I drop into this bar every once in awhile and am pleased to do so. I enjoy the vibe and atmosphere here. The bartenders are good and the drinks are well made and presented perfectly. New favorite is the ancho confidential.

Though this place is known for its cocktails, I found then to be average. The food though was just phenomenal! Great ambiance and service! Prices are on the higher side so be ready to drop a bomb! Worth it for an occasional night out.

There was a great breadth of cocktails and it's really nice that they have food. Our waiter was very friendly. The seating options were swanky. We loved the DJ playing cool mashups.

Went here and the service was excellent. Walked in and loved the dark n moody vibe. You can hear conversations and not loud. Elijah the guy with the beard and bartender did amazing service. Ordered old fashion cocktails and it was great. Would come back!

Walking into the place there is a front bar. It's very bright and we walk to the back which is where we were seated and it was super lounge feeling, and very well decorated. We were seated at the bar and we were greeted by the bartender very quickly. They had very unique drinks, and he was very knowledgeable about what to order based on what we liked. They make all their syrups and juices from scratch and they don't use any artificial mixers. We were very impressed with the drinks that we got and would definitely come back here next time we're in the Seattle area.

I held a team party here. Easy to book and coordinate with the manager. Set a dollar limit so folks could order any drinks they wanted up to the limit. Great spread of appetizers and hors d'oeuvres. Happy bartenders acted as our servers and kept the food stocked and fresh. Wonderful ambiance. The entrance doesn't open till 5 and you walk through the bar around to the back to C&U for the room there. FYI the valet will tell you to go to the restaurant which is on the 2nd floor. C&U is on the first floor.

Came here with some girlfriends for drinks and dinner. The vibe and decor of the place is very cool, and our waiter (JoJo) was the absolute best (he was very on top of keeping our wine glasses full and helping with taking photos, even a video lol) The cocktails are all one price $22, so it's pretty spendy. The drinks were very unique and had fun presentation. The food was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the starters (carrots and sprouts), and the wagyu tartare was tasty but maybe a bit too rich with the butter spread they use - which overpowered the meat, but the pastas were very overpriced and had tiny portions. We also ordered the cod which was a super small portion of fish for the price.

TLDR : Fun ambience, limited food options but great drinks We visited Civility and Unrest while visiting Seattle and loved the place- such a fun ambience and setting. The drinks were good, the absinthe fountain was a fun experience ($$$). The fries were nice, the spicy sauce was great. The food options are however limited. There servers were nice polite and good with their drinks recommendations.

We went on a Saturday afternoon / around 5ish and found a table for two very quickly. We ordered one drink each. Hot in Jalisco as I was in a mood for a spicy drink and other was for my friend Don't fear the reaper which was recommended by the waiter. For the sides, it was Wagyu Steak Tartare again recommended by our waiter (uncooked, so be careful what you choose). Both the drinks and tartare were good. We were within the happy hour range but our waiter told happy hour was not on the weekends. Little disappointed with that. it did not say happy hour wasn't applicable on weekends, otherwise service was good. The drink was good and so was the ambience. Since it wasn't the peak hour, we did not see any crowd. The gratuity was 20% and was auto added to our bill. The waiter told the peak hour is at or after nine PM.

I went here for a company event and the drinks were fairly solid. Although priced at $18 each, for the quality, it is not too stellar. I tried 5 different cocktails, and the ones that really stood out were the Civil Unrest and Deez Kneez cocktail. The rest are either too bland or too strong, nothing in between. This is a speakeasy that can be hard to enter, so your best bet is to go up to the second floor to the Lakehouse and ask a staff for directions, which involves taking a staircase down. Alternatively, you could figure out the entrance from the first floor near the W and there would be an arrow saying cocktails if I recall correctly. Civil Unrest - like a Manhattan. The candied cherry was excellent and tasted a bit different from the regular Manhattan. Simple yet elegant Ridiculo - this one has a strong chili taste but did not really taste spicy. It was more herbal Deez Kneez - fantastic. I am always a fan of gin. This one has some black pepper garnish so it was a bit peppery and fruity at the same time. I was initially expecting something like a gimlet so I was pleasantly surprised. Adam's Apple - the cranberry shrub is like 3 cranberry skewers that are fairly bland, and the drink did not yield the fruitiness that I anticipated from the ingredients list. I would skip this one even though it looks great in pictures. The Fire Drink - I was invited by a coworker to try this drink, so I have no idea the exact name, but if you tell the bartender, they will probably know what you are talking about. This one looks way better than it tasted - it involved a very elaborate show (which you can see in my reel) involving fire and dry ice. The drink has hints of passion fruit, but it tasted so bitter and strong. I am not even sure if it is healthy to drink a dry ice liquid, which they did pour as part of the drink. Overall, the place is worth to try as it gives nice speakeasy vibes and a lot of Instagrammable photo ops. Just know to order what is good based on this review and other reviews and enjoy, especially given the price tag of each cocktail.

