fried rice was good, but don't expect it to taste like Thai pineapple fried rice. Vietnamese pineapple fried rice could sometimes be a bit more plain than the Thai version. I didn't know that the lunch noodles soup were also available for dinner; I'll definitely come back next time to try them. Do expect that this is a restaurant with a full bar, where you have the jazz music plays subtly in the background and a great cocktail list awaiting. Definitely not a fast-food place; the owner also mentioned to me that the menu would continue to be expanded. Overall for a soft-opening, they were doing a great job. The owner was very attentive and friendly, provided recommendations and adjusted the cocktails to fit my taste. Highly recommend! read more

We walked into Chay Concept around 6 PM and were able to find a table for four right away. The service was excellent -- warm, attentive, and very welcoming. The restaurant is small, but it has that cozy, family-run vibe that makes you feel comfortable right away. What impressed me most was the food. Some of the dishes tasted exactly like meat dishes, but they were made with bean curd -- and it amazed me how authentic the flavors were. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but I felt completely satisfied. There was no "weird" taste at all -- just bold, flavorful dishes that really stick with you. If you're vegetarian and in Bellevue, this is a must-try. Honestly, I'm really impressed that we have such a great Vietnamese vegetarian spot here. The only other one that comes to mind is Blossom in Renton, so it's nice to see another authentic Vietnamese vegetarian option in the area. Because the restaurant is tiny, I'd recommend calling ahead for a reservation, especially on weekends. Even if you're not vegetarian, I'd still encourage you to give this place a try -- it might just blow your mind. read more
Came on a Tuesday night and got seated right away. Split the salted egg tofu, pho rolls, and sesame beef with one other person. My favorite thing were the pho rolls, they were so refreshing! The sesame beef was similar to a real beef dish which was a pleasant surprise. The salted egg tofu was a fun, unique dish. I got the pandan float and loved the flavor! It was strong but didn't taste too alcoholic! Definitely stop here if you want good vegetarian food! read more

What a lovely restaurant! Elegant and intimate - like being a guest at someone's home. They had the most gracious help - engaging and helpful, but never rushed us. My drink, the Rose Lover, was the prettiest drink I've ever had (delicious) and the foam lasted the entire drink. We had two great starters and then the entrees: Sesame beef (plant based) w/ lotus root and the Steamed Lotus purple rice. Not only were these stunning dishes but they were so flavorful. Plenty for leftovers too. Loved that the music was quiet and the tables were well spaced - in other words, it was quiet and perfect for conversation. Our favorite new restaurant! read more

Beautiful restaurant, welcoming and warm lighting, with a cute but also mature vibe that has the versatility for family meals or date nights! I'm not a vegetarian and this was my first time at a vegetarian restaurant and I must say, the food was filling and satisfying! The only thing I'll note I think I'd have preferred the root vegetables in the curry to be cooked a bit more. I'm accustomed to carrots and taro being soft when in the context of curry but this time they were crunchy, which resulted in an odd mouthfeel. Otherwise, everything was delicious and the mango sticky rice has been living on in my dreams! read more
