On the phone I ordered a Grilled Pork Banh Mi with jalapeño on the side with extra pate. It's about 30 mins before closing and they were nice to sound so nice on the phone. Still I am in search for the best Banh Mi in Killeen. I've decided to take a bite in the parking lot. The bread is good. Nice a fresh and toasted. There were picked carrots I think I see cucumbers. The pate appears like a red spread. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be asking for like daikon but I look forward to that whenever I order banh mi. On this day in 02.06.2024 - my price of only the sandwich is $7.09. Ok it tasted good but I got my preferences. I'd like pickled daikon. Overall it tasted good. The family-run business is clean and welcoming. Many restaurants in Killeen have a film of buildup on the tables; Chau's Cafe doesn't have an issue with that! The dining area is dim with a cool temperature making eating so close to the window a pleasant surprise. Seating is on the intimate side. The service time is under 20min, not bad. Food presentation is nice. This will be my go-to spot for a quick lunch and Taro boba drink. The shrimp spring rolls are packed with noodles and lack veggies. I would like to have added cucumber and bell pepper or even carrots. The grilled pork bahm mi is fantastic! Filled perfectly and very filling. I look forward to my next visit. The ambiance was definitely a family feel. This cute mom and pop shop is definitely a go to for me because I love supporting small businesses and I really like their service. The mom was eating but got straight up to the kitchen to make my order The pop came out and gave me my smoothies with the biggest smile and I just couldn't help but smile too and that's why I gave this place 4 stars. I knocked one star off only because I have yet to try the food. But tasting their smoothies and for their price, really brought me back to home. It's a bit of a tight space so if you have a big family (4+) and they already have people seated, it might be a bit tight in there but it definitely looks like a great place to relax and eat and enjoy your own food. Family owned business, good food, decent price, excellent service! I was on a quest for pho and wanted to try all the pho restaurants in town (which wasn't that many actually). Due to their operation hours, it was hard for me to come here for dinner, after tried and missed couple times, I figured my best shot would be during lunch. This place is extremely underrated. Tucked away in between bunch of restaurants and businesses in this stripped mall, they're easy to miss if you don't pay attention. I showed up at lunch several times, and never seen more than 4-5 customers at once. Not sure if people prefer to get the food to go rather than eating here. I've had the pho, grill pork spring rolls, and the Vietnamese coffee with boba from here so far. The pho has a good flavor, however, it doesn't come with any basil (the only reason y I don't come back here for the pho after the first time), and the bean sprouts already come inside the bowl, so make sure to ask for none when you order if you're not a fan of bean sprouts. Their spring rolls are good too, just make sure you request fish sauce cuz I think it comes with peanut sauce instead. Might be surprising, but they have the best boba I could find around the area. That's why I keep coming back to get my boba fix. One interesting fact: the restaurant is owned and run by a Filipino family. It used to be owned by Vietnamese, but the previous owner moved back to California. The new owners loved the food and restaurant so much, they offered to buy it and had the previous owner teach them how to cook everything. Their 2 adorable kids are at the restaurant to help out a lot, they definitely remind me of myself when I had to do "child labor" for my mom to earn my plane ticket to the States haha (kidding of course, please don't report my mom!) read more

The beef pho, egg rolls, and literally any banh mi on the menus go so hard. If you're not familiar with banh mi, then get the barbecue pork banh mi. And get the mango peach green tea! I normally gravitate towards milk based drinks, but it pairs well with the beef pho. It's not watery at all; very peachy and you can still taste the green tea flavor well. I'm only rating on the banh mi/vietnamese hoagies. I came after lunch time. I wanted something light, but filling. I've had some great banh mi in Dallas, so I wasn't expecting too much from this place. But I didnt expect it to be this bad. They only have 4 options. Grilled chicken, grilled pork, BBQ pork, and meatballs. I've tried the grilled pork and BBQ pork.. Grilled pork - it didn't have any flavor. It was just plain pork with no seasoning. BBQ pork - slightly better but not good. It was more on the sweet side. It should've been both savory and sweet, but it was just sweet. It got sickening after a few bites. The bread was pretty greasy with a hint of garlic. And it wasn't fresh. Fresh bread would have nice crisp exterior with fluffyness inside. The pickled veggies were barely pickled. I walked in for the 1st time around 12:00pm and didn't expect much. From first glance you can feel warmth and great vibes coming from the 2 women and the chef. The cafe was very clean and I didn't pick up on any bad odors. I ordered a large Combination Beef Pho and an Avocado smoothie. The broth was light and tasty, but a little too light for me, I prefer a richer and fattier broth, however, the quality of the protein they had provided was beyond exceptional. From the tendon, to the tripe, to the brisket, meatballs, and round eye beef, it was delicious and cooked to perfection. The toppings they provided were that of quality as well, my bean sprouts, cilantro, and basil was clean, fresh, and crunchy to the bite. The avocados used were bright and just right, the texture of my smoothie was not too thick and not too liquidy, it was perfection. I enjoyed my food very much, and I love the attitude of the owners/workers. P.s, this is not a fast food joint and all food is made to order. Do not expect fast food at the quality they provide. Its idiotic considering how many people came in at the time I did and complained about the time. There are 3 people working, be real. I've been coming here a lot since my last review and have noticed a change for the better. Their tapioca pearls are chewy, no longer mushy and overdone. Today, I'm also retrying their pho and it tastes a lot better as well - they don't skimp on the beef here. Mom had the beef noodle soup which was really good. Great improvement! +1 star read more

We also only ordered pho which should have come out quickly. The restaurant is small and is a quick service set up where you order at the counter, I don't care for this, I'd rather be seated and given a menu. The pho however was very flavorful and delicious. I didn't like that it only came in one size and only 2 choices of meat, but it was very tasty, I can't think of a complaint. So overall it was good, just not my favorite experience. Tried to order take out. That was impossible. The lady on the phone could not hear a word I said, so I told her never mind and hung up. When my husband drove there he said the tv in the restaurant was really loud. Which was probably the reason the woman on the phone could not hear me. So that was a bad start. After getting my food. We had a lovely meal here. The Pho here is absolutely amazing! It's the best I've had in Killeen or anywhere else. The service was friendly and the food was reasonably priced. The environment is clean and relaxing. They offer a wonderful selection of beverages which include tapioca pearls and tea. Our drinks were perfect in every way. The only small complaint we had was that the eggrolls didn't seem very fresh as they were sitting under a heating element before our arrival. They were dry, lacking in crispness, and a little bland. My husband and I love coming here. The Vietnamese Special sandwich is THE most delicious sandwich I have ever had and the pho is even better. In my opinion, best pho in Killeen. I like to eat half of it there in the cafe and bring the other half home so I can enjoy it again later, lol.