I came here to celebrate my friend's bday. The area we sat in was a little awkward/cramped (the table was so much smaller than the booth so I was half off it), right next to the outside bar. Nothing on the menu really intrigued me (especially with the steep prices and terrible reviews of many items online). I was really craving something heavy with meat so I settled on a burger which ended up being $29 before tax and mandatory 20% service charge (sheeeeesh. Don't judge me, my dyslexia didn't read $29 on the menu or I wouldn't have gotten it). It was a solid burger though, very filling! For drinks I got the season change which was just okay, nothing special. My friends got the dragons kiss which was a lot sweeter! When the inside bar opened up, we went there to order the tea for two drink. Although this was a little pricey, this was my favorite! It tasted so good, we had trouble believing there was any alcohol in it. They provided us an extra tea cup since there were 3 of us which was really nice of them! Would I come back? Probably not, unless to try out drinks at the inside bar. It's a way better vibe in there!

After hosting a few guests for a golf tournament in Snoqualmie I suggested my husband to go to Civility & Unrest verses Seattle. The service, atmosphere, cocktails, and food are all spectacular. They really appreciated the menu variety with both quick bite bar food, and actual wholesome meal options. If you're on the Eastside, and seeking an upscale bar I highly recommend Civility & Unrest.

Ask the Community - Civility & Unrest

Does this location have a set dress code?

I met friends here last-minute and didn't have any problem getting in with workout clothes. It is a swankier speakeasy-style place at the W Hotel though, so did feel a bit self conscious about being under dressed if that helps

    Do you accept reservations?

I believe they do. When I went there was a private party in the back.

Does this place have happy hour?

    Yes! From 5-7pm

In particular, the three amazing, high-quality cheeses they put on their pepperoni pizza is like a symphony in your mouth. I would just avoid adding their olives, which are green, not black, and possibly the saltiest thing I have ever had in my mouth. I doubt a teaspoon of salt would taste much saltier. After choking down one I did not eat any of the others. Why they don't offer high quality black olives, which do so much for pepperoni pizza IMO, is a head-scratcher for me. Though they brew their beer there, and they always have a stout or porter for me--I like to eat my beer with a knife and fork--I've never found it out of the ordinary. A can of Irish Death would be better. It's the pizza I go there for. But though it is my favorite place by far to have pizza, I have a bone to pick about one of the servers (most of their servers are fine): As a former fine dining restaurant server and shift manager, I'm familiar with the Washington state law that allows restaurant patrons to take partially consumed bottles of wine home with them in their cars if (a) it is resealed with its cork, and (b) they keep it in the trunk or other cargo area where humans don't normally sit. And don't touch it until they're parked at home. I'm a light drinker, and one time I only drank about half a bottle of beer. I think it might have been a large bottle, I'm not sure. Wondering if the rule I knew so well for wine might apply to beer bottles too, I asked the server if it was possible to take it home. I supposed that the main issue might be whether they had a way to seal it, since the cap was no longer good for that. He didn't know, and said he'd find out. When he returned, he said no, and acted like it was the dumbest question anyone in the universe had ever asked, or ever could ask. I had a flashback of Dixie's BBQ on Northup way by I-405 (long closed), where surly sarcasm from knuckle-dragging employees was basically a brand. Curious, today I asked Google for help. I learned that the reason it's possible with wine is because there is a special carve-out in Washington state law just for wine. The carve-out does not apply to any other type of alcohol. So it doesn't matter if you can find a way to reseal the beer bottle. Because the carve-out is only for wine, not beer. I doubt that nuance is widely known. I think it's a reasonable question. As a former server, I have a piece of advice for that server: If you ask a question of a coworker, and they answer with sarcasm, you don't pass that sarcasm on to the customer when you pass on the answer. That's bad service. In my 6 years in restaurants, I was asked my share of dumb questions. But I would never have dreamed of letting on that I thought the question was dumb. Because that's an important part of what good service is. But again, most of the servers there are fine.

So when I saw this location of…read moreBellevue's largest microbrewery, my wife and I had to stop in for an early lunch with a sampling of beers. The food and beers were great. As the name states, the very large brewpub is located in the Spring District, inside the park/greenspace. The district used to be an industrial area, that has been transformed into a mixed residential/retail area, centered around the light rail transit station. The brewery makes great use of the outdoor space, with a lot of seating for an impromptu biergarten on nice days. This Tuesday was a typical March day in Seattle, which meant dining inside was a must. We ended up finding street parking a couple of blocks away, though they do have validated parking: in the underground parking right below (with under 10 dedicated spots) and the bigger Spring district Parking garage nearby. Amanda was our server, and she was super friendly, giving us suggestions. They have a large selection of house brewed beers, and we chose eight of the non-IPA ones as two flights, consisting of 4 5oz glasses (assuming it cost $12). We tried the Harvest Boom P.O.G. Wheat (this was our favorite one), Bothell Brown (liked this one), Snake Charmer Irish Red (strangely very mild for a Red), ChugMeister Mazren Lager (my second favorite). Second flight consisted of 1882 Pre-Prohibition Lager (very crisp and light), Muckle Flugga Scotch Ale (really like Scotch Ale in general, though hard to find on the West Coast...thought this version was OK), Schwarzbier Black Lager (different, very mild, really enjoyed), and a Der Kommissar Pilsner (super light with no body). I don't think I've been able to choose two flights of non-IPA in-house beers before...they keep a very large selection here, and it's worth coming to, just for the draft beers. We ordered some bar food that both of us like, and each plate was excellent. Shareable thick cut fries ($11) was very filling, especially since they were fried very well and were sturdy enough for dipping. Got Scotch Ale Chili ($13) and it was hearty, with plenty of pinto beans and good ground beef, with not too much chili powder. It came with housemade tortilla chips, which were thin and excellent. Wanted to try their beef birria, ordered their birria Nachos ($19) and it was really well prepared. Everything was diced into small pieces, used a really good beer cheese sauce and the the fresh guacamole was solid. For a brewpub, it has excellent bar food. The portions were large...we ended up taking about half of it home. Next time, will stay longer and try some of their main course dishes. The room was modern with plenty of windows for natural light. The central bar is huge, but there are plenty of bar tables as well, letting patrons decide how they want to dine/hang. My only complaint was that the payment process was at the table with only a tablet, and gave me no chance to look at the receipt. The total seemed right and was expecting a chance for receipt, but Amanda grabbed the tablet after my tip and signature before I could ask for a digital receipt, and then disappeared. I suppose I could have tracked her down, but getting a receipt after a meal should not be that hard. Can't remember the last time I was out, and couldn't get a receipt easily...would have made this review a bit easier.

I'm not a huge IPA fan, but they always have something malty or lager-like on the menu, too. Food is, IMHO, solid. Burgers are good, the fish and chips can be greasy but are usually quite good. Usually some game is on the TVs, and depending on time of day/week/year the crowd varies. Go visit. Breweries are closing because the younger generation's drinking less. This was while the place was practically empty, so I'm not sure what else could have been occupying their time. Second, I ordered the pork shoulder stir fry which wasn't bad but had several large pieces of pure fat & gristle in it that I felt a high quality restaurant would have taken out of the dish. It's indicative of lazy & careless food preparation skills. Also, the basmati rice was very under-cooked...some pieces were even crunchy. Lastly, after leaving the place, I realized that I accidentally left my sunglasses there. So I called later that evening to inquire if they had found them. I discovered they route all incoming calls to a bot that instantly made me feel unimportant and unappreciated. What's worse is it tried to connect me with someone in the restaurant, but kept looping back into its own messaging narrative. What an absolute PITA. This enables me to make a broader point: Restaurants have to get it through their heads that cutting costs has negative impact on customer experience, putting the lifeblood of their business into jeopardy. Take the widespread adoption of QR code-based menus during COVID...how many restaurants do you know actually switched back to real menus after COVID passed? The answer is very few. The reason why? They are too stingy to pony up the dough and ignore the benefit to the customer experience. They figure, 'people already know how to do that so why spend the money on printing up menus anymore?". They couldn't care less about what customers might actually enjoy more, and that's the real travesty. If restaurants are going to force their customers into a self-serve model (as so many have nowadays), then why bother tipping anyone? I am so fed up of a world where the idolatry of wealth has surpassed the appreciation and value of real, engaging human experiences. The Central Bar + Restaurant could help reverse this course if they ever decide to they put customer experience first instead of their own profits. UPDATE: Added one star because they actually had my shades...went ot go pick them up today.

We went through the extensive beer list and found a couple really good beers, in our opinion, that turned out to be really good beers. I ended up having a second beer, which turned out to be just as good as the earlier two beers. My only complaint, was that it was before happy hour was done, and no one asked us if we wanted any food. Not that we needed any, but it would've been nice to have been asked. Good job overall.
